One of the hardest but most rewarding jobs you may ever undertake in your life is being a parent. You're definitely going to make mistakes, but perhaps you're relieved that you aren't a celebrity. As the 15 celebrities on our list will prove, anytime you admit or are caught being an awful parent, the world is going to remember it.
It'll be clear that some of these celebrities instantly regretted their decisions, in fact, Alec Baldwin has come out and said he became suicidal following the disgusting voicemail he left for his daughter got leaked. That doesn't unring the bell though, and for some of the celebrities on our list, some of their outrageous behavior is certainly going to lead to no shortage of "fun" conversations with their children growing up.
After all, can you imagine the teasing that Farrah Abraham's child may undergo? There's even one Indian couple on our list who sparked controversy after naming their child after a Mongolian invader. Then there are also cases like the shocking amount of days that Tom Cruise went without seeing Suri or how Eddie Murphy treated Mel B and you may be shocked at their "parenting" skills.
The only thing all these 15 celebrities have in common? All 15 have had at least one incident in which the public has deemed them to be a potentially awful parent.
15 Mila Kunis Forgot To Buckle Baby In
We need to give Mila Kunis some credit for the next story because if she didn't open up about it in an interview with Babble, there's no way that anyone would have known about it.
Kunis, however, made a potentially fatal parenting error when she put her daughter in the car for a 2-hour road trip, only to realize after she had started driving that she didn't buckle her daughter in,
"She was being really quiet, and I was like, 'Oh, let me look in the rearview mirror to make sure everything's okay. And I look, and she's happy as can be, but just not nearly strapped in."
We're sure had that situation ended poorly, the accusations of Kunis being a terrible mother would have never gone away.
14 Kris Jenner Pushed Kim Into Posing For Hef
When it comes to making tough decisions in your life, you can always hope that your parents are going to be looking out for your best interest. Yet when Kim Kardashian opened up about her regrets to bare it all for Hugh Hefner, it was Caitlyn who she singled out as being the driving factor
“I’m sorry I did Playboy. I was uncomfortable. [Caitlyn said] 'they might never ask you again. Our show isn’t on the air yet. Do it and you’ll have these beautiful pictures to look at when you’re my age,'" said Kim when discussing the issue with Access Hollywood.
One thing is clear, Kim has had no shortage of moments in her life where she's taken beautiful photos she'll be able to look at when she's older.
13 Hasselhoff Gets Filmed Drunk By 16-Year-Old Daughter
David Hasselhoff has had several great moments in his career, but his lowlight came away from the big screen and instead on the screen of her daughter's phone after she videotaped him hammered on the floor as he attempts to eat cheeseburgers.
Hasselhoff's now ex-wife, was furious at the tape and the role that her 16-year-old daughter was being forced to play,
"I don't want my daughter taping him and involving herself just so he can see himself intoxicated. She is not the parent, and I don't want her playing the parental role, it's very upsetting. This is an obvious cry for help."
We're sure Hasselhoff worked hard to get his body back into beach shape for his upcoming cameo in the Baywatch movie. While there is no telling how successful the upcoming spinoff will be, Hasselhoff appeared in over 200 episodes of the classic television show and we're sure his appearance will be one of the highlights of the movie.
12 Tom Cruise Didn't See Suri For 1,000 Days
Tom Cruise is an outstanding actor and there are countless reports of how dedicated he is to his roles. Too bad one of his roles isn't being an outstanding parent to his daughter Suri.
It was reported back in 2016 that it had been over 1,000 days since he had last interacted with Suri who lives with his ex-wife, Katie Holmes. It was talked about again when it was reported later in the year that Cruise had spent 5 whole days with her (oh wow!), so at least he's trying to be a better father.
There's no telling how much of that time was spent discussing Scientology though!
Then in 2017, it was discussed in the media how Tom was wanting to re-connect more after going years without communicating which reaffirms that he had gone so long without seeing her. You can imagine that first day after such a long break would have been pretty awkward, "Hey Suri! Happy Birthday...Christmas...You know, all that good stuff from the past 1,000 days."
11 Michael Jackson Held Baby Out The Window
Michael Jackson may have just wanted the world to get a better look at his son, Prince Michael the 2nd back in 2002 when he held him outside the window, but it definitely wasn't a good look for the musical legend.
People were immediately concerned for the child's safety as a drop by Michael would have proved to be fatal for the 9-month-old.
Jackson spoke out on the incident, saying,
"I offer no excuses for what happened. I got caught up in the excitement of the moment. I would never intentionally endanger the lives of my children."
We're sure fans of Jackson love how dedicated he was to trying to make sure they felt connected to him and his family, but we're glad that Jackson clearly understood that what he did wasn't acceptable.
10 Alicia Silverstone Says Babies Don't Need Diapers And Chews Up Food Before Baby Eats
Alicia Silverstone may be best known for her role in the terrible Batman Forever movie, but she has also tried to make a name for herself as an author including releasing a self-help book The Kind Mama: A Simple Guide To Supercharged Fertility, a Radiant Pregnancy, a Sweeter Birth and a Healthier, More Beautiful Beginning (wordy much?).
The book, however, sparked controversy over some of Silverstone's parenting decisions, including her writing that she isn't a fan of using diapers,
"Infants who are left in their diapers all day get out of tune with their bodies ... because they get used to walking around in a toilet, by the time you want to take that diaper away, it can be pretty difficult for a small child to relearn how to pay attention to this need and do something about it. So step away from the Pampers."
Silverstone also was at the center of controversy back in 2012 when she revealed that she would chewing up food, prior to feeding it to her son.
9 Octomom Had Children She Couldn't Support
There are several areas of which we could talk about Natalie Suleman that have caused some controversy. How about the fact that even though she already had 6 older children that she failed to make public knowledge, before then electing to get pregnant with another 8 in 2008.
Dubbed "Octomom" by the tabloids, Suleman later admitted that she was on welfare and in 2012 declared bankruptcy.
In terms of controversy, you also have the fact that she starred in a solo adult sex tape, as well as the fact that she's worked in a gentleman's club.
Then you also have the time she was caught saying, "I hate babies, they disgust me... Obviously, I love them—but I absolutely wish I had not had them," and you can understand there are several less than stellar parenting moments.
8 Eddie Murphy Denied Paternity Of Baby With Mel B
Eddie Murphy may be a hilarious actor, but there's nothing funny about denying that you're the father of a child. Eddie Murphy engaged in a brief relationship with Melanie Brown, better known as "Scary Spice" during which she got pregnant.
Murphy was adamant that it was not his child though, including saying in an interview,
“I don’t know whose child that is until it comes out and has a blood test.”
Murphy should be used to the "I'm pregnant" conversation, considering he has nine kids. It was also reported that he still wanted nothing to do with Mel and the baby after the results, but a few years later reports started circulating that at least he was starting to make an effort.
7 Madonna Kept Her Kids Away From Magazines, Newspapers, And TV
Now when it comes to the next statement made by Madonna, this really just comes down to personal preference. If you're a fan of letting your children read and be informed about the news, you may be less enthused with Madonna's strict policy regarding sources of information in her household,
"I was raised without [television]. I didn't miss anything. TV is poison. No one even talks about it around here. We have televisions, but they're not hooked up to anything but movies. We don't have magazines or newspapers in the house, either."
C'mon Madonna, we understand too much of television (just like too much of anything) isn't going to be the best, but banning newspapers too? Makes you wonder if she lays the law down with the internet as well.
6 Farrah Abraham's Frequent Lapses In Judgment
When you consider Farrah Abraham made a name for herself because she appeared on Teen Mom, it makes it all the raunchy behavior she gets herself in all the sadder. One of the most damaging being the multiple sex tapes that she has been in, including one called Farrah 2: Backdoor and More.
Abraham has come out and said that she regrets her time in the "other" industry, but they're still going to be some pretty difficult conversations to have with her daughter one day! It has also been reported that Abraham has taken to the pole at a gentleman's club to help pay the bills.
We're sure she is going to get plenty used to the phrase "do as I say, not as I do" to her daughter as she gets older.
5 Steven Tyler Didn't Admit To Being Liv's Father Until She Was 10
Steven Tyler is an outstanding rocker, but that doesn't mean he was an outstanding dad to Liv Tyler. When Liv was growing up, she was led to believe that she was the child of Todd Rundgren.
However, by the time she was 10 years old, she started to clue in after Steven would stop by their house periodically and finally had the truth confirmed.
The fact that Steven stopped by for over a decade and never spoke up, and allowed Liv to think that her father was someone else is definitely not the best example of parenting. Liv Tyler's mother, Bebe Buell, is also a former Playmate and it seems pretty clear that she was able to inherit her good looks.
4 Jon From Kate Plus 8 Says Kids Have Developmental Problems
You can imagine that life would have been incredibly stressful for Kate Gosselin and Jon Gosselin who came to fame after their family of 8 (sextuplets and twins) became a hit reality TV show.
Their marriage didn't last however and in 2009, they announced their divorce and the show went from Jon & Kate Plus 8 to Kate Plus 8. The controversy comes not from the moments on reality television, but in the tabloids when Jon elected to rip into his children for their poor development saying,
"I saw my kids not growing up normally... Developmentally, they have problems with their peers ... with wants and needs, and manners and morals and what's right and what's wrong."
Kate, along with most of the world blasted into Jon for publicly insulting his children saying in an interview,
"These opinions are, in reality, value judgments made about our children and they are based on his limited visits (albeit mutually agreed upon) with our children."
3 Baldwin Caught Yelling At Daughter
Just because Alec Baldwin had an awful moment, doesn't mean that he's an awful parent. At least that's what he hopes people will believe after his reputation took a major hit back in 2007 when a tape was sold to TMZ where he was openly insulting his daughter Ireland, who at the time was 11.
Among the terrible things said were, "You are a rude, thoughtless little pig. You don't have the brains or the decency as a human being. I don't give a damn that you're 12 years old, or 11 years old, or that you're a child, or that your mother is a thoughtless pain in the ass who doesn't care about what you do as far as I'm concerned."
Baldwin admitted in 2009 that the backlash from the incident caused him to consider suicide.
2 Britney Spears Drives With Baby On Lap
Britney Spears is no stranger to being at the center of controversy, but you may agree that anything that involves her children is going to especially raise some alarm bells with people.
It was back in 2006 when Spears decision to escape the paparazzi led to her driving away with her 4-month-old son on her lap, an incident that was obviously caught on cameras by the very same reporters she was trying to avoid
“I was terrified that this time the physically aggressive paparazzi would put both me and my baby in danger. I instinctively took measures to get my baby and me out of harm’s way, but the paparazzi continued to stalk us. I love my child and would do anything to protect him," said Spears when talking about the incident.
1 Saif Ali Khan And Kareena Kapoor Name Child After Mongolian Invader
In Bollywood, Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor are two of the names to know; so understandably when they gave birth to a son back in 2016 there was bound to be headlines about it.
The only problem with that? They named their child Taimur; which instantly creates a connection in many Indians eyes to Taimur the Lame, who was a Mongol invader who conquered and slaughtered thousands of Indians.
People attacked the couple on social media, including one commenter comparing the name to calling someone Hitler. You can hope that the child will be able to avoid bullying as a result of his name, but his parents definitely aren't doing him any favors.
