Game of Thrones stormed onto our screens in 2011, introducing us to a fantasy world full of dragons, war and most importantly – Jon Snow and Daenerys Targaryen. The Mother of Dragons, Breaker of Chains and rightful air to the Iron throne captured our hearts as she battled her way to take back Westeros.
We just love an underdog, and Jon Snow is no different. After years of shame placed upon his shoulders as the bastard son of ill-fated Ned Stark, Snow finally found his place as the named King of the north. If you’re an avid GoT fan, you’ll know that Jon isn’t a Snow or a Stark, but in fact nephew to Daenerys and rightful air to the throne – Aegon Targaryen. Phew. It’s a little confusing, right? Things got a lot more confusing this past weekend when Snow and Dany got very intimate in a scene that pushed the envelope, even for a show noted for its steamy scenes.
Perhaps rather oddly given that they’re related (although they don’t know it yet) fans are obsessed with the idea of Dany and Jon being a legitimate couple in real life. Arguably the two best loved characters in the show, we just can’t help but wish that chemistry would cross over into real life. Kit Harington (Snow) and Emilia Clarke (Daenerys) have an electricity that sizzles whenever they’re in the same vicinity. And yes, we all know that Harington is in a long term relationship with Rose Leslie (Ygritte in seasons 2-4). That doesn't stop us from stirring the pot though and giving you what you want - 15 pictures of the most beautiful non-couple that we all ship (and that Leslie would rather keep buried).
15 Look Of Love
It's not all award shows and ethereal dusky shots on the hillside, being in such a high-profile show means a lot of press shoots. Here, we have leather clad Harington and silver-haired Clarke in character as Jon and Daenerys sharing a goofy moment between shots. As much as we're sure that he's just got that kind of face - you have to admit, this look screams pure admiration. There's rarely a photo of the pair together that isn't of them having what looks like the best darn time ever. We can only imagine what they're laughing at. Whatever the reason, it's nice to see the two characters merrily laughing away, when they're usually all doom, gloom and dragons.
14 Goofing Around On Set
Apparently, those giant fur capes don't keep the actors warm enough. Clarke posted this candid pic on her personal Instagram page on August 6th, with the caption 'Wait..... did I NOT tell you guys?! Um yeah. Now if he'd only bend the bloody knee there'll be no problems...'. Fans went wild for this snippet, and it garnered an impressive 2.8 million likes. We told you we ship it. We ship it enough to like it 2.8 million times. Not only is Harington super cute in his little Harry Potter-esque glasses, but Clarke looks like she's having the best time. What do you think, best friends - or is there something more there?
13 Awards Show Glory
If you're here reading this, you know that GoT is a big deal. Like, a really big deal. Bigger than the latest solar eclipse. Since the beginning of the show, it has won dozens of awards - far too many to list. But, to name but a few, 38 Prime-Time Emmy awards, 5 Screen Actors Guild Awards and a Peabody Award. That's a lot of award ceremonies to go to, speak at and look blissfully happy at. Everyone wants to see Dany and Jon together in real life and luckily for us, they look like the most beautiful brunette couple on the planet. Especially dressed up to the nines. The best part? Harington's eyes and Clarke's radiant smile. I mean, can we just appreciate how painfully gorgeous their children would be? Sigh. Sorry, Rose.
12 Sleek Smiles
Can you hear that? That's the crackle of undeniable electricity, emanating from your screen as you gaze longingly at this photograph. Probably taken at some sort of event or awards show where GoT swept the floor with the other shows, Kit manages to look every inch Jon Snow, all dark, brooding and beardy. Fun fact - many fans didn't realize that Clarke was the complete opposite of Daenerys and her almost white hair. When photos first emerged of the star when the show aired, it caused quite the uproar. Isn't it amazing what fans expect of their stars? You just can't lose when Harington's in a suit and Clarke is in red lipstick. Swoon.
11 Private Joke
We've all had that relationship where our significant other gets on like a house on fire with a member of the opposite sex. It's a little hard to swallow when you see your other half having more fun with someone who isn't you, isn't it? Okay, so Leslie is supposedly great friends with Clarke too - but, would you be happy to see your boyfriend giving his beautiful co-host a side-eye? *sips tea* Leslie sits in the middle while her significant other and Clarke are to the left. Clearly focused on the camera and questions being asked, we can't help but wonder, what was the joke, guys? Whatever it is, we want to be in on it. Pretty please?
This Rolling Stone feature has a lot to answer for, doesn't it? Look at the tenderness between the two would-be leaders of Westeros. This feature was back in 2012, but bearing in mind Leslie and Harington supposedly got together in 2011, we can only imagine her face when she opened this issue. Is there anything more romantic than two lover - sorry, co-stars - frolicking on the hillside? We don't think so. Cue the wind blowing, giving us some wonderfully windswept hair-do's and we may as well be looking at star-crossed lovers Kathy and Heathcliff from Emily Bronte's romantic novel, Wuthering Heights.
9 Boozy Lunch
Raise your hand if you've ever had a drunken hook-up with a colleague. I'll wait. We're not saying that's what happened here, but we can dream, right? That looks a lot like an empty bottle of Glenmorangie whiskey there, which isn't for the fainthearted. Note the tactfully placed hand of Kit's on Clarke's thigh. Was this pre-Leslie? Could those dating rumors be true? COULD WE BE ANYMORE EXCITED? In reality, it's probably just a shot of the two drinking to their huge success in a purely platonic way but... who knows. Brb, my hands are hurting from all the pot stirring. Something tells me that The Richest isn't going to get invited to the Harington-Leslie wedding...
8 Coordinating Outfits
Ah, matching outfits. The staple of any young couple. Do you remember Britney and Justin Timberlake at the 2001 American Music Awards, when they wore their matching denim ensembles? The pair had been dating for around two years at that point. Of course we all know how that ended - but in this case we can only hope that matching white outfits mean that Harington and Clarke's relationship is merely growing, like fungus in a petri dish, waiting for its moment to thrive in the right environment. It might sound a little crazy, but let's face it. This is a show where brothers and sisters and aunts and nephews do the dirty, so what even is sane?
7 Casual Stroll
Why the stern faces? What are they discussing? It's a mystery, but we kind of like it that way. It's not often that you find a snap of these two looking anything other than ecstatic, and that's why we like it. This is a shot of the everyday - of the two hanging out when there isn't a press engagement or awards ceremony in sight. They're just two average people taking a walk down the street - impeccably dressed. We'll never know the topic of conversation, but we can make it up in our heads (it's what we do here.) This photo is a pretty good reminder that it's not all suits and floor-length gowns for the pair, but they have to go and get their coffee from Starbucks just like us mere mortals.
6 Rolling Stone AGAIN...
Let's take a moment here to appreciate how incredibly beautiful Lena Heady looks here. We are all over that Cersei stare, murdering the camera. You go, Lena. Now we've got that out of the way, let's switch our gaze to the left and look at our two main attractions, in our final shot from that Rolling Stone feature. Some argue that a kiss on the head speaks more volumes about tenderness and intimacy than any kiss on the lips could ever do. For those people, we proudly serve you this photo on a silver platter. There's something about the full grip on Clarke's back and that lovely little smooch to the forehead that has us completely shook. What can we say. Print it out, stick it your dream board. Rose probably didn't.
5 Alone Time
Another shot from the before seen TV Guide interview, this time - the stage has been cleared and it's just the two non-love birds in view. Leslie has gone off to presumably dry her tears at being left out of the private joke and the two stars are looking tentatively at the interviewer, who has probably just asked 'When's the wedding?'. #Awkward. It's a tranquil setting that we are just digging. Can we suggest an intimate family affair on a similar boat, with fairy lights and Samwell Tarly officiating the ceremony? For the record, it's not that we're obsessed. We're not. We're most definitely not obsessed. WE'RE NOT, OKAY?
4 Family Photo
When fans crop you out of the photo, it's got to hurt a little bit. After all, Leslie was in the show, playing the wildling Ygritte and Jon's first wuv. Ygritte broke our hearts when she died, leaving poor old Jon all alone in his battle. But, hey-ho, she made way for the weird pairing of aunt and nephew. This photo of Maisie Williams (Arya Stark), Natalie Dormer (Margaery Tyrell), Clarke and Harington is one of the nicest Game of Thrones family photos that we've ever seen. It's all beautiful skin, bright white teeth and the promise of a long and prosperous future in the Harington-Clarke household. At least, that's what we got from it anyway.
3 Don't Look Now
Sometimes, a sly camera man or photographer gets the perfect still. This shot has us asking all sorts of questions, not least - where exactly is your hand, Jon? Dressed in the same matching outfit we have previously seen, there's something pretty perfect about this slightly blurry grab. Apparently, your body naturally points in the direction of someone you're physically attracted to, and if that's the case then HALLELUJAH. Science has got you bang to rights, Kit. We admit there might be a slight possibility that this is mid-pose, but can we just have this one, please? Hold on to your hats for the last two entries... Jon and Dany certainly didn't.
2 Kissing For Rolling Stone
Lately, photos have gone viral of Clarke and Harington kissing. Photographer Peggy Sirota shot the pair, along with Alfie Allen (Theon Greyjoy) and Lena Headey (Cersei). When she posted this snap on her personal Instagram in February of last year, it lay pretty dormant. Recently, fans rediscovered this outtake from the Rolling Stone issue and it went viral in a matter of hours. That's how hard the GoT fandom wants the couple together - we'll latch on to everything and anything. Can't be easy for redheaded Leslie to see though - although if you click through to number 1, you'll see it's about to get much, urm, harder.
1 That Scene
We all wonder how the significant others of actors feel when they see their partners simulating sweet love-making with someone else on screen. It can't be easy - even if it is their job and it paid for the house you live in. In this past weekend's season 7 finale of Game of Thrones, fans got what they'd all been waiting for in the strangest way. If you forget about that fact that what we're watching here is an aunt unknowingly sleeping with her nephew, then it was hands down one of the steamiest scenes we've seen on any show in a long while. It's caused a sensation that's not going to die down any time soon. Rose, we love you - but get that ring on your finger!
