If you bring up the show Grey’s Anatomy to a room of people, you’re likely to get a range of reactions. The room could be full of men, who think the show is nothing more than a melodramatic medical drama, which it is to some extent. The room could also be full of women and those women could be obsessed with the show. And, let’s all be honest, it’s definitely a show that attracts a female audience, y’know with the love affairs and the monologues that definitely feel very Sex and the City-esque. However, guys who shun the medical drama may be missing out on a selling point: This is a show full of hot doctors.
Yep, dudes who dismiss Grey’s Anatomy as weepy women's television totally miss out on some of the hottest doctors to have ever been on television. And, what’s hotter than a hot doctor? These are television characters who are sexy, intelligent, and able to save your life. That’s hot. Of course, no real hospital would ever be full of this many hot docs but let’s all forget about the reality of it and embrace the super hot doctors of Grey’s Anatomy.
Below are 16 photos of Grey’s Anatomy doctors who are so incredibly hot they’ll make you wish you were sick.
Camilla Luddington (Dr. Jo Wilson)
Camilla Luddington, who plays Grey’s Anatomy’s Dr. Jo Wilson, is absolutely gorgeous. She's so gorgeous, you'd probably break a leg just for the opportunity to flirt with her.
Luddington's Jo Wilson was introduced in S9E1 ("Going Going Gone"). This was the first episode following the epic end of season eight, during which many of the main cast members were in a terrible plane accident. Since the plane accident killed off quite a few major characters, the show then had to fill the cast with some new blood – enter Jo Wilson.
Since no doctor can work at Grey Sloan Memorial without dating another doctor, Jo Wilson has spent most of her time on the series getting hot and heavy with Dr. Alex Karev (Justin Chambers), who is one of the few remaining characters to have been on the show since the very first episode.
Before getting her break on Grey’s Anatomy, Camilla Luddington voiced Lara Croft in a few Tomb Raider video games. In 2012, she appeared on both True Blood and Californication. OH, and in 2011, Camilla Luddington appeared in Lifetime’s William & Kate, playing Kate Middleton even though she really doesn’t look like Kate Middleton at all. Well, it is Lifetime, after all.
Chyler Leigh (Dr. Lexie Grey)
While Camilla Luddington may still be on Grey’s Anatomy, Chyler Leigh is unfortunately no longer on the show. Though, she did have a good run as Lexie Grey, as she appeared in 113 episodes between season three and season eight.
Chyler Leigh's Lexie Grey was Meredith Grey’s little sister. She was bubbly, weird, and had a photographic memory. Like Camilla Luddington’s Jo Wilson, Lexie Grey also got hot and heavy with Alex Karev at one point. (I'm going to play a fun game by keeping track of all the hotties on the list that Alex has hooked up with, because Alex is a low-key whore.) Lexie Grey was killed off the show in the tragic plane accident. Honestly, the plane crash episode will totally wreck you. I don’t care if you’re Dwayne Johnson, who I just assume cries very little. It will wreck you.
Since exiting Grey’s Anatomy, Chyler Leigh has joined Supergirl. So tune into Supergirl if you’re missing yourself some Chyler Leigh.
Ellen Pompeo (Dr. Meredith Grey)
OBVIOUSLY, Ellen Pompeo was going to be on this list. I mean, she’s the title character! It’s Grey’s Anatomy... as in Meredith Grey.
As Meredith Grey, Ellen Pompeo has appeared in all 292 episodes of the series and has cleaned up while doing so. Her net worth is estimated to be $30 million and it’s been reported that she makes about $300,000 per episode. At 24 episodes each season, she’s poised to bring home over $7mill for each following season of the show.
While Ellen Pompeo may now be rollin’ in the dough, that wasn’t always the case. She really, really worked her way to the top. Pompeo appeared on Law & Order, not just once, but twice as two different characters. She then landed small roles in Catch Me If You Can, Daredevil, and Old School. She also had a role in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind that was straight up deleted from the film. Ugh, being an actor can be rough, but at least it worked out for Ellen Pompeo.
Katherine Heigl (Dr. Izzie Stevens)
Katherine Heigl’s Dr. Izzie Stevens was one of the show’s original hotties, but she’s unfortunately no longer on the show.
We’ll first talk about the good times though, when Katherine Heigl played Izzie Stevens from the first episode of the series all the way through season six. Izzie was the sensitive character, who was overly attached to her patients. This sensitivity resulted in her engagement to heart patient Denny Duquette (Jeffrey Dean Morgan). Heigl’s performance during her character's short-lived love affair with Denny Duquette earned her an Emmy Award. The next year, Katherine Heigl did the unthinkable. She withdrew her name from Emmy contention, citing a lackluster storyline. I mean, that's the biggest F U to the writers and Shonda Rhimes.
So, the writers gave her character cancer, because that’s what happens when you piss off the writers, Katherine Heigl. Plus, a cancer storyline should surely provide for some meaty drama worthy of an Emmy nomination, right? Following her battle with cancer, Izzie Stevens basically ran away, leaving her work and her husband Alex Karev behind. And, that's right - husband Alex Karev! This makes Izzie Stevens the third doctor on our list to have banged Alex Karev.
Long story short, Katherine Heigl may be the worst but she’s still super hot.
Melissa George (Dr. Sadie Harris)
Of all the women we included on this list, Melissa George appeared in the fewest episodes, but she's so super hot that we couldn't not include her on the list.
Melissa George appeared in only 8 episodes during season five. She played Dr. Sadie Harris, who was, quite frankly, bat sh*t insane. She was Meredith’s friend, with whom she had traveled around Europe. If that still doesn’t ring a bell, Sadie was the intern who literally CUT HERSELF OPEN and told the other interns to operate on her. Like I said, bat shit insane. Sadie eventually left the program, confessing to lying her way into the program with hopes that Meredith would help her out. Ugh, so on second though, you probably wouldn’t want Sadie Harris to take care of you when you’re sick. But, Melissa George is still super hot.
Melissa George has had a really weird career, appearing in films like Sugar and Spice, Mulholland Drive, and The Amityville Horror, as well as several television shows. She's definitely not hurting for work, but her credits list is just all over the place.
Sarah Drew (Dr. April Kepner)
Sarah Drew’s Dr. April Kepner may be the cutest actress on this list. She’s maybe the cutest actress to have ever been on the show... or to have ever existed. She's just so stinkin' cute.
Sarah Drew entered the show as Dr. April Kepner during the Seattle Grace and Mercy West merger in season six. At this point, they introduced a truckload of new characters, y’know because it was a merger of two hospitals. So, Dr. April Kepner kind of flew under the radar for quite a bit. She was even let go and then brought back, only to fail her boards and be let go again and brought back again. April Kepner, she’s like glue, baby! You can’t get rid of her.
Before her break on Grey’s Anatomy, the red head cutie appeared on Everwood, Mad Men, and Supernatural. And oddly enough, Sarah Drew appeared on Private Practice as a young, pregnant woman. Considering the fact that Private Practice was a spinoff starring Kate Walsh as Addison Montgomery, this all definitely happened in the same universe. HOLES! That is totally a plot hole!
Kate Walsh (Dr. Addison Montgomery)
Since we just mentioned Kate Walsh/Dr. Addison Montgomery, let’s talk about her because she’s seriously hot.
Kate Walsh joined Grey’s Anatomy in the final episode of season one, when she shows up and says to Meredith, "And, you must be the woman who's been screwing my husband." BOOM. What a way to end a season one. Addison Montgomery then had a good run of Grey’s Anatomy, sticking around through the end of season three, then popping up for guest appearances in following seasons.
The reason Kate Walsh exited Grey’s Anatomy was because she was given a spinoff. Private Practice was ABC’s spinoff about Dr. Addison Montgomery trying to find herself in California. As far as spinoffs go, it wasn’t a failure. I mean, it ran for six seasons. That’s pretty impressive, though not as impressive as Grey’s Anatomy’s 14 seasons.
Most recently, Kate Walsh appeared on 13 Reasons Why, playing the mother of Hannah Baker who had committed suicide.
And yes, Alex Karev totally hooked up with Kate Walsh's Addison Montgomery. That's #4 for ol' slick Alex.
Nora Zehetner (Dr. Reed Adamson)
Nora Zehetner played Dr. Reed Adamson for 10 episodes during season six. Dr. Reed was one of the doctors introduced with the merger, aka when there were way too many doctors to keep track of. You may specifically remember Dr. Reed vividly as the first victim of the mass shooting. Yep, Dr. Reed was shot right in the head, which was one hell of an opening for a medical drama. Also, did they totally bake up that mass shooting storyline to get rid of all the extra merger characters? Quite possibly.
Since being shot off Grey’s Anatomy, Nora Zehetner has bounced around a bit, not working on much worth mentioning. Though, you may remember her from her appearance in 2005’s Brick. Brick was Rainn Johnson’s neo-noir set in a high school. It was weird and amazing. Johnson’s most famous film, Looper, is also weird and amazing. Rainn Johnson is directing the upcoming Star Wars: The Last Jedi, so he’s about to explode. Uh, Nora Zehetner, on the other hand, is… not doing much. So, yeah. She’s still gorgeous, though.
Caterina Scorsone (Dr. Amelia Shepherd)
Caterina Scorsone plays Dr. Amelia Shepherd, who is Derek Shepherd’s youngest sister. She’s mega hot, even though she may not have the most perfect hair in the world like Derek Shepherd. But, hair like Derek Shepherd/Patrick Dempsey is a rare comet. It happens very rarely. I mean, it’s really good hair, guys.
Unlike many of the other characters on the show, Dr. Amelia Shepherd first joined Private Practice during the third season. After Private Practice ended in 2013, Dr. Amelia Shepherd was written into Grey’s Anatomy. This worked out well since Amelia Shepherd is a neurosurgeon and, with Derek’s death in season 11, they were in need of a neurosurgeon.
Let’s just be clear, those Shepherd genes are out of this world. I mean, doctors… who are both hot… and McDreamy’s hair? OKAY.
Camilla Luddington (Yes, Again)
Alright, I included Camilla Luddington again, because MY GOD. She is gorgeous... like beyond gorgeous. I’m not sure why she hasn’t reached sex symbol heights of Megan Fox or Scarlett Johansson yet, but Camilla Luddington is on that level of sexy. The hair! The eyes! Okay, I’ll stop gushing. I just need you all to know how hot she is.
Camilla Luddington’s Dr. Jo Wilson is also mega hot because she’s scrappy. The character was shuffled from foster home to foster home until she turned 16, at which point she started living out of her car. From there, she worked her ass off and got into Princeton University, then she went to Harvard Medical School. Of all the characters on the show, Jo Wilson may actually have the best education, because, um hello, Princeton and Harvard!
Alright, so Dr. Jo Wilson is a doctor, who went to two Ivy League schools AND looks like that. She’s pretty much the most perfect.
Kelly McCreary (Dr. Maggie Pierce)
Kelly McCreary plays Dr. Maggie Pierce, who was introduced at the end of season ten. Her character replaced Dr. Cristina Yang, both surgically and emotionally. Maggie took over as the head of cardio, and she also took over as a person for Meredith Grey.
During her time on the show, it’s been revealed that Maggie Pierce is actually Meredith’s half-sister, as Ellis Grey had given Maggie up for adoption. So, Maggie is the love child of Ellis Grey and Richard Webber. DRAMA! What a tangled web of relations of Grey’s Anatomy! By the way, Meredith is always having sisters popping up left and right, from Lexie to Maggie. I mean, it may have only happened twice but to find out you have a sister you didn’t know about TWICE is a lot. That’s not, like, a normal occurrence.
Before joining the Grey’s Anatomy fam, Kelly McCreary appeared on Shonda Rhimes’ Scandal. ABC should probably just rename their network the Shonda Rhimes Network.
Chyler Leigh (Yes, Again!)
I HAD to include another picture of Chyler Leigh because she looked hot in her scrubs! GUYS, SHE LOOKED HOT IN HER SCRUBS. I mean, all of the gorgeous women on the show look good in their scrubs, but Chyler Leigh looked so hot. Get it, Lexie Grey.
Since she was so stunningly gorgeous, it’s no surprise that she won the heart of Mark Sloan (Eric Dane), who was Grey’s Anatomy’s biggest and baddest man whore. I don’t even feel bad calling his character a man whore since Dr. Miranda Bailey (Chandra Wilson) literally made a speech about him being a man whore. (Remember that moment? It was too good!)
Ah, but Lexie and Sloan may have had the most tragic love of all. They had gotten together several times, only to break up several times, even though they were totally soul mates. After a plane pretty much fell on Lexie, Mark was holding her hand and telling her about their bright future – the three kids they’d have – when Lexie died. Guys, IT WAS TRAGIC. Then, Mark Sloan died from his plane crash wounds, but I like to think that he literally couldn’t live without Lexie.
Sara Ramirez & Jessica Capshaw
This is a two for one since Dr. Callie Torres (Sara Ramirez) and Dr. Arizona Robbins (Jessica Capshaw) were in a relationship for a majority of the time they had been on the show. First of all, these characters are super hot on the show because they’re in a very hot, very committed lesbian relationship. While Arizona Robbins is a lesbian, Callie Torres is actually bisexual, which ends up being a point of contention in their relationship.
Both doctors are obviously gorgeous women. Sara Ramirez’s Callie Torres entered the show during the second season and stuck around through season twelve, which is one hell of a run. Her character left the Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital in order to follow her true love to New York. Meanwhile, Jessica Capshaw’s Arizona Robbins was introduced in season five and is still on the show.
Keeping the Alex Karev Bang List going, he totally got it on with Callie. So, that's #5.
Katherine Heigl (Yes, Again)
Yep, Katherine Heigl again because she’s so smokin’ hot even though she’s also pretty awful.
Alright, I shouldn’t say she’s awful because I don’t personally know her, but to trash the writing staff of your show is one of those sins that you can’t really come back from as an actor. Though, in a way, it’s understandable that she had a big head. She was on a hit ABC show and had won an Emmy for her performance, so she was slaying it in that department. In 2007, she was in Knocked Up with Seth Rogen, which was a box office success as well as a critical darling. She followed that up with 2008’s 27 Dresses, which wasn’t as beloved by critics, but it was another box office success. So, she’s the young woman who dominating television and film. You're bound to get a big head, right?
But, then she insulted the writing staff and exited Grey’s Anatomy and basically died. Well, she’s not dead. Obviously. But, she’s been in nothing worthy of mention since. Her films have all flopped and her television series, State of Affairs and Doubt, only lasted one season. Lesson learned: Don’t cross Shonda Rhimes.
For the record though, Katherine Heigl’s Izzie Stevens wasn’t killed off the show, so there’s still hope for a rando return to spice things up.
2 Sarah Drew & Jesse Williams
We included Sarah Drew’s Dr. April Kepner earlier, but now we have both Sarah Drew’s Dr. April Kepner and Jesse Williams’ Dr. Jackson Avery. Here’s the thing, Sarah Drew is totally hot, but so is Jesse Williams. In fact, Jesse Williams is so hot that most dudes will admit he’s good looking. I mean, have you seen his eyes? His eyes could bring about world peace if he wanted it.
Jesse Williams joined Grey’s Anatomy as Dr. Jackson Avery with season six’s merger. If you haven’t noticed, A TON of characters joined with the merger. In 2012, while still on Grey’s Anatomy, Jesse Williams found the time to appear in Cabin in the Woods, which has become a beloved horror film, as it turns the genre on its head.
We’re just saying that – man or woman – you’d want Jesse Williams to get you healthy. Don’t deny it, guys.
1 Ellen Pompeo & Patrick Dempsey
Like the Sarah Drew and Jesse Williams inclusion, we have Ellen Pompeo AND Patrick Dempsey. Ellen Pompeo is obviously a queen who runs the whole show. At this point, it’s pretty much understood that almost every single other character can come and go, but Ellen Pompeo’s Meredith Grey is the one character who cannot leave or die. Patrick Dempsey’s Derek Shepherd, however, died in season eleven. Fans were hit so hard that they even vowed to no longer watch the show, but people are still obviously watching the show so there’s that.
While on the show for eleven seasons, Patrick Dempsey was an all-round stud. He has the hair of a god. I mean, honestly look at that hair! And that smile! And his romantic speeches! It’s all so good. Even if you’re a dude, you’ve have a crush on Patrick Dempsey. This is a guy who is an actual race car driver. Like, he’s a real race car driver. See? He's totally worthy of a man crush.
There you have it. Grey’s Anatomy is full of television’s sexiest doctors. If you’re not so into the emotional drama – even though it’s amazing – you could always just look at all of the pretty doctors being rockstars. The 14th season of this medical drama is set to premiere Fall 2017.
