Born in Grand Prairie, Texas as Selena Marie Gomez, the young actress and singer didn’t always have an easy time in Hollywood. Back in 2001, Selena started her show business career when she played the part of Gianna in Barney & Friends. Unfortunately, cute little Selena wasn’t Barney’s friend for much longer, since she was booted from the popular children’s TV program after 2 years.
Selena went on to audition for a few other roles but sadly didn’t get cast as much as she would have wanted. Fortunately, her perseverance paid off and she landed some small roles. Eventually, the Disney Channel took notice of the young Selena. The then-teenaged Selena Gomez would eventually get a spot on The Suite Life of Zack and Cody, where she would get introduced to the Sprouse twins Cole and Dylan. Gomez would also meet Miley Cyrus when she got to play a character on Hannah Montana.
It wouldn’t take Selena Gomez that long to star in her own TV series; the actress would eventually bag the role of Alex Russo in Disney Channel’s The Wizards of Waverly Place. The series was a hit, running from 2007 to 2012. Aside from acting, Selena also exhibited major talent in music. For example, Gomez did a cover of Cruella de Vil for DisneyMania 6. Until this day, Selena Gomez has balanced her career between music and acting.
It also goes without saying that Selena Gomez’s skills have evolved over the years. Not only that, but the young actress/songwriter also has varying tastes in hairstyles, which she is not afraid to experiment with. Check out Selena Gomez’s hairstyles from her Disney days up until today and let us know which ones are your favorites!
15. Clipped Bangs
The young Wizard of Waverly Place, aka Alex Russo, is the perfect example of the girl next door. With clipped bangs and her perfectly straight hair framing her face, Selena Gomez always has a smile that certainly charms and wins over her family and friends.
It also doesn’t hurt that the budding Mexican actress possesses a wand that could make her life so much easier around her brothers, Justin and Max Russo. The young wizards use their magical abilities to compete with each other in the hopes of winning custody of the family powers.
14. Posh Updo
Selena Gomez plays the role of Cordelia Winthrop Scott as well as that of Grace Bennett in Monte Carlo. In this 2011 film, Cordelia is a mean British heiress, or should we say brat, while Grace is a high school student who works as a waitress. However, Cordelia and Grace get mistaken for each other, despite their very different personalities.
The mix-up in Monte Carlo brings a series of unfortunate events where police officers are needed, and where scenes could lead to some characters being arrested. However, all is well that ends well and our characters are all business as they continue to embark on the journey they have started.
13. Long Wavy Tresses
Back in 2013, the musically-talented actress signed a 3-year contract with Adidas to spearhead the Neo campaign, which targets the tween demographic that follows Selena Gomez. In that campaign, Selena could be seen with long wavy tresses that go quite well with the Adidas goods she was wearing – leggings, bright sneakers, black, white, and even pastel tops.
Selena’s wavy tresses paired with a fierce red lipstick as well as a smashing leather jacket gave the songstress an even edgier look for Adidas’ Neo 2013-2014 autumn winter collection.
12. Simple Nape Bun
Texan-girl turned Hollywood name, Selena is not one to forget her roots. The “Bad Liar” singer is often seen attending NBA games where her favorite basketball team is playing. In this photo, Selena shows some love for the San Antonio Spurs by wearing their basketball jersey.
Topping the ensemble, Selena sports a simple nape bun while watching the exciting and tight match between the Spurs and the LA Lakers.
11. Casual Top Knot
Arriving in style is one of Selena Gomez’s gifts and that is exactly what she did when she landed at Haneda Airport in Tokyo, Japan on August 1, 2016.
Garbed in a cropped denim jacket, as well as a ribbed black turtleneck, and olive green drawstring pants, Selena captured the hearts and attention of those around her as she gave homage to Yoko Ono with her red-tint round shades. The Mexican beauty kept it even more casual with a pair of Converse kicks.
10. Purple Hair
Before Ultra Violet became color of the year, Selena Gomez already rocked purple hair during her stay with the Disney Channel. As you can see in the photo above, the young Selena looked ultra girly in her black spaghetti strap, purple curls, and her iconic Disney necklace.
Now that Pantene has announced Ultra Violet, a color that represents ingenuity, originality, and visionary thinking, as the color of the year, it seems as though Selena has added a little bit of purple to her platinum blonde hair. However, there was no official mention of the new dye job on any of her social accounts, nor those of her stylists. As of yet, anyways.
9. Chic Side Pony
Channeling her inner Cleopatra, Selena Gomez aced winged eyeliner and gold accessories. However, she opted for a chic side pony instead of donning stick straight hair with blunt bangs.
Selena Gomez flaunted her fashion side on the catwalk with other Hollywood celebs like Jennifer Love Hewitt, Hilary Duff, and Daisy Fuentes at the 5th Annual St. Jude’s Runway for Life at the Beverly Hilton. The fundraiser is for the benefit of St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
8. Beach Waves
The United Nations Children’s Fund is another organization that Selena Gomez is an active supporter of. To help raise awareness for UNICEF’s projects like their 3rd Annual Charity Concert, the young philanthropist shared her musical prowess by performing an acoustic set at the Best Buy Theater.
Wearing a simple white long-sleeved dress and letting her hair down accessorized with daisies, Gomez mesmerized the crowd with her rendition of “A Year Without Rain.” She also covered (friend) Taylor Swift’s “I Knew You Were Trouble” and Britney Spears’ popular song “Baby One More Time.”
7. Straight And Sleek
Selena Gomez, as always, stunned the crowd with her sleek straight hair while clad in a body-hugging blue Versace gown at the Video Music Awards in 2013.
Despite being able to slay whatever hairstyle and makeup look she chooses, Selena graced the VMAs in a more basic and subtle look, probably to give more emphasis to her deep blue Versace gown that accentuates all the right curves. Not everyone can pull off that slit and the mesh details, by the way! Props to you, Selena!
6. Floral Crown
We love seeing Selena Gomez in white and she looked even better when she topped it all off and just absolutely killed it when she wore orchids to crown her sleek bun at the Met Gala.
We’re not entirely sure if Selena’s gown fit the 2015 Met Gala: Through The Looking Glass theme. However, we’re assuming it does since renowned designer Vera Wang, who is of Chinese descent, made Selena’s pristine white gown for the glamorous event.
5. Curly Ringlets
In 2015, Selena Gomez graced the cover of V Magazine and even talked about Justin Bieber for the issue. For the shoot, Selena had her hair down in curly ringlets. What makes the V Magazine experience more interesting is that Selena was interviewed by her Spring Breakers co-star James Franco.
Aside from talking about Selena’s past relationship, the two also talked about what it was like when she records a new album, as well as how Selena felt about growing older.
Selena shared that the new label that she was working with helped her find her voice, that it’ll be different when she has a new boyfriend, and that the coming years will be incredible. True enough, Selena has predicted accurately and she’s doing better and better as she grows older.
4. Messy Up-Do
The 2009 American Latino Media Arts Awards gave Selena Gomez another trophy to take home when they announced her as the winner of the Year for the Television Comedy Actress Award. Selena Gomez competed against other big Hollywood names like America Ferrera and Salma Hayek, to name a few. All things considered, this was definitely a big win for the young star.
Selena may have worn a messy up-do for this event, but there was nothing messy about how she looked that night (and every other night). Donning a pastel peach gown with lace and floral accents, Selena was definitely a sight to behold.
Selena Gomez wowed in a gold dress while giving us a peek at her shapely legs. Her Faux-Hawk paired with a dramatic side braid, smoky eyes, sleek brows and peach lip tint also did wonders to complete the young Latina’s look for the 2013 MTV Movie Awards.
It’s not difficult to replicate this look. To copy Selena’s Faux-Hawk, create a Dutch braid incorporating the ends of 5 ponytails to create a single unit.
2. Full Bangs
Would it be safe to say that Selena is one of those girls you’d love to hate? It’s not because she’s got a bad attitude that needs improvement or anything. On the contrary, she loves to help others out and is already a known philanthropist (at such a young age!).
We envy her because any hairstyle looks great on her! Ask her to have her bangs clipped up, swept to the sides, or fall bluntly across her brows and you’ll be sure to know that the young star can pull it off with ease. And she’d look amazing with any of those looks. We wish we were blessed with her pretty face so that we could experiment with many hairstyles like she often does!
1. Nirvana Blonde
Selena Gomez ended 2017 with a bang by going bright blonde when she attended the 2017 American Music Awards. To make things a bit more shocking, the lovely actress had her trademark locks chopped off before the year ended.
Riawna Capri, one of Selena’s most trusted hairstylists also took to Instagram to share how long it took to have her new hair dyed blonde. Apparently, the process took a whopping 9 hours! Capri also shared that the process was a test of her patience since it took only one sitting to finish.
When asked if the dramatic look will be easily replaced, Selena replied that her platinum blonde hair isn’t going anywhere.
