From the moment the first season of Game of Thrones was released in 2011, audiences were captivated over the world that George R. R. Martin had created. The book series, A Song of Ice and Fire, had already garnered millions of fans, but the HBO adaptation was a way for the characters to truly come to life. People were stunned over the varying twists and turns of the ever-changing plot, and every week seemed to bring on even more viewers. By the time Season 6 came around, the show was at the peak of its popularity, and all of the events seemed to be leading up to a number of prophecies about to come true.
Fans all seem to have their own favorite characters, whether it's Jon Snow or Arya Stark, and the suspense has been mounting for some time over who will ultimately sit on The Iron Throne. There have been a number of people to call themselves King of the Seven Kingdoms since the beginning of the series, but their time has come and gone. It's Cersei Lannister that's currently seated on The Iron Throne, and fans can't seem to wait for when Queen Cersei and The Dragon Queen will finally come to battle. There's a myriad of different events that fans are waiting for as the Game of Thrones series finally comes to an end. Showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss have already stated that Seasons 7 and 8 will be the end of the series, and the episode count will be shorter. Check out our list of the 15 Game of Thrones questions fans want answered in Season 7, and see if your burning question made the list.
15 Is Lady Stoneheart Ever Going To Be Featured In The Series?
Fans of the George R. R. Martin book series, A Song of Ice and Fire, have been wondering whether or not Lady Stoneheart will ever be featured in the HBO Game of Thrones series. She was an amazing character in the books and offered Beric Dondarrion a larger role in the overall storyline. In the book series, it was Dondarrion that brought Catelyn Stark back to life through the power of The Lord of Light, and she was reborn as Lady Stoneheart. Yet, she wasn't exactly as she was and seemed more like a zombie figure with open wounds and a ghost-like exterior. She was hell-bent on avenging her family, and fans of the television series have wondered why she was never featured in Season 6. The new trailer for Season 7 of Game of Thrones has teased a few shots of Beric Dondarrion wielding a flaming sword, and some fans are wondering if Lady Stoneheart will finally make an appearance.
14 Did Selyse See Lady Melisandre When She Wasn’t Wearing The Necklace?
In the season premiere for Season 6 of Game of Thrones, Lady Melisandre was dealing with the fact that her visions weren't interpreted correctly. She was so confident in Stannis Baratheon being "The Prince Who Was Promised," so his failure at The Battle of Winterfell was a huge blow. During the end of the episode, the audience saw what Lady Melisandre looked like without her ruby necklace. The actress that plays her, Carice van Houten, stated in an interview that the character was between "200 to 300" years old, and it definitely looked like it in the scene. Yet, it made fans think about other times when that ruby necklace was featured in the series. Obviously, it allowed her to have special abilities since it began to glow when she drank poisoned wine and survived. Yet, there was a scene where she was in a bathtub without her necklace, and Lady Selyse walked in. It didn't seem like she was seeing her as a centuries-old woman. Fans want to know whether that was just a discrepancy in the series or if that will be explained in Season 7.
13 How Is The Army Of The Dead Going To Get Past The Wall?
While it can be easy to get caught up in the war over who will sit on The Iron Throne, the true war is between the realms of men and the army of the dead. The very first episode of the series showed that the White Walkers had returned but didn't seem to be believed after they hadn't been seen in centuries. The Night's Watch hasn't been given any help from the Crown or any of the Great Houses of Westeros. Season 6 has shown that the war is upon them, and the Hardhome episode was an eye-opening moment for what the realms of men will have to face. Winter has officially arrived, and now, there will inevitably be a fight with the army of the dead. Yet, there is the question about The Wall. Besides it being massive in height, it's supposedly guarded by magic that won't allow the White Walkers to pass. How will this be addressed in the series, and are they even able to make their way to the other side?
12 Will Sansa Fight Jon Snow For The Iron Throne?
When Sansa made her way to The Wall with Brienne of Tarth, she wasn't just a meek and damaged girl who was looking for protection. She was right in the mix of the conversations on how to take back Winterfell, and it was often Sansa who was pushing Jon Snow to unite their bannermen to support House Stark. She was the one that collaborated to bring the Knights of the Veil to their aid, and she's the one that can truly call herself the heir to Winterfell due to Jon Snow's bastard status. Yet, all of that will change with Season 7. The bannermen have declared Jon Snow as the White Wolf and the King in the North, without so much of a mention of Sansa. Also, Bran Stark is still alive and would supersede Sansa as well as Jon Snow. The end of Season 6 showed Littlefinger pushing her to make a play against Jon Snow, and fans want to see if she'll heed his advice.
11 Will Jaime Choose Cersei Or Brienne?
When Jaime Lannister was first introduced to audiences, he didn't seem to have the most likable character. He was known for killing the King he was sworn to protect, he was having an incestuous relationship with his sister, and he pushed a young boy from the window of a tower. Yet, as the series has progressed, he's become one of the favorite characters of the show. He truly loved his brother, he saved Brienne of Tarth even though she had previously kept him as her prisoner, and he gave away his prized Valyrian steel sword in order to bring Arya and Sansa Stark to safety. It seems like the only true flaw he has is that he seems to be completely blinded by love for his sister, Cersei. Yet, things may have changed since he looked extremely disappointed after learning that she was the one behind the destruction of the Great Sept of Baelor. Fans want to know if he'll still be under her spell or if he'll ultimately fall into a relationship with Brienne of Tarth.
10 Will Arya Survive On Her Own?
When Arya Stark had to escape King's Landing after the death of her father, she didn't exactly go on her own. Yoren was collecting men for The Night's Watch and took her under his protection. Yet, it wasn't long before she became a prisoner for the Lannister army and then again with The Brotherhood without Banners. Her final travel companion was The Hound, who saved her on more than one occasion. If he hadn't dragged her away from The Twins, she would have most likely been killed by House Frey, and there were a number of roadside run-ins that would have ended in her death had The Hound not been with her. Now that she's returned to Westeros, fans are wondering whether or not she'll be able to survive completely on her own.
9 What Will Happen To Benjen Stark?
Benjen Stark was one of the biggest reasons why Jon Snow even joined The Night's Watch in the first place. Eddard Stark claimed that House Stark has manned The Wall for thousands of years and made it seem like it was an honorable position. Jon Snow found out that it wasn't anything like he'd imagined, but he was still content knowing that he would be there with his Uncle Benjen. Yet, Benjen had to leave beyond The Wall as First Ranger. He hasn't been back to The Wall ever since, but he did help Meera and Bran on their journey. It would be interesting to see what his role will be in Season 7 since he was helped by the Children of the Forest.
8 Will Arya Ever Reunite With Jon Snow?
When the Game of Thrones series first began, the main focus of the series highlighted House Stark and the family dynamic revolving around the bastard son, Jon Snow. While it was obvious that there was an extremely difficult relationship between him and Catelyn Stark, the rest of the people at Winterfell seemed legitimately loving towards him. He had a particularly close relationship with Arya and encouraged her interests in sword fighting. He was the one that had her sword forged at Winterfell, and Needle is still one of Arya's most prized possessions. With her returning to Westeros, fans of the series are dying to see Arya and Jon Snow reunite. Arya has been away from family for so long, and it would be so nice to see these two join forces.
7 Will Everyone Find Out About Jon Snow Being A Targaryen?
Ever since the beginning of the series, Jon Snow has had to deal with the fact that he was known as the bastard of Winterfell. He had a horrible relationship with Catelyn Stark because she felt that he was a constant reminder of her husband's infidelity. He was also looked down on by anyone that asked his name, and he never had a legitimate claim to the inheritance of House Stark. Yet, Bran's flashback scenes to Lyanna Stark changed everything since it was revealed that Jon Snow is not Ned Stark's bastard child. Instead, he is the son of Rhaegar Targaryen and Lyanna Stark. Bran may be privy to this information, but that doesn't mean that it will ever make its way to all the other Great Houses of Westeros. Fans are hoping that nothing happens to Bran before he can spread the word about Jon Snow's true parents.
6 Can Brandon Stark Change The Past?
One of the best elements of Season 6 of Game of Thrones was the fact that fans were able to see some of the past events that made a huge influence over the current events. With the help of the Three-Eyed Raven, Bran was able to see his father when he was young at Winterfell. He also saw quick images of The Mad King, his fall from the tower and the death of Lyanna Stark. Yet, the most interesting scene was when he saw his father and Jojen fight The Sword of the Morning outside the tower holding Lyanna Stark. When Bran shouted after his father, it appeared that he had heard him. Although the Three-Eyed Raven claimed "the past has already been written," fans were left wondering whether or not Bran could actually go back in time and change the future.
5 Will Arya Ever Reunite With Nymeria?
In A Song of Ice and Fire, it wasn't just Bran Stark that had the ability to warg. In fact, fans of the book series often remark on how great Arya's role is through her direwolf, Nymeria. The Game of Thrones series showed that Arya forced Nymeria to flee Winterfell after the attack on Joffrey, but the book series went on to show Arya seeing through the eyes of her direwolf. Nymeria became a huge leader of a pack of direwolves, and there was a monumental moment when Arya saw her mother's dead body through the eyes of her direwolf. She completely trusted the vision and must have known that she was actually seeing this through Nymeria's eyes. This warg ability was like a characteristic of House Stark but hasn't made its way into the series. It will be interesting to see if this will be featured or if Nymeria will never be mentioned again.
4 Will Arya Ever Reunite With The Hound?
The Hound is one of the most complex characters in the series since he can't be characterized as completely good or completely evil. People have a huge sense of sympathy for him due to the violent nature of his older brother, The Mountain, and he's had a number of redeeming moments. Yet, Arya thought of him as someone worthy of being on her kill list. She wanted to avenge the death of her friend, the baker's boy, which The Hound rode down after the attack on Joffrey. Yet, things began to change once the two started making their way to Edmure Tully's wedding. While he was initially only looking for financial gain in returning her to her family, he soon became her protector and travel companion. Fans were shocked to learn that The Hound survived the brutal fight with Brienne of Tarth, and now, there's a burning question as to whether or not she'll reunite with him in Season 7.
3 Will Daenerys Battle Euron Greyjoy On The Sea?
When Balon Greyjoy was killed by his brother, Euron, it seemed to come out of nowhere. A brother that hadn't ever been featured or mentioned in the series had all of a sudden returned and thrown Balon off of a bridge. While it would just be assumed that his son, Theon, would become the new Lord of the Iron Islands, his castration puts precedence into question. It seemed like Yara was going to become the first ever Queen of the Iron Islands until Euron was able to convince everyone that he was the better leader. Euron's plan is to build a hundred ships and make his way across The Narrow Sea to marry The Dragon Queen. Yet, she had already made a pact with Theon and Yara, and Season 6 portrayed them out on the open water. Fans can't wait to see if there will be a battle out on the open water, especially since the Season 7 trailer teased dragon fire demolishing a ship's mast.
2 Will Tyrion Ever Find Love?
The underlying story behind Tyrion Lannister's character was the traumatic experience of losing his virginity and marrying without his father's permission. The book series went into great detail over Tysha, the girl that was saved from being raped and then went on to marry Tyrion. Yet, there was a twist in the story since it was later revealed that she wasn't truly a whore that Jaime paid and was, in fact, just a young girl that was later given to his father's men after he had learned of their marriage. Tyrion was again unlucky in love when he married Sansa because she left with Dontos when they were finally starting to make a connection. Yet, Shae was the ultimate betrayal since she testified against him in court and then was found in his father's bed. Fans want to know whether or not he will ever find a love of his own or if he'll make an attempt to truly win Sansa's heart.
1 Who Will Ride The Dragons?
The Game of Thrones series started with the world knowing that there were no more dragons living in the world. The bones of old dragons were seen in King's Landing, and stories of past Targaryens riding their dragons were often told as history lessons. Yet, all of that changed once the three dragons were hatched by Daenerys Targaryen. The prophecy of the dragon having three heads has caused many to speculate on who will be the others to ride the dragons. There are a number of predictions, with some stating that Jon Snow and Tyrion Lannister will be the ones to ride alongside Daenerys. It has already been revealed that Jon Snow is actually the son of Rhaegar Targaryen, and there are rumors that Tyrion Lannister may be the product of Joanna Lannister having sexual relations with Aerys Targaryen. Yet, there are others that speculate that it will be Arya Stark to ride the other dragon. Fans are hoping that Season 7 will show audiences the meaning of "the dragon has three heads" prophecy.
