Most of us can only imagine how life is for some of today's 20-something celebrities, who seem to have everything going for them in life, from the looks of a fashion model to the bank account of a big time CEO. But the reality is that they live in a world where the stars of today are very easily forgotten by tomorrow, as there will always be someone younger, better-looking, and more motivated than them ready to steal the spotlight. No matter if we're talking about Hollywood actors, world class musicians, or people who are famous for "something else," one of the main ways to stay relevant in the fast-paced world of the entertainment industry is to look sizzling in front of the cameras. And while buying the very best clothes and hiring a top personal stylist will do the job for a while, there's one thing that, no matter how famous you are, you can't run away from, and that's getting older. Or can you?
There are some celebrities who seem to have won the battle against ageing, despite having very stressful and demanding careers, while others don't seem to be able to keep up. The secret might be great genetics or simply taking good care of yourself, although there are a few cases that seem like they've just come out of a time machine from the past. Maybe they can share some of their tips and tricks with those that are clearly losing the battle against time.
15 Staying Young: Halle Berry
The former Bond girl definitely seems to have some Aces up her sleeve when it comes to maintaining her youthful appearance. Although Halle Berry seems to have taken a little break, given that the last movie we've seen her in is the 2014 X-Men: Days of Future Past, she definitely didn't let herself go when it comes to looking stunning. The now 50-year-old mother of two claims that she manages to stop the clock by taking very good care of her skin and protecting it against the sun, as the harmful rays are one of the main causes of wrinkles and skin damage. Whatever products she's using, it's clear that she also has some amazing genetics as I have not heard of any creams that will keep you looking 30 for 20 years.
14 Getting Old: Pamela Anderson
Long gone are the days when Pam was the celebrity crush of every teenage boy in the country. The 49-year-old star, who holds the record for most Playboy cover appearances, seems to have lost her bombshell status. Although if you consider her age, she doesn't look bad at all. I mean, in the land of normal 49-year-olds, she's still hot AF. But over the time, we've learned to hold celebrities to a much higher standard when it comes to looks; especially the ones whose careers were built on that. Although with the right clothes and good makeup she can still turn some heads even today. However, it is undeniable that Pamela is definitely showing her age. Lately she's been very much involved with animal rights organisation, PETA. She's also rumored to be dating Wikileaks founder Julian Assange. You can see how she's holding up in the 2017 remake of Baywatch where she'll play an older version of her iconic character, CJ Parker.
13 Staying Young: Will Smith
Will Smith has managed to keep his status as one of the most sought-after actors in Hollywood for over two decades, from his early success with The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air to portraying the superhero, Deadshot, in last year's Suicide Squad. Apart from his undisputed acting abilities, there is also something else that helped Will maintain and actually elevate his popularity over so many years—his seemingly never changing looks. Honestly, if they make a Will Smith biopic, he can play himself at all ages and nobody will be able to say that it's in any way inaccurate. He is also regarded as one of the most bankable movie stars, as his movies have grossed over $7.5 billion at the global box office so far, and he doesn't seem to plan on slowing down anytime soon.
12 Getting Old: Johnny Depp
This might not please everyone, as Johnny Depp is one of the most adored actors of his generation. But I think we can't argue that in the last years, he started to show his age more and more. After all, the man who brought us so many memorable characters, from Willy Wonka to Jack Sparrow, will be turning 54 in June, and that's not quite a young age especially if you've lived such a wild life like Johnny has. His years might have finally caught up to him but thanks to his unmistakable charisma, he's still one of the most desired men in Hollywood, especially after his divorce from Amber Heard earlier this year. All in all, we can't wait to see him return as Captain Jack in the 5th installment of the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, and hope that he'll start taking better care of himself.
11 Staying Young: Rob Lowe
Rob Lowe follows Johnny Depp on this list for one simple reason, they're both the same age, so just take a little time and compare their transformation over the years. Let's be honest. We all saw Captain Jack searching for the fountain of youth in the last Pirates movie, but it seems that Rob Lowe found it a long time ago. The prolific actor credits his youthfulness to daily physical exercise, skin cream, and sobriety. In his 20's, Rob struggled with alcohol addiction, but he emerged to become a role model as he's been sober for the last 25 years.
10 Getting Old: Britney Spears
Britney Spears was, at one point, one of the most popular artists in the world, topping every chart and selling out stadiums all year long. And while she's still doing quite good for herself, there is no arguing that her best days are behind her. At one point, Britney was named the sexiest woman in music by Billboard magazine, and it seems that all that pressure of being the "Princess of Pop" has taken a toll on her appearance. Ever since her lowest point, back in 2007 when she suffered a breakdown and shaved her head entirely, she's been trying to bring back her career. To be fair to her, she somehow succeeded in doing so, considering that the music scene has completely changed from how it was back in Britney's glory days. Personal problems have been definitely slowing her down in this whole process and her appearance has changed quite a bit, especially considering that she's only 35 years old.
9 Staying Young: Joseph Gordon-Levitt
There aren't many child stars that manage to stay relevant as they get older, and Joseph Gordon-Levitt is definitely a great example of that. He made his first appearance in a movie at the age of six, and he's been at it ever since, starring in blockbusters like Inception, The Dark Knight Rises, and more recently, Snowden. He also looks like a guy who just finished college, even if he's actually 36 years old and already has a 2-year-old son. Actually, at one point, Joseph thought of giving up his acting career and go to college at Columbia University. Fortunately for his fans, he dropped out and decided to focus on his acting.
8 Getting Old: Russell Crowe
Born in New Zealand 53 years ago, Russell Crowe is now one of the most appreciated and accomplished actors in Hollywood, having starred in a number of critically acclaimed films like A Beautiful Mind, American Gangster, The Insider and Ridley Scott's Gladiator, for which he received the highest honor any actor can ever dream of—the Academy Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role. As he seems to have aged quite a bit in the last years, he's been taking roles of older men, like the biblical figure, Noah, or Superman's father in Man of Steel. One of the actor's unhealthy habits that definitely affected his appearance and health is smoking, which he started at the very young age of 10 and eventually built up to a very worrying 60 cigarettes a day. In 2010, he said in an interview that he had quit his lifelong smoking habit for the sake of his children, but it appears he's back after he separated from his wife in 2012. It's a good thing he built his career on talent, not on looks.
7 Staying Young: Jennifer Aniston
Ever since her big break with the hit sitcom Friends, people from around the world fell in love with Jennifer Aniston and the characters she portrayed. Now, 23 years after she first appeared on the small screen as Rachel Green, it seems that little has changed when it comes to her appearance. A testament to that is the fact that Jennifer was named "The Most Beautiful Woman" by People magazine first in 2004 and then 12 years later in 2016. The actress is firmly opposed to plastic surgery and credits her youthful appearance to great genetics, high quality skincare products, and drinking lots and lots of water.
6 Getting Old: Axl Rose
The rockstar lifestyle might be a great deal of fun when you're young but it's quite possible that with time, you will experience some negative effects regarding your health and appearance. A good example of that is Guns N' Roses lead vocalist Axl Rose, whose years of touring and hardcore partying appear to have caught up to him. As far as his looks go, he's almost unrecognizable from the fresh-faced skinny frontman that took the world by storm in the 80's with his powerful wide vocal range and energetic performances. He also had numerous health problems over the years, and even his one in a million voice is not quite how it used to be anymore. He's now rumored to be working on an album with AC/DC, as he replaced Brian Johnson during their 2016 world tour after his hearing loss worsened and he was advised not to perform anymore.
5 Staying Young: Pharrell Williams
If his musical style shifted over the years, from hip-hop and soul to R&B and pop, not the same thing can be said about his looks. Pharrell Williams is and has been, for quite some time, one of the most sought after producers in the music industry. His work has earned him no less than ten Grammy Awards and two Academy Award nominations so far. And with the release of his second studio album, Girl, in 2014, it seems that he's only getting started. Although he started his music career over 20 years ago, the 44-year-old father of four still looks like he's fresh out of his teenage years. He credits his youthfulness to taking good care of his face and drinking lots of water.
4 Getting Old: Lindsay Lohan
Lindsay Lohan is probably the best example of child stars that struggled later in their career because of the bad decisions they have made as regards their personal life. She started out as a child fashion model from the age of three. At the age of 11, she starred in Disney's hit remake of The Parent Trap. From that point, Lohan slowly became a teen sensation and a regular on tabloid covers. Sadly, her success led her to a lifestyle of excessive partying and substance abuse, which in turn negatively affected her career. She was arrested multiple times for DUI and that led to her being put on probation in 2007. In the following years, she struggled with legal problems from other misdemeanors and probation violations, which led to her losing several movie deals. Her lifestyle definitely took a toll on her appearance and it might get a lot worse, considering that 30 is still quite young.
3 Staying Young: Paul Rudd
You might know Paul Rudd as the shrinking superhero Ant-Man or the hilarious news anchor Brian Fantana from the Anchorman movies. He's a great comedy actor, and what's even greater is the fact that he doesn't really age at all. There's a 13-year difference between the photos above, and it basically looks like he just shaved and put on a bow tie. If anything, the beard actually makes him look older in the picture that was taken more than a decade ago. All we know about the 48-year-old father of two is that he's a big believer in sunscreen, not in order to stay away from wrinkles, but to prevent skin cancer. Maybe, given the fact that he's such a funny guy, one of his secrets could be laughing much and often. As the old saying goes: "Always laugh when you can. It's cheap medicine!"
2 Getting Old: Macaulay Culkin
Macaulay Culkin of Home Alone was once regarded as one of the most successful child actors in Hollywood history, but it seems that all the weight on the shoulders of someone so young is often too hard to bear. Fast-forward to 20 years and you get an unrecognizable, chain-smoking pale shadow of the little boy that stole everyone's hearts with his portrayal of Kevin McCallister. It's not very clear what caused Culkin to change in such a dramatic way, but it's rumored that he battled heroin addiction for several years. He was arrested in 2004 for possession of marijuana and two other controlled substances and received three one-year suspended prison sentences. He's currently part of a comedy rock band called The Pizza Underground, and it appears that he's overcome his addictions and is in a much better place than before.
1 Staying Young: Keanu Reeves
I have not yet met a person who would tell me that they don't like Keanu Reeves, simply because there shouldn't really be someone like that. I mean, how could you not like him? He's an amazing actor who brought us one of the most iconic characters in movie history, the only man who could control the Matrix, Neo (or you can call him The One). As if that wasn't enough to like him, Keanu is also an amazing guy, as he gave away the better part of his earnings from the Matrix franchise (more than $100 million) to people in the production staff of the movies. Oh, and he's also allegedly immortal. Apparently, there are a lot of people that don't think Keanu's never-changing face is all about healthy living. There are numerous websites dedicated to proving that the actor is in fact immortal and has been living throughout the centuries taking different identities. That might seem a little far-fetched, but how else could we explain his "lack of" transformation over so many years? Lately, he's been growing a beard, probably to look a little older and not get any more people suspicious about his immortality.
