It can be difficult keeping up with the ever-changing status of Hollywood relationships. Each day to the next, it feels as though a budding romance we thought might last ended in an instant, and then a new couple came out of nowhere, not even realizing there was a connection between the two parties.
Below is a list of 15 couples that you might not have known were on a break. Some of these breaks seem to be more permanent than others. Long relationships ending in divorce is never easy, but because these folks are in Hollywood and every move they ever make is detailed and scrutinized, they have to say the right thing to the press. Sometimes, they probably wish the whole story would just go away, and in some cases, you'll see that the celebrity tried to do just that.
Some of these relationships ending were not news. But, the details about what happened might be a bit fuzzy. Do you think these couples will get back together and are just on a break? Or, are these relationships toast forever? We believe this list has a little of both. Don't forget to share with a friend. Who would you add to the list? I'm sure there are a handful we missed. By the time this list ends, new relationships will have likely started and ended already.
15 Olivia Munn And Aaron Rogers
After three years together, the superstar quarterback of the Green Bay Packers and the up-and-coming actress are no longer an item. At one point, they were recently rumored to be engaged; but today, the pair only remain close friends and wish nothing but the best for each other moving forward.
The two reportedly met at the Academy of Country Music Awards in Las Vegas and Munn had no idea who Rogers was. She actually had to ask him what he did for a living and when he said football, she thought he meant college. She had no idea that he was one of the best quarterbacks to play the game or the Super Bowl MVP. There were rumors everywhere that the two were getting married and so much so, Munn had to convince her family that that wasn't the case. I suppose they'll believe her now.
14 Paige Turco And Jason O'Mara
Paige Turco has been around for a while, having played April O'Neil on Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and in recurring roles on the television series The 100, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, and Person of Interest. Jason O'Mara has starred in Agents of S.H.E.I.L.D, The Good Wife, and voiced tons of Batman animated films. After nearly 14 years of marriage, Paige filed for divorce.
She cites irreconcilable differences and says that they separated on May 1. They were married in 2003 and have a 13-year-old son together. She's filed for joint custody and wants Jason to provide spousal support. You might have thought her acting resume would have paid a little better than his, but apparently not. I guess those animated voice-overs are good work if you can get it.
13 Kevin Dillon And Jane Stuart
She's not famous but he sure is. Dillon made most of his money as the older brother (Johnny) of superstar Vincent Chase on Entourage, but this divorce is significant because in the proceedings, Dillon pleaded that they were actually separated in 2008 and not in 2016 when Stuart filed for divorce. It matters because almost all of the real money Dillon made came after 2008, and if the judge found they had been separated, Stuart would not have been entitled to any of it.
They settled out of court for $3,174 a month in child support for their 11-year-old daughter, and Jane gets $7,214 in monthly spousal support. It's an interesting case when it comes to Hollywood separations because these kinds of disputes probably happen more than most might think. This one was also interesting because not too many people likely even realized that Kevin Dillon was ever married.
12 Lauren Bushnell And Ben Higgins
If you're a fan of The Bachelor, you'll know who were talking about here. But, let's be real for a second, these aren't real celebrities. The fact that even one of these relationships has lasted is unbelievable, so it's not a surprise that Lauren Bushnell is calling it quits from Ben Higgins after their proposal on the show.
Lauren was at LAX in late May and said that she's planning to return the ring; although to date, were not sure if she's done so yet. The couple announced their split a couple weeks earlier. Interestingly, Lauren left it open to possibly working things out with her reality show co-star. But, who are we kidding? If getting back together with him means that she won't get a spot as The Bachelorette, you can bet they are going to stay separated until she gets her other 15 minutes of fame.
11 Mel B And Stephen Belafonte
They'd been married for 10 years. But now, Mel B is calling in quits. The former Spice Girl filed divorce papers on March, citing "irreconcilable differences" as the reason for the split. The court documents reveal that Mel, 41, is seeking joint custody of the couple's five-year-old daughter, Madison.
The interesting thing about this divorce is that not weeks earlier, Mel B posted a pic of her kissing Stephen's cheek on Instagram and wrote, "My baby boo @stephenthinks11 we have been through everything that would normally tear couples apart and we have come out on the other side stronger, you loved me before I even knew how to really love myself, you are my world honey."
Most Mel B fans know that this marriage had it's reported issues—from abuse allegations to rumored splits to a hostage report. This one was rocky at best.
10 Hilary Duff And Matthew Koma/Jason Walsh
After Hilary Duff divorced former hockey player Mike Comrie, she's been busy on the dating scene. She even joked about using Tinder as a way to meet guys. Then, she got into a relationship with musician Matthew Koma that lasted all of about three months. She then moved back into a relationship with personal trainer Jason Walsh, but that appears to be off too.
Sources say that both of these breakups boil down to busy schedules, and all parties are saying that they are single as they go off and do their own respective things. Hilary calls herself a terrible dater, and the way she seems to flock to social media to post her photos and then each relationship almost immediately ends is a sign that she may be right.
9 Andrew Garfield And Emma Stone
The star of Hacksaw Ridge was dating the star of La La Land for a while, and the two have since split but seem very much on-board to remain close and support each other's careers in a major way. This one isn't so much two stars being on a break, but realizing they are much better friends than they are people dating each other.
Emma and Andrew split in 2015 after dating for four years. Despite going their separate ways, the two are still the closest of friends and can be seen publicly supporting one another. When Stone won the Golden Globe for La La Land, Garfield stood up in the middle of the room and gave her a standing ovation.
Garfield has gone on to suggest that in Hollywood, there isn't much in the way of true friendship, but that he's one of the lucky ones to have a handful of people that he believes he's truly tight with. Emma Stone is at the top of that list.
8 Liev Schreiber And Naomi Watts
Liev Schreiber and Naomi Watts were not only together for eleven years, but they had two children together—two sons (nine-year-old Alexander and seven-year-old Samuel). They separated toward the end of 2016 and while they remain close, both called the changes scary.
Schreiber stated, "But, you know, we're parents together so we'll be together for the rest of our lives no matter what and, um, we're very close. Hopefully, that never changes and I don't think it will."
If anyone can, these two seem like parents who could make this sort of arrangement work. Liev took a role in a theater production just to stay closer to his kids in New York. He stated that he doesn't get to see them as much as he'd like, but it's something he's working on.
7 Brad Pitt And Angelina Jolie
Okay, I realized that almost everyone knew both about the fact that these two were in a relationship and most people were aware that they had split. That said, the news is so big that it can't really be ignored on our list. Their breakup reached so many people that Adele actually dedicated an entire concert to them after she'd heard the news, calling it the "end of an era."
The Hollywood golden couple announced in September of 2016 that they were splitting after two years of marriage and a 12-year romance. Angelina filed for divorce, citing irreconcilable differences and asked for physical custody of their six children. She also requested that Brad be granted child visitation rights and joint legal custody.
The split shocked a lot of people, even good friend George Clooney, who found out during an interview with a CNN reporter who had informed him (not Brad himself).
6 Johnny Depp And Amber Heard
Depp and Heard splitting was one of the most explosive breakups in Hollywood. It's actually quite interesting that it didn't get more press. That's possibly because it was surrounded by news that Depp was broke after making hundreds of millions of dollars acting in some of the world's most successful movies.
About a year ago, Johnny and Amber seemed to be heading towards an ugly court trial, with both sides making accusations against each other as photos and videos surfaced of their alleged fights. Heard had taken out a restraining order on Depp and the claims were so bad that ex-wife of Depp, Vanessa Paradis, felt like she had to come to his aid.
Paradis explained that in all the 14 years she and Depp were together, he was nothing but a sensitive loving person. She believed the allegations to be outrageous.
5 Janet Jackson And Wissam Al Mana
Janet and Wissam split after five years of marriage and just three months after welcoming their first child (son), Eissa. There are conflicting reports about this breakup. Some suggest the split was amicable while others are suggesting that Janet called Wissam way too controlling during her pregnancy.
Perhaps Janet is too picky? Wissam is the famous Jackson daughter's third husband. She was previously married to singer James DeBarge and dancer Rene Elizondo. Janet took to social media to tell her fans about their split and then immediately went on to announce more tour dates. I guess she's okay with everything. "I'm so excited, you guys, so excited. I decided to change the name of the tour—State of the World Tour," she shared. "It's not about politics, it's about people, the world, relationships and just love…I cannot wait to see you on stage. September 7th." She moved on pretty quick.
4 Scarlett Johansson And Romain Dauriac
Scarlett Johansson is largely viewed as one of the hottest women in Hollywood, so this split will not break many hearts. She and her French journalist husband announced their split in January of 2017, but had reportedly been broken up since summer. With a daughter now three years old, the two fought over custody of Rose after she was born.
In an effort to keep things quiet, Johansson said, "As a devoted mother and private person and with complete awareness that my daughter will one day be old enough to read the news about herself, I would only like to say that I will never, ever be commenting on the dissolution of my marriage. Out of respect for my desires as a parent and out of respect for all working moms, it is with kindness that I ask other parties involved and the media to do the same. Thank you."
3 Katy Perry And Orlando Bloom
Early in 2017, Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom called it quits. Their reps released a statement saying, "Before rumors or falsifications get out of hand, we can confirm that Orlando and Katy are taking respectful, loving space at this time." The two were an item for almost a year.
It's probably for the best that these two aren't together anymore anyway. Their idea of a good time was Orlando paddling up a river while completely in the buff and letting his junk hang out for all the world to see. Katy Perry appeared to act like it was a totally normal behavior. Perry appears to have gone off the deep end with her recent Saturday Night Live performance and that relationship would have been a train wreck.
2 Amy Schumer And Ben Hanisch
After nearly two years together (they got together in December 2015), Amy Schumer and Ben Hanisch broke up, and their reps said the two were working on staying close friends and that the decision was mutual. They had been seen as recently together at the Golden Globe Awards in January.
It's not certain, but the best guess is that Schumer's career taking off and all was causing problems for the couple. She was busy promoting her movie Snatched with Goldie Hawn, and Schumer has become a hot commodity in Hollywood rather quickly. That doesn't always sit well with other halves who are not used to the crazy lifestyle that Hollywood can demand. This is all speculation, of course. For all we know, Schumer may have decided she's just funnier single.
1 Demi Lovato And Guilherme "Bomba" Vasconcelos
Demi Lovato is a Grammy Nominee and Vasconcelos in as MMA fighter. Seems like the perfect match, right? They were first linked as an item in July of 2016 when they "hooked up." They got back together, tried to work things out, but then eventually grew apart. Lovato called it an undramatic split. The relationship simply ran its course.
The two posted cute little pictures of their relationship all over Instagram and social media. Lovato was also on Ellen and blushed about how cute her boyfriend was. It didn't take long for something to come up. The next thing you know, the two are no longer an item. After making the announcement, neither one of them made much mention of their relationship publicly. These are two that could get back together as they seem kind of like an "on and off again" thing.
