For actors and actresses, television shows are kind of a prime gig. Sure, the days are long and you have a limited amount of time to work on other projects in between seasons — but the fact is, you have a steady gig that pays quite well, something that's fairly rare in the entertainment industry. If you manage to snag a spot on a television show that goes for multiple seasons, you can basically build up a huge nest egg and try your hand at whatever indie projects you want after the show wraps. It's a definite luxury — but some celebrities don't see it that way.

Most of the actors and actresses on this list were relatively unknown when they got their role on the television show in question. However, that didn't stop them from slamming everything from the writers to the show itself to simply how it affected their career. They don't quite seem to understand the concept of 'don't bite the hand that feeds you.' Now, a lot of the stars ended up slamming the show once they had left it and moved on to other projects, but still — you don't necessarily want to be known as the troublesome talent who will criticize the project that's paying your salary.

Here are 15 celebrities who actually trash-talked their own shows — not classy, guys!

Katherine Heigl Said The Writing On Grey's Wasn't Worth An Emmy Nomination

It makes sense that Katherine Heigl has taken a step back from the entertainment industry as of late and opted to work on her blog and other pursuits because she wasn't always the best at keeping quiet when she disliked a project. The most notable one is her trashing of Grey's Anatomy, the show that literally made her a household name. When Heigl was nominated for a prestigious Emmy for her role on the show, she took herself out of consideration because she felt that she "wasn't given the material to warrant a nomination". First of all, it's selfish to not even consider how an Emmy win would have helped the show, and second of all, that's a huge slap in the face to the writers and creator Shonda Rhimes. Ouch.

Kendall Jenner Is Trying To Distance Herself From KUWTK

It's fair to say that without their reality television show, the Kardashian-Jenner family would just be another California family with the children trying to make it big in the entertainment industry. The show launched their careers and made them the household names they are today. However, not everyone is grateful for that. Apparently, Kendall wants to focus on her fashion career, and a source says that "she's getting more and more prestigious modelling gigs and doesn't want to be dragged down by the tacky KUWTK biz anymore." Yikes! She's managed to find her spot in the fashion world, but we have a feeling that no one would have given her a chance if she wasn't already a household name. She was young when the show started, so perhaps she just doesn't see what a unique opportunity she was given.

Demi Lovato Says Her Breakout Show Gave Her Body Issues

Demi Lovato has certainly had a tough journey to fame. She got her start at a very young age and became a star when she snagged several roles on the Disney channel, including the lead on Sonny with a Chance. However, she slammed the show that brought her to the public's attention because she claimed it made her very self-conscious about her body, and that she hated being on camera. It seems like, in Lovato's case, it wasn't so much about the show as about the place she was at in her life at the time, but still — her issue was with the ideal body type that Hollywood seems to champion rather than any specifics about the show itself, so painting it in such a negative life isn't the nicest thing to do. Luckily, Lovato doesn't really seem to want to be involved in acting anymore — she's been focusing solely on her music career.

Blake Lively Trashed Her Gossip Girl Character, Serena

Before she snagged the role of everyone's favorite Upper East Side blonde Serena Van Der Woodsen, Blake Lively was just another blonde starlet trying to make it in the industry. However, she's admitted that she really hated the character she played — Lively spilled her true feelings to Allure mag in an interview saying that "it always felt a little personally compromising — you want to be putting a better message out there." She went on to explain some of her issues with Serena, saying that "I would not be proud to be the person who gave someone drugs and then shot someone and [dated] someone else's boyfriend." I mean... fair enough. Since the show wrapped, she's tackled meatier roles with characters she feels strongly about, but still — that's the show that essentially launched her career, so trash talking it is a curious decision.

Paul Wesley Said The Writers On The Vampire Diaries Were Stupid

Oh, man — what is with all these actors trashing the shows that made them superstars? Paul Wesley became a total heartthrob when he snagged one of the male leads on CW drama The Vampire Diaries, but that doesn't mean he's going to keep quiet when he thinks a storyline is foolish. He dished about a particular storyline, telling Digital Spy that "I don't buy it. I'll be completely honest. The writers are probably going to get mad at me! I don't buy it, but it is what it is and I have to live with it." Talk about a backseat driver! The show likely has a decently sized team of writers who are all working to keep the audience interested and entertained, and to have an actor chiming in about how they've screwed up their jobs probably doesn't make them too happy with him. However, at least he just criticized one storyline and not the entire show.

Chace Crawford Said He Lost His Dignity On The Gossip Girl Set

Gossip Girl launched a ton of careers — most of the stars were relatively unknown when the show started, and have since gone on to have successful careers in the industry — but it seems that a ton of the stars are ungrateful and more than happy to trash it. Chace Crawford, who played Nate Archibald, told Us Weekly when he was leaving the show that "I'm gonna look for my dignity. My dignity is somewhere on set. I think it happened around Season 2. Leading into Season 3, it was all out the window." Uh... ouch! Considering that Crawford has probably been the least successful since the show wrapped, perhaps he should have been a little more careful about trash talking the project that made him a star. Producers are likely hesitant to hire someone they think might slam their project as soon as it finishes filming.

Ariana Grande Said Her Experience Was "Straight Out Of Hell"

If you weren't a fan of the Disney channel, you may have only gotten to know Ariana Grande once she broke into the music industry and became a pop star. While that's all she's known for today, she did, in fact, get her start acting on the Disney channel on the show Sam & Cat. However, she hasn't exactly been kind to the show that launched her career in the entertainment industry. In fact, she's been outspoken about how much she hated the experience and said that filming it was "straight out of hell." Uh... ouch! She's since earned a reputation as a bit of a diva, and we can see why — perhaps she ought to have been grateful for the show that made her somewhat famous and likely helped her when it came time to get a record deal rather than slamming it so thoroughly.

Penn Badgley Says He Hated Gossip Girl, His Character, And Everything Else

Okay, seriously — speaking out once the show wraps and you have all those paychecks in the bank is kind of a coward's move. Nevertheless, Penn Badgley joins the other Gossip Girl alum who dissed the show once it wrapped. He told Vulture that he actually turned down the role at first, but eventually accepted it (because, uh... money). His complaint is a bit diva-ish, as he said that "it's not that I don't like my character, it's just, after a while, you're known as somebody that you're not, and this is somebody who I so am not. He's not real. He's a tool on a show with soap-operatic arcs and he needs to be a judgmental d****e bag sometimes, I get that, I don't hate anybody for that, but it sucks when people call me 'Dan' and think that I'm him."

Angus T. Jones Found Jesus — And A Hatred For His Successful Show

This one was probably one of the weirdest trash talking situations ever. Angus T. Jones got his start on Two and a Half Men when he was very young, and managed to rake in season after season of cash as a child star. Then, at some point, he apparently found Jesus and suddenly decided that he couldn't be a part of such an immoral show. He released a statement saying "if you watch Two and a Half Men, please stop watching Two and a Half Men. I'm on Two and a Half Men and I don't want to be on it. Please stop watching it and filling your head with filth." Yikes! There are definitely ways to quit without trash talking your show so much, and telling people to stop watching the show that gave you paychecks year after years.

Ian Somerhalder Dissed The Vampire Diaries – And The Entire Network!

Spin-offs are a tricky thing, and when The Vampire Diaries spin-off entitled The Originals kicked off, Somerhalder had a few choice words to say about his show. His issue was that he was concerned that a ton of great talent would leave the show once he was on to move to the spin-off show, which, fair enough. However, he then delivered this gem to Digital Spy: "because it's The CW and everyone has to be pretty and there aren't a lot of pretty people that can act well. I'm not joking! I'm one of them that can act well." Uh... just stop talking. That interview managed to not only make him sound like a conceited jerk, but he also managed to criticize virtually all aspiring starlets, the network that pays his bills, and the casting directors' ability to do their job. Way to go.

Joe Jonas Said He Hated His Show

The Jonas Brothers have all gone on to be successful at whatever they want in life — and not all of them have opted to remain in the entertainment industry. However, they certainly got a pretty good deal for several years, raking in all that Disney dough — but not all of them see it that way. Joe Jonas majorly trash talked the Disney channel and the television show he and his brothers got, saying that the writing was absolutely awful and he didn't think it was funny at all. He's not trying to pursue a career in acting anymore, so perhaps he felt that it was fine to burn all those bridges, but that's still a pretty awful thing to do — there were a ton of people whose jobs it was to make that show that he slammed so thoroughly.

Chevy Chase Said Community Was The Lowest Form Of Entertainment

Unlike some of his co-stars, Chevy Chase had had a very successful career before getting cast on the sitcom Community. However, the show definitely introduced him to an entirely different audience that may not have been familiar with his earlier work, plus it's a paying gig, so it's tough to complain, right? Wrong. Chevy Chase got in a big fight with the Community crew, including creator Dan Harmon, and he did everything from call his decision to take the role "a big mistake" and labeled the show the "lowest form of entertainment" and a "f***ing mediocre sitcom." Yikes! He eventually left the show for good, but what an awful way to talk about a project that meant a lot to many people out there, including all the fans!

Shannen Doherty Called Charmed A Show For 12-Year-Olds

Shannen Doherty snagged one of the leads in the drama Charmed way back in the day, and the show earned many fans. However, Doherty seems to have been doubtful about the kind of attention the show got, saying that "there were a couple of moments when I gave the most brutally honest performance I ever could have given as an actor. What you saw came from my gut. And when I looked at those moments on the show I knew that they weren't being given their proper due, because they were on Charmed. It's a show for 12-year-olds!" Uh... way to give yourself a pat on the back and compliment your own acting skills while simultaneously slamming the show and all your fans. Quite a curious move on her part.

Bella Thorne Was Forced To Compete With Her Shake It Up Co-Star

Nowadays, Bella Thorne is known more for her outfit choices and behavior and choice of partner than for the actual projects she takes on, but back in the day, she was another Disney starlet. She co-starred on the show Shake It Up alongside Zendaya, the gorgeous starlet turned singer who is one of Thorne's close friends today. However, Thorne has been quick to trash talk the show, saying that "Zendaya and I were put in a very unfortunate position where we were kind of forced to compete against each other, which made the whole first season of the show just very awkward for us." While pitting your stars against one another seems like a curious way to do things, we have to wonder how much of it is true and how much is just Thorne's fabrication.

Shailene Woodley Slammed The Values Of Her Breakout Show

Shailene Woodley has developed a reputation in Hollywood as a bit of a strange egg. Sure, she's managed to snag roles in a ton of hugely successful projects, but it seems that may dry up if people realize that she's a bit of a loose cannon. While her activism work is inspiring, her decision to trash talk the show that made her famous isn't. When discussing The Secret Life of the American Teenager with Flaunt, Woodley said that "the things that we were preaching on that show weren't really aligned with my own integrity. It was a bit hard to show up to work every day knowing that we were going to project all of these themes to thousands — millions — of young adults across the country when they in fact weren't what I would like to be sending out." Uh... she had to have known what the show was about when she signed up.
