Way back in 2001, when Paul Walker and his day-glow green muscle car zoomed across the screen in that first scene of The Fast and the Furious, nobody could have imagined that the relatively low-budget, no-major-stars vehicle would become the most successful movie franchise ever. But then it did...in a very big way. Before The Fate of the Furious, the eighth film in the series, the franchise had already broke world box office records in April of 2014, by taking over $500 million in its first weekend. It had amassed a whopping $4 billion in worldwide box office. Of the original cast, only Vin Diesel and Michelle Rodriguez are still hanging in there. Along the way, the franchise picked up everybody's go-to action hero, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, and lost hunky Paul Walker in a fiery car crash. Gal Gadot and Eva Mendes have come and gone. Fortunes have been amassed by the hot actors who bring those mean racing and heist streets to life. We are talking jaw-dropping wealth at the top of the heap. So, here's a list of 15 of the richest actors of The Fast and the Furious franchise.
15 Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson - $185 Million
Dwayne Johnson is a big guy with an even bigger fortune. Former college football jock and wrestler extraordinaire, The Rock has become the go-to action figure in Hollywood. Since 2009, he has kicked butts and cracked heads as agent Luke Hobbs in a string of Fast and Furious films. And speaking of kicking stuff, rumor has it that he called co-star Vin Diesel a "candya**." Well, in the battle of the biceps, The Rock wins hands down with those 20 inch muscles. Let's face it, in addition to runaway hit The Fate of the Furious, Johnson's name is currently linked to some thirteen upcoming movies, including the Baywatch and Jumanji reboots. These days, he is pure box office gold. It won't be long until he breaks that $200-million barrier. You can bet on it.
14 Charlize Theron - $110 Million
Charlize Theron nearly steals the show playing the nasty hacker villain Cipher in 2017's The Fate of the Furious. Hey, she even gets to smooch Dom (Vin Diesel) in front of Letty who, by the way, was totally pissed off in that scene. But Charlize and Vin seemed to be having a great time. See, Cipher apparently has coaxed Dom over to the dark side. So, he's fighting Letty and her gang? In a word, YES. For much of the movie, Cipher is sitting behind a bank of computers doing things like sending in an ice-breaking submarine to chase the good guys. Meanwhile, Dom is sullen and sulky. South African Charlize does villain and sultry evil very well. In fact, it's earned her $110 million and then some.
13 Vin Diesel - $100 Million
The guy was beaten into third place by Hobbs and Cipher. So, he's probably counting his $100 million, while throwing a fit. Vin Diesel has turned Dom Toretto into an iconic streetwise anti-hero guy. Before signing on to do the first Fast and Furious film in 2001, he had been knocking around Hollywood doing just okay. These days? He earns big bucks starring in the films, as well as cashing in as one of the producers of the franchise. And in his spare time, he does superhero voices in The Guardians of the Galaxy and Avengers. Dom will be back big time, as Vinnie has already signed on to do films number nine and ten. He better be getting more money than The Rock, or else...
12 Kurt Russell - $70 Million
The genius of Fast and Furious is that the films have never been afraid to throw in off-the-wall plots, impossible stunts, and outrageous characters. Like super-secret spy master, Mr. Nobody, played with tongue very firmly in cheek by Kurt Russell, in Furious 7 and The Fate of the Furious. So, we've got Cipher sending robot submarines against the good guy forces put together by any means necessary by Mr. Nobody. And, trust us, he will stop at nothing to get his way. Kurt Russell, a veteran of decades and decades of Hollywood drivel, seems to be having a grand time. Not to mention, a fat paycheck. Old actors never die. They just get richer and richer.
11 Helen Mirren - $50 Million
She's in her 70's and a Dame of the British Empire. It's like a female knight and about as high as you can go honor-wise. Helen Mirren has done it all, from Shakespeare to being a tough hard-drinking lady cop in the TV series Prime Suspect. But, starting with a star turn as a gun-toting retired agent alongside Bruce Willis in Red, Helen has been kicking a** as a no-nonsense woman of a certain age in a string of successful films. Forget Shakespeare. Bring on the big bucks. In her uncredited turn in The Fate of the Furious, she is Magdalene Shaw, the mother of nasty villains and Dom-stalkers Owen and Deckard Shaw. She is having lots of fun these days. And adding to that $50 million fortune of hers.
10 Jason Statham - $40 Million
One look at the guy and you just know he was born to play nasty villains. And it's a gig that pays well, allowing Jason Statham (not exactly a household name) to rake in $40 million on the quiet. When he's not acting, the 50-year-old English actor is doing his own stunts and fight scenes. He's a real deal tough guy and a competent martial artist (as in Black Belt) who can throw in a spot of Kung Fu and kickboxing. In Fast and Furious, he plays total bad guy and Dom-hater Deckard Shaw. Statham has also cracked heads and picked up big bucks in Transporter and The Expendables. Apparently, Statham as Shaw and The Rock as Luke Hobbs have great onscreen chemistry. A bromance kind of thing.
9 Michelle Rodriguez - $34 Million
A year before the first Fast and Furious film, Michelle Rodriguez was a fighter in Girlfight. But beginning in 2001, she became Letty Ortiz, the bad-a** street racer who gave the boys a run for their money and won the heart of hardhearted Dom Toretto. She kicks a** with the best of them. It surprises some that Michelle Rodriguez has amassed a $34 million fortune, but she has worked hard and steadily in a series of action films and is an in-demand voice over artist for video games and animated films. Letty hasn't always had an easy time of it. She's almost been killed off, but lived, only to see Dom go over to Cipher and the dark side. Say it isn't so. But it is.
8 Chris "Ludacris" Bridges - $31 Million
When you see Ludacris' character, Tej Parker, in this year's The Fate of the Furious, he's driving the ultimate boy toy, a tank with a high mounted machine gun. And he's flying across the ice in Iceland trying to get out of the way of an ice-busting submarine. It's a real Fast and Furious kind of tongue-in-cheek and outrageous moment. Could it happen in real life. No way. That's why we love it. Tej is a kind of retired street racer and mechanic who ends up in Dom's gang. And Tyrese Gibson as Roman Pearce gets to come out with some of the funniest wise-cracks the films have to offer. Ludacris made his millions mostly with his signature rap style, but has been such a hit in the Fast and Furious films. He keeps getting asked back for more star turns. The rich just get richer.
7 Paul Walker - $25 Million
Impossibly good-looking with piercing blue eyes, Paul Walker, with his love of speed and cars, was the perfect pick for sometime rogue FBI agent Brian O'Conner. Brian soon falls in love with Dom's sister Mia (Jordana Brewster) and joins forces with Dom for a spot of bank robbery (and worse). He was in the first scene of the first movie and became a stand-out star of the franchise. Then, in 2013 in the middle of filming Furious 7, Paul took a break from filming to return to Los Angeles for Thanksgiving. A few days later, he was dead; the victim of a fatal car crash when the Porsche in which he was riding slammed into a tree at a high speed. He left his fortune to his daughter, Meadow, and she has, since his death, filed lawsuits, most notably against Porsche. He was barely 40 when he died. At the time of his death, Paul, The Rock and Vin Diesel were the highest grossing stars in Hollywood.
6 Tyrese Gibson - $25 Million
He's made a fortune playing Roman Pearce, the fast-talking, wise-cracking, speed-addicted member of Dom's gang. And in the new film, Roman's driving a half-million-dollar Lamborghini Murcielago, an orange one. Tyrese Gibson has seamlessly transitioned from singer/songwriter to in-demand Hollywood star. He and Brian (Paul Walker) had a bromance going. At one point, Brian asks if he's ready for a spot of bother. "Come on, man," he says. "Guns, murderers, and crooked cops. I was made for this, bro." He's proved he was indeed made for the franchise. And more good news: Tyrese has already signed up for the next film, number nine. We can't wait!
5 Eva Mendes - $15 Million
Eva Mendes played Monica Fuentes, a hot Latina undercover U.S. Customs Agent on the trail of an evil drug lord called Carter Verone. Then, out of the blue, Brian O'Conner and Tej Parker cross her path while she's doing her undercover thing. Poor Monica then gets the hots for Brian and blows her cover to help him. Alas, she and Brian just weren't meant to be, but Monica did strut her stuff in a couple of films before riding into the sunset alone. But in real life, she and her $15 million are loved up with boy toy Ryan Gosling and his $30 million. She's a 40-something and he's 30-something, but who cares?
4 Luke Evans - $6 Million
Welsh actor Luke Evans has gone from Girl on the Train to playing Gaston in Beauty and the Beast, and is now lighting up the screen playing evil, evil Owen Shaw in The Fate of the Furious. Nasty mama Shaw is played by Helen Mirren. What is ex-Special Forces Major and dedicated mercenary Owen Shaw after all? Simple. He wants to make a lot of money selling Nightshade, a gizmo that takes down power grids, to the highest bidder and, oh yes, he wants to totally "break" Dom Toretto (Vin Diesel) who took down Owen's equally wicked brother Deckard. Evans is one busy actor. He's got a staggering total of five blockbuster movies coming out in 2017. Being a beast and a bad guy pays well. Don't you think?
3 Elsa Pataky - $5 Million
Elsa Pataky totally owns Elena Neves, a tough cop in Rio de Janeiro who gets recruited by DSS (Diplomatic Security Service) Agent Luke Hobbs, played by Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and his 20-inch biceps. Trust us, you don't want to mess with Elena Neves. Off the screen, the Spanish hottie is married to Thor (Chris Hemsworth) and is into rollerblading. Chris is worth a cool $71 million, which when added to Elsa's respectable $5 million, means the two are leading the totally good life in L.A. with three kids in tow. There has been talk of a spin-off centering on Luke Hobbs' character. So, watch this space. That $5 million could be just the beginning.
2 Lucas Black - $3 Million
The Alabama native hit the franchise as central character Sean Boswell in 2006's The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift. The movie was not a huge success, at least in Fast and Furious terms, but his character has already been featured in three Fast and Furious films to date, with Black already signed to do Fast and Furious 9 in 2019. Yes, two years to wait, with number ten due out in 2021! Black stays pretty busy with a regular gig on TV's NCIS: New Orleans, where his strong Alabama twang and lopsided smile have won the fans over. $3 million and counting. They don't call Lucas Black "Lucky" for nothing.
1 Jordana Brewster - $2 Million
A big part of her 2 million dollars comes from playing Mia Toretto, the sister of street racer Dom Toretto in five Fast and Furious films. Pretty early on in the franchise, she was also all loved up with FBI agent Brian O'Conner (Paul Walker). But when, in the middle of filming Furious 7, Paul Walker was killed in a fiery car crash when the Porsche being driven by his friend, Roger Rodas, slammed into a tree at high speed, the writing was on the wall for Jordana Brewster. With the help of Walker's brothers and some intensive computer-generated imagery, the film was completed and Brian and Mia zoomed off together into "retirement." These days, the much in-demand 30-something Jordana is strutting her stuff in the TV series Lethal Weapon. We predict many more millions in this Brazilian-American actress' bank account.
