In the age of sharing every intimate moment on social media, stars are just like the rest of us: sometimes they mis-tweet, or accidentally forget to flush the toilet for a bathroom selfie, or even get caught Photoshopping themselves to look even better than they actually look. Well, maybe that last one isn't so common for normal people.
In a way, these social media snafus make us feel a little better about our own questionable Instagram behavior. It's not like we have millions upon millions of people watching our every move. If you happen to post an embarrassing pic, be glad that your BFF, that coworker who has a crush on you, and some clown you went to school with a decade ago are probably the only ones who will see it.
Unlike us, you'd think celebs have an entire team assembled just to scan their phones and make sure that next selfie won't end up in the gossip rags. Apparently, they don't. Embarrassing pics have a way of slipping through.
Sometimes the errors are subtle, while still others are completely obvious. From poorly-Photoshopped backgrounds to totally blowing a sponsored post, these stars learned the hard way to double-check before you post.
15 Taylor Swift's Topography
Here we see a totally normal, adorable snap of Taylor Swift and her besties enjoying a day in the sun. So cute! So fun! So... wait, what's that?
If you look closer on the right side of the frame, you'll notice that either the Earth is swallowing up both the mountain and guard rail of the boat they're on OR someone -- someone who isn't very good at Photoshop for that matter -- decided to make a quick but obvious edit in order to alter the girls' curves.
It appears the warped guard rail stretches all the way to Taylor. Come on, ladies, y'all look great, why ruin it with bad Photoshop? Alas, they did.
14 Ariana Grande's Suspicious Power Strip
Though she certainly isn't the first person to take a selfie in a filthy room and won't be the last, what was a run-of-the-mill selfie posted to Instagram by Ariana Grande in 2013 set the Internet aflame with amateur detectives furiously zooming in to figure out what the hell that was on her floor.
Let's be honest, we all know what it looks like. Reddit detectives set out immediately to answer the age old question: was that a dildo??
Ariana claims it was actually a power strip and that anyone who sees anything other than that needs Jesus. Reddit, however, rightfully pointed out that for a power strip, it sure seems to be missing electric devices plugged into it.
To this day, Ariana swears it definitely under no circumstances was an adult novelty toy. A power strip, you gutter-minded jerks, it was a power strip.
13 Brooklyn Decker's Double Decker Chins
You ever have one of those days where you're just on point from ponytail to toenails and want the whole world to know it? You grab your camera to take a front-facing selfie but open your phone just too soon then GAH WHAT IS THAT EVEN!
That's pretty much what happened when model Brooklyn Decker attempted -- on purpose, even! -- to take the worst selfie ever. Mission accomplished!
She has also posted awkward pics of getting her teeth whitened, dressed up in glasses and braces, and getting facial treatments. So safe to say while a few of her Instagrams may be embarrassing to us, but she obviously DGAF.
12 Britney Spears Got Back
Britney Spears has come a long way from her teen idol days of the late 90s, but no matter how many kids or how many shaved heads she bequeaths to this world, she will always be that precocious teen in pigtails to us.
That's why this particular Instagram fail is so baffling. She knows that we love her whether she's wielding an umbrella at Paparazzi or fetching coffee in stained sweatpants. No one expects flawless perfection from her, and in fact her average, twangy-voiced girl from Louisiana vibe is what everyone adores about her.
So why attempt impossible feats of human anatomy for the sake of an Instagram pic that will get called out for being ridiculous anyway? Don't do this to yourself, Brit-Brit.
You have to wonder who let this one fly. There isn't a single person on Earth -- except maybe for Barbie -- whose back curves up like that when flat on the ground. Not one. Definitely not Britney.
11 Scott Disick's Sponsored Slip
Unlike you and I with our pathetic Instagram accounts with a paltry hundred or even thousand followers, stars have massive audiences that they sometimes use to their advantage with sponsored posts. We all know they do it, but there's an unspoken rule that we won't say anything about them shilling detox teas and belly wraps if they, in return, act as though they genuinely use those products.
When the Lord copy-pasted word-for-cringe-worthy-word the copy he was sent by some marketing whiz for a shake he was shilling, he broke that code. He quickly deleted the tweet, but not before the damage had already been done.
In the screenshot heard 'round the world, Disick broke our trust and revealed the man behind the curtain. Rather, the marketing whiz behind the curtain.
Question is: did he still get paid?
10 Miley Cyrus Drops A Drake
Miley Cyrus really doesn't care what you think of her, so it's difficult to say if anything she does embarrass her, but this snap of her on the toilet wearing a Drake-print two-piece made everyone who saw it embarrassed for her. Still, that fabric is everything.
#PeePeeBlueLip, she added, pointing out that her lipstick matched her outfit. Her hideous, awesome outfit. Where does one even procure Drake fabric?
We wish we could say this was the worst of it, but she continued to post from the potty, at one point dropping her pants for a simulated deuce.
She seems to be a fan of toilet selfies, as her buddy Wayne Coyne of the Flaming Lips has stated quite clearly that she texts him as many times as "1,000 a day" with pics of her taking a pee. Keep it classy, Miley.
9 Queen Bey's Gap Is More Like Old Navy
You have to wonder why someone as perfect as Beyonce would feel compelled to drop a few pounds digitally before sharing a picture with the world. You are perfect just the way you are, Bey.
Still, that didn't stop her -- or, more likely, someone in her camp who isn't too good at this stuff -- from taking a crack at giving her a nice thigh gap in this snap from the golf course.
Rather than a quick nip tuck, she got a weird bend that only called that much more attention to her inner thighs. What is going on with that lump? You should probably get that checked out.
8 Justin Bieber And Selena Gomez Get Messy
Breaking up is hard to do, we all know that. Most of us simply hole up in the house with a pint of ice cream and a The Cure playlist, but when Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez were on the rocks in early 2016, they let it play out in front of the entire world.
After Justin posted a pic of himself with 17-year-old Sofia Richie, things got real.
"I’m gonna make my Instagram private if you guys don’t stop the hate this is getting out of hand, if you guys are really fans you wouldn’t be so mean to people that I like," he commented, referring to nasty comments directed at Sofia.
Selena Gomez, likely into her third pint of ice cream at that point, shot back. "If you can’t handle the hate then stop posting pictures of your girlfriend lol – it should be special between you two only. Don’t be mad at your fans. They love you. They were there for you before anyone."
Get a room. Or a therapist. Whatever.
7 Conor McGregor Kicks Back With Some Light Reading
MMA fighter and reigning UFC Lightweight Champion Conor McGregor is better known for his performance in the octagon than for being a voracious reader. That's fine, we can't all be scholars.
It's unknown if this was simply an elaborate prank or an actual error on his part; considering the snap is still alive and well on The Notorious' IG page, erring on the side of intentional is probably a safe bet.
No matter how many times one is punched in the face, they still know which way is up when it comes to a newspaper. Right?
6 Blake Lively's Alleged Oakland Booty
At the Cannes Film Festival in summer 2016, Blake Lively posted an incredible front and back shot of her spectacular golden Atelier Versace gown, only to ruin it by stealing Sir Mix-A-Lot lyrics in her caption.
"L.A. face with an Oakland booty," she wrote, no doubt in reference to her stunning face and, well, how can we say this politely? Her big fat assets.
The Internet quickly took her to task for borrowing lyrics from Baby Got Back which have previously been interpreted as demeaning toward black women, however Sir Mix-A-Lot himself said it was NBD.
"For her to look at her butt and that little waist and to say ‘L.A. face with an Oakland booty,’ doesn’t that mean that the norm has changed, that the beautiful people have accepted our idea of beautiful? That’s the way I took it," he later said in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter.
5 Kylie Jenner Is Clone-Happy
Kylie Jenner -- like her sisters -- has been accused of multiple obvious Photoshop sins over the years, from 'Shopping a nipple on her knee (who would do such a thing?!) to smoothing her cellulite.
But it seems in this snap she got a little sloppy with the clone tool, slapping a second banister into the shot for no discernible reason. What exactly happened? And why does one even accomplish such a feat and then think it's a good idea to post the doctored pic to Instagram? She may have tried to cover up the fact that she accentuated her curves, subsequently distorting the wall next to her, but instead of replacing the bent wall with a fresh copy she opened a wormhole to an alternate Photoshop reality.
It just goes to show that for all their fame and fortune the Kardashians are just as likely to screw up Photoshopping their selfies as the rest of us. Oh wait, most of us don't do that. Carry on.
4 Katy Perry And David's Pecker
In addition to kissing a girl and liking it, apparently Katy Perry enjoys chortling like a 12-year-old at the classics, as most of us did when we first found out about Michelangelo's David and his prominent if tiny junk.
LOOK, A WIENER! We get it, Katy, his pee-pee is out.
On the same trip, she also simulated a, er, sex act on the Tower of Pisa, which didn't sit well with some fans. "Wow katie u r setting a bad example for your younger fans who follow u and that is not good think before u post," wrote one. And an Italian fan went so far as to call her an "ignorant American" with her hijinks.
What she did was really no different from what tons of tourists do, just search Instagram for photos taken at Galleria dell’Accademia and you'll see just how often David's junk is memorialized in less-than-tasteful selfies.
3 Robin Thicke Gets Grabby
Back in 2013, singer Robin Thicke was busted grabbing this woman's backside in a truly embarrassing Instagram taken at a VMA after party.
This was back when he was still trying to pretend things were cool between him and his wife Paula Patton. “My only comment about the so-called scandalous photo would be that my wife and I are perfectly in love and very happily married. So, no complaints there," he said to Star magazine shortly after the skin-cident.
Paula filed for divorce a few months later. They'd already been having a pretty unsuccessful "open" marriage prior to this butt-grab, so it likely wasn't the only reason she decided to walk.
2 Lindsay Lohan Defies Architecture
Lindsay Lohan has been a reliable source of embarrassment for years now, but something about this photo is just mindblowingly embarrassing for both her and us.
Perhaps she thought posing near a straight door would help accentuate her curves, or perhaps whoever Photoshopped this disaster was too drunk to see straight and believed those lines behind her were actually straight.
Whatever happened here, it isn't good. The door is both distorted and smudged, as if smudging the evidence would somehow improve this mess. In attempting to slim her thigh, it actually made the calf below it look blocky, as if the calf is the worst part of this. It's all bad.
1 Naomi Campbell Is Happy To See Herself
Posing with a fresh pair of kicks on her hands, Naomi Campbell made a fatal error in summer of 2016, accidentally including boring chit-chat with a PR rep in her ad.
Although the error was quickly caught and the extraneous text removed, it was too late to pretend like it never happened. It seemed she copied the caption directly from the PR person handling her sponsored post, writing: "Naomi, So nice to see you in good spirits!!! Could you put something like: Thanks to my friend @gary.aspden and all at adidas - loving these adidas 350 SPZL from the adidas Spezial range. @adidasoriginals."
Even without the added text from the PR rep we'd all know this was a sponsored advertisement, but did she have to make it so obvious?
It's believed she can make several thousand dollars from a single post, meaning she's laughing all the way to the bank while you judge her for it.
