There are many people in the entertainment industry that have a certain degree of talent, depending on their niche. Throughout the years, reality TV has become more popular than it once was and even beats out some prime-time TV shows. One thing about reality TV is that is doesn’t take much talent to be a star. In fact, many reality TV stars were the average Joe who simply auditioned and then became part of the cast.

12 Nicole ‘Snooki’ Polizzi

Snooki (aka Nicole Polizzi) is best known for starring in the Jersey Shore reality show. Jersey Shore documents eight housemates on how they’re spending their summer in Jersey Shore. Once the show aired in 2009, it was an instant hit and Snooki was the star. During her time on the show, Snooki liked to get drunk, party, and be a drama queen. In one episode, Snooki got into a jacuzzi wearing only a bra and thong--leading the guys to refer to her as a slutty Jersey girl. The series ended in 2012 and by the last two seasons, Snooki was earning $150,000 per episode. She went on to another MTV spin-off titled Snooki & Jwoww and then on to be a contestant on Dancing with the Stars. If that’s not enough, she joined the cast of The New Celebrity Apprentice hosted by Arnold Schwarzenegger which premiered January 2, 2017. When asked about her experience on the show and if she was nervous, Snooki said, “I was kind of just winging it. I was definitely a bit nervous, just because I’m not that competitive, and I knew that a lot of people on the show would be in it to win it. Obviously, I would love to win, but it was more of just a new experience to test myself and a new show I could do.”

11 Heidi Montag

10 Lauren Conrad

Prior to starring on The Hills reality show, Conrad was one of the cast members on the reality show Laguna Beach: The Real Orange County. Both shows have their similarities since her life along with the lives of her friends were being documented. After filming several seasons of The Hills, Conrad decided to exit the show to seek after other potential career opportunities. Despite becoming extremely popular from being a reality TV star, she was faced with criticism from Thomas Rogers at Salon. He said she is “one of the dullest major characters in reality television history.” Most of the popularity Conrad gained from The Hills could mostly likely be due to the conflict she had with Heidi Montag.

Here we go. As with Kylie Jenner, you hear the name Kim Kardashian almost every day. If she sneezes, everyone knows about it. She started gaining some sort of media attention as Paris Hilton’s stylist and friend. She was pretty much in Hilton’s shadow until the sex tape with her and Ray J surfaced publicly. Not only did she gain massive media attention, but so did her family. Soon after the leak of the sex tape, the reality TV series Keeping Up with the Kardashians was launched on E!. Throughout the years, Ray J has not hesitated in taking credit for making her famous. However, Paris Hilton is also taking credit for catapulting Kardashian’s career. In 2016, Hilton liked an Instagram meme created by one of her fans. The meme took shots at Kanye West’s music video for “Famous” and portrayed an image that Hilton was the one who thrusted Kardashian into the spotlight. The image showed a photoshopped Hilton in bed with Kardashian and Kanye. The caption above the photo read, “I made this b**** famous.”
