16 Secrets The Cast Of Grey's Anatomy Wants To Bury

From the very early days of Grey's Anatomy, the show has been known for having a good amount of behind-the-scenes drama. Hell, for some people, the antics off-camera are more exciting than the on-camera stuff. For a while there, it seemed that every couple of weeks, we heard of some new fight, some problem with the writing, or some controversy on the set. The stars were all blowing up into megastars, they were getting paid millions (many of them for the first time ever), and they all had egos the size of transport trucks. This was a recipe for disaster or a recipe for great publicity, depending on how you look at it. In hindsight, the creator, Shonda Rhimes, owes a lot of the show's (and hers too) success to all the scandal from the set. Amazingly, Rhimes created the show Scandal because of her experience on Grey's Anatomy.

Grey's Anatomy and its cast brought the press out in full force each week. The media was just waiting for the next big news to drop. Who was fighting with who? Who slept with who? It was captivating stuff. Well, now that the show has been on for 13 seasons, the cast are old and their lives aren't as interesting as they used to be. There are still some things going on there, but the majority of the drama has been left behind, and news has slowed down considerably. We do, however, have greater access to all the information from the set of yesteryear. Stories have been told, secrets have been unleashed, and now, we want to air out all this nasty laundry. Everything on this list is something that the cast and crew from Grey's Anatomy wish they could just forget about entirely. They wish we would forget about all the drama, too. But if there are two things we remember most, it's the Titans and the Grey's Anatomy behind-the-scenes drama. These are the secrets that they wish we would stop talking about. Sorry, this stuff is just too important. The world needs to know. Here are 16 Secrets the Cast of Grey’s Anatomy Wants to Bury Next.

16 Washington And Dempsey Fight

Isaiah Washington has got some bad press several times in his career, much of it stemming from one single event. This event was a fight between him and Patrick Dempsey on the set of Grey's Anatomy. It led to other things which we will get into later, but it was said to have started because Dempsey was late to set. Washington told Larry King that when Dempsey wanted to delay the shoot even longer after he already showed up late, Washington said no. At that point, "[Dempsey] became unhinged, sprayed spittle in my face," Washington said. "I'm asking him why is he screaming at me…He just becomes irate." Although the two stars downplayed the event afterward, other cast members have said it was a crazy to witness.

15 Isiah Washington The Homophobic Guy

Isaiah Washington is a confused man. During his fight with Dempsey, he got himself into some big trouble by saying "several bad words." He recalled saying, "There's no way you're going to treat me like the B-word, the P-word or the F-word." Now, this caused a stir, and Washington made a public apology. One of the gay members of the cast, TR Knight, took offense to the slur so Washington defended himself, claiming he didn't intend to be homophobic. He used the term as a form of weakness. But then, backstage at the Golden Globes after winning an award with the cast, Washington was asked about the slur. Here is where the confusion really became obvious. Rather than reiterating his apology for using the inappropriate term, Washington fell back into defending why he used it. Perhaps feeling innocent or capable of using the term freely, he also just openly repeated the slur again. Just stop talking, man.

14 Shonda Rhimes Fight With ABC

Shonda Rhimes likes to talk to the press. She is constantly dropping little nuggets of gossip to get everyone talking. It works...like really well. She's been giving the press lots to talk about for years too. There was the time when then-head of ABC's entertainment, Steve McPherson, and Rhimes got into it. He has since resigned amid s*xual harassment reports, but Rhimes openly discussed when she fought with McPherson, stating, "He said really horrible things to me…I literally started keeping a list of how many times he said a certain swear word to me." We'll never know exactly what that word was, but if the reports about McPherson are true, it was probably pretty scandalous.

13 Slammed For Bad CPR Info

Even though there have been a few reports about Grey's Anatomy helping people, such as that one person who they discovered was suffering from a rare condition after they saw it on the air, or the girl who saved her mother's life because of the technique she saw on the show, there have been several doctors who have come out and said that the show is doing more harm than good. Apparently, much of this stems from the CPR technique and results shown on Grey's Anatomy. Allegedly, the show makes it seem that nearly 75% of patients who require CPR were saved and discharged when it's actually closer to 25%. Add to that all the complaints about how a doctor's life is dramatized so freely, and you've revealed the show's biggest secret—they have no frickin' clue what they're talking about.

12 Eric Dane's Rehab Stint

Eric Dane has been in a few of the salacious reports from the set of Grey's Anatomy. Recently, one of the more under-reported events was when Dane checked himself into rehab for an addiction to pain medication. A rep for the actor released the statement, "Actor Eric Dane voluntarily checked himself into a treatment facility to help him get off of pain medication that he was prescribed for a sports injury that he suffered over the recent hiatus. He reports back to work this week. Business as usual." Now, taking a step like this is commendable for Dane, but it's just more of the same for the dysfunctional Grey's Anatomy team.

11 Debbie Allen Says Too Much

Perhaps it's not really on the hush-hush since Debbie Allen offered this information freely at the time, but maybe she didn't think it all the way through. You might think that it would be the money or the fame that kept Allen interested in Grey's Anatomy for so long, but that's not what she says is her favorite part. Playing Catherine Avery now for many seasons, Allen's admitted that it's the fake lovemaking with Dr. Webber that keeps her engaged. Webber, played by James Pickens Jr., must be doing something right in those fake intimacy scenes. It seems that Allen isn't faking. Now, maybe you're thinking this is harmless stuff, but we'd like to think Pickens' wife of 30+ years isn't too fond of Allen talking so openly about this type of thing.

10 All Those Crimes

One of the biggest complaints that medical professionals have with Grey's Anatomy is that the show constantly has doctors committing major crimes in the name of medicine with no consequences. We've seen Grey's doctors do things that would have them in jail in real life but instead they get promotions on the show. Take for example the time when Izzie's do-not-resuscitate (DNR) order was completely ignored, and she came back to life looking better than ever before. Or the time that Izzie cut that dude's LVAD (left ventricular assist device) to make him sicker so that he would get a transplant quicker. C'mon! It's like they're not even trying to be realistic. It's fine if someone does this on the show, but there's a responsibility to truth. Show Izzie getting taken away in handcuffs and thrown into prison where she belongs, please!

9 Where Did Erica Hahn Go?

The character of Dr. Erica Hahn, played by Brooke Smith, wasn't the longest-lasting member of the cast. She originally came in to replace Dr. Preston Burke after he left the show. She planned on having a longer stint, though. She was set up as the love interest for Sara Ramirez' character, Dr. Callie Torres. That's right, a gay couple. When she was asked to leave the show, it was said that the writers were unable to "write for her character." The dirty rumors behind the scenes were that the network felt a little weird about the explicitness of the gay relationship on Grey's Anatomy, so they put a cork in it. Smith commented on this, saying of the network's cold feet, "I'm starting to realize that not everyone feels the way I do." They've since denied the validity to this, but we don't believe them and neither does Smith.

8 Katherine Heigl Being A Heigl

Katherine Heigl's time on Grey's Anatomy was celebrated for a while, but these days, it's looked at as a window into the actress' soul. After winning awards for her performance on the show, Heigl opened her mouth and made a fool of herself. Feeling like a megastar and getting movie offers everywhere, Heigl turned full diva. After being nominated for an Emmy again, Heigl used the press as a platform to complain about her character's development. She turned down the award nomination, stating that she didn't feel that the writing of the character deserved an award. This is what you call spitting in the writers' faces. Because of this, Heigl's character's screen time was decreased the following season, and she was eventually written off the show.

7 Heigl's Departure

A couple of years after Katherine Heigl had been axed from the show and all the dirty laundry was aired, the creator, Rhimes, appeared in a TV Guide interview and added some extra fuel to the fire. Rhimes, never one to avoid publicity stunts, slammed Heigl in a not-so-subtle insult. When asked about how things were left with Heigl, Rhimes said, "On some level, it stung and on some level, I was not surprised. When people show you who they are, believe them." Later, when Rhimes was talking about how the set is so productive now and there are no problem people, she also said, "There are no Heigls in this situation," basically equating the actress' name to a jerk or worse.

6 TR Knight's Departure

TR Knight left Grey's Anatomy with plenty of things to say. Although he pretended like he was taking the high road and not saying anything, the comments he did give were loaded to the brim with animosity. After his character was killed off, Knight suggested that he was killed because he came out as gay in real life. Rhimes denied these claims. Knight also said that he was asked to leave the show because of a "gradual breakdown of communication." He added, "My five-year experience proved to me that I could not trust any answer that was given [about George, his character]." Maybe he was just killed off because it suited the story.

5 Pompeo Talking Smack

It wasn't just Shonda Rhimes who was talking about the Heigl situation. The entire cast had something to say about it. The show's star, Ellen Pompeo, was asked about it, and she mixed diplomacy with a quick jab or two. Pompeo said of Heigl, "It was tough. You could understand why she wanted to go—when you're offered $12 million a movie and you're only 26. But Katie's problem is that she should not have renewed her contract. She re-upped, took a big raise, and then tried to get off the show. And then, her movie career did not take off."

4 Dempsey Interview Leaked

The relationship between Patrick Dempsey and the Grey's Anatomy team was shaky at best, but no one expected the star to be axed when he was. Well, no one expected it until an interview with Dempsey regarding his exit from the show leaked ahead of schedule. The leak apparently came when some subscribers were sent their issues of Entertainment Weekly early. On the cover was the headline "The Doctor Is…Out" and a picture of Dempsey. In the issue was an interview conducted with the man discussing his death on the show and what his plans are next. These subscribers got the magazine before the Dempsey death episode had aired. They then did what any sane person would do. They posted it on social media and ruined the surprise for everyone else in the world.

3 Dempsey's Dismissal

As we said, Dempsey's departure from the show was kind of expected, but his status on the program made it difficult to believe why it had to happen. After he was killed off, the rumor mill started churning at full speed. Some said that it was the result of Dempsey's diva antic on set finally catching up with him. Shonda Rhimes then said in an interview that she has killed off a character in the past because she didn't like the actor. This led many to assume that she was talking about Dempsey. Dempsey was also allegedly involved in a "messy and emotional" affair with a staff member from the show. While everyone denied this to be true or had anything to do with Dempsey's dismissal, this rumor refused to go away. Sounds like he had a pretty good time on set.

2 Justin Chambers Affair Rumors

Despite the fact that Justin Chambers (Alex Karev on the show) has been married for more than 20 years and has kids, there were some serious allegations that he was having an affair with co-star Camilla Luddington (Jo Wilson on the show). A report came out stating that these two were spotted in a Los Angeles bar kissing openly and acting like a couple. There were also pictures of the two getting chummy to back these reports up. Although a representative for the show denied this was true, these two actors were known to do plenty of things together, such as the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge and some Twitter flirting. Who knows what else went on? The only thing we know for sure is that these two were definitely having an affair. Okay, maybe not for sure; but it makes for a pretty interesting rumor.

1 Eric Dane "Tape"

Back in 2009, things got a little spicy for Eric Dane, one of the stars of Grey's Anatomy, when a leaked video went viral. In the recording, a nude Dane, his nude wife, Rebecca Gayheart, and a nude Kari Ann Pineche, a former Miss Teen USA, all get friendly with each other. Although there wasn't anything particularly explicit in the tape, everyone was able to use their imaginations. It's actually a weird tape. It's just a bunch of naked people talking. That alone, however, was enough to bring some unwanted attention to Dane, his personal life, and the show, even though the publicity only served to help ratings.
