Kicking off a new round of Star Wars films back in 2015, The Force Awakens was a critically acclaimed film that helped usher in a new era for storytelling for the beloved franchise. There were a number of similarities between The Force Awakens and A New Hope, though this had little effect on the film’s box-office returns that December. It wound up being the perfect way to get things going, as many questions were raised by the time the film was over. Thus far, The Force Awakens is considered one of the best Star Wars films in the franchise’s canon, and expectations are through the roof for the next film in the series. Should Disney hit another home run with The Last Jedi, we could very well see a new all-time record for box-office gross when the final film in the trilogy is released. These are some lofty expectations, but given the success of The Force Awakens, this is entirely possible.
With The Last Jedi being on the cusp of release, fans are impatiently waiting to rush to their local theaters to see the film. We've only received a teaser for The Last Jedi, so little information is known as to what will transpire in the film. Disney has been insanely tight-lipped through the entire process, making for a more exciting experience for fans while in theaters. Today, we've gathered 15 of the juiciest questions Star Wars fans have about The Last Jedi. Because we know virtually nothing about the film, this list could've been exponentially longer, but we trimmed it down to the 15 most interesting questions for your reading pleasure.

15 Will Luke And Leia Reunite?
Among the bigger questions attached to The Last Jedi is the possibility of seeing Luke and Leia reunited on the big screen. Throughout the entirety of the new saga’s first film, The Force Awakens, Leia and her band of rebels were on the hunt to track down her brother’s location. By the time the first movie had ended, Rey had finally tracked down Luke's location, and the film ended with a massive cliffhanger as Rey was quite literally reaching out to Luke Skywalker.
Now that Rey has finally made her way to Luke Skywalker's location, fans are interested to see if she'll bring him back for a reunion with his twin sister. Given the recent passing of actress Carrie Fisher, we may never again get the chance to see Luke and Leia together if it doesn't happen in The Last Jedi. Here’s to hoping that we'll all get to see these siblings get a reunion moment.
14 Will The Jedi Order Officially End?
One of the most intriguing lines in the teaser trailer for The Last Jedi comes from the mouth of Luke Skywalker. Luke talks about how the Jedi must end, and the film's title alone gives you an idea of what could possibly be going on. As we learned during the prequel trilogy, most of the Jedi had already been killed off, save for a few that were able to survive. We learned in The Force Awakens that Luke had tried training a new generation of Jedi, eventually leading to one of his padawans turning on him and killing most of them off.
Perhaps, Luke is harboring massive amounts of guilt for what transpired, and he's looking to establish something new as opposed to just killing off something that's old and dated. If the Jedi officially come to an end, will they take on a new identity? This union between Luke and Rey could have massive implications for the future of the galaxy.
13 Will Finn Wake Up From His Coma?
One of the darker aspects of The Force Awakens was seeing a stormtrooper go rogue against his command. Prior to helping Poe Dameron escape on a TIE fighter, Finn was nothing more than a number who was having an internal struggle with the orders he was forced to carry out. Upon meeting and striking up a friendship with resistance pilot Poe Dameron, the former Stormtrooper was finally given a name, and with his name came him establishing a sense of identity outside of the confines of a military unit.
Toward the end of the film, Kylo Ren was struck down during a heated battle, and he's remained in a coma ever since. Even in the teaser trailer for The Last Jedi, we see Finn still asleep in a protective cocoon of sorts. Fans are anxious to see if Finn will wake up during the events of The Last Jedi, which would no doubt please his new friends Rey and Poe Dameron.
12 Will Snoke’s Identity Be Revealed?
Supreme Leader Snoke’s identity has been a hot-button topic since The Force Awakens was released and dominated at the box office. There have been an insane number of fan theories all over the internet about his potential beginnings, and there are a ton of people out there who think that Supreme Leader Snoke may, in fact, be Darth Plagueis the Wise. Whether this is true or not, fans of Star Wars are incredibly excited to learn more about this ominous character.
He was instrumental in turning Kylo Ren to the dark side, and he seems to have the talented but emotional young man willing to bend to his will on a moment's notice. The Last Jedi will serve as the second of three films for the saga's latest trilogy, and fans are hoping that it will provide plenty of details to many of the mysteries that were on display in The Force Awakens.
11 What Is Rey’s Origin?
If you look up Star Wars conspiracy theories on the internet, one of the hottest topics you'll continually stumble across is Rey's origin story. So far, we know virtually nothing about where Rey actually comes from. All we really know is that she was dropped off on a planet and was told to wait. Her journey unexpectedly began after running into BB-8 and, eventually, Finn. Now that she's finally left the desert wastelands to which she was sentenced to all those years ago, Rey will no doubt be learning a lot more about herself throughout the course of The Last Jedi.
For those of you who are unfamiliar with one of the most popular theories out there, there's a school of thought that Rey is related to Obi-Wan Kenobi, and this theory actually holds some weight. Hopefully, we don't have to wait until the third film to learn these juicy details.
10 What Will Poe Dameron’s Next Move Be?
As the best pilot attached to the Resistance, Poe Dameron's cocky demeanor and death-defying stunts made him a fan favorite upon seeing The Force Awakens. Poe Dameron became such a popular character that he even got his own spinoff comic series, which details events before The Force Awakens takes place. As you may remember, Poe and Finn were able to lead an escape plan together, and they quickly formed a friendship that will hopefully continue once Finn wakes up from his coma.
Poe Dameron possesses the talent to fly any spacecraft in the galaxy, and this could come in handy because in the teaser trailer for The Last Jedi, we see his ship getting blown to pieces. A lot about Poe remains a mystery, much like many of the newer characters in the Star Wars franchise, and people cannot wait to see what Poe Dameron has up his sleeve in The Last Jedi.
9 Will Phasma Have A Larger Role?
Leading up to the release of The Force Awakens, people were incredibly excited to see what Captain Phasma was capable of doing. Phasma was seen sporting one of the coolest-looking Storm Trooper uniforms in Star Wars history, and many expected the character to have a large role in the first film. This wasn't close to what fans got, however, and fans were left scratching their heads when Phasma turned out to be a very minor character in the film. She was eventually taken out thanks to some trickery by Finn and Han Solo, and fans thought that her character would go the way of Darth Maul.
As it turns out, Captain Phasma will be returning for The Last Jedi, and she has her own comic series as well. Considering the massive disappointment that came along with her character in the first film, we suspect that she'll have a much larger role in The Last Jedi. The directors have a huge opportunity with Captain Phasma, so let's hope they don't waste their opportunity.
8 What's The First Order’s Next Move?
So, you had the perfect plan to take over the galaxy and put an end to the Resistance, but you fell flat on your face. What did you expect? The characters tasked with manning Starkiller Base had apparently not watched the first trilogy of Star Wars because, if they had, they would've gone a completely different way than building a massive object capable of blowing things up. After taking such a huge blow in the original trilogy, a second Death Star was under construction before ultimately being blown up again.
History has already repeated itself once in this franchise, and we cannot imagine that this same situation would play out for the 4th time on the big screen. With that said, people are incredibly interested to see what their next move is going to be. This story, as it stands, has the ability to go in many different ways. Despite walking down the same path as their predecessors, we can't help but think that they'll elect to tread new waters during The Last Jedi.
7 Why Is Kylo Ren’s Helmet Smashed?
One of the more chilling images from The Force Awakens comes during a scene where Kylo Ren is having a private conversation with his deceased grandfather. Kylo Ren was able to obtain Darth Vader's smashed helmet, and he's since used it as a relic of sorts to have a semblance of a connection with his grandfather. Kylo Ren seems hell-bent on continuing his grandfather's legacy, but he seems to forget that shortly before he died, Darth Vader dissociated back into Anakin Skywalker, ultimately helping Luke Skywalker accomplish his goal.
Nevertheless, Kylo Ren wants nothing more than to be a big bad guy, and him talking to the helmet is what helps him stay in touch with the dark side. In the teaser trailer for The Last Jedi, there's a quick shot of what looks to be Kylo Ren's helmet, crushed like his grandfather's. Many fans are wondering whether this comes from engaging in a battle or if it's symbolic of where his character arc will end up going.
6 Will This Film Mirror Empire Strikes Back?
One of the biggest complaints about The Force Awakens is that the film, more or less, is a beat-for-beat reenactment of the first Star Wars film. While we understand the decision made by the studio to play it safe while introducing new characters and storylines, plenty of fans were outraged at the fact that they had essentially seen this movie before and that Disney had failed to take a risk with the franchise. That outrage has induced many thoughts of The Last Jedi following the same safe road, ultimately becoming a modern remake of The Empire Strikes Back.
We can't say that this negative speculation is unwarranted, and we also hope that this fear from fans goes unrealized. The franchise has a massive opportunity to take things to the next level, and if The Last Jedi turns out to be an Empire Strikes Back, anticipation for the final film in the trilogy will no doubt wane before it debuts.
5 Will Maz Be An Important Piece Of The Puzzle?
Sporting some of the coolest goggles in the galaxy, character Maz Kanata became popular among fans after appearing in The Force Awakens. Not only was she hilarious while talking with Han Solo, but she was also the one to give Rey her lightsaber, which she inevitably took to Luke Skywalker at the end of the film. Everyone who saw the film was left with the impression that Maz Kanata knows a lot more than she leads on, and many are curious to see if her knowledge will end up being revealed over the course of the last two films.
She's already been confirmed to appear in The Last Jedi, and when the news reaches her about the death of Han Solo, we expect her to be far more inclined to help than she already was. She was originally intended to make her way back to the Resistance base, but this was ultimately cut out of The Force Awakens. Hopefully, we'll see more of this character during the film, and we hope that she reveals more necessary information to aid the resistance.
4 Will We See Force Ghosts?
One of the things that we hadn't seen in The Force Awakens was the appearance of a Force ghost, though you could argue that, during one scene, we got really close to this happening. When Maz gives Rey her lightsaber, Rey has a horrifying vision when she first touches it. If you listen closely enough while the vision is on screen, you can hear the voice of Obi-Wan Kenobi. This has led many people to speculate that Rey could be a descendant of Obi-Wan Kenobi, and it has piqued the interest of fans wanting to see Force Ghosts make an appearance in The Last Jedi.
Considering how evil Kylo Ren has been, you have to wonder why Anakin Skywalker hasn't appeared as a Force ghost to him to prevent the slaughtering of innocent people. If we don't see a force ghost in The Last Jedi, maybe we'll receive a proper scene explaining why.
3 Will Porgs Be The New Ewok?
The Star Wars franchise sure knows how to sell toys and merchandise, and it should come as no surprise that for The Last Jedi, they're introducing a new adorable creature for fans to enjoy on the big screen as well as spend money on at local toy stores. Even though they can be hated at times by fans, Ewoks were incredibly popular when Revenge of the Jedi was released in 1983. For The Last Jedi, a new creature called a "Porg" is being introduced into the Star Wars universe.
In fact, Disney has already been on their game when it comes to toy distribution, and you can already find Porgs for sale. We have little information as to what purpose they'll actually serve in the film, and given their tiny size, we can't imagine that their purpose will be toward helping the resistance win any battles. Then again, did anyone truly expect Ewoks to aid Princess Leia and Han Solo?
2 Will We See The Journal Of The Whills?
For those of you who aren't massive nerds who've spent countless hours studying Star Wars lore, the Journal of the Whills is something that fans have been dying to see on the big screen for years now. The journal itself is a record of everything that's taken place in the galaxy, and in novelizations of the first Star Wars film and The Force Awakens, it was briefly mentioned. During the teaser trailer for The Last Jedi, a small bookshelf with several books can be seen for a brief moment, and many believe that this could, in fact, be the Journal of the Whills.
If this proves to be true, this will be a huge tip of the cap to longtime fans of the saga, and it will be a huge fan service from the director and writer of the film. The journal was meant to be included in the original iteration of Star Wars, and seeing it in the newest film would be a treat.
1 Will Luke Refuse The Lightsaber?
The ending of The Force Awakens brought more questions than answers, and the teaser trailer for The Last Jedi has also opened the door for more questions. Since Luke Skywalker can be heard talking about the end of the Jedi, many people are wondering if he'll actually accept the lightsaber from Rey during their encounter. Luke looks as though he'll be tasked with training Rey to properly wield the Force, and given her natural ability to tap into the force, her training shouldn't take all that long.
But people are still wondering if Luke will take the lightsaber or not. There are a bunch of people who think that Luke will refuse the lightsaber, as it could prove to be a painful reminder of the past, which he seems keen on staying away from. He could also take control of the lightsaber, realize that there's still some good he can do in the world, and become the hero we all know him to be.
