We're going to apologize if you learn some things today that forever alter your childhood. After all, you may have loved Pee-Wee Herman, but maybe not as much after you learn he was caught with child p*rn and diddling his willy in public.
Even Stevens was a staple for many children, but you probably didn't think that Louis was going to grow up thinking that all black people were going to hell. And James Bond may be great with the ladies, but Sean Connery's stance on beating women may definitely rub you the wrong way.
Not to mention other shows like 7th Heaven, Glee and Ferris Bueller's Day Off that contain cast members who committed crimes against minors that are going to make you sick to your stomach.
If you're also wondering whatever happened to Michael Jace who was outstanding as a police officer in The Shield, the answer you're probably not expecting is that he's in jail after shooting his wife several times. It'll become abundantly clear why some of these celebrities decisions ended up costing themselves millions of dollars. You might have loved the role, but you definitely aren't going to love the person behind it.
These are 15 performances that are ruined because the actor's a horrible person.
15 Jeffrey Jones (Ferris Bueller's Day Off) - Solicited Minor
Jeffery Jones is always going to be recognized for his performance as the principal in the film Ferris Bueller's Day Off. But what Jones did in real life was far more raunchy than anything that Ferris was trying to get up to! He was arrested back in 2002 after it became apparent that he was in possession of child p*rnography and had also solicited a 14 year-old boy to take nude photographs for him.
At the time of his arrest, Jones' lawyer stated
"This will be resolved very quickly so he can get on with his life and get back to work. [Jones] is a very decent guy, and his life shouldn’t be ruined.”
Sorry buddy, getting arrested for these crimes are always going to ruin your image.
14 Paul Reubens (Pee-Wee Herman) - Inappropriate Child Content And Public Self-Loving
Like many celebrities who have been caught with child adult entertainment, Paul Reubens had an excuse.
"I don't want anyone for one second to think that I am titillated by images of children. It's not me. You can say lots of things about me. And you might. The public may think I'm weird. They may think I'm crazy or anything that anyone wants to think about me. That's all fine. As long as one of the things you're not thinking about me is that I'm a pedophile."
The defense came after police found a collection of what they characterized as child p*rnography. Reubens also stated that while he collected erotica, that he bought in such large amounts that he couldn't possibly know if some of the material contained images of teenage boys (it did).
Reubens was also arrested in 1991 after getting busy with his manhood in an adult movie theater.
13 Sean Connery (James Bond) - Endorsed Hitting Women
Playboy may be known for the women in their birthday suit, but they also have done countless interviews over the years with some of the biggest celebrities. Back in 1965 they tracked down Sean Connery, but during the interview, Sean admitted he doesn't think hitting women is a big deal
"[I don't] think there is anything particularly wrong about hitting a woman--although I don't recommend doing it in the same way that you'd hit a man. An open-handed slap is justified--if all other alternatives fail and there has been plenty of warning."
Connery also has a history of abuse towards women. James Bond may be suave with the ladies, but you might never look at Connery's Bond the same way again.
12 Michael Jace (The Shield) - Killed His Wife
Michael Jace found tremendous success in the world of television. He spent years on both The Shield as well as Southland. But whenever you find yourself "whatever happened to" him, we can tell you exactly where he is.
That's because he is currently serving a 40-year sentence for fatally killing his wife back in 2014. Jace didn't deny the charges and was actually the one to call 9-1-1 following the altercation that ended with him shooting her several times.
You can imagine the fact that he spent years as an officer on The Shield didn't make the situation any more fun for Jace.
11 Michael Richards (Seinfeld) - Racist
There is some television shows that just don't seem to get old, no matter how many times you put them on. You could absolutely make an argument that Seinfeld is one of those shows. Or at least it was until Michael Richards went off on a horribly racist rant during a stand-up comedy routine.
And while Richards has since apologized profusely for his rant, you wouldn't be judged for a second if you said that you can't view Seinfeld in quite the same way. If we're being fair, Jason Alexander's career also didn't exactly take off after Seinfeld ended, but at least Alexander isn't openly racist!
10 Charlie Sheen (Two And A Half Men) - Abuse Of Women And Illegal Substances
Where do we even start with Charlie Sheen? It's impossible to watch him in Two and a Half Men and not know that the inevitable breakdown is going to happen. But even if you love Sheen as an actor, it's very hard to respect him as a person.
Sheen has constantly had issues with drugs and alcohol, and also had incidents in the past centered around domestic violence. Not to mention the whole being the HIV-Positive scandal that he got himself in.
Unfortunately, Sheen's career isn't dead quite yet with an upcoming movie centered around 9/11, but here's hoping people can stay far away from the theater.
9 Kirk Cameron (Growing Pains) - Anti-Gay Marriage
If you grew up the 80s, there was probably a pretty good chance you spent some time watching the show Growing Pains which starred Kirk Cameron. But while you may have been a fan of Cameron growing up, his staunch stance as an active Evangelical Christian definitely has the chance to rub you the wrong way.
Especially because as a result of his religion, Cameron is also staunchly against LGBTQ rights, describing gay marriage in the past as
"I think it's unnatural, I think it’s detrimental and ultimately destructive to so many foundations of civilization."
If there is any consolation, Cameron has since come out and said that adulterers and fornicators are far more worrying to him than gay marriage.
8 Shia LaBeouf (Even Stevens) - Thinks Black People Are Going To Hell
If we're being fair, there are several roles that Shia LaBeouf may have ruined for you but the most damaging may be Even Stevens. The Disney Channel series was a hallmark of many people growing up in the 90s and helped jump start what should have been a very promising career for LaBeouf.
But his legal struggles are hard to completely overlook. Especially his most recent which included him stating that black people are going to hell. LaBeouf has since apologized for his actions and stated that he has an addiction to alcohol.
Previous arrests including public intoxication in October 2015 would definitely back up that sentiment! LaBeouf also has a reputation for being difficult on set with his co-star in Lawless Mia Wasikowska having significant issues with his behavior.
7 Stephen Collins (7th Heaven) - Assaulted Minors
Stephen Collins had a respected career as an actor. His most prominent role came on the series 7th Heaven where he played one of the lead roles. He also made appearances in other shows such as It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, The Office and was a lead in the series Revolution.
Good luck enjoying any of those performances after you find out that he molested children. Collins stated in a past interview that he allegedly molested three women in between the years 1973-1994, but how many incidents there were was not specified.
The incidents became public knowledge after a marital counseling session between Collins and Faye Grant was publicized - during which he admitted to his transgressions.
6 Bill Cosby (The Cosby Show) - Allegedly Assaulted 50+ Women
The extent of Bill Cosby's crimes will never be fully known. Over 60 women have come forward and stated that the comedian had sexually abused and in many cases, were drugged as well.
But to Cosby's credit, the only case that has currently gone to trial ended in a mistrial. Cosby will re-enter the public eye in 2018 when his trial starts up again.
But regardless of how it all goes, you can't tell me that watching The Cosby Show will ever be the same. While it was once arguably the most influential series for NBC, the black mark over Cosby's name is going to be impossible to forget for many people.
5 Duane Chapman (Dog The Bounty Hunter) - Racist
There is no way that we could make the argument that Duane Chapman's career was ruined by his horrifically racist statement. His show continued for years after, including having a spin-off created.
But we'll leave his comments - which he made in relation to his son dating a black woman - and let you be the judge on if you want anything to do with the Bounty Hunter.
"I’m not taking a chance on some *motherbleeper*. I don’t care if she’s a Mexican, a wh*re, whatever. It’s not cause she’s black. It’s because we use the word n——r sometimes here. I’m not going to take a chance ever in life losing everything I worked for for 30 years cause some bleeping n——r heard us say n——r and turned us in to the Enquirer magazine. Our career is over.”
A&E defended their decision to put the show back on the air saying,
"I have been with this man several times and had extensive dialogues with him. I consider him and his wife good friends. Duane is a changed man and has a higher purpose. Popular television is a wasteland of meaningless titillation and degradation. The Dog's potential to take his celebrity and turn it into something redeeming for our culture and society is immense. It is for these reasons that we want his television show back on the air."
4 Mel Gibson (Braveheart) - Hates Jews And Thinks Ex-Wife Deserves To Be Assaulted
Mel Gibson is one of the most prolific action stars of all-time. His most infamous may be Braveheart but he also spent years with the Lethal Weapon franchise.
He's also shown his talents behind the camera, directing some incredibly successful films. But Gibson has also had trouble with the law that you may find hard to not think about whenever you see one of his films.
This included a drinking and driving incident in 2006 that included him stating several anti-Semitic slurs.
Gibson has also had a nasty divorce with Oskana Grigorieva that included a moment where he allegedly said she deserved to be sexually assaulted. Gibson is hoping to jump back into the public spotlight with several upcoming projects in the works including Daddy's Home 2.
3 Mark Salling (Glee) - Possessed Inappropriate Child Content
Glee may be a show about wholesome values and talented singing, but this entry will make you sick to your stomach. Mark Salling portrayed the character Noah "Puck" Puckerman for the first 5 seasons of the show. But while Salling's last appearance was in the episode "Dreams come true", for Salling his "dream" situation in the bedroom clearly involved minors.
At least that appears to be the case as back on December 29th, officers came across thousands of photos and videos of minors while searching his home.
While his charges have yet to be laid out, we're sure the public learning even more details about the situation probably isn't going to help his case!
2 Marc Anwar (Coronation Street) - Openly Racist Against Indians
We aren't going to blame you if you don't recognize the name Marc Anwar in comparison to some of the names on our list. Anwar primarily acts in the United Kingdom and spent over 100 episodes appearing on the television series Coronation Street.
At least until a racist rant on Twitter ended up costing him his job. Among his insults, Anwar called Indian people bastards and people who love to drink urine. He was fired within hours, with the station releasing the statement,
"We are deeply shocked by the entirely unacceptable, racially offensive comments made on Twitter by Marc Anwar. We have talked to Marc and, as a consequence of his comments, he will not be returning to Coronation Street with immediate effect.”
1 Shannen Doherty (Charmed) - No One Wanted To Work With Her
One of the things that you need to hope for when you watch a television series is that the cast and crew are going to get along. If not, you know that is just going to make for some awkward long days on-set that isn't good for anyone.
Unfortunately, long days on set may have been fairly common for the television series 90210 and Charmed; both of which starred a very diva-centric Shannen Doherty. Alyssa Milano in particular, who starred with Doherty on Charmed, has been vocal in the past about her difficult attitude - including allegedly only speaking to each other when the camera was on.
Getting to star in a television series, much less several, is an opportunity that Doherty clearly didn't realize. Or she did and she still elected to be a jerk. Either way, it definitely hinders the performances she has put in over the years.
