On Game of Thrones, Cersei Lannister has never been a fan favorite. In fact, she's the opposite of a fan favorite, because people really hate her... like, a lot. And even though I may love me some Cersei Lannister, I understand how she rubs people the wrong way.
Here's a short laundry list of her wrongdoings: She ordered Sansa's direwolf to be put to death. She imprisoned Ned Stark, which ultimately led to his beheading. She gave birth to one of the most vile characters on the show. And sure, she may never be as awful as Joffrey, but she did create that monster. She blew up about a zillion people in the Sept. Oh, and she’s been having an affair with her TWIN BROTHER.
At this point, one can make a pretty good case against Cersei Lannister. Even if I enjoy her witty one-liners, her "I don’t give a sh*t" attitude, and her affinity for drinking wine, I understand why Cersei has turned most audience members against her. However, there is something we all - Cersei lovers and Cersei haters - can agree on: Lena Headey, who plays Cersei Lannister, is absolutely gorgeous.
There was also a time in the show when Cersei Lannister was considered gorgeous as well. It may be hard to remember all the way back to when Cersei had hair, but she was hot. And honestly, someone needs to do something about Cersei's hair. It’s been two seasons since the Walk of Shame and Cersei is somehow unable to grow her hair past her ears? Cersei needs to chop some commoner’s head off and get Qyburn to make her a wig. I mean, Qyburn brought the Mountain back from the dead and made a dragon arrow. That dude can surely do something about Cersei's tragic hair.
In an attempt to change some Cersei haters into Cersei lovers, below are 15 hot photos of Lena Headey. Maybe these photos will help you forget about how evil Cersei is. I mean, Tyrion did say Cersei's one redeeming quality is her cheekbones, right?
15 Overalls Never Looked So Good
Lena Headey looks super hot wearing overalls with nothing underneath. Her face looks gorgeous, y’know because her face always looks gorgeous. Lena Headey just has really good features, which means Cersei Lannister also has good features. The biggest difference between Lena Headey and Cersei Lannister is their hair. Headey has dark hair, which she usually keeps short. On the other hand, Cersei Lannister has golden blonde hair.
On Game of Thrones, all of the Lannisters are known for their golden hair, though this has apparently been forgotten about on the show. If you watch the early seasons, Cersei, Jaime and Tyrion have very, very blonde hair. In fact, Tyrion looks a little bit ridiculous, but whatever. Throughout the series, both Jaime and Tyrion’s hair has gotten darker and darker. Both of them are pretty much rocking brown hair. What's up with that? Well, one explanation could for this odd change is that they are aging. Another explanation is that the sun isn’t out as much with winter being there. I’m assuming the real reason is that the actors simply got tired of dying their hair for the roles.
Cersei, on the other hand, is still rocking her blonde hair. Since Lena Headey wears a wig, instead of dying her natural hair, it’s obviously easier to keep her blonde.
14 Who Knew Cersei Lannister Has Abs?
Cersei Lannister is not one for wearing crop tops. In fact, the only women on Game of Throne who would wear something resembling a crop top would be Daenerys Targaryn and Margaery Tyrell. And even when Margaery wore her crop top-esque dresses in King's Landing, Cersei was not impressed. That being said, Lena Headey doesn’t get too many chances to show off her abs on Game of Thrones, but girlfriend has some abs. SLAY, Queen Cersei!
On a note about this outfit, I honestly don’t know why Lena Headey is wearing this weird sweater wrap thing that was popular in 1998. The only way an article of clothing like this is acceptable is if this photo was taken in 1998 and Britney Spears was wearing it. At least Headey has the abs to pull it off, even if she isn't Britney and it's not 1998.
13 That Black Latex, Though!
Alright, Lena Headey in this black latex bodysuit is HOT. Like, MEGA HOT. It’s so hot that you may just be able to start liking Cersei again, right? I know, you probably still hate Cersei, but at least I tried.
This black latex look is much more of a Lena Headey look, and not at all a Cersei Lannister look. We can all agree that Cersei Lannister would never be caught dead wearing this ensemble. Even if they somehow found a way to make latex in Westeros, I still don't think Cersei would rock this look.
Even though Lena Heady's personal style is pretty much the opposite of Cersei Lannister's, Headey landed herself the role of Cersei. Though, her landing the role was thanks to Peter Dinklage, who plays Tyrion Lannister. Peter Dinklage and Lena Headey are good friends and he is the one who suggested her for the role.
First of all, I love that Dinklage thought his good friend would be perfect for the role of a manipulative, self-obsessed woman, who is having sex with her twin brother. Also, it’s interesting that these two actors are friends, considering how much hate their characters give each other onscreen.
12 Lena Headey In 300
Lena Headey was rocking a Daenerys Targaryen costume way before Emilia Clarke was rocking it. I’m serious, this is 100% a Daenerys Targaryen outfit. I mean, maybe not now, since Daenerys has been rocking some general/captain/commander type outfits in season seven, but this dress could have easily been one of her earlier looks. I could totally see Daenerys wearing this during the time she was with Khal Drogo or during the time she was in Qarth.
This is not Lena Headey cosplaying Daenerys Targaryen, though. This still is from Zack Snyder’s 300. You know as in the Zack Snyder who now directs almost every DC Universe film. Um, is anyone else really hoping Lena Headey joins that DC Universe? I could totally see her as Catwoman. I mean, we all already know how good she looks in black latex, so...
11 The First Time We See Cersei Lannister
Just so we can all be clear, Cersei Lannister is hot. I know many people may hate her character on the show, but you can’t tell me that the woman in that photograph - Cersei Lannister - isn’t beautiful. She’s gorgeous, especially with her golden clothing complementing her golden hair.
Also, it’s a feat to still be beautiful even when your character pretty much never smiles. Like, ever. Cersei is almost always wearing a resting bitch face. When Cersei does smile, it’s usually at something evil, like the sly smirk on her lips after she exploded the Sept or poured wine all over Unella, aka the Shame Nun.
In the books, Cersei is often said to be the most beautiful woman alive but, as many readers point out, this “beauty” is influenced by Cersei’s standing. The fact that she comes from the richest house in all the land obviously helps with people thinking she's hot.
10 Slay, Lena Headey!
From a Cersei Lannister photo, we're back to a full-on Lena Headey photo, y'know because Cersei would never be photographed like this. Not only is Cersei Lannister's look different from Lena Headey's look, but Cersei Lannister's personality is also a far cry from Lena Headey’s actual personality. Headey comes across as cool, authentic, and down to earth in every interview, which is pretty much the opposite of Cersei.
In Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, Lena Headey played a character that much more resembled herself, as she got to rock her natural hair and wear clothes that she pretty much wore in real life. Sarah Connor also seems to be closer to Headey’s personality.
Also, I have to note that Emilia Clarke also played the role of Sarah Connor in Terminator Genisys. So both Cersei and Daenerys have played Sarah Connor... It's a weird world, guys.
9 Lena Headey Has That Tough And Sexy Thing Going For Her
Lena Headey’s beauty seems to come from a defiant place. It seems like she doesn’t care about beauty standards at all, and that makes her even more beautiful. In the past, Headey has been a very outspoken feminist. There was that one time she clapped back to the trolls who were disappointed she didn’t do the Walk of Shame scene herself (more on that later). Then in 2015, she was pregnant with a daughter, she released this statement:
“My daughter will have freedom of choice. She will be free to dance, to sing, to be educated in the fields that spark her passion, to marry if she wants, to marry WHO she wants, to remain single, or to fall in love with another woman. She’ll be able to wear what she wants, put on lipstick, and read books that spark debate and expand her mind.
She will be loved, protected, respected, and celebrated.
All these things that should be, and will be, basic human rights, are a promise to my daughter. My humble request is that you give what you can and maybe - just maybe - we can bring about the change we all wish to see.”
OKAY, so Lena Headey is basically a perfect human being. To be fair, I feel like Cersei would also have said this about Myrcella too. Cersei really did love her kiddos, even if her decision had basically led to all their deaths.
8 Lena Headey Loves Her Ink
If you’re into tatted up women, Lena Headey is your kind of woman. I mean, just look at her back! Also, look at her backside! Slay, Lena Headey.
As a 43-year-old mother of two, Lena Headey looks amazing in that itsy bitsy pink bikini. Of course, she doesn’t look perfect, because it’s a paparazzi shot and not a glossy magazine cover. When the paparazzi snap photos of celebrities on the beach, it’s usually at an unflattering angle or with unflattering lighting. They’re basically looking for flaws. Let us not forget the "Jennifer Love Hewitt has cellulite" thing that happened. Hard eye roll to that one.
Anyway, my point is that Lena Headey looks like a real person and she looks great, which is saying quite a lot since this is a paparazzi photo.
7 A More Airbrushed Backside
Just as an example of what airbrushing can do, here is a professional photo of Lena Headey’s backside which was on 300 promotional material. Of course, this photo doesn’t include her full backside, but I think you get the point in that professional photos always make celebrities look like glossy, perfect versions of themselves. I mean, Headey’s skin was definitely smoothed and made to look like it’s the most perfect skin of all time.
In this photo, another noticeable change is that Lena Headey doesn’t even appear to have tattoos. Of course, makeup may have been used to cover her tattoos, but it also could have been the job of Photoshop.
For the record, I have nothing against photoshop. Tweaking pictures to look more "perfect" is okay, as along as we're all aware of the tweaks being made. The danger is when one actually compares themselves to Photoshopped images of celebrities and thinks that level of perfect is attainable. It's not. It's not even attained by those perfect celebrities. It's all Photoshop, baby.
Headey reprised her role of Queen Gorgo in 2014’s 300: Rise of an Empire.
6 Pedro Pascal Approves
Let’s talk about Cersei Lannister and Oberyn Martell... Uh, I mean Lena Headey and Pedro Pascal.
There have been A TON of photos of the pair out and about together. Lena Headey has also uploaded photos of her with Pedro Pascal to her Instagram. Though, the pair never confirmed nor denied that they were dating, the obvious thing to assume is that Lena Headey and Pedro Pascal were dating, right? I mean, they did look pretty flirty.
The plot thickened when Lena Headey gave birth to her second child, a little girl, in 2015. But Headey never revealed who the father was. EXCUSE ME, is this a Cersei Lannister and Oberyn Martell love baby? I’m dead.
It seems that Lena Headey is now engaged to filmmaker Dan Cadan, so dreams of uniting House Lannister and House Martell are dashed. However, the baby girl may still totally be Pedro’s right? I'm holding out some hope.
Long story short, the Red Viper approves of Cersei. Off-screen, that is.
5 She Doesn't Take Herself Too Seriously
One of the things that is incredibly hot about Lena Headey is that she doesn’t take herself too seriously. Headey is the type of actress who will always make a silly face as soon as they call cut. I'm serious, just Google search for behind the scenes pictures of Game of Thrones and you will find endless photos of Headey making goofy faces. Lena Headey is also very close with many of her fellow actors - y'know like Pedro Pascal - which speaks volumes about her as a person.
Oh, and Lena Headey is also a flawless human being on Twitter. That’s right, you can find ol’ Cersei Lannister tweeting, where she regularly retweets her fans and wishes them a happy birthday. I mean, is that the least Cersei Lannister-like thing to ever do or what?
My point is that Lena Headey’s beauty comes from the inside. She is a wonderful person, who apparently has the acting ability to play the meanest of the mean in Westeros.
4 All Those Strong Female Roles
I just feel like there's nothing hotter than a bad ass woman in a tank top, right? I mean, Lena Headey as Sarah Connor for the win, y’all.
But honestly, Lena Headey has played a lot of strong ass women. For starters, there’s Cersei Lannister. You may feel how you feel about this character, but you have to admit she’s strong. She survived the Walk of Shame and the deaths of all three of her children. Oh, and she took the Iron Throne. Yes, Cersei may go to any length for what she wants. She may be evil, but she is still strong.
As mentioned earlier, Sarah Connor is yet another strong female played by Lena Headey. In 300, Lena Headey played Queen Gorgo, a historical figure known for her political judgment and wisdom. Queen Gorgo is also known for being the daughter of a king, wife of a king, and mother of a king, which is kind of like Cersei except that Tywin Lannister was never a king, even if he pretty much acted like one.
Any actress who plays strong, bad ass women is hot in my book.
3 Queen Cersei Lannister
Here's one more of Lena Headey as Cersei Lannister, because you really cannot deny that Cersei Lannister is hot. Though, part of what made Cersei Lannister hot was her long, blonde hair, which is no longer a thing. And I have to say I’m not digging the short hair thing that Cersei is doing. Like, you’re telling me that Daenerys sailed to Westeros and Cersei’s hair STILL hasn’t grown an inch? No way. I shouldn’t obsess about Cersei's hair, but it’s just that the short hair is so bad and her long hair was so good.
It is worth mentioning that Cersei is rocking the shortest female hair we’ve seen on this series. The only hair as short as Cersei's was maybe Arya in the earlier seasons when she was pretending to be a boy, but that’s it. That said, this short hair of Cersei's could be a stylistic choice of hers, as it shows she’s given up on traditionally feminine dreams. Being that her husband and all her children are dead, what Cersei wants now is power, which was a desire traditionally reserved for men in the world of Game of Thrones.
2 No Walk Of Shame Here
Lena Headey should probably just stop wearing clothes, right? I mean, her bod is smokin’ hot. I would walk around naked all the time if I looked like that.
Also, I guess we can all assume this is what Cersei Lannister looks like in the buff. Well, we actually did see Cersei Lannister in the nude during the Walk of Shame, though there was absolutely nothing sexy about the nudity in that scene. The scene required Cersei Lannister to be stripped down, shaved, and forced to walk all the way to the Red Keep. On the walk, Cersei has food and various bodily fluids thrown at her. It was gross and heartbreaking. Even the biggest Cersei hater had to feel a little bit bad for her in that moment.
Though that was a nude Cersei Lannister scene, Lena Headey used a body double. Because Headey forewent stripping down on camera, she faced some criticism, as people questioned her commitment to the role. On the subject Lena Headey has said, "Some people thought I was less of an actress because I didn’t get my t*ts out."
Way to kept it real, Lena Heady.
1 Lena Headey Isn't Sorry
The above photo is a great example as to why Lena Headey can play Cersei Lannister so well. Both Lena Headey and Cersei Lannister embody an "I don't give a sh*t" attitude. Yes, their attitude comes out in different ways. Lena Headey is more artistic, liberal, funny, and kind. Cersei, on the other hand, is guarded, cunning, manipulative, and self-absorbed. Regardless of the different ways these women don't give a shit, Headey is able to transfer her version of this attitude to Cersei's version of this attitude.
Also, does Lena Headey look like the coolest person alive in that photo, or what?
So maybe these hot photos of Lena Headey didn’t convince you to love Cersei Lannister. Hey, even if you still hate her, you have to admit that she is a wildly interesting character, which is probably why you hate her. Cersei is such a well-developed character that she feels real, making her evil acts feel all the more evil.
In the end, I think we can all agree that Lena Headey’s performance as Cersei is masterful in every sense of the word. It's Headey's convincing performance that makes you hate Cersei. So hate on Cersei Lannister all you want, but remember to love on Lena Headey.
