The date was August 6, 2017, when the world stopped. There was no warning. People were mulling about their days. None of us were prepared for the bombshell that was about to be dropped on us. This was the day that Anna Faris and Chris Pratt announced that they were separating. For eight years, Faris and Pratt were one of Hollywood's sweetest marriages, often appearing together at events looking completely in love. But it was all a lie. Hollywood love usually is. We thought that this time it was different. Maybe it was. But like 99% of Hollywood love, it faded. To be honest, no one really knows why. All we got was a text message that read:
“We are sad to announce we are legally separating. We tried hard for a long time, and we’re really disappointed. Our son has two parents who love him very much and for his sake, we want to keep this situation as private as possible moving forward,” Anna wrote on Instagram. “We still love each other and we will always cherish our time together.”
Since that day, we've had plenty of time to reflect. There have been numerous rumors about why this Hollywood super couple broke up and some discussion about what went down behind the scenes. We can't be sure, but that doesn't matter. People want to hear the maybes, the possiblys, and the probably nots but you never knows. So, in that spirit, we decided to take a look at some of the finer details of the breakup, maybe even highlighting a few possible explanations for the split. Here are 15 Things Anna Faris And Chris Pratt Only Want Their Lawyers To Know About Their Divorce.
15 Chris' Travels
Now, we may not ever find out the finer details behind the split, but there have been whispers that one of the biggest reasons was the physical distance between the two. Over the last few years especially, this distance began causing a rift between Pratt and Faris. On a few different occasions, Faris noted that Pratt's exploding career has been pulling him in different directions. TMZ reported that
Faris was looking to make LA a home base for the couple, but Pratt's career wouldn't allow him to stay put in one place very long.
This is a detail only their lawyer would know for sure, but to the public, Faris had said, "This is who I am, I hope that you know, we, you know, can survive the distance." Maybe this was just hopeful thinking and it turned out that they couldn't.
14 Single Mother
After the news dropped about the breakup, there were a couple of quotes that many of us looked back on and thought about retrospectively. Faris, when speaking about her insecurities, hinted that she almost felt like a single mother because of how often Pratt was gone. Specifically, she said,
"I take pride in how great my relationship is with Chris. But having said that, of course, in this crazy world where he’s off doing movies and I’m in L.A. raising our child, of course, I’m going to feel vulnerable, like any normal human would."
This quote in combination with the rumors that Faris and Pratt had conflicting parenting styles makes us think there's something to it.
13 Anna's Independence
Faris' podcast, Unqualified, has provided fans with a lot of inside information as to who the actress is and what her thoughts are on the breakup. Not long after the split was made public, Faris said on the podcast that, "Life is too short to be in relationships where you feel this isn’t fully right or somebody doesn’t have your back, or somebody doesn’t fully value you… Don’t be afraid to feel your independence if things aren’t right… I made that mistake, I think, a little bit, like ‘I’m checking my relationship off the list'… If that would be the final piece of advice I could give you, that would be, 'Know your worth, know your independence.'"
This makes it clear that Faris felt her own independence was being sacrificed.
While we respect this, we have to also wonder if this isn't a mid-life crisis of sorts. Maybe only their lawyer knows the truth.
12 More Time With Friends
There is a good chance that Faris' very honest and open discussion on her podcast and in her book led to things being taken out of context, but we have to consider the possibility that Faris felt that she gave up too much of her personal life to be part of a couple because of some of things she said. On her podcast, after speaking about taking a claim on her independence, Faris said to a caller,
"There are so many people out there, there's so much life experience, I hope you get to live it all and experience a whole lot of people."
She also wrote in her book that she "was once told that I didn't need a tight group of girlfriends because Chris should be my best friend. But I never bought that. The idea of your mate being your best friend — it's overhyped." To us, this reeks of Faris regretting being tied down to the home and parenting, while Pratt is off living his glamorous life.
11 With Jennifer Lawrence
Faris admitted that despite being prepared for the media frenzy that surrounded her husband and his Passengers co-star, Jennifer Lawrence, she still felt a bit jealous. According to Faris, “Before they met in person, my publicist, out of the blue, pulled me aside.
‘Anna, listen there are going to be paparazzi all over them,’ she said. There are going to be shots of them laughing together on their way to set. There are going to be stories circulating, and you have to brace yourself for this.’”
So Faris did brace herself, but she claims it still got to her, saying, "The coverage, even though it was false rumors, was making me feel insecure." Now, only their lawyer will know if anything did happen between Pratt and Lawrence, but Faris knows firsthand that stuff like this can happen on a movie set.
10 Scared Of The Past Repeating Itself
It makes sense that Faris would be a bit jealous of her husband and his co-stars. After all, Faris met both of her husbands on the set of a film. First, there was Ben Indra, who Faris met on the set of Lovers Lane. They eventually got married and had some fun for a few years. But then, Faris met Pratt on the set of Take Me Home Tonight. Though she claims that she never let the relationship get physical, she admits that she had emotionally cheated on Indra with Pratt. So, there's a good chance that her own past haunts her, creating fears and doubt about Pratt while he's off sharing the screen with many of Hollywood's most beautiful women.
9 Envious Of Fame
It may seem a little silly to suggest that Faris was envious of Pratt's fame, but it may have some truth to it as well. Remember, when these two got together, Faris was the much bigger star. Over the years, Pratt landed some big roles and became the bigger celebrity.
Now, he's one of the industry's biggest stars and while Faris still does very well for herself, it's possible that she grew tired of Pratt's status.
If nothing else, Faris might just get annoyed by how recognizable Pratt is now in public. The picture above shows what Faris likely has to deal with on a regular basis. She doesn't look too happy about it.
8 Net Worth
When the lawyers got involved in the separation between Faris and Pratt, they would have made a clear separation of earnings. We will never get the exact details, but we can figure out roughly what the two are worth based on their reported earnings year over year.
In 2016, Pratt got ranked as one of the highest-paid actors in Hollywood, bring in a crazy $26 million.
This was split over two film franchises, Guardians of the Galaxy and Jurassic Park. Faris doesn't do so bad herself, making about $125,000 per episode of Mom, which is running through its fifth season. In total, Faris is worth approximately $20 million, whereas Pratt is worth about $40 million.
7 New Look
When Faris and Pratt got together, it wasn't Pratt's looks that she was mainly attracted to. While she admits that she certainly liked his look, it was his personality and confidence that lured her in. Faris, however, was smoking hot back then. She still is, but this was at a time when she had just completed her sexiest role in House Bunny and was consistently listed as one of the world's most attractive comedians. Pratt was a little chubbier then than he is now and a little homelier. He got in shape for a few roles, including Zero Dark Thirty, and has stayed in excellent shape. When Pratt was asked if he missed being fat, he admitted that he did. He also made a joke about his wife missing him like too. While this was more a joke about cooking, it's possible that Faris missed it when Pratt was chubbier and didn’t get so much attention.
Chris Pratt has never shied away from his Christian beliefs, but he never really wore them like a badge of honor as he does now. He had made comments about his faith in relation to Faris in the past, saying, "Our relationship has made me believe in divine intervention and destiny, just as much as my crazy career and the way I fell into this life."
When the relationship started getting rocky, however, there were reports that religion and faith were coming between the two actors.
Faris is said to be an atheist, or at least not nearly as religious as Pratt. It does seem odd that since the breakup, Pratt has been seen taking his child to church and has been talking about God quite a bit more. Maybe he felt stifled or maybe he's just looking for some additional comfort in this difficult time.
5 More Kids
We may never find out if it's true or not, but after the breakup, TMZ reported that there were some troubles caused by what Faris and Pratt saw in their future, particularly in regards to family. There was a time when Faris and Pratt both talked about wanting a big family. Faris said,
“We both love kids, Chris and I have both dreamed about having a big family,”
but, with Pratt's career taking off, he pumped the brakes a little. This might have created a rift between the two because Faris now faces high-risk pregnancies, so time isn't on her side when it comes to getting pregnant again.
4 Separation Over Divorce
When Pratt and Faris first split up, there was a lot of talk about divorce, but it seems that both parties are avoiding that for now. The reasons could be many, but the most logical would be to keep certain marital benefits that can prove beneficial for both parties and their child. Take health insurance, for example, or social security. Faris, who is set to make considerably less money than Pratt, will be able to maintain a higher level of health insurance and social security because of her marriage with Pratt even though they are no longer together. If they were to divorce, they would be completely on their own. This way, everyone wins, and they still don’t have to live with each other.
3 Protecting Money
When less fortunate people break up, everyone looks to money as the culprit. Struggling for money and having money issues can be incredibly stressful on a couple, but what about the rich? Do they have struggles regarding money as well? Possibly.
By filing for separation, Pratt and Faris put a time stamp on their assets.
Everything they accrue after the date of legal separation is their own. Everything else, all the money that they made while they were together is community property. Now, perhaps with Pratt set to continue making boatloads of money, he wanted to protect his future earnings. That's not to say that Faris makes peanuts either. She's making money hand over fist as well, but it's clear that Pratt has a crazy acting future ahead of him.
2 The Public Eye
Anna Faris has been a great comedian for many years, but even at her peak, she was mostly known because she was married to Chris Pratt or as "that hot blonde from the Scary Movie franchise." Don't get us wrong, we're huge fans. But the average film-goer wouldn't know her name. Pratt, however, is a megastar. Everyone knows him. When this couple goes out, he's the one that gets the most fans screaming in his face. Everything in their life is now public, and this is something that they battled, especially Faris. "We grapple with the idea of being a public couple," she said, “For the first time, maybe a year ago or 10 months ago, we were in the public a little bit. There were some tabloid rumors about strain in our relationship. I just remember feeling so hurt in a way that bothered me because I didn’t want to think of myself as somebody that could be affected by tabloid s**t.” This could have worn her down over time and maybe she wanted a break from it all.
1 Different Philosophies On Life
Back when these two were lovebirds and Pratt was on Parks & Recreation, he said, “Anna once told me that if I moved her into a trailer, she would still be happy.” Now, we're sure that many people would feel like Pratt does, but it seems that he does not share that same humble view of life. He wants more, and he's out there getting more.
Pratt has said that he wants to continue working with Marvel moving forward and has signed on for several more films.
He also has addenda in his contracts that allow him to earn money long after the franchises are complete, a level of greed or whatever you want to call it that Faris does not seem to have.
