Celebs are not picture perfect all times, right? Frankly, there’s a huge difference between the celeb we see onscreen and the real celeb brought to us by media and paparazzi alike. And some celebs have more of a bad boy/girl rep than others. Think of people like Charlie Sheen, Amanda Bynes, Lindsay Lohan and more. They are afflicted with the worst case of celebrity foot-in-mouth syndrome. But the list we have for you certainly behaved no better in 2017. These are the celebs likely to make naughty on Santa’s list in 2017 for they crossed many a boundary and caused many of us to shake our heads.
Most celebs try to play nice to retain their popularity and also because of the paparazzi hounding them at each step. But some are just born bad and believe that their stardom makes them a privileged lot, and then they begin the tantrums and the diva behavior. Other celebs are afflicted by an inability to control themselves, so every time they open their mouth, they inadvertently make a huge mistake. And still, other celebs get so carried away in the heat of the moment that they say or do something that becomes an internet meme and a constant source of amusement. So maybe, these celebs should stick to acting, looking pretty, and doing their jobs, leaving the talking to the people who are actually good at it. Here’s 2017’s celeb roster of shame, and the celebrities who totally lost it this year.
15. Kevin Spacey Comes Out In The Worst Way Possible & Loses It All
When Anthony Rapp accused Kevin Spacey of assaulting him when he was a teen, here’s what this Academy-award winner had to say in his defence: “I have a lot of respect and admiration for Anthony Rapp as an actor. I’m beyond horrified to hear his story. I honestly do not remember the encounter; it would have been over 30 years ago. But if I did behave then as he describes, I owe him the sincerest apology for what would have been deeply inappropriate drunken behavior.” The “apology” goes on as he tries to make excuses for himself, and he then hides behind the revelation that he is gay. Things blew up in his face, and deservedly so. Not only did Emmy take back its planned lifetime achievement award from Spacey, he was also booted from his hit series House of Cards. As of now, he probably stands only second to Harvey Weinstein on the public’s most hated list of celebrities of 2017.
14. Nick Cannon Walks Away From America’s Got Talent
Freedom of speech is one thing, but racial “jokes”? A very different ballgame… Nick Cannon made a questionable joke in his stand-up special, Stand Up, Don’t Shoot where he used a racial slur and implied that America’s Got Talent took away his black identity. He continued by pointing at the audience and saying that now he has “these kinds of people” coming to his shows. This joke didn’t go down well with NBC executives who threatened to fire him. So Nick walked, later commenting on Facebook, “I was to be punished for a joke… My soul won’t allow me to be in business with corporations that attempt to frown on freedom of speech, censor artists, and question cultural choices. Not to get too detailed but this isn’t the first time executives have attempted to ‘put me in my place’ for so-called unruly actions. I will not stand for it.” Come on, Nick. Did you think that using a racial slur wasn’t going to get you any heat from NBC?
13. Dani Mathers Tried To Fat Shame But Stands Ashamed In Court
Dani Mathers completely lost it in 2017. And she proved that Playmates need not be very high in the grey cell area. Why? Dani went to her gym where a woman must have irked her because, well, she was not very thin. Mathers jumped onto the fat-shaming bandwagon and did something very stupid and very illegal. She posted a picture of that woman completely in the buff on Snapchat, obviously without her permission, with the rude caption, “If you can’t un-see this, I can’t either.” The victim was 71 years old! Yeah, Dani – what a riot. Luckily for Dani, the case did not go to trial or else she could have faced at least six months in jail. She was sentenced to three years of probation and ordered to complete 30 hours of graffiti removal service. We hope she breaks a nail, or ten… After the backlash, the model apologized and said she intended to send the photo privately to a friend. Still not cool, is it?
12. Shia LaBeouf Is Arrested Again And Unrepentant
In June, after some five months of quiet, Shia LaBeouf raised his alcohol-addled head again and made yet another mistake. He approached a bystander and a police officer, looking to score a cigarette. Unaccustomed to being refused, when not given a cigarette, he launched into a tirade and became disorderly, using profanities and vulgar language. When told to leave the area, LaBeouf refused and became aggressive toward the officer. Come on, Shia. When the officer attempted to place LaBeouf under arrest, he ran to a nearby hotel and was then arrested in the hotel lobby, where he continued his ugly verbal antics. Wow. LaBeouf was videotaped throwing invectives at his arresting officer and then ever used racial slurs against an officer, saying he’d be going to hell because of the color of his skin. If that were not enough, he then accused the cops of being racist because “a black man arrested me for being white.” Of course, he has since then apologized, but how do you move past something like that?
11. Kendall’s Offensive Pepsi Ad
This one caused quite the furor, in what could only be called tone-deaf idiocy by Pepsi and by Kendall. In the commercial, Kendall (playing herself) sees a protest march go by while posing for a photoshoot. She then decides to join the march and of course, inevitably leads it. When faced with a police line, she hands a Pepsi to a police officer. And then all is joyful and peaceful. People criticized the commercial because the protest it featured clearly was using real life current protests as an inspiration, but it was completely generic and there wasn’t an actual stance behind it – so the only message that came through was that Pepsi was the answer to police brutality and political strife. This is of course ridiculous. The visual imagery used in the commercial referenced current protest movements and both Pepsi and Kendall were trolled for having turned something political into something so meaningless. Pepsi apologized to the public as well as to Kendall.
10. Harvey Weinstein: An Addict Or A Predator?
So how does one of the most thanked men on the red carpet suddenly become the most reviled of the lot? Well, apparently by forcing A-listers for s*xual favors for many, many years. 2017 was definitely the year when all the women in Hollywood decided to get up and call a spade a spade. Despite Harvey Weinstein‘s resignation from The Weinstein Company and subsequent stint in s*x rehab, no one is in the mood to see this predator in a positive light. As far as the PR statement his publicists have released, well, most call it total garbage. Of course, they call it so in much harsher and unprintable words. And there has been a long list of women who have suddenly woken up from their pressured sleep, and let forth a barrage of accusations against this very rich, powerful Hollywood predator.
9. Mel B’s Accusatory Hailstorm Against The Husband
Stephen Belafonte – a movie and TV producer – had been in and out of marriage trouble long before he even met Mel B. But Mel B chose to view the man with rose-colored glasses and after a whirlwind courtship, got married to a husband who would for the next eight years beat, abuse, and exploit her, control her fortune and also become the father to her daughter. It took Mel B eight years to finally raise her voice against this man and file for a divorce that’s turning more nasty than ever. Stephen has been barred and blocked from Mel’s bank accounts and fortune – so this man pride promptly filed an allowance appeal and also demanded she covers his legal costs. The kicker is, well, the nanny. Lorraine Gilles was the nanny to Mel & Stephen’s daughter Madison who then had a wild affair with Stephen, managing to get herself pregnant too. To Mel, this was perhaps the last straw.
8. Danny Masterson: Did He Or Didn’t He?
For the normal TV-watching, non-Scientology follower, Danny Masterson of That ’70s Show being accused of r*pe was like a bolt from the blue. Huh? Danny Masterson? Nice and funny Danny? But yes – the accusations are not new at all. In fact, they belong way back to the 2000s and they have been raised by three different victims. It’s just that Leah Remini, Scientology’s most hated whistleblower, got to know about them and has been encouraging the victims to come forward. Remini said, “I met with the LAPD. I met with Detective Reyes, and I told her these victims deserve to be heard. I pointed out to her that there was a framed picture of a Scientologist on their wall, actor Michael Peña. Do you know what that says to a young Scientologist who comes here to seek justice? My experience with the LAPD has not been good. I asked her to do the right thing by these girls, and I told her that the world is watching.” For now, the case is in limbo – we will have to wait and see what finally happens to Masterson, who has called Remini’s accusations false and baseless.
7. Chris Brown At It Again And Again
Chris Brown is a whole other level of foolish. The fact that he abused Rihanna wasn’t enough, and apparently, the public backlash he got wasn’t enough to change his ways either. Model and singer Karrueche Tran began dating Brown in 2010 but they briefly broke up when Brown reconciled and hooked up with Rihanna again. That went nowhere, as we all know, but Brown and Tran split too after cheating allegations surfaced and it was revealed that Brown had a daughter, Royalty, with Nia Guzman. In February 2017, Tran was granted a temporary 100-yard restraining order against Brown and eventually a 5-year restraining order against Brown, who continued his mean and violent streak even in this relationship. Tran claimed that Brown had told a few people that he was going to kill her. Plus he punched her in the stomach twice and even pushed her down the stairs once. Real romantic, isn’t he?
6. Johnny Depp’s Foot-In-Mouth Syndrome
His abuse allegations from ex-wife Amber Heard had barely died down when Johnny Depp opened his mouth again and stuck in his foot. At the Glastonbury Festival, he made a rather unfunny joke about the current president of the United States: “When was the last time an actor assassinated a president?” Naturally, this extremely inappropriate joke didn’t go down well, and the White House issued this statement: “President Trump has condemned violence in all forms and it’s sad that others like Johnny Depp have not followed his lead. I hope that some of Mr. Depp’s colleagues will speak out against this type of rhetoric as strongly as they would if this was directed towards a Democrat elected official.” Strong words, but the reaction came soon after from a repentant Depp, saying, “I apologize for the bad joke I attempted last night in poor taste. It did not come out as intended, and I intended no malice. I was only trying to amuse, not to harm anyone.” Wow, Johnny. Can’t you just act normally for once?
5. Anna Faris Is Unqualified For Marriage
Anna Faris didn’t lose it per se, but 2017 certainly seemed to begin with a major loss for her. Her marriage with goofball-turned-superstar husband Chris Pratt deteriorated. After eight years of marriage, just when Pratt became Hollywood hero material, he dutifully dumped “un-heroine” material Anna Faris – and it may just have been the worst thing he ever did. Faris is as funnily charming as ever about the split, and despite her book Unqualified hitting just months after the split, she remains outwardly unfazed like always. Pratt, though, has been receiving flak from his fans and not just for dumping his wife. He is also being criticized for asking people to turn up the volume to listen to his podcasts instead of reading the subtitles. Never mind if someone is hearing impaired – just turn up the volume, dang it! His apology followed soon after: “I realize now [that my comment] was incredibly insensitive to the many folks out there who depend on subtitles. More than 38 million Americans live with some sort of hearing disability. So I want to apologize. I have people in my life who are hearing-impaired, and the last thing in the world I would want to do is offend them or anybody who suffers from hearing loss or any other disability. So truly from the bottom of my heart, I apologize.” Maybe Anna Faris is better off without him. After the heartbreak settles, she will probably bounce back better than ever.
4. Warren Beatty & Faye Dunaway Made The Unforgettable Oscars Mistake
This wasn’t Warren Beatty or Faye Dunaway’s fault at all. The goof-up happened because they were handed the incorrect envelope – so all they did was read out the winner’s name: La La Land! Now imagine the plight of the La La Land team who literally danced onto the stage but were soon forced to hand over the trophy to the rightful owner, Moonlight! The biggest Twitter troll of this gaffe turned out to be Steve Harvey, who himself cause an internet meltdown in 2015 when he got Miss Colombia crowned the Miss Universe instead of the rightful winner, Miss Philippines. Yep, since he got trolled in 2015, he was merciless to the Oscars. And the Miss Universe handle was no less funny, asking the Oscars handle to call them considering they knew what to do in foot-in-mouth situations like this. Of course, the card was still in Beatty’s hand when it was snatched away by the fumbling Oscars team – if they had taken it away from Faye, she might have punched a light out or two!
3. Elizabeth Banks Dissed Spielberg And Messed Up Big Time
When Elizabeth Banks was invited to speak at the Women in Film’s Crystal + Lucy Awards, she took to stage to chastise Steven Spielberg for not making a movie with a female lead. In doing so came the diss – that Banks herself forgot the very iconic The Color Purple, an awarded film featuring black female actresses like Whoopi Goldberg, Margaret Avery, and Oprah Winfrey. After being trolled a lot, Banks issued a rather humble apology: “I framed my comments inaccurately. I want to be clear from the start that I take full responsibility for what I said and I’m sorry. When I made the comments, I was thinking of recent films Steven directed. It was not my intention to dismiss the import of the iconic #TheColorPurple. I’m very sorry.” Insulting one of the most respected and hardworking men in Hollywood is probably not the best thing you could’ve done, Elizabeth.
2. Kim K’s Blackface Controversy Over Makeup
When Kim Kardashian launched her contour kits, they sold like hotcakes. But they had barely started selling when a controversy arose. Now, controversy certainly seems to be any Kardashian’s middle name, doesn’t it? The issue arose when Kim’s “team” darkened her skin tone in promotional images to really let the contouring show. Consequently, she was accused of blackface and trolled for it. Taking it in her stride, Kim K made a statement: “I would obviously never want to offend anyone. I used an amazing photographer and a team of people. I was really tan when we shot the images, and it might be that the contrast was off. But I showed the image to many people in the business. No one brought that to our attention. No one mentioned it. Of course, I have the utmost respect for why people might feel the way they did. But we made the necessary changes to that photo and the rest of the photos. We saw the problem, and we adapted and changed right away. Definitely, I have learned from it.” Until next time, Kim…
1. Samantha Bee Shames A Cancer Patient & Fox Apologizes
For all those who are ardent fans of Samantha Bee’s Full Frontal on Fox, there was a clip (which has now been duly removed) where Samantha jokes about how she simply cannot figure out the conservatives anymore. The show’s producer and correspondent, Michael Rubens, went to CPAC to “figure out if conservatism is still a thing” and in trying to make it slapstick funny, they falsely called some attendees Nazis because of their haircut. One of those so-called “Nazis” was Kyle Coddington, a contributor from Outset magazine who was sporting the hairdo for the simple reason that he was diagnosed with stage four brain cancer and recently completed his first round of chemotherapy and radiation. Not so funny anymore, is it? So Full Frontal issued an apology: “We deeply apologize for offending [Kyle] in our CPAC segment. We only learned of his condition today & have removed him from the piece.” Coddington found the apology half-baked, though, and called it an interesting experience on the whole. Clearly, Sam and Fox temporarily lost their marbles. What a terrible joke to make!
