Kim Kardashian and Kanye West are looking more and more like Ozzie and Harriet with each passing day. Well, they might lead more interesting lives than the Nelsons did, but Kim and Kanye are settling into their roles as parents quite nicely. Kim gave birth to the couple’s first daughter in 2013 and she gave birth to a son in 2015. They must really enjoy parenthood because the couple announced the birth of their third child on January 15, 2018. It’s a girl and they have decided to name her Chicago. Unlike their first two children, North and Saint, the couple decided to use a surrogate. Not much is known about this mystery surrogate except for the fact that she wasn’t invited to Kim’s baby shower.
Celebrities using surrogates is nothing new. Robert De Niro, Nicole Kidman, and Sarah Jessica Parker are just a few of the many celebrities that have used one. Like everyone else, the rich and famous use surrogates for any number of reasons, such as age or impotency. Using a surrogate is an obvious option for same-sex couples. It’s a medical issue in Kim and Kanye’s case. Kim suffers from a condition known as placenta accreta which is potentially life threatening. This condition occurs when blood vessels and parts of the placenta grow too far into the wall of the uterus which leads to the placenta remaining attached after birth. It can also cause bleeding during pregnancy and lead to premature birth.
No matter what the reason is, using a surrogate is more common than one might think. Let’s take a look at 15 more celebrities who used a surrogate.
