Riverdale has certainly turned it up a notch for season two and to say that it’s packed with action would be the understatement of the year. The show is certainly filled with many twists and turns and a whole lot of drama. Sad enough, there seems to be just as much drama behind the scenes as there is on the show. We’re talking about depression, accidents on set, and even fat-shaming.

15 KJ Apa Broke His Hand For Real

A broken hand is certainly a serious injury and probably not an uncommon one on set. The hottie that plays Archie on Riverdale is a real stickler for his craft, even if that means even breaking his hand to get the right shot. During the season finale, Archie was smashing the ice trying to save Cheryl from drowning when she dove into the frozen lake trying to kill herself. The scene required him to have to smash his hand into the ice to save her, so it’s no big surprise that his hand was broken. We saw the blood, we all just assumed it was fake. Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa said in an interview, “In a weird way, and I told this to KJ, the second we knew that Archie was going to be punching through ice, I literally said, ‘now guys, KJ is such a committed actor, he’s so method, he’s so in this character and passionate, you have to make sure he doesn’t hurt this hand.’”

14 Lili Reinhart’s Struggle With Depression

Lili Reinhart is a huge advocate of mental health and often talks about it on social media.  She's posted about depression and how it’s okay to speak out about what you are going through. There’s a reason behind her advocacy and it’s that she's struggled with depression herself. Even her character, Betty, seems on the verge of a meltdown on occasion. We’ve seen her on the verge of exploding multiple times. She is very candid about her experiences with depression because she wants people to know that there is nothing wrong with talking about important issues like your mental health. Her character is a perfectionist, and for a teenager, that can lead to some serious problems. It’s not easy living up to the expectations of our parents and even teachers at school. We think it’s great that she's speaking out for people everywhere.

13 Cole Sprouse Is A Fighter

Cole Sprouse has always been a mysterious and brooding person. Even his character, Jughead, has a lot of darkness in him. During filming in Vancouver, the cast was outdoors while shooting for a particular scene. A street performer decided to set up shop and her music was so loud that she was interrupting the filming. Cole Sprouse approached the woman named Babe Coal and politely asked her to stop playing for an hour just until they finished the scene. She demanded that he compensate her for her time if he wanted her to stop. Well, that didn’t make him very happy at all. He’s known to be an outspoken person on and off camera. He grew frustrated with the woman and called out to the crowd. "Just in case you guys don’t know how this works. This is one of the secrets of film production. We give the city a location and then some scam artists come out and start playing and you see when I ask her to stop, she started asking for compensation.”

12 Fans Stalk The Cast

Just like any film location, as soon as fans find out where the actors are filming, they show up like moths to a flame. Riverdale is currently being filmed in a stunning small town around Vancouver, British Columbia. Judging by what we've seen on the show so far, it’s a stunning area with a somewhat creepy vibe to it. After all, murders are occurring there on the regular. The series has definitely become quite popular and that means plenty of fans. While they have been on location in Vancouver, fans have been trying to figure out where the cast hangs out when they aren’t working, which is borderline stalking. They have found them at coffee hangouts and even the gym.

11 Vanessa Morgan Gets Death Threats

We couldn’t even imagine why anyone in the cast would start getting death threats. Vanessa Morgan is a new character for season two and she plays Toni Topaz, a bi-sexual character who is a member of the Serpents. They threw the character in to cause some kind of love triangle between Jughead and Betty. Of course, a guy just can’t be satisfied with the stunning blonde he’s dating (insert sarcasm). That’s what has fans outraged at Morgan; they are issuing death threats because she is getting in the way of the love between Jughead and Betty. Morgan revealed in an interview, “She’s a Southside Serpent, a gang member, and Jughead’s first friend,” Morgan said about her character, Toni. “I might stir up the pot a bit with the Bughead relationship. There might be a little love triangle. I’ve already had some death threats. But the thing is, it’s half death threats because they don’t want that [actually] happening, and there’s half that’s just all love.”

10 KJ Apa Plays Guitar In Real Life

No wonder he’s so good at it in the show; KJ Apa is a musician in real life just like his character on Riverdale. Apa is a passionate person both on and off screen, and it’s certainly been a pleasure to see him really get into his music, much like Archie. In real life, Apa has been playing guitar for a long time. He obviously has a passion for music, so it must have been a blast to be able to do that not only in real life but to explore it all with his character onset as well.

9 KJ Apa Likes A Fat-Shaming Comment

KJ Apa may have made a big no-no while online one day. The actor is from New Zealand and you might be surprised to know that he even has an accent that he hides. While playing Archie on Riverdale, Apa has certainly made a few social faux pas that gave him some much-unneeded attention. Unfortunately, making bad decisions on the show has leaked into his real life. While on Instagram, Apa made the mistake of liking a fat-shaming comment online and the wolves descended. Sorry Apa, we just don’t put up with things like that, especially from celebrities who should really know better by now. The fat-shaming comment on Instagram that Apa liked read, “Making fun of fat people is the only thing that’s gonna stop those useless bags of… dying a fat early death.” Ouch! Fans were very disappointed by his actions. He also got some flak for Snapchatting an article that read, “15 Reasons A Beer Is Better Than A Woman.” A Twitter fan lashed back saying, “Fat shaming and treating women like objects? You’re supposed to be a role model for teenagers. Well done, @kj_apa.”

8 Lili Reinhart Is Pretty Sassy

KJ Apa isn’t the only one that was associated with a fat-shaming comment, but when it came to Lili Reinhart, she was the victim of one. She held her own, however, and truly showed us that she has a sassy side to her. One catty fan posted on Twitter about a Google search, as if Reinhart has anything to do with how Google presents her. The user wrote, “On Google when you type Lili Reinhart, ‘Lili Reinhart body’ is one of the main searches. Please start being healthy. I love you but I also can’t stand to see you looking so unhealthy and be happy with it. It’ll outshine your talent.” Reinhart was quick to respond to the comment and we have to say, she knocked it right out of the park, “Thank you so much for being concerned about my weight, I’ll respond later after I finish my double cheeseburger.”

7 Some Stars Wanted Other Roles

When we get into a new show, we naturally bond with the actors and the characters that they play. Then we find out that they had auditioned for other roles and we can’t wrap our heads around it. Mainly because we just can’t picture them being someone else. When we found out that Jennifer Aniston really auditioned for the role of Monica Gellar, we were stunned. Could you imagine if she got the role? She played the perfect Rachel Green and that’s just how we see her. Originally, Cole Sprouse auditioned to play Archie and Madelaine Petsch (Cheryl Blossom) wanted to be Betty. Petsch clearly caught the eye of the director, but he had bigger plans for her. “You’re obviously not auditioning for Betty; it’s for another part that I can’t tell you about yet. You look exactly like I imagine her to look, and you’ve got the presence.”

6 Madelaine Petsch Was Bullied

Bullying has been going on since the dawn of time and Madelaine Petsch is no stranger to it, unfortunately. She plays the character of Cheryl Blossom, an ice queen who oozes confidence. At times, she can even appear to be the bully at Riverdale High. As a child, however, Petsch and her brother dealt with bullying. Being natural gingers they both got picked on a lot for simply the color of their hair. Have you not heard of "Kick a Ginger Day?" Apparently, it’s a thing. It was a hard time for her family and being on the show and receiving such praise from her fans has helped the beautiful redhead to move on from her past. We are so looking forward to what’s in store for us from the Blossom family this season; it seems Cheryl has all the control these days.

5 Everyone Wants KJ Apa

When it comes down to onset crushes, it seems that KJ Apa has a lot of adoring fans on and off screen. Well, how can you blame them? It’s not just fans that have a crush on Apa— even his costars do! Glamour interviewed Madelaine Petsch and she admitted that Apa was her onset crush. “K.J. [Apa, who plays Archie]. Totally K.J.!” He’s cute, a nice guy in real life (we'll try to forget those fat-shaming comments), and he has real life abs. It’s not surprising at all that his cast members are getting hot under the collar when he’s around. There are actually quite a few cuties on the set of Riverdale; we have to admit. We are looking forward to seeing how Archie goes darker this season as he tries to hunt down a killer.

4 Camila Mendes Wasn’t Looking “Latina Enough”

Can’t the girl just catch a break? The character of Veronica is such a great one and there is a reason why she is a fan favorite. She basically oozes Blair Waldorf from Gossip Girl and we love every minute of it. She didn’t exactly have an easy time of it in the beginning, however, because directors weren't exactly willing to cast her. Even when it came to getting cast for Riverdale, she wasn’t the first choice because they didn’t think she looked “Latina enough” for the part. That’s sort of an insult, right? During an interview for Teen Vogue, she stated how she had to develop a thick skin because the industry can be tough at times. You might be surprised to hear that both KJ Apa and Lili Reinhart were both originally turned down for their roles. What were the casting directors thinking?

3 Cole Originally Didn’t Want Riverdale

We couldn’t imagine anyone else playing the role of Jughead than Cole Sprouse. But originally, he wasn’t that impressed with the script of Riverdale. It may be the fact that the casting directors wanted him for the role of Archie. Sorry, we just can’t picture him as a redhead. Sprouse has been acting since he was a kid, so he’s the most famous out of everyone in the series. It’s pretty common for directors to want the lead character to be a famous actor, but in this case, Sprouse wasn’t interested. Jughead is known to be a very weird character and Sprouse just gravitated toward that character over all the others. From that point, KJ Apa was cast to lay Archie, and we think Sprouse is much more suited for Jughead.

2 13 Reasons Why Got In The Way

You might recognize the guy that played Reggie in season one of Riverdale, Ross Butler. He’s also one of the main actors of 13 Reasons Why. Ross Butler was slated to play Reggie, Archie’s nemesis in the comics, though he only had a few scenes in the first season. He ended up having to leave the cast of Riverdale because of scheduling conflicts with 13 Reasons Why in which he plays a much bigger role. In Riverdale, they had planned for Reggie to have a bigger role in season two, but with the second season of 13 Reasons Why being filmed, it is impossible for Butler to return. Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa stated, “[Next season], we want more Reggie on our show — he’s Archie’s rival — and because Ross is unavailable to come back to Riverdale, we’re looking for a new Reggie. Those are big shoes to fill, but we’re confident we can find an actor who is as funny and sexy as Ross. And of course, we all wish Ross the best.”

1 Lili Reinhart’s Sexual Assault

With the whole Harry Weinstein scandal,  many other celebrities have come forth about their own experience. It's great that we have finally come to a time when people feel safe enough to talk about it. Lili Reinhart, as young as she is, has dealt with sexual assault as well. “All that matters is that he tried to force himself on me when we were on a date.” Reinhart shared. “I had to stop him and say ‘No, I don’t want that,’ and ‘I can’t do that.’ I physically walked away from the situation before it could get any worse. I remember feeling like this was a scene right out of a horror movie.” Like many women, and even some men, she kept quiet about what happened to her because she felt powerless. That, unfortunately, is a common trend in society and it’s about time that people are able to come out and speak about what happened to them. It’s really the only way to make it stop.
