Poison Ivy, Catwoman, Vicki Vale, Rachel Dawes. What do these names conjure up in your mind? Is it Michelle Pfeiffer or Anne Hathaway or Halle Berry rocking a catsuit? Or maybe you picture Uma Thurman dripping menace as Poison Ivy. Or perhaps Katie Holmes or Maggie Gyllenhaal, as girl next door Rachel? And then there's Alicia Silverstone's wacky Batgirl and blonde bombshell Kim Basinger's sultry Vicki Vale. Batman is about Batman and the villains like the Joker and the Penguin. But it is also about those babes, the good ones and the nasty, evil ones. But maybe...just maybe...you've forgotten the super-sexy supermodels who did star turns in the franchise or the French bombshell who was said to have turned Brad Pitt's head who was scorching hot in The Dark Knight Rises. So, let's look at the hotties of Batman, beginning with Batman in 1989 and ending with the totally dark The Dark Knight Rises in 2012. Sometimes, the films are very good and sometimes they aren't. Sometimes they are stinking bad. But the girls are always hot. Here are 15 Batman babes that turned Batman's head or made his life a misery. Sometimes both.
15 Anne Hathaway - Selina/Catwoman
After the success of The Dark Knight in 2008, 2012's The Dark Knight Rises saw the return of Christian Bale as Batman. And there's Mad Max's Tom Hardy as the nasty villain Bane. But wait, Anne Hathaway is Catwoman? Yes, as strange as it seems, she owned the role. Vanity Fair called her the best Catwoman ever. Ever! They raved, saying she was sexy, flip, and funny. And darn it, she looked great in that catsuit! That skintight catsuit. And she's got what the magazine called "a bat cycle." She's about the only thing in the film that can be said to be flip and funny. Seems things go from bad to worse in Gotham City. Forget a happy ending. But out in the real world, Anne Hathaway continues to go from strength to strength, with star turns in movies like Interstellar.
14 Uma Thurman - Poison Ivy
1997's Batman and Robin is bad. Very bad. Why? Well, imagine George Clooney as Batman and Arnold Schwarzenegger as Mr. Freeze and you'll understand. One nice thing about the film was Uma Thurman as nasty Poison Ivy. There are times when she resembles an alien with tight green everything and two strange pointy cones on her head. See? Poison Ivy is the ultimate eco-terrorist. She uses nasty substances from plants in a bid to save the natural environment. She even successfully (if only briefly) uses love potions on the likes of Batman and Superman. After Batman and Robin, Uma Thurman went on to do the Kill Bill films, as well as the very artsy Nymphomaniac. You can guess what that's about. Plus she's had a couple of husbands, a few lovers, and three kids. So busy, busy, busy.
13 Nicole Kidman - Dr. Chase Meridian
1995's Batman Forever is not a fan favorite. But it did give the world a hot (married to Tom Cruise) 20-something Nicole Kidman as shrink Dr. Chase Meridian. Says Dr. Chase to Val Kilmer's Batman, "You like strong women. I've done my homework. Or do I need skin-tight vinyl and a whip?" No reports on much of that but the Gotham City psychologist does a nice line of short dresses that leave little to the imagination. She meets the masked marvel when he zooms in to save the day and foil bad guys who are trying to rob a bank. It's clear from the beginning that she has the hots for the guy. In the movie, Meridian's shrink thing is multiple personality disorders, as in Bruce Wayne versus Batman. Well, since then, Kidman divorced Cruise, married Keith Urban, and made a cool $120 million in a string of successful films. And at nearly 50, she's still pretty hot.
12 Kim Basinger - Vicki Vale
Vicki Vale is pushing 70 years old. Her character hit the comics way back 1948. She's kind of the Lois Lane of the Batman universe, a reporter who goes on to do TV presenting. And in the 1989 film Batman, she's played by the smoking hot Kim Basinger. The film is pretty good to boot. Michael Keaton was Batman to Jack Nicholson's Joker. Of course, Batman wins. He always wins. Along the way, Vicki and Bruce and Vicki and Batman are sometimes loved up. And Vicki suspects that Bruce and Batman are one and the same guy, but she just can't quite prove it. It's hard to believe Kim Basinger is now a 60-something year old. Even in 2017's Fifty Shades Darker, she still looks so good. And believe us, she knows it too.
11 Halle Berry - Patience Phillips/Catwoman
Nearly 50, Halle Berry is still smoking hot in her jumpsuit as white-haired Storm in the X-Men franchise. Back in 2004, she was every boy's fantasy in a rather kinky, getting onto bondage outfit as Catwoman, in the totally dismal and forgettable film of the same name. Nobody seemed to like it. But it remains memorable for Berry's costumes, if nothing else. The plot? What plot? You see, Patience Phillips is a timid, oh-so-patient wallflower working for an evil cosmetics company. When the sh*t hits the fan, shy little Patience is transformed into superhero Catwoman. WTF? Yes, that's what audiences said at the time. Besides, Batman is nowhere to be found in the film. And what's Catwoman without Batman? In a word or two: A flop.
10 Michelle Pfeiffer - Selina Kyle/Catwoman
Back in 1989, Batman defeated the Joker and saved Gotham City. But then, a few years later, along comes the Penguin. So Batman digs out the mask and the Batmobile and swings into action again. Cue 1992's Batman Returns. And one of the main attractions was a scorching hot Michelle Pfeiffer as Catwoman. Oh, that catsuit. Even better, the film was pretty good. Batman Returns had Michael Keaton as the masked guy, Danny DeVito as the Penguin and a luscious Michelle Pfeiffer as Catwoman. The Penguin is hanging out in sewers and plotting. And Catwoman is helping. You might want to look away when the odious, deformed Penguin goes in for a snog with Pfeiffer's Catwoman. Batman wins again, and Pfeiffer became every boy's fantasy.
9 Maggie Gyllenhaal - Rachel Dent
2005's Batman Begins signaled a new direction for the franchise. The likes of Michael Keaton's good guy Batman were replaced by a troubled dark knight played by Christian Bale. In 2008's The Dark Knight, the soon-to-be-dead-from-a-drug-overdose Heath Ledger, joined the successful reboot as the Joker. Everything about the 2008 film was dark and menacing, including Maggie Gyllenhaal's Rachel Dent. Rachel, an assistant district attorney, was loved up with Bruce Wayne and Batman. But then she dumps him, saying she's in love with somebody else. Plus, Batman has his hands full with the rampaging Joker. It does not end well. Rachel meets a violent death and the film ends with the dark knight on the point a breakdown. Since 2012, our Maggie has had great success in TV and films, including TV's The Honorable Woman.
8 Jerry Hall - Alicia Hunt
Back in the day, Texas supermodel Jerry Hall was Mick Jagger's lover and the mother of his children. These days, she is married to media mogul Rupert Murdoch and his $13 billion fortune. But back in 1989's Batman, she was the Joker's sidekick and lover, Alicia Hunt. She and Jack Nicholson were a hot pair. Now, Jerry wasn't (and isn't) much of an actress, but she looked good in those scenes with Nicholson. Seems Alicia had known the Joker before he became the Joker when she was a crime boss' mistress and he was Jack Napier, the bad guy's enforcer. Trust us, she's not crazy about Napier becoming the Joker. In fact, she hates the clown makeup big time. The first time she sees him, she faints. It will surprise no one to hear that Hall played Miss Scarlett in the 1993 TV show Cluedo. Fortunately, it was short-lived, as only six episodes ever saw the light of day.
7 Sharon Stone - Laura Hedare
Okay, it's back to 2004 and Halle Berry is Catwoman. Remember, Berry is patient Patience Phillips and working for the evil Hedare cosmetics empire. And guess who the head Hedare is? It's Sharon Stone, looking hot with a toned bod and short hair. Now, Laura Hedare will stop at nothing to get her way. She has sinister plans involving a dangerous anti-ageing treatment. Think world domination. And just when evil is about to triumph, Patience becomes Catwoman and saves the day. Laura Hedare bites the proverbial dust. Now, the movie was not very good. In fact, it was bad. But Sharon Stone does well as the nasty cosmetics company boss, and she looks sinister hot doing it. Stone's pushing 60, still hot and, with 2017 seeing her strutting her stuff in seven movies, one busy lady.
6 Katie Holmes - Rachel Dawes
After the flop that was George Clooney and 1997's Batman and Robin, it took a while to breathe life into Batman once again. And then, along comes director/writer Christopher Nolan who decided to go all dark and menacing. 2005's Batman Begins gives us Christian Bale in his first outing as Batman. And we learn all about Batman's backstory, involving a fear of bats, the murder of his parents, and his training with mentor Henri Ducard (Liam Neeson), head of the League of Shadows. But wait, the League is intent on destroying corrupt Gotham City. So, Batman the protector, the dark knight, is born. And there's assistant district attorney and friend Rachel Dawes, to steer the confused young Batman in the right direction. And who better to do it than Katie Holmes? Then, the next year, she became Mrs. Cruise and turned her back on Batman. Was Cruise and Scientology to blame? Some say yes.
5 Drew Barrymore
In 1995's Batman Forever, Val Kilmer is a good guy Batman, Jim Carrey annoys as the Riddler, Nicole Kidman oozes with s*x appeal as Dr. Chase Meridian and Drew Barrymore does a Little Bo Peep impersonation as Sugar, the love interest of good guy/bad guy in one Two-Face. Sugar covers the good side. A chick called Spice, of course, takes the bad side. Drew Barrymore looks little girl hot, sometimes talking in a little girl voice, and just about making Sugar not so totally annoying as she should be. Maybe it's not Little Bo Peep she is channeling but Betty Boop? Anyway, Barrymore, once a troubled child star, has pulled up her socks and made a success of things. She acts. She directs. She produces. And she's worth $125 million. Pity about the divorce.
4 Alicia Silverstone - Barbara Gordon/Batgirl
1997 gave us George Clooney as Batman, Uma Thurman as Poison Ivy, and Alicia Silverstone as Batgirl. Now, trust us when we say Batman and Robin makes a mess of Batgirl. She's an English posh chick by the name of Barbara Gordon. And she's the niece of Alfred, Bruce Wayne's butler. She is disgusted by the fact that her uncle is a mere servant and, when she learns he's ill, flies to his side. Cue the dying butler sharing Batman's secrets with his niece. Barbara is then transformed in the blink of an eye into Batgirl. She hangs out with Batman and Robin, telling them they need her because "men" always mess things up. Now, Alicia Silverstone is not bad as Batgirl. But on the other hand, she's not good either. After a memorable turn as Cher in Clueless, Alicia Silverstone has had a string of forgettable appearances on TV and in the movies, including this year's Diary of a Wimpy Kid.
3 Vivica A. Fox - Ms. B. Haven
Yes, it's Vivica Fox as Ms. B. Haven and Arnold Schwarzenegger as Mr. Freeze. We are staying with Batman and Robin. Vivica is Ms. B. Haven to Arnold Schwarzenegger's Mr. Freeze. He's beyond chilling. Vivica does a bit of misbehaving and Arnold is comic book funny some of the time and just plain embarrassing at other times. Miss B. Haven is hot, in a cold kind of way. She looks great in her little white skating outfit, feathers and all. But, quite frankly, when you add Fox and Schwarzenegger to George Clooney and Alicia Silverstone, well, you begin to understand while, hot babes or not, the movie was just going nowhere. Fox has gone on to make many bad films, including 2017's Fat Camp. But she's looked hot in all of them.
2 Marion Cotillard - Miranda
Back last year, when Angelina Jolie announced she was divorcing Brad Pitt, the rumor mill went nuts. Brad had been filming a World War II drama called Allied, alongside French hottie Marion Cotillard. Plus, they were playing husband and wife and gossips insisted that the two had been at it in real life as well. Of course, they denied it. Back in 2012, Cotillard was the perfect choice to play the evil villain Miranda in The Dark Knight Rises. She has a go at seducing Christian Bale's Batman. And she does her best to make trouble for him. Audiences cheered when she got bumped off towards the end of the film. No word on whether she and a newly liberated Pitt will work together on a sequel. Fans hope so.
1 Elle Macpherson - Julie Madison
In the Batman universe, Julie Madison is a socialite who is dating Bruce Wayne, but is often saved from peril by Batman. She doesn't connect the two at all. Seems Julie is just not all that bright. The character dumps Bruce because he won't get a "proper" job. See? Dumb. And in 1997's Batman and Robin, Elle Macpherson as Julie looks hot alongside a shorter, but smooth and handsome George Clooney. But, Elle McPherson should have stuck to being a rich and famous supermodel, because she's Terrible, with a capital "T". She can't act her way out of a paper bag. Even the stills from the movie make her look awkward.
On a hot scale of one to ten, she's an eleven. And acting? Subzero. Some regret that the scene where Poison Ivy kills Julie was cut from the final film.
