It’s 2017 and the discussion about one’s “orientation” is about as open as ever. It can be said that in this day and age less and less people care about what other individuals are into in regards to their “personal preferences.” With all that said, if you’re a celebrity or star of some kind, whether it’s appropriate or whether it’s liked or not, there will always be curiosity about your personal affairs. You know there are those pop culture personalities that always figure out a way to draw attention to themselves. Even in today's "PC era" there's no doubt that if news about an A-list star broke about their "orientation" it would still be one of the first topics trending worldwide. Some celebrities don’t care and are an open book about their beliefs and preferences. Other celebrities decide to be more private and would rather have their personal lives "leaked". In fact, there’s a fair amount of celebrities who have been accused of leaking fake personas and fake public profiles in order to hide their true nature from the judgement of the all-seeing public eye. So here are the stars that grace the big and small screens, the Internet, the music videos, and the media, who have been accused of hiding the true nature of their sexuality.

15. That's So Raven aka Raven-Symoné

Now, we know the That’s So Raven and The Cosby Show superstar prefers women, but it wasn’t always like that. There were rumors about Raven’s orientation all throughout her career. She would always brush them off stating that her personal life was no one’s business. The TV and music star denied rumors going back as far as 2008. The rumor mill spilled over with sources claiming that she was cozying up to AzMarie Livingston within the confines of her lavish NYC condo. News broke about her family denouncing her “preference” furthering The Cheetah Girls star to stand firm on how her business remains her business. Raven, who burst onto the scene as The Cosby Show’s 3-year-old cutie Olivia Kendall, vented on Twitter saying, “However that is my right as a HUMAN BEING whether straight or gay. To tell or not to tell… As long as I’m not harming anyone.” Symone eventually officially announced her “orientation” once she opened up about same-sex marriages being accepted throughout the country.

14. Bane aka Tom Hardy

Tom Hardy has had a hell of a run as of late. He was spotted on the pop culture radar after his acclaimed role in Bronson. He gained further fame with roles in Inception, played the memorable role of Bane in Christopher Nolan’s final Batman film, The Dark Knight Rises and was Max in the Oscar Nominated Mad Max: Fury Road. That said, anyone that knows about Tom Hardy knows that he simply doesn’t give a sh*t. He has no problems telling people what’s on his mind. He faced rumors and accusations despite being married to Charlotte Riley. “I’m an actor for f*ck’s sake. I’ve played with everything and everyone.” The full quote features Hardy talking about how he has feminine qualities, how he’s experimented, and how he loves the ‘form and the physicality.' Hardy’s expressive and explicit words were cited as being taken out of context by sources.

13. Zoe Saldana

Zoe Saldana is known for being one of the most talented, beautiful women in Hollywood. She’s been at the forefront of tabloid reports of her being a lesbian, despite having public romantic relationships with the opposite sex. The Avatar, Star Trek, and Guardians of the Galaxy star has made a name for her herself kicking all kinds of ass in roles that can be considered as promoting female empowerment. One thing everyone can seem to agree on is that Ms. Saldana is incredibly hot… So male fans were either celebratory or equally mournful when reports streamed in about Zoe’s true sexual preferences. Her response?

“People have sometimes told my grandmother, ‘your granddaughter has a bit of lesbianism in her'… It’s that my sisters and I spent all our time among men. We were very popular with them.”

As one can read, comments like that in today’s fast paced report-by-the-minute age, quotes can easily be taken out of context.

12. Wolverine aka Hugh Jackman

Wolverine himself has faced accusations about his orientation as well. This is actually a little bit of a surprise considering when Hugh Jackman originally broke through with this iconic X-Men role, most of the news regarding his personal life revolved around how his wife, Deborra-Lee Furness preferred him to go to bed with her while he was dressed in his Wolverine costume. The Logan star faced rumors despite being a married man; enough rumors to have it bother his wife. One of those rumors was based off a photo of Jackman holding hands with a man while they were walking on a beach, courtesy of the website Prettyontheoutside, years ago. He claimed his wife was annoyed with the rumors saying “She goes: It’s big. It’s everywhere.” Jackman immediately went on the record to praise the unholy hell out of his wife and one of his co-workers, producer Lauren Shuler Donner rejected the rumors as well, further adding she’s never seen him with anyone else on set over the 5 times they’ve worked on movies together.

11. Hannah Montana aka Miley Cyrus

This really isn’t surprising considering Miley Cyrus became “Wiley” Cyrus back in 2013 and embarked on a mission to show how grown up she was. The Hannah Montana superstar amped up her look, cutting off her long locks, going with short blonde hair, and thus making everyone question her sexuality in the process. The singer-actor has always been an advocate for LGBT rights, but it was during this distinct period where she came across a lot of rumors regarding her sexual orientation. Cyrus responded to all of the them in an interview with the Toronto Sun, denouncing the accusations:

“Everyone said I was a lesbian but I’m like, ‘Being a lesbian isn’t a bad thing'. So if you think I look like I’m a lesbian, I’m not offended. You can call me much worse…I’ve been called much worse. Being a lesbian is a compliment more than what else they call me.”

10. Hulk Hogan

Yes. The star of Hogan Knows Best. The “Babe Ruth” of Pro Wrestling. The biggest name in professional wrestling history. The leader of the NWO. Eat your vitamins and say your prayers, brother— you get the point. Hulk Hogan has been at the forefront of a lot of controversy and tabloid fodder over the last decade of his life. However, when the source is an ex-wife, you know that’s when people are going to wonder. Hogan’s ex-wife Linda, claimed that the Hulkster had an affair with Brutus “The Barber” Beefcake back in the day. The thing is, Hogan didn’t flat out deny anything, instead he decided to air out the laundry on The Wendy Williams Show. Hogan stated, "It's tough because a lot of my friends in normal life, a lot of my friends in the entertainment business, and a lot of my friends in the wrestling business are gay," he told Williams.

"Just to say something spiteful and hurtful, I don’t get it... if it was true and I was gay, I’d embrace it, and I’d tell you guys about it and I’d celebrate it."

9. Oprah

The queen of talk, the icon, the first Black woman billionaire, the owner of OWN... Oprah Winfrey has been the subject of numerous orientation rumors over the years; notably due to her "girlmance" with fellow famous personality Gayle King. There have even been rumors of a love triangle between Oprah, the oft mentioned Stedman, and Ms. King. Oprah eventually confronted the long standing rumors during a 2012 interview with Barbara Walters. Oprah stated, “I’m not even kind of a lesbian. And the reason why [the rumor] irritates me is because it means that somebody must think I’m lying. That’s No. 1. No. 2… why would you want to hide it? That is not the way I run my life.”

The TV personality made it clear that there was no “friction” whatsoever between her and her longtime TV anchor friend. One has to wonder how Oprah’s even more long time, on and off partner Stedman Graham feels about the consistency of the rumors.

8. Dominic Toretto aka Vin Diesel

Believe it or not, the uber-macho Vin Diesel has been at the forefront of orientation rumors for a while. The Fast and the Furious star has made a career of being the ultimate badass, so any news of him breaking away from his perceived sexuality would no doubt cause waves throughout mainstream media. Meanwhile one has to wonder, with all those masculine roles and with the fanfare from millions of women everywhere, where and when did the rumors start? Vin Diesel opts to go by the traditional, old school route of not mentioning his personal life whenever he was asked to do so. Diesel offered some interesting insight into his world of relationships, explaining that he came from the Harrison Ford, Marlon Brando, Robert De Niro, and Al Pacino “code of silence.” The Furious actor always mentioned that he prefers to date in Europe due to not being as recognized there. Nonetheless, the verdict has yet to come out as to whether or not he’s hiding his orientation away from the public eye.

7. Kate Hudson

Kate Hudson is no doubt known as one of the hottest ladies in modern day Hollywood. The daughter of Goldie Hawn didn’t really spawn any orientation rumors until out of nowhere tabloids claimed that Hudson had engaged in a smoky affair with someone of the same sex. This accusation happened when the actress was photographed having a very close intimate conversation with a very attractive woman. The rumor mill began and it reached such heights to where Hudson actually had a friend asking if she was living with other women now. Hudson had been single for the first time in a while and enjoying the single life, further fuelling the fire of lesbian speculation. Kate has been involved with fellow celebrities like Owen Wilson, Dax Shepard, and (the now disgraced) Lance Armstrong. Kate caught wind of all of the rumors and made sure to immediately shut them all down, vehemently stating that she is only into men.

6. Puff Daddy, aka Diddy, aka P.Diddy, aka Sean "Puffy" Combs

Diddy. Puffy. Puff Daddy. Sean John Combs. Sean Combs. However you want to refer to him he’s currently the richest man in a multi-billion dollar genre and he’s also had rumors circulate about his sexual orientation for years. There are many examples of accusations to choose from. There are videos that have had rumor sites and fellow rapper call Puff Daddy's sexual preferences into question. TV Host Wendy Williams outed Diddy’s orientation as far back as 1998, when she was a DJ for NYC’s popular HOT 97 FM; she was kicked off air. There was also a case where P. Diddy and fellow mogul Baby of Cash Money looked to be very smitten with each other; Puffy kissed him on the cheek. Rapper Xzibit was interviewed and claimed that Sean "Puffy" Combs took him to a gay club. There have also been “accusations” from pop culture personality Josh Ostrovsky aka “The Fat Jew.” Ostrovsky claimed he got kicked out of a room where Puff Daddy, another rapper, and more men were spooning while drinking Hennessy. Josh was kicked out and to this day claims he’s telling the truth… True or false? You be the judge.

5. Selena Gomez

The Disney channel star-turned movie star and music star's romantic life has mostly been known for her extremely high profile relationship with fellow superstar Justin Bieber. Once they split, rumors got hot and heavy regarding Gomez’s activities with model-turned -actor Cara Delevingne. Gomez, who was 23 at the time, opened up about the rumors during an interview with PrideSource, which is an LGBT outlet. Selena gushed about the future Suicide Squad star, who helped Gomez usher in her 22nd birthday back in 2014. The rumors ignited after the two were photographed showering together while partying on a yacht located at St. Tropez.

“She’s incredible and very open and she just makes me open… She’s so fun and she’s just extremely adventurous, and sometimes I just want that in my life,” said Gomez. She further told the LGBT site that she has definitely questioned her sexuality, further noting that she loved the gay buzz.

4. Harry Potter aka Daniel Radcliffe

Yes, "‘Arry Pot’er" himself has been accused of hiding his orientation as well. Everyone knows that the former Harry Potter star has been dating Erin Darke, but that hasn’t stopped anyone from accusing the 26-year-old Radcliffe of hiding what’s really up. The British actor is actually an outspoken advocate for LGBT rights. He’s worked with the Trevor Project, which is a nonprofit organization that offers suicide prevention services to lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender youth. The rumors heated up enough for the actor to address them.

“If people want to say that they can,” Radcliffe said, about the continuous rumors, including reading a comment that said he had a “gay face.” “But I’m not. I’m straight,” he added.

Even as the world and mainstream media seems more and more open by the day of embracing everything LGBT, make no mistake about it, any news leaking of Harry Potter with the opposite sex would break the internet.

3. Bella Swan aka Kristen Stewart

Kristen Stewart gained worldwide adulation and fame for playing Bella Swan in the blockbuster Twilight franchise. Anyone who has any knowledge of the best-selling books-turned-mega-franchise knows that Stewart playing such a part with her equally hot co-star Robert Pattinson meant that her partner destiny was locked right? Yeah… Kristen and Robert endured dating rumors over the course of their time with the series, and Kristen has been documented as dating other men. None of that stopped the rumors of her true “orientation” spreading which began to foster in 2009 from various gossip sites after she said, “We are. We aren’t. I’m a lesbian” when confronting rumors about her and her then Twilight co-star’s apparent relationship. Well, there’s no doubt the media decided to run with it and Stewart went about her business— until later deciding to be straight up about her true “orientation” with her latest high profile relationships slash Stephanie Sokolinski (aka Soko) and Alicia Cargile. Kristen confirmed her stance on an episode of Saturday Night Live.

2. Tom Cruise

We all know that Tom Cruise has been involved in some pretty high profile relationships, notably with Nicole Kidman and most recently Katie Holmes. The Mission: Impossible, Top Gun, Risky Business star and Scientology enthusiast has faced rumors about his orientation for most if not all of his career in the spotlight. The movie icon actually won a $10 million default judgment back in 2003 in a case that involved a gay adult film actor who claimed to have relations with Cruise— it doesn’t stop there. Two years prior, Cruise sued Michael Davis, a publisher based out of LA, for a whopping $100 million after Michael claimed to have possession of a videotape of Tom engaging with him in some rather explicit acts. It turns out that the case was later dropped with Davis eventually saying that Cruise was never gay and never had a homosexual affair. And we all know about Tom’s mid-2000s love exploits… Suspicious? You be the judge.

1. Whoopi Goldberg

For anyone who knows who Whoopi Goldberg is, this shouldn’t come as a surprise. The Oscar winning movie star and The View co-host has faced reports of being a lesbian for most of her career despite having high profile relationships with the likes of Ted Danson in the early 90s; she’s also been married three times. In spite of all of that, rumors persisted long enough for the star to comment about it in a New York Times interview in 2006. She described herself as not being a lesbian and went on to say she was straight and felt it was hard to have good relationships with anyone. It's such ignorant comments, which obviously leave the door open for the ever-so-present rumor mill. Nonetheless, Whoopi is an LGBT activist, lobbying for the heterosexual and LGBT communities to come together. She’s been an advocate for LGBT rights since the 1980s. Now come on people; it’s totally possible for people to support LGBT rights and not be gay at all. Unfortunately we haven’t gotten to a point where the media doesn’t care, maybe that will change some day.
