When it comes to the Duggar family, they love giving the impression that they are a modest family who live well but mean well, too. Unlike many other reality television stars, they don’t like to flaunt their wealth or pretend like they are filthy rich inside their Arkansas home. But at the same time you can’t help but wonder how the Duggars have managed to raise such a large family with 19 kids and still pay their bills on time every month. I mean, there has to be something going on behind closed doors to explain just how they’ve managed to raise their children without going knee-deep in debt, right? Furthermore, some of their purchases and spending habits suggest a less than modest lifestyle, despite how they like to portray themselves.

Little do their fans know, the Duggars love to live like stars once in a while, too. They have a private plane that they like to use under the radar (from their fans, that is). They live in a pretty big house that some people can only dream of ever having and also throw some of the biggest weddings we’ve ever seen. Of course, they never mention these extravagant aspects of their lifestyle. Yet, critics can’t help but wonder how Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar are paying for all of this. With that being said, here are 15 of the most outrageous and lavish things that the Duggars have ever spent on!

Jim Bob Duggar’s Net Worth

There’s no denying that Jim Bob Duggar is a wealthy man. He has a reported net worth of $3 million dollars. But with 19 kids to take care of, plus several new grandchildren, that might not be enough. Jim Bob supposedly made his wealth by being a successful real estate mogul in his native Arkansas.

Of course, Jim Bob and his wife Michelle Duggar also made a pretty penny thanks to their reality television show, 19 Kids & Counting. In fact, the show, along with the advertisers and all of their brand promotional opportunities have helped make them the millionaires that they are today. Sadly, the Duggars aren’t raking in the same amount of money anymore. TLC dropped their show right after it was alleged that Josh Duggar had harmed his sisters when he was a teen.

Joseph Duggar’s Lavish Wedding Registry

If there are two things that the Duggars absolutely love, it’s getting married and also making their wedding registries public. I mean, with such large families, you need a lot of stuff to start out with in life, right? Also, it’s safe to assume that the Duggars expect a lot of their die-hard fans to purchase some of the items on their registries.

And while this is common practice for a lot of couples who are about to get married, the Duggars often ask for some rather extravagant gifts. Just take Joseph Duggar and his wife Kendra Caldwell for example. They asked for a blender that cost $385, a KitchenAid worth $287 and a drill that came with a $255 price tag. They also asked for gift cards to places like Papa John’s Pizza, Krispy Kreme, P.F. Chang’s, Outback, the Olive Garden and more. Sheesh. For such a frugal family, they sure love to eat out a lot.

Expensive Trip To Illinois

You would think that the Duggar family would learn from their past mistakes. But unfortunately, that’s not always the case with them. The Duggar family was heavily criticized for taking a lavish family trip to Illinois back in the summer of 2017. It all began when Josh Duggar and his wife Anna were spotted boarding a private plane with their family.

Apparently, Josh and Anna went to visit the rehab center that Josh stayed at during his scandalous summer of 2015. While no one knows the true purpose of their trip, a lot of people thought it was a pretty lavish and if not unnecessary way of getting around. I mean, are the Duggars too good for economy flights? Plus, where are they getting their private planes from these days?

They Also Fly To Church On Their Private Plane

Believe it or not, the Duggars have been caught not once, not twice, but several times flying to church in their private planes (yes, they reportedly have more than just one plane). Seriously, is the traffic in Arkansas on a Sunday morning really that bad? Surely it can’t be.

Apparently, many media outlets reported that the Duggars flew by plane because they were worried about Josh Duggar’s safety following his scandals back in 2015. Not only did he harm his young sister as a teen (a controversy that the Duggars tried to cover up) but he also cheated on his wife Anna Duggar with an Ashley Madison account. Sorry, but we don’t think that all of those flights to church are going to help him. In fact, it almost seems like a waste of fuel!

Josh’s Rehab Stint

After Josh Duggar was outed as the biggest creep of 2015, the Duggars did what they do the best which was to try to get rid of the problem. They got rid of Josh Duggar by sending him off to a faith-based rehabilitation center to help him with his “addictions.” Uh huh.

Well, months went by and Josh was still missing from the Duggar scene. It turned out that he spent nearly six months in rehab while in Illinois. Getting treatment for that long had to have cost the Duggars plenty of Jesus dollars. Getting “fixed” isn’t cheap. Unless your name is Harvey Weinstein, we don’t know of a lot of people who can afford rehab for such a long period of time.

Jill And Derick’s Trips

Jill and Duggar have also gotten plenty of heat for the way they spend money, too. If that weren’t enough, they also ask for donations from their fans. You read that right – Jill and Derick have been caught asking their social media followers for donations to help fund their family while in Central America.

And while plenty of Christian families ask to get financial support for their missionary trips, a lot of people couldn’t help but wonder why Jill and Derick kept traveling back and forth from El Salvador to Arkansas. Who was paying for all of these quick trips back home? Fans assumed that their donations were going towards Jill and Derick’s trips back to the States, even though this was never confirmed. Either way, a lot of people didn’t like how Jill and Derick were asking for money and then blowing it away on their own expenses the next day.

They Have A Secret Maid

Believe it or not, the Duggars have a secret maid. However, it’s more like an open secret that everyone knows about. As a matter of fact, for years now people have been calling Jim Bob and Michelle’s daughter Jana the “Cinderella” of the Duggar family. That’s because she’s usually in charge of all the cleaning in the house. She also often babysits her younger siblings.

Not a lot of families can afford this kind of help. But for the Duggars, they’ve also insisted that their older kids should help out with their younger siblings. Unfortunately though, this has also become Jana Duggar’s full-time job and from what fans can tell, this isn’t a job that she wants. It must be nice having someone do half your job for you, right, Michelle Duggar?

Michelle's Many Christmas Gifts

Speaking of Michelle Duggar, a lot of people believe that she might be a hypocrite. That’s because she loves to brag about how frugal she is and how she does a great job of saving money and pinching pennies whenever she can. But apparently that’s not always the case.

Back in 2016, Michelle was heavily criticized for spending money on pricey Christmas gifts that year despite the fact that the family was going through what many believed to be a financial crisis. Their show was no longer on the air and they weren’t cashing in on any of those TLC pay checks. Still, Michelle wanted to make it a Christmas to remember. She was spotted going on a shopping spree with her daughter Jennifer Duggar with no care in the world.

Their Lavish Vacations

If there’s one thing for certain, it’s that the Duggar family doesn’t like to stay at home. In fact, they’ve gone on plenty of vacations all over the world. They took a month-long road trip to Los Angeles and have visited China and Japan. If that weren’t enough, Jim Bob and Michelle have also visited their daughter Jill and her husband Derick in Nepal.

While there’s nothing wrong with a little getaway here and there, could you imagine having to pay for 19 additional tickets for an overseas trip to a place like China? A trip like that can easily break the bank. There’s no way that your average, Christian, God-fearing family can afford that. But then again, the Duggars aren’t your average family. And they sure don’t have your average bank account, either.

They Love To Eat Out All The Time

With 19 kids at home, it has to be tough to cook dinner for so many people under one roof. There’s always going to be someone who will be unhappy with dinner, someone who won’t be hungry or someone who is going to skip out on the meal altogether. Plus, who has the time and energy to cook so much for so many people every day? Certainly not Michelle Duggar. It’s no wonder that they go out to eat pretty often.

Just by taking a look at the Duggar family social media accounts, you’ll see that Jim Bob and Michelle often go out, even if it’s just the two of them or with their entire family. Surely, their bills have to be outrageous! There’s no way that they can feed their entire family without spending several hundred dollars a day. Here’s hoping that they are good tippers, too.

Is Jim Bob A Compulsive Shopper?

The Duggars claim to be a frugal, God-loving Christian family who mean well in life. But, as many critics know, that might not be the case at all. There are reports that Jim Bob is a compulsive shopper who loves to enjoy all of the finer things in life.

When you think about it, this makes sense. Apparently, Jim Bob loves to buy “junk,” as one website likes to put it. He often goes to auctions and comes home with truckloads of things that the Duggars really don’t need like chairs, furniture, or whatever else he comes across. Some people say that it’s wasteful spending, others say that he’s a high-class hoarder. Whatever the case, it does sound like Jim Bob has a spending problem that often gets out of hand. Yikes.

Michelle’s Wedding Anniversary Gift

Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar have a very special relationship with one another. We know that. In fact, not an episode of 19 Kids & Counting went by without Jim Bob and Michelle reminding us of how special, loving and perfect their relationship is, all thanks to their faith and understanding for each other. That’s why Jim Bob bought his wife a specially designed ring with each of their 19 children’s birthstones. Talk about a nice, pricey anniversary gift, right?

Well, the only problem is that they were celebrating this milestone in the midst of one of their family’s worst controversies. This was back during the summer of 2015, when the entire world found out about their son Josh Duggar and his multiple scandals. The timing couldn’t have been worse for them.

Jill Duggar’s House

When Jill Duggar married her husband Derick Dillard back in 2015, the couple moved into a pretty big house. Actually, make that a pretty big mansion. It was a gift that was given to them by Jill’s parents, Jim Bob and Michelle.

Jill’s house was so fancy that it even made some of her siblings jealous. One report indicated that her younger sister Jessa Duggar was furious that Jill was given a McMansion while she had to settle into a filthy, secondhand home when she married her husband, Ben Seewald. Despite the nice house, Jill and Derick soon moved to Central America for their missionary work in 2015. They ended up moving into a small, modest home during their time in El Salvador while their house back in Arkansas remained empty. So much for living large, right?

Jessa Duggar’s Baby Shower

Jessa Duggar made headlines when she put some pretty lavish, if not unnecessary things on her baby registry back in 2015. While there’s no doubt that a lot of people need the basic baby essentials before their newborn arrives, Jessa and her husband Ben Seewald asked for things that sounded more like presents for them than their baby.

I mean, does a new mother really need an Apple iPod touch for almost $200? They also asked for a fancy and expensive LeapFrog device and a selfie stick. Whatever happened to just asking for diapers and wipes? We understand that Jessa loves to take selfies, but a lot of people thought that this was a tacky gift to ask for. But then again, this is the Duggar family that we are talking about. "Tacky" should be everyone's middle name in that family.

All Of the Duggar Family Weddings

When a Duggar gets married, everyone knows about it. As a matter of fact, everyone in their community is also invited to the wedding ceremony and reception. That’s right: the Duggars love to invite their entire neighborhood to see them exchange their vows and have their very first kiss with their new spouse. It might seem tacky, but that’s just the way the Duggars do it.

Of course, a lot of people believe that Jim Bob and Michelle love to invite everyone because they think they are Arkansas royalty. There’s also the assumption that they expect gifts from all of their guests. It’s not like you can go to a wedding empty-handed, right? The Duggars sure are a sneaky bunch, if you know what we mean.
