Before American Horror Story, Evan Peters was an almost unknown actor, but his role as Tate Langdon, a teenage sociopath, in AHS: Murder House quickly elevated him to stardom. He soon became a firm favorite among fans, especially with the ladies, even though the character he first portrayed in the series was less than wholesome (i.e rapist, killer, school shooter). But women love a bad boy, even when he is a ghost and they soon realized that his character was good at heart, but just misunderstood and epically bad at making decisions.

The 29-year-old from St. Louis, Missouri moved with his family to Los Angeles when he was 15 to pursue a career in acting and appeared in numerous film and TV roles before his breakthrough performance in AHS in 2011. The talented young actor seems destined to have a very rewarding Hollywood career if his growing popularity over the past few years is anything to go by.

But there is more to Evan Peters than just American Horror Story, he’s quite a character and he has a few amusing stories as well. We’ve collected some of these stories and a few other tidbits, so here are 15 things you probably didn’t know about Evan.

15. He Once Flashed His Co-Stars

On the first day of filming (yes the first day, poor man) American Horror Story: Asylum, Evan managed to accidentally flash his “package” in front of co-stars Jessica Lange and Sarah Paulson. Girls I’ll give you a second to regain your composure.

It happened during a scene where Peters is wearing a hospital gown and during the take, he gets bent over a table. During an interview in 2012, he confessed that he was supposed to wear a sock over his manhood, but initially he didn’t put it on because he reasoned that the shot was from behind and his front wouldn’t be visible. But when he bent over, well, his fellow actors got quite a surprise. Obviously, Evan was deeply embarrassed but the three managed to laugh it off.

14. He Used To Knit

During an interview with Cosmopolitan, Peters admitted that he tried knitting as a hobby and did it for a while. This seems to be quite a common hobby for actors (Ryan Gosling, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Julia Roberts are among the many celebs who have confessed to have developed a liking for knitting) but it’s hard to imagine Evan brandishing knitting needles and making scarves.

He went on to say that his other hobbies include surfing the web, listening to music, and socializing, especially with the interesting people he gets to meet in his line of work. He knows that there is a lot he can learn from them. He also likes to gain knowledge by reading, although he says he’s a slow reader. It’s something he does want to work on though, as he has dreams of one day writing and directing.

13. He’s Appeared in Every Season of AHS

American Horror Story is an anthology series where every season is a self-contained miniseries with a different theme. The show often reuses the same actors who play different roles each time. But there are only two actors who have appeared in every season of American Horror Story thus far and they are Sarah Paulson and Evan Peters.

Peters played Tate Langdon, the ghost of a high school shooter, in the first season, then Kit Walker in AHS:Asylum, a mental patient who is visited by aliens, and Kyle Spencer in Coven, an unfortunate teen who gets put back together by young witches... Frankenstein style! He returned in American Horror Story: Freak Show as Jimmy Darling, a sideshow freak/lady's man, and James Patrick March in Hotel playing the role of a hotel owner with a serious lust for blood. In the most recent installment, AHS:Roanoke, he’s played two roles so far. That of Edward Mott, the original owner of the Roanoke House, and Rory Monahan, the actor who “plays” Edward Mott in a dramatic recreation entitled My Roanoke Nightmare.

12. His Next Movie

Evan Peters has a very busy schedule as you can imagine and nowadays he needs to choose his projects carefully. In April 2016, Peters and Al Pacino were spotted together in sunny South Africa and everyone immediately wanted to know what they were working on.

The answer is a movie called Where the White Man Runs Away which is currently in post-production. The movie is based on Jay Bahadur’s memoirs, a freelance journalist who bravely spent time in Somalia reporting on the piracy taking place off the country's coastline.

The film is being described as a comedy (really?) slash drama and while it’s unclear who Evan will play, we can tell you that the movie will also include Melanie Griffith and Barkhad Abdi (who you’ll remember from Captain Phillips (2013), as well as a few local South African actors. The film is scheduled for release in 2017.

11. His Favorite Role Of The Series

When Evan was asked about which character he has enjoyed playing the most, he replied that it was his character in the first season of American Horror Story.

In AHS: Murder House, Evan Peters plays Tate Langdon, the disturbed son of Constance Langdon, who lives next door to the murder house (but once lived in it.) He’s actually a ghost having been shot to death by members of a S.W.A.T team in his bedroom after going on a shooting rampage at his high school.

Fans were crazy about him in the role– particularly the shots of him wearing full spooky makeup and all-black clothing. His character is complex– a murderous teen who is actually very sensitive and still trying to make sense of life, even after death.

10. He Auditioned For The Hunger Games

In an interview with Vulture.com, Evan disclosed that he had auditioned for the role of Peeta in The Hunger Games. He admitted to being extremely nervous as he had to do a scene with Jennifer Lawrence, who he thinks is an amazingly talented actress and who he has also described as a “fox”. Although he didn’t get the part (as we know it went to Joshua Ryan Hutcherson instead) he was still excited about the movie, adding that he enjoyed the book series very much.

We might be more than a little biased, but as much as we enjoyed Joshua Hutcherson and The Hunger Games, we think Evan would have made an even better, more kick ass Peeta. But then again, not getting the role freed him up for American Horror Story, and what would the series be without him?

8. Ink For Mama

Evan has two tattoos, but you won’t easily see them because they get covered up with makeup when he works. There’s a funny little story behind the tattoo on his left bicep that says “Mom”. When he asked his mother if he could get a tattoo, she replied saying he could, but the tattoo had to say “Mom” so that’s what he did! How sweet is that?

The other tattoo is on the back of this right hand and it’s a small red 'thumbs up' symbol. He said that he regrets this tattoo a little because it always needs to be concealed for filming and he advises people to think carefully before getting tattoos. He’s only got these two tattoos, but may get more in the future. He also has both his ears pierced.

8. He’d Love More Comedic Roles

Evan Peters describes himself as a goofy kind of guy who doesn’t take anything too seriously and he’d love to show this side of himself a little more in his acting. It might be a little hard to believe, especially when we’re used to seeing him in serious dramatic roles like in AHS, but he said that he wasn’t even a horror fan before American Horror Story. The show changed the way that he watches horror too– he says that now he’s always wondering “How did they do that?”

We did get a chance to see him in a lighter role when he played in the black comedy superhero film Kick-Ass where he played a supporting role, but Evan would love the opportunity to prove himself in movies and hopefully comedy. He has been quoted as saying “I would love to do comedy. I think I'm funny and that comedy is my strong suit, at least in real life.”

7. His Initiation Into American Horror Story

Ryan Murphy (co-creator of AHS) is known for his incredible creativity and sometimes strange ideas that translate really well into the horror theme. While it’s true that the series pushed the boundaries, it’s nothing compared to what it’s like to actually work on the set.

Remember before Evan worked on AHS: Murder House, he had worked in film and television but never in the horror genre and never with an oddball like Murphy. And there was no gradual transition or easing into it either!

During one of his first few days on set, Murphy instructed Evan to stand in a corner and requested that blood be poured all over him saying, "Ok, I want to have blood poured all over Evan right now, we’re going to put him in the corner and turn the camera on and it’s going to be great." Okay then…

6. He Doesn’t See Himself As A Sex Symbol

It’s no secret that Evan is a heartthrob– fans have fallen in love with his puppy dog eyes, golden curls, and sculpted body. In American Horror Story he always plays a romantic role of some kind as well, even though some of those characters did not always have good intentions. I mean, who doesn’t like a bad boy?

But Evan doesn’t see himself as a heartthrob and describes himself as being quite shy. When he was asked if he felt threatened by handsome new co-star Max Greenfield in AHS Hotel he responded, “"I just don't feel that. It doesn't register with me. So no, I don't feel threatened by that in any way. I'm just excited to have them on the show. It's going to be awesome." Aww, handsome and modest!

5. Ladies He’s Been Linked To

Although he is currently engaged to AHS: Coven co-star Emma Roberts he’s also dated quite a few feisty ladies since he shot to fame.

Evan and Pixie Geldof (daughter of Paula Yates) shocked onlookers when they openly snogged each other at Coachella and dated for about a year. He was later linked to another AHS co-star, Alex Breckenridge, who you’ll remember as the young maid in AHS:Murder House. Until he met Emma Roberts, he was spending a lot of time with Alexia Quinn. The two met on the Living at Home set and apparently hit it off.

The relationship between Evan and Emma hit rocky turf, with Emma actually being arrested for domestic assault only a few months after they started dating. But the two seem to have worked it out (so sorry girls– sadly, he’s off the market for now).

4. The Truth About The Rubber Man Outfit

In season one of AHS, Evan was required to wear an S&M-style Rubber Man suit for a few (raunchy but disturbing) scenes. You may be wondering what goes into getting a suit like that on and we’re here to tell you. Brace yourself.

Because the material was so tight, Evan needed to make use of a lubricant to slip into the costume and yes, he’s completely naked underneath. Peters described the lengthy process of getting into the rubber suit during an interview in 2011 saying that he needed to use a lot of lubricant to slip into the pants portion of the suit and then the wardrobe assistant would come and help him into the rest. Oh and also– he split a bunch of these latex suits while performing stunts.

3. He Started His Career With Commercials

His breakout performance came in 2011 when he played emo teenager Tate Langdon in the first season of American Horror Story, but he started his acting career as many young actors do– with television commercials. He appeared in advertisements for Kellogg’s, Papa John’s Pizza, Moviefone, Sony Playstation, Progressive Insurance, and Sour Patch Kids.

His first film role was that of a teen struggling with difficult circumstances in Clipping Adam (2002), which earned him the award for Best Breakthrough Performance at the Phoenix Film Festival. Other movies he acted in before American Horror Story include An American Crime (2007), Never Back Down (2008), Gardens of the Night (2008), and Kick-Ass (2010). More recently he’s appeared as Peter Maximoff/Quicksilver in X-Men: Days of Future Past (2014) and X-Men: Apocalypse (2016).

2. He’s A Zombie Fan

It may be strange to imagine, but Evan Peters says he’s a big fan of The Walking Dead, although he doesn’t get as much time to watch as he would like and is way behind with the long-running post-apocalyptic drama series.

Peters says that he likes relaxing with The Walking Dead, but he’s very careful about what kind of other movies and TV he watches while he is working. He tries to be selective and only choose content that is integrated into his current project. Kinda makes you wonder what sort of stuff he’s been watching while working on American Horror Story. And whether girlfriend Emma Roberts enjoys zombies as much as he does?

1. He's A Former Disney Actor

As well as commercials, series, and movies, Evans also starred on a few sitcoms, including Disney Channel's Phil of the Future which was his first TV project. The science fiction sitcom was about a family from the future who gets trapped in the 21st century after their time machine malfunctions. It ran for two seasons from 2004 until 2006.

Evan played a supporting role as Seth Wosmer– a nerdy school friend of the main character Philip Diffy (played by Ricky Ullman) for five episodes during the first season but did not appear in the second season. After this, he went on to play in Invasion, a science fiction series for ABC that sadly only ran for one season because of poor ratings.
