15 Characters Most Likely To Die In The Last Jedi

The Last Jedi is just two months away, and the hype is getting bigger and bigger. The highly anticipated follow-up to The Force Awakens is bound to be the biggest movie of 2018 by a very wide margin. We don't know much about the movie because Disney has been heavily guarding the secrets of the film. While the final trailer seemed liked it was very spoilerish, it's very likely that it contained a lot of misdirection. Will Rey turn dark? Will Kylo Ren turn good? Will Kylo Ren kill Leia? The trailer made it seem like all of this was likely to happen, but it could just be tricking us.

There is bound to be some big twist or shocking reveal like we saw in The Force Awakens. Han Solo was killed by his son, Kylo Ren, in The Force Awakens. Many people predicted this would happen, but for others, it was a huge shock. We can expect that something similar might happen in The Last Jedi. There are going to be some deaths, for sure, which will make Episode IX even more interesting. We might even see another major character die. Do you think any of the returning characters will die? Maybe one of the new characters will die? Who do you think is going to bite the dust in The Last Jedi? What does Rian Johnson have up his sleeve? Here are the 15 characters most likely to die in The Last Jedi.

15 Rey

via screenrant

Would Disney be able to pull off something as shocking as this? Would they really kill off the main character of this new trilogy so quickly after introducing her? While it seems unlikely, it's not like it could never happen. If Lucasfilm wanted to do something really different and shake things up, then this would be the way to do it. Rey is going to face a lot of struggle in The Last Jedi.

Luke is very reluctant to train her, and Kylo may lure her to the dark side of the force. She will face off against Supreme Leader Snoke, and that could certainly be the end of her. If Snoke is trying to lure her to the dark side and she won't give in, then Snoke could certainly kill her out of frustration. Rey is the biggest long shot for who might die in the film, but with Star Wars, anything could happen.

14 General Hux

via starwars.com

General Hux clearly has ambition to rise up the ranks of the First Order. Even though he reports to Kylo Ren, the pair are rarely on the same page. The parallels between Hux and Kylo and Vader and Tarkin in the original trilogy are clearly evident. Hux could certainly die in The Last Jedi if he gets on the wrong side of Kylo Ren's temper, but he could also bite the dust during the epic battle between the resistance and the first order that takes place on Crait during the events of The Last Jedi.

General Hux may sense that Kylo Ren might turn to the light side and abandon the First Order, and this could put him in even more danger. Domhnall Glesson is set to return for Star Wars: Episode IX. So, unless that's a false flag or flashbacks, we think that General Hux dying in The Last Jedi is possible, but it's still fairly unlikely.

13 Maz Kanata

via starwars.com

At nearly 1000 years old, can Maz Kanata survive much longer? Maz is clearly a powerful and force sensitive character, and she's very much like Yoda, who is her counterpart from the original trilogy. If Star Wars: The Last Jedi follows a similar path to Return of the Jedi, then we might see Maz Kanata die. However, we know so little about Maz, and so much of her backstory is mysterious that we doubt Rian Johnson would want to see such an interesting character killed off so quickly.

Maz's role in The Last Jedi will be small, but her actions may put her in danger of dying. She is going to help Finn and Rose infiltrate the First Order, and since the First Order already know who Finn is, that is an extremely dangerous mission. By helping Rose and Finn prepare for this hazardous mission, she might be inadvertently putting herself in harm's way.

12 Captain Phasma

via screenrant

Captain Phasma is definitely returning in The Last Jedi. You may have been fooled and thought she died in The Force Awakens when she was thrown in the trash compactor of Starkiller Base by Han Solo and Finn. However, there is a chance she may die for good in The Last Jedi. The comic book series Captain Phasma: Journey to The Last Jedi showed how Phasma used her wits to escape the implosion of Starkiller Base, but she may not be so lucky in The Last Jedi. The cast of villains is quickly becoming overcrowded in the new Star Wars trilogy, so it would make sense to see her killed off.

She might die at the hands of Luke, or maybe Finn will finish the job. She is set to have an epic showdown with her old rival, Finn. The latest trailer for The Last Jedi showed Phasma battling Finn on a First Order Star Destroyer as their surroundings went up in flames. She is sporting a brand new spear-like weapon as she faces off against Finn and his electric baton.

11 Rose

via screenrant.com

Rose Tico is one of the new characters being introduced in The Last Jedi. We don't know much about her yet, other than she will be infiltrating the First Order with Finn and that she may be a possible love interest for him. Would Disney take the risk of killing off a brand new character and the first Asian character in the main Star Wars film series? It's unlikely, but Rose will be undertaking such a treacherous mission that it is certainly a possibility. We didn't see her in the new trailer for The Last Jedi at all. Perhaps that means she will meet a terrible fate early on in her appearance.

10 Luke Skywalker

via screenrant

The original place for this new trilogy was to have each new film focus on one character from the classic series. The Force Awakens was Han Solo's story, and The Last Jedi is Luke Skywalker's story. Since Han died at the hands of his own son, Kylo Ren, in The Force Awakens, we can assume that Luke will meet a similar end in The Last Jedi. However, the real-life death of Carrie Fisher meant that rewrites had to be done on Episode IX.

Episode IX was supposed to be Leia's story, but since General Leia will be mostly absent from Episode IX, it's very possible that Luke will stick around until Episode IX instead. These rewrites mean that the chances of Luke dying in the Last Jedi has decreased significantly.

9 General Leia

via screenrant

The Last Jedi is believed to be Carrie Fisher's final on-screen appearance. Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy, has said that Carrie Fisher's likeness will not be recreated digitally in Episode IX like it was in Rogue One, so that means she could possibly die off screen in The Last Jedi. It would be very tasteless to recreate Fisher's likeness digitally so soon after her death, but killing off her character might be just as tasteless.

The other option is that she could reappear using old footage in Episode IX, but Kennedy has said that Leia won't appear in the film at all. Still, with Episode IX being delayed, receiving a new director in J.J. Abrams, and being rewritten, anything is possible. The new revelations and Fisher's death leads us to believe that the chances of Leia dying in The Last Jedi are quite high.

8 Poe Dameron

via screenrant

A description next to a costume on display at Comic Con this year revealed some interesting information about Poe Dameron's role in The Last Jedi. A description next to a display of his flight suit said that his foolish and brash actions will take their toll on both the First Order and the Resistance. It's very possible that he will do something reckless and get himself killed in an outer-space dogfight against First Order TIE fighter pilots. The Last Jedi Trailer certainly showed him in grave danger, and he has always had a risky attitude towards taking on his enemies.

7 Kylo Ren

via http://starwars.wikia.com/

A main character like Kylo Ren dying in The Last Jedi would be a huge shock, especially considering that Kylo Ren is the second lead of the movie series after Rey. If Kylo Ren does turn to the light side and redeem himself as many have suspected, then it would make sense that he would die. After all, his grandfather and idol Darth Vader died after redeeming himself by killing the Emperor in Return of the Jedi. It would be very fitting if Kylo Ren had a redemption arc and death the same way as Darth Vader did.

However, you would think that the filmmakers would save an event like this for Episode IX. There are multiple ways Kylo Ren could die in The Last Jedi. If Luke also turns evil as some have predicted, then expect Kylo Ren to die in The Last Jedi and Luke to be the main baddie for Episode IX. This would be an Empire Strikes Back level twist, but the chances of it happening are higher than you might think. The other possibility is that Snoke kills Kylo Ren after he turns good. Kylo Ren could try to Kill Snoke just as Vader killed the Emperor in Return of the Jedi. However, the outcome might not be the same. Snoke is likely too powerful and could easily kill Kylo Ren.

6 Supreme Leader Snoke

via http://starwars.wikia.com/

We still have no idea who Supreme Leader Snoke is, and we don't know anything about his backstory. All we know is that he is the leader of the First Order and that he won't have that big of a role in The Last Jedi. There are some insane theories about the identity of this mystery character, who is played by Andy Serkis. Some think he is Darth Vader reincarnated. The most likely scenario is that he's Darth Plagueis or a brand new character heavily based on Darth Plagueis.

But how could this extremely powerful villain possibly die? Well, if Luke has secretly been in contact with Snoke and if Luke does indeed turn to the dark side, then perhaps he will overthrow Snoke to lead the First Order. Even if Luke doesn't turn to the dark side, then perhaps he will simply kill Snoke for luring his former pupil, Kylo Ren, to the dark side.

5 Paige Tico

via twitter

Paige is the sister of Rose Tico, who is also making her debut appearance in the Star Wars universe. These two sisters will both appear in Star Wars: The Last Jedi, and there is speculation that Paige will be a higher-ranking official in the Resistance. However, Rose is a main character and will have much more screen time. With Paige being a minor character, the chances of her dying in The Last Jedi are actually very high. Her death may just be the catapult that Rose needs to further her loyalty to the Resistance.

4 Nien Nunb

via starwars.com

Nien Nunb has been a part of the Star Wars franchise since the very beginning. He was part of the Rebel Alliance in the original trilogy, and he made a return appearance in The Force Awakens. He is also set to return in The Last Jedi, and this space pilot could very likely die in the upcoming sequel. The fact that he is a minor and returning character makes the odds of him dying in some sort of battle skyrocket. We'd say the chances of Nien Nunb finally meeting his end in The Last Jedi are very, very high. We will be sad to see this cute side character meet his end, but war always has casualties.

3 Admiral Ackbar

via starwars.com

Admiral Ackbar has seen many epic battles in his day. He was part of the resistance team who helped take down the Starkiller Base, and he also helped destroy the second Death Star. He is an old and seasoned military expert. Because he is a classic returning character and because of his military experience, we think it's very likely that Admiral Ackbar will die in The Last Jedi.

The trailers for the film show an epic space battle where the First Order is attacking a fleet of X-wings, A-wings, Y-wings, Mon Calamari cruisers, and resistance bombers. It's very likely that Ackbar could die in this ensuing battle despite being a brilliant military strategist. Longtime voice actor Erik Bauersfeld, who voiced Ackbar in The Force Awakens and Return of the Jedi, died last year. So, it would make sense to retire Ackbar in the new film series and make way for new alien creatures to join the resistance.

2 Vice Admiral Holdo

via screenrant.com

Vice Admiral Holdo is yet another new character that is being introduced in The Last Jedi. She will be portrayed by Laura Dern, and the fact that she is such a high-ranking official in the Resistance means that the First Order will be out to get her. She may very well be a replacement for General Leia and end up having a larger role in Episode IX, which may have originally been intended for Leia.

However, we suspect that Holdo will likely meet her end in the upcoming film. She has been described as being a bit wacky, and this weird character trait might end up being her undoing in The Last Jedi. If she can't think clearly and is a bit of an oddball, then perhaps she will be taken down by the First Order because of her foolishness. Only time will tell, but we think it's likely that she won't make it out of The Last Jedi alive.

1 DJ

via screenrant

DJ is another main character being introduced in Star Wars: The Last Jedi. He is a pirate-type arms dealer who is neither on the side of the Resistance nor the First Order. This new character will be played by Benicio del Toro, and so far, very little is known about his background or history. There are some theories about this character. Some believe that he is actually Ezra Bridger, who is the main character on Star Wars: Rebels. However, that is most likely wishful thinking by fans. We might never find out who DJ really is because it's likely that this new character will actually die in The Last Jedi.

There is speculation that he is going to go against both the resistance and the First Order. Not wanting to join either side may put him at serious risk. If he doesn't obey the First Order, he will be seen as a criminal and traitor. And if he doesn't join the resistance, then who exactly is going to protect him?
