15 Celebs Who Secretly Tried To Get Their Co-Stars Fired

From an outsider’s point of view looking in, the celeb world might seem really friendly, and like everyone gets on with one another. That couldn’t be farthest from the truth. Sure, a lot of celebs might seem like model citizens. But do some digging – which thankfully we don’t have to, as the prying eyes of paparazzi and gossip mags do that for us! – and you’ll learn that it’s a pretty cut-throat world. You’ve got to have some thick skin in order to make it and flourish as a celeb nowadays. You’ve also got to be prepared for a whole lot of backstabbing, favoritism being shown, people who are out to ruin your career and further their own in the process. Certain people hold a lot of clout, and what they say goes. One word in the right person’s ear from these people, and you’re history. If you think about it, it’s actually like any other industry. People want to get ahead, and if they’re not happy about something or someone, they’ll make it known. But at the same time, they don’t want to appear to be a major douche, so they do so on the down low.

I’m in no way saying that every person on this list who secretly tried to get a co-star fired was in the wrong. In some of their cases, it’s perfectly understandable why they did what they did. Anyway, you can make your own minds up, and think about whether you would’ve done the same. These are 15 celebs who secretly tried to get their co-stars fired. In most instances, they tried and succeeded.

15. Kevin James

via: chicagotribune.com

One show that people will rate as being one of Kevin James’ major successes is The King of Queens. That sitcom is still playing on TV screens across the world. People just love it, and it’s because of Kevin James and Leah Remini. The two played a married couple on-screen, and their chemistry was truly amazing. It’s what made the show. When Kevin embarked on another venture, the show Kevin Can Wait, he was paired with Erinn Hayes. No one was expecting them to share the same chemistry as Kevin had with Leah, but even so, it was pretty dire. People were reminded of the pairing of Kevin and Leah when she made a special appearance. It also made people realize that the pair of Kevin and Erinn just wasn’t working out. Kevin certainly realized this. Kevin got Erinn killed off at the end of the first season. Leah subsequently became a series regular.

14. Kirk Cameron

via: usmagazine.com

A lot of you have probably heard of this sitcom, due to the success it achieved in the 80s and early 90s. Growing Pains was basically about a family, all their nuisances, their daily life, adolescent kids, and their different personalities. It’s one of Kirk Cameron’s biggest roles. Due to his role in the sitcom, he became a household name. He had girls sticking up photos of him on their bedroom walls – people were just obsessed with Kirk. While initially he probably enjoyed the attention, he must have been squirming inside. People were seriously shocked when he announced he was a born-again Christian. Because of this, the show had to accommodate his new beliefs. He refused to be involved in anything too risqué. That basically meant cutting Julie McCullough out of the show. She was playing his girlfriend at the time. But her Playboy past had become a problem. Cameron insisted that she be axed, because her past didn’t sit well with him being a born-again Christian and all.

13. Bill Cosby

via: pagesix.com

Bill Cosby’s supposedly done a lot of bad things, but in terms of what he’s done on-screen, he’s also done plenty of good. He’s provided entertainment to the masses. One of the shows that made him rise to prominence was the aptly named Cosby Show. For five seasons, it was the number one rated show on TV. It followed the life of an upper-middle class African American family, and it was just a really fun show to watch. There was no sense of edginess about it; it was just clean, wholesome entertainment and family fun. Lisa Bonet was part of the show, but she began to go off the rails. Cosby wasn’t pleased, thinking her antics would harm the image of the show and the reputation it has gained. Bonet appeared in the buff in movies and in photoshoots, she was doing raunchy movies on the side, had a whirlwind marriage, and got pregnant. And all of this when she was a teenager! Cosby feared she’d harm his show, so he essentially kicked her off the show.

12. Lucy Liu

via: pinterest.co.uk

Drew Barrymore, Cameron Diaz, and Lucy Liu teamed up to make the Charlie’s Angels remake the almighty success it was. The three actresses got on incredibly well, and their real-life friendship resulted in some amazing on-screen performances. But Bill Murray, who was also in the movie, couldn’t get some of that love for himself. Barrymore and Diaz were fine with Murray, and Murray was fine with them. But all was not okay between Murray and Liu. Apparently, things got so bad, they almost went toe to toe with each other. Murray essentially told Liu she sucked as an actress, and then Liu stood up to him and was about to start throwing punches before she was pulled away. Liu demanded that Murray not be cast in any of the sequels. Her wish was granted, and Bernie Mac stepped in to replace him. Things were then much more harmonious between the cast members on-set.

11. Will Smith

via: huffingtonpost.co.uk

One of Will Smith’s greatest triumphs is undoubtedly his role in The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. The entire show was a super-hit, and everybody played their part. It’s such a big success, it’s still playing now on TV screens around the world, and it is now streaming on Netflix. The show’s about Will and his wealthy family. They were all very loving and affectionate on-screen, but off it, it was a different story. Janet Hubert, who played Will’s Aunt Viv, was getting on everyone’s back. Will has said: “She wanted the show to be called The Aunt Viv of Bel-Air Show.’ No matter what, to her I’m just the Antichrist.” The fact she became pregnant didn’t help. It violated the terms of her contract, which had a part in her dismissal. But even Alfonso Ribeiro who played Carlton, has said that Hubert was just becoming impossible. “Long story short… there were days when we were all on the set and she would literally go off on people.” In response. Hubert has said: “Will probably is responsible for my firing. He has a lot of clout. It’s too bad that it’s a black-on-black attack. He has gotten me fired from the show and now he is trying to snatch my career away from me.”

10. Leonardo DiCaprio

via: time.com

Leonardo DiCaprio has got the reputation of being a gent. He’s uber professional, rarely has a bad word to say about anybody, and his co-stars rarely have anything bad to say about him. But in his younger days things were a bit different. Apparently on the sets on Romeo and Juliet he was a real nightmare. Most 16-year olds would’ve been smitten and gone along with everything he wanted to do. But not Claire Danes. She hated his guts. Leo himself wasn’t too fond of Claire. He was constantly pulling pranks on her and the rest of the crew. When she didn’t smile, he thought she was uptight. Rumor has it that they hated each other’s guts. Apparently, Claire had a word in the director’s ear, as did Leo, and if rumors are to be believed, he tried to get her fired. But the directors and producers talked them around. They continued with the movie, basically putting up with each other for the sake of the project, but secret they loathed each other and couldn’t wait to be finished.

9. Sharon Osbourne

via: huffingtonpost.com

Sharon Osbourne, being an Osbourne, has had to put up with a great deal of stuff throughout her life. It could have gone either one of two ways for Sharon. Her tumultuous relationship and family life with Ozzy could have beaten her down to the point where she disappeared from the limelight entirely, or it could have hardened her character, and made her more determined to succeed. The latter holds true for Sharon. She’s a bold woman who knows what she wants, says what she wants, and pulls no punches.

Sharon was the main host of The Talk. She wanted things done a particular way – her way. And the guest hosts, Holly Robinson-Peete and Leah Remini were bringing to the show just didn’t sit well with her. They were very honest, chilled out, and had a more laid-back approach than Sharon. So, Sharon worked her magic and they were ousted. Or that’s what Remini thinks. She took to Twitter to share her thoughts: “Sharon thought me and Holly were ‘ghetto’… we were not funny, awkward and didn’t know ourselves. She has the power that was given to her.” Sharon denies these claims. But it’s fair to say that they won’t be on each other’s Christmas card lists.

8. Alyssa Milano

via: zimbio.com

You’ve got to actually feel a tad bit of sympathy for Shannen Doherty. Over the years she’s gone through a lot, including having to put up with the reputation of someone who gets fired from TV shows. And this is mainly due to the Spelling family. During her 90210 days, Tori played a part in getting Shannen cut from the show. Then, when she went on to star in Charmed, producer Aaron Spelling was involved in her being fired. He ultimately called the shots and made the decision, but it was mainly down to Alyssa Milano. Alyssa was enjoying a surge in popularity, which translated to plenty of endorsement deals. Rumor has it that Shannen was more than a tad jealous of her co-star and began to get catty. Things were so fractured between the two, that at the end of season three, they weren’t even talking to each other. Doherty said that it was at this point that Alyssa went to Spelling and said that if Doherty wasn’t fired, she’d walk. Alyssa refutes this claim. Doherty was subsequently killed off the show.

7. Charlie Sheen

via: huffingtonpost.com

I reckon most people by now know about Charlie Sheen and his tumultuous past. Back when he’d just been axed from the hit sitcom Two and a Half Men, it’s fair to say that he was at a serious low point in his life. He may have hit rock bottom, but he was trying to keep busy. Anger Management was one of his next projects. His co-star on the show was Selma Blair. They certainly didn’t enjoy a happy relationship on set. Charlie was still in a dark place, living that bad boy lifestyle. Apparently, he’d show up late for shoots all the time, and his work ethic stunk. I don’t know what Selma was expecting – Charlie’s hardly a guy who’s known for his professionalism. But Charlie still felt threatened. He somehow got wind that Selma wasn’t happy, and so decided to nip their on-set working relationship in the bud before she tried to do anything about it. He had a quiet word in the producer’s ears, giving them an ultimatum; either she got fired, or he’d leave. He didn’t really give them an option, since the show was essentially Charlie’s. They wrote Selma off the show, and she wasn’t a happy bunny. Again, I’m not sure what she was expecting to happen. This is Charlie Sheen we’re talking about.

6. Nicki Minaj And Mariah Carey

via: eonline.com

Both Nicki Minaj and Mariah Carey are singers with big personalities. They’re not exactly renowned for being the shy and retiring types. If something’s pissing them off, they’re sure to make sure people know about it. And they have the perfect avenue through which to do so too: their lyrics. That’s exactly what Minaj did after she enjoyed a pretty dire time sharing the screen with Mariah Carey on American Idol.

Rumor has it that both Nicki Minaj and Mariah Carey tried to get each other fired when they were working on American Idol. It was evident from the get-go that they weren’t exactly best of buddies. It made for entertaining TV, though, which is probably why they were both kept on the show. On pretty much every episode, the judges panel turned seriously frosty. They were constantly taking jibes at one another, and it wasn’t just for the cameras, either.

5. Tori Spelling

via: people.com

The original 90210 series was a massive success. It starred some big names, and helped launch the careers of many actresses. Shannen Doherty was one of the most-loved people on the show. At Beverly High, she was the girl about town, so to speak. She had plenty of friends and was immensely popular. One of those she befriended was Tori Spelling’s character. Shannen’s fan following just continued to grow, and with more fans and with all the success that was heaped on the show and the actresses came inflated egos. This caused some of the cast members to fall out, and resulted in plenty of clashing between Tori and Shannen. Seeing as how her dad was the show’s producer, it wasn’t difficult for Tori to get Shannen fired. Apparently, Shannen was fired because she had a haircut. Yes, you read that correctly. She had a haircut which didn’t fit in with the show. How much does a wig cost? The Spelling’s aren’t short of a few dollars! They should have come up with a better excuse than that.

4. Harrison Ford

via: youtube.com

This sounds like kid’s stuff, but it was very real. Harrison Ford is another guy who’s earned the utmost respect from pretty much everyone in the industry. But someone who isn’t too fond of him is Josh Hartnett. They starred together in Hollywood Homicide, but it wasn’t a happy experience for either actor. Initially, Josh didn’t not like him. He was just intimidated by Harrison’s stature in the industry. Harrison also wanted to get the best out of his co-star, and pushed him really hard. At the time, Josh resented him for it. Things got so bad that Josh ended up calling the great man an “old fart.” Sounds like kiddy stuff, right? Well, Harrison didn’t take too kindly to being called names, and things just escalated. Things got seriously tense, and if rumors are to be believed, Harrison tried to get Josh fired. But they’d completed most of the shooting by that point, so the two just had to grin and bear it for the sake of the film.

3. Patrick Swayze

via: totnescinema.co.uk/

Patrick Swayze’s one of the greatest actors of all time. Those who knew him would tell you that he’s a great guy too, one of the best. He was a pretty big deal in the 80s, but his career really took off. He became known to the masses when he starred in one of the world’s most iconic films, Dirty Dancing. I’d like to say that Jennifer Grey’s career took off too, but who are we kidding?

Throughout that movie, the dance instructor, was teaching Baby dirty dancing. There were many times where he became infuriated with her, but he persevered. Well, it may surprise a lot of you to know that that was the case in real life too. There were times where Patrick just couldn’t deal with Jennifer, and he’s said that filming with her was seriously difficult. There are rumors that he actually tried to get her replaced, so the dancing would go smoother. But they persevered, and the end result is one of the greatest films of all time.

2. Lea Michele

via: cosmopolitan.com

The American musical comedy-drama TV series Glee was a massive success. People loved it, and the lead characters became star names. Lea Michele and Naya Rivera were a couple of these main characters. Lea’s character was the leader, and people loved her for it. It’s fair to say that when things began to change, diehard fans weren’t best pleased. Neither was Lea Michele. She wanted to remain at the top, and this led to plenty of animosity between the two co-stars. They just couldn’t work with each other – there couldn’t be two top dogs. The producer couldn’t fire Michele. So, they reduced Rivera’s appearances, until she was to all extents and purposes, a non-existent member of Glee. Rivera later divulged what took place in her book: “One of the Glee writers once said that Lea and I were like two sides of the same battery and that about sums us up. We are both strong willed and competitive — not just with each other but with everyone—and that’s not a good mixture. As the show progressed, though, that friendship started to break down, especially as Santana moved from a background character to one with bigger plot lines and more screen time. I think Rachel — erm, I mean Lea — didn’t like sharing the spotlight.”

1. LisaRaye McCoy

via: celebritypictures.wiki

A lot of these incidents of an actor getting a co-star fired are shrouded in an air of secrecy. Down the line, after the incident, snippets of information filter through. But they’re still met with conflicting claims. There’s nothing of the sort in relation to the events that took place on the sets of Single Ladies. The women on that show are known for being pretty bold, and at times, quite catty to one another and others. But LisaRaye McCoy and Stacey Dash were more than just catty to one another. There was some serious bad blood between the two. They disagreed on absolutely everything. It made for some entertaining TV, but for McCoy, it just became too much for her to deal with. She basically told Dash to get lost, to go away and never return. And that’s exactly what happened. People tuned in to see the second season and there was no Stacey Dash.
