There are several moments in your life that you probably wish you could have done differently. You can also hope that your biggest mistakes in your life are things that haven't become public knowledge. Celebrities are rarely afforded such privileges as privacy. Which means when they screw up, it has the potential to become a much bigger deal.
And considering all of the moments that we're about to talk about really should have cost them their career, you better believe these celebrities regret the moments below. While you may know some of the stories, the photos and details included are still enough to shock you.
We also have others that if the public had been a little bit more aware of, their careers would look very different. Such as Jim Carrey giving his ex-lover 3 STIs, who then killed herself, Mark Wahlberg's racist abuse and Mike Tyson beating up 7 hookers during a drug and alcohol binge.
This list will make you lose some respect for some of your favorite entertainers including Jimmy Page, Steve Austin, and Shia LaBeouf, but that will make it all the more entertaining.
15 Tracy Morgan Said He'd Kill His Son If He Was Gay
Tracy Morgan earned a tremendous amount of sympathy when in 2014 he was involved in a six-vehicle crash that led to the death of Morgan's mentor and fellow comedian, James McNair.
But it's amazing his career was still going after you read the comments he made in 2011 regarding homosexuals,
"Gays need to quit being p***ies and not be whining about something as insignificant as bullying," and when asked what he would do if his son was gay, Morgan said
"He better talk to me like a man and not in a gay voice or I'll pull out a knife and stab that little n***er to death."
A spokesperson for Morgan admitted that he had used extremely poor judgment.
14 Mel Gibson Said His Ex-Wife Deserved To Be Assaulted
When you think of controversies around Mel Gibson, your mind might immediately go to his racist drunken rant from a few years ago. But what may be even more despicable was tapes that were released that included Gibson telling his now ex-wife, Oksana Grigorieva, that she deserved to be r*ped.
"You look like a (expletive) b*tch in heat, and if you get r*ped by a pack of (N-word), it will be your fault. You provoked it. You are provocatively dressed," screamed Gibson at Grigorieva.
That's not even kind of an okay thing to say, and when asked to defend himself Gibson said
“You have to put it all in the proper context of being in an irrationally, heated discussion at the height of a breakdown."
While he also denied the allegations that he hit her, Grigorieva also had Gibson arrested on a battery charge.
13 Terrence Howard Tried To Throw His Ex-Wife Off A Balcony
Terrence Howard's first marriage had some serious issues, but none was worse than when Howard kicked the door down and punched her several times. His second marriage was even worse and included him threatening his then-wife Michelle Ghent several times, including once with a butcher knife, trying to throw her off a balcony and beating her.
Their relationship did not last, but they tried to re-kindle things several years later which led to Howard beating her again as well as choking her.
We suppose his constant pattern makes this more than "one moment" though!
12 Dr. Dre Severely Beat Dee Barnes After A Negative Interview
Musicians definitely care a lot about how they are perceived in public. Following Ice Cube's departure of N.W.A, he conducted an interview with reporter Dee Barnes.
The interview, understandably, did not paint Dr. Dre in the best light. When Dre later ran into Barnes, the following happened:
"He picked her up by her hair and began slamming her head and the right side of her body repeatedly against a brick wall near the stairway as his bodyguard held off the crowd with a gun. After Dre tried to throw her down the stairs and failed, he began kicking her in the ribs and hands. She escaped and ran into the women’s rest room. Dre followed her and grabbed her from behind by the hair again and proceeded to punch her in the back of the head."
Dre later downplayed the incident saying,
"Somebody f*ck with me, I’m gonna f*ck with them. I just did it, you know. Ain’t nothing you can do now by talking about it. Besides, it ain’t no big thing—I just threw her through a door."
11 Johnny Depp Assaulted Amber Heard
There are plenty of people in the world who are huge fans of Johnny Depp. But there is perhaps an even more vocal majority that isn't so quick to forgive him after it became evident (at least in their eyes) that he had physically abused his now ex-wife, Amber Heard.
The allegations while dominating the tabloid news for a while, definitely don't seem to have slowed Depp's career. Especially because he was announced in the Fantastic Beasts franchise not long after the news broke. Not to mention his latest Pirates film while a critical flop, still did well at the box office.
10 Jim Carrey Knowingly Gave Lover 3 STIs And Later Took Her Own Life
Jim Carrey had an on-again, off-again relationship with Cathrriona White that ended horrifically. It was reported back in 2016 that Carrey had infected White with 3 different STIs: Herpes, Chlamydia and Hepatitis A.
When he was asked about it by White, he denied it could have been from him and said it was perhaps someone else. White's lawyers made the argument that Carrey was well aware of his positive status but went ahead with the sexual conduct anyway.
White later committed suicide. In a draft of her suicide note, White wrote "Jim Carrey my blood is on your hands. And I hope you learn that you are not god....You destroyed my body. Which in turn destroyed my mind and self-worth."
9 Shia LaBeouf Told Cop He's Going To Hell For Being Black
Shia LaBeouf has several moments that he may not be the proudest of. This includes several moments where he has found himself arrested. The most recent however may be the biggest black mark on his career. Following an arrest for public drunkenness, LaBeouf proceeded to tell the black officer that was arresting him that he is going to go to hell because he's black.
When the white officer intervened and said being black doesn't mean you're going to hell, LaBeouf responded: "It means a whole lot, bro."
8 Mike Tyson Attacked 7 Street Workers In Drug-Alcohol Binge
Mike Tyson is one of the most talented boxers of all-time, but he's spent millions of dollars over his career on illegal substances. When he started making his name in Hollywood as an actor due to his role in The Hangover, Tyson was still using cocaine including during the shooting and later admitted he only took the role to fuel his addiction.
But the most shocking moment that if it became public would have stopped everything in 2009, the same year The Hangover was released.
In an interview, Tyson revealed that while under the influence of several substances that he became paranoid and thought the 7 hookers that he had in his hotel room were trying to rob him. So he beat the sh*t out of them and kicked them out. The story didn't break until 2012, but you can imagine it would have been a huge deal had the story gone public sooner.
7 Mark Wahlberg Was A Racist A-Hole Who Beat Several People
Now to be fair, we suppose Mark Wahlberg didn't really have a career when this happened. But you still may be horrified to hear that at the age of 16, Wahlberg beat a Vietnamese man with a wooden stick until he was unconscious and then later that day, beat another Vietnamese man who he believed he had blinded after sucker-punching him.
It was clear after he was arrested that his actions were racially motivated. He served 45 days in jail for his actions. Years later, Wahlberg also beat a man in an unprovoked attack while his friend held him down. The result left the man with a fractured jaw.
And yet his career still took off?
6 Chris Brown's Abuse Of Rihanna Going Public
One of the most shocking moments in modern Hollywood history was when a photo was released of an incredibly beaten up Rihanna. The abuse was administered at the hands of Chris Brown. The two had always had a tumultuous relationship, but there was no denying the proof in the photo.
"I felt like a f–king monster…I was thinking about suicide and everything else. I wasn’t sleeping, I wasn’t eating. I just was getting high," said Brown when talking about how he felt.
Despite being perhaps the most undeniable woman beater in Hollywood, Brown's career has continued to chug along.
5 Steve Austin Was Laying The Smackdown On Debra
Steve Austin was one of the largest factors behind the success of pro wrestling in the 1990s. But domestic abuse is never okay, and you can be thankful that in 2017, if a professional wrestler was openly beating their wife, that it would hopefully come to light quickly.
But for the wife of Steve Austin, Debra, she was on the receiving end of Austin's beatings on a regular basis.
"They’re not going to rat on the top money-maker in wrestling. And everyone else knew this was going on, but no one’s going to stop it because Steve would make millions of dollars for Vince," said Debra.
A devastating story and had it emerged when it should have, it would have forever changed the landscape of wrestling.
4 Emile Hirsch Choked A Female Paramount Executive
Part of the goal of our list is to help bring to your attention some Hollywood scandals that may have slipped by your radar. Emile Hirsch may be recognized for some of his roles like Into the Wild and Speed Racer but also appeared in the 2017 film All Nighter alongside J.K. Simmons.
But you may be shocked that he still has a career when you hear that he got into a fight with a female executive from Paramount. It escalated enough that Hirsch ended up choking her by putting her in a headlock.
He was arrested but only had to serve 15 days in jail. Hirsch has several films on the horizon, proving that his career is still going.
3 Stephen Rannazzisi Lied About Being There On 9/11
Stephen Rannazzisi was one of the fantastic actors that helped make The League such an outstanding show. When talking about his life in the past, Rannazzisi had talked about his experiences from 9/11,
“I was there and then the first tower got hit and we were like jostled all over the place. I still have dreams of like, you know, those falling dreams."
Rannazzisi then said it inspired him to travel to Los Angeles and pursue his dreams. But in 2015, an investigation by the New York Times uncovered that Rannazzisi had been lying about the entire thing.
Despite this, Rannazzisi still has an active podcast and is also lending his voice to the 2017 film Avengers of Justice: Farce Wars.
2 Jimmy Page Had A Relationship With A 14-Year-Old
Jimmy Page may have been an outstanding musician, but you may lose respect for him when you discover who a major object of his affection was. Despite being at least in his 20s, Page entered in a relationship with the then 14-year-old, Lori Maddox during the early 1970s.
While the relationship was literally illegal, it continued for several years. There is no argument that Page was immensely talented, but relationships with that extreme of an age difference are illegal for a reason. And considering the power that Page must have felt he had with his status as a rock God and the fact that he could have easily found a woman that was of a legal age, makes the whole thing feel even ickier.
1 David Letterman Slept With His Staffers
David Letterman is not the only celebrity in Hollywood that cheated on his wife. He is one of the few however who used his position of power as a late night television host and mega-celebrity to sleep with several of his staffers, though the exact number is not known.
This included Stephanie Birkitt who also appeared on the air occasionally alongside Letterman. When the numerous affairs became public, Birkitt was given a paid leave of absence.
While the television studio, Worldwide Pants, defended the relationship saying that it was not sexual harassment for their employees to sleep with each other; Letterman received a bit of heat from various celebrities and news shows including Ann Curry.
