We all know that celebrities can be shady and sometimes their shadiness knows no bounds. However, there are times when celebrities are sneaky about being shady and can make a jab at another celeb that you may not even notice at first. Sure, anyone can start a feud on Twitter or any other kind of social media, but sometimes all it takes is a look or a quick remark to really do damage. Over the years, countless celebrities have called out other celebs for various reasons in interviews, social media, on the red carpet, or even on stage, but the classier celebs throw shade so subtly that you almost miss it.

For almost a hundred years, celebrities have been feuding with each other and sometimes these feuds appear to be dramatized and sensationalized for the media. For example, the feud between Bette Davis and Joan Crawford or the feuds between Mariah Carey and almost everyone, most notably Jennifer Lopez. Sometimes these feuds are used as a strategy to stay relevant, gain new followers, and build a brand, but the best feuds are the ones that are so well hidden that they aren't even covered but the media.

There are some celebrities who have mastered the art of shadiness and they can throw shade so quickly and efficiently that you may not have picked up on it. Whether it's an eye-roll, a glare, a side-eye, or an off-handed remark, these celebs are professionals at throwing shade where shade is due.

The Iconic Side-Eye

When it comes to side-eyes, no one is more iconic than Sophia Loren. In this famous photo, Loren gives Jayne Mansfield and her exposed breasts the side-eye. Decades later, Loren said that it wasn't a look of judgment but it was actually a look of fear, saying, "I’m staring at her n*****s because I am afraid they are about to come onto my plate." Jayne Mansfield was not taken very seriously as an actress because she was not only a Playboy Playmate but she was often publicized for her frequent wardrobe malfunctions and many considered her to be a cheap copy of Marilyn Monroe. However, Mansfield had a successful film career before she was killed in a car crash when she was only 34. Loren may have joked about Mansfield's nipples but she also said that she has never signed a copy of this photo out of respect for her.

Kanye Stood Up For Art

Last year, Taylor Swift infamously said that she wanted to be left out of a narrative that she hadn't wanted to be in since 2009 and it's hard to believe that it's been almost nine years since that "narrative" actually began. Who can forget the moment when Kanye West interrupted the "Love Song" singer as she was accepting her award to announce that Beyonce was the one who deserved the award. While this was happening, Beyonce could be seen saying "No, no, no!" off-stage and she later said that she was embarrassed and also felt bad for Taylor. However, Beyonce did manage to make a subtle dig at Taylor when she said that Kanye was "standing up for art." This could be taken as a perfectly harmless comment about Kanye standing up for what he believed art to be or it could be some serious shade about Taylor's music not being as creative and artistic as her own.

Heads Will Roll

Kate Middleton always seems perfectly put together at all times but a camera once captured a rare moment in which the duchess was acting very unladylike. The Duchess of Cambridge helped wrap gifts at a children's center in New York when she was told by a supervisor to "keep wrapping" when she was in the middle of a chat. Keep in mind, this is Kate Middleton here. She's not the kind of woman who is used to anyone telling her what to do so the fact that she only rolled her eyes is a testament to her patience. Chastising a duchess and wife of a prince who is second in the line of succession to the British throne was probably something you could have been beheaded for a couple hundred years ago. This shady eye-roll is the right reaction to being rudely bossed around and it's nice to know that a duchess reacts the same way we would.

Kim Kardashian Gets Kicked Off

When Prince passed away in 2016, everyone collectively reminisced about the time when he kicked Kim Kardashian off the stage during one of his concerts. This was back in 2011 when Kim was still with Kris Humphries and she definitely wasn't the Kim K we know today. During Prince's show, Kim was pulled up on stage and the "Little Red Corvette" singer started dancing to a song while she just stood there awkwardly. She smiled and clapped a bit before Prince told her to "get off the stage." When this video resurfaced, Kim was quick to defend herself, writing, "I was so nervous I froze when Prince touched me!!!!" As well as being a successful singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and producer, he was also the best when it came to subtly throwing shade and, in this case, Prince didn't even recognize Kim Kardashian which makes it all the more shady.

No Clapping

When Casey Affleck won an Oscar for his performance in Manchester By the Sea this past year, he was presented the award by Brie Larson who notably did not clap for the actor along with everyone else. This may not seem like a big deal but considering that he has been sued by two separate women for sexual harassment (and settled out of court), it's obvious why the Academy Award-winning actress would make a point not to clap and why it speaks volumes. However, the Kong: Skull Island star has been quiet about her reasoning behind her choice to not clap, stating that it "kind of spoke for itself" and that she was done speaking about the topic. Considering that her career is still just in its beginning stages, not clapping for a seasoned actor who also happens to have some powerful and influential friends and relatives is a risky move on her part but if there is anyone in Hollywood who deserves shade, it's Casey Affleck.

Diva Vs. Diva

We all know that Pink and Christian Aguilera don't like each other very much and there have been several instances involving the two throwing shade at each other and it is very entertaining to watch. One great moment of shadiness happened when Pink made a mistake during one of her shows and she joked that she, "sounded like Christina Aguilera." This is definitely one of her more subtle digs at the "Dirrty" singer though she recently made headlines when she was caught scowling during Christina's tribute to Whitney Houston at the AMAs. Does Xtina deserve this shade? According to Pink, their feud had once gotten so bad that Christina actually tried to hit her in the face at a bar so it is very possible that she deserves it. Whatever the state their feud is in, it's pretty clear that the two won't be collaborating on new music anytime soon.

Miley Cyrus Sheds A Tear

A year after Miley's infamous twerking performance, she was the subject of some shady behavior again. When she won an award for her song "Wrecking Ball" she sent a homeless man to accept it on her behalf for some reason. Katy Perry and Sam Smith were not at all impressed by Miley's stint and they both give her a side-eye as she looks up at the stage affectedly and wipes a tear off her face. Come on, Miley, you're not Marlon Brando. Katy and Sam threw the perfect amount of shade to convey exactly how unimpressed they were while also being discreet enough to not attract a lot of attention to themselves. We could all learn a lot from them. Again, Miley deserved the shady side-eye because there is nothing more pretentious than acting like you care about the homeless by letting a homeless person accept an award for you.

Don't Mess With Posh

David Beckham and Victoria Beckham are one of the hottest celebrity couples around but not even their seemingly blissful life is drama-free all the time. While at a basketball game together, the soccer star was caught staring at a cheerleader's backside while he thought no one was looking. However, Posh Spice caught her husband's eye wandering and shot him a shady look. Not even the polar ice cap is as cold as Posh's ice cold glare. The shadiness was subtle and swift and it's obvious that David knew right away that he had made a big mistake. He was caught looking the other way with a face that reads "I messed up" while Posh gave him the cold shoulder. This may not be the shadiest thing Posh has ever done but it's a short and sweet moment of shade and it is definitely the most entertaining thing that has happened during a basketball game.

The Side-Eyes Have It

There is no doubt that Nicki Minaj is giving Demi Lovato a side-eye at the 2016 Met Gala but there hasn't appeared to be any bad blood between the two ladies beforehand. Though it may have just been an accidental side-eye, it doesn't help that Nicki tagged Jeremy Scott in the photo that she posted of the three of them but did not tag Demi. The former Disney star noticed this and went to Snapchat to voice her concerns while also insisting that it didn't bother her at all. The "Anaconda" rapper was mysteriously silent about the entire situation and just let Demi continue to rant about the situation on social media until she finally quit. Just from looking at this photo, it seems obvious that Nicki is throwing shade at Demi and the fact that she didn't speak up to say that she didn't mean to or that it was a misunderstanding is very mysterious and also very on brand for her.

Not Impressed

When Miley Cyrus twerked at the 2013 VMAs, the scandal broke the internet... and also broke Robyn Thicke's marriage. However, the best part of the night wasn't Miley making a full of herself on stage with a man almost twice her age–it was the reactions that she got from famous onlookers. While Louis Tomlinson, Niall Horan, and Harry Styles watch the performance, they each have the same bewildered look on their face but it was Rihanna's reaction that was the shadiest. The "Work" singer never said a word about her thoughts on the former Disney star's performance but the look on her face spoke louder than words. She didn't appear at all enthused or shocked by the performance and, instead, looked like she was bored and maybe a little nauseated by it. Miley's twerking may be one of the most infamous performances at the VMAs but Rihanna's reaction is equally as memorable.

Michelle Obama Is All Of Us

The 2017 Presidential Inauguration was a difficult day for many people but it was Michelle Obama's shady reactions that helped get everyone through. The former First Lady made waves in the media when she not only appeared to give the new president the side-eye but also for shooting a pained expression toward the camera when she accepted a gift from Melania Trump. According to Mrs. Obama, she was overwhelmed with emotions on the day that she would be leaving the White House for good and she didn't want anyone to think that her facial expressions were malicious or that they were directed toward the president and the First Lady. However, it's hard not to look at her expressions and think that there is at least a little bit of shadiness behind them. According to Trevor Noah, "Throughout the day, Mrs. Obama's face was the barometer for most of America's feelings."

Taylor Doesn't Care For P.D.A.

Instead of being the subject of the shade, Taylor Swift is the one throwing it when she saw Selena Gomez cuddling up with her boyfriend Justin Bieber at the Billboard Music Awards in 2013. As Taylor passed by the couple packing on the P.D.A., she stuck out her tongue like she was disgusted by them. Though she may have just been grossed out by the P.D.A., it's very likely that she just really doesn't like Justin Bieber--or maybe she doesn't like Selena and Justin together. Selena and Justin may be seeing each other again now but they had a rocky relationship for a few years before they finally broke it off. It can be hard to see a friend in a toxic relationship that they just can't pull themselves away from. Though we may not know the reasoning behind Taylor's reaction, we do know that the "Look What You Made Me Do" singer is capable of being subtle with her shade...instead of writing a whole album full of it.

Instagram Shade

Selena became the subject of derision again when she posted a sexy bikini selfie on her Instagram and Miley was having none of it. In what appeared to be a response to the selfie, the "Wrecking Ball" singer posted a photo of her own that looked almost the same as Selena's but with the caption: "Do yiew tink if I push muah titties up I’ll get mo followahhhzzzz? #shouldigrowmyhairout?" Though Miley didn't explicitly diss Selena, it's pretty obvious who she was referring to with this shady post. Miley may have dissed the "Bad Liar" singer because she was jealous of Selena's 22 million followers considering that she only had 15 million at the time. These two are acting just like the characters they played on Hannah Montana, Mikaela and Hannah, who were both famous pop stars who hated each other for some reason.

Big Little Eye Roll

Like Kate Middleton, Nicole Kidman is not the kind of woman who is used to being told what to do or being chastised so when Giada De Laurentiis implied that she didn't cook, the Oscar-winning actress wasn't having it. In response to the derision, the Big Little Lies star rolled her eyes and raised her eyebrows in a shady (but also classy way) and it was the best reaction she could give. De Laurentiis seemed to pick up on the fact that she had pissed off the iconic actress so she tried to backtrack by saying, "The woman who can't cook made the perfect ball!" Which is also kind of a dig. Nicole Kidman has an Oscar and one of the most impressive filmographies in Hollywood so she shouldn't be chastised for not having time for cooking. After all, when you're a celebrity, you can just pay people to cook for you.

I Don't Know Her

There are few things on this earth that are shadier than the words, "I don't know her." It all started with Mariah Carey back in the early 2000s when she was asked about Jennifer Lopez and she just smiled and said, "I don't know her." This is the ultimate dig in the post-Google world because it's literally never been easier to know who someone is. There is no better way to shut down a celebrity's ego by saying that you've never heard of them.  To this day, Mariah continues to say that she doesn't know who J.Lo is and has even said the same thing of the newest divas: Ariana Grande and Demi Lovato. This is the thing that you should say about anyone who you don't like and who doesn't like you. If someone insults you, talks about you behind your back, or disrespects you in any way just shake your head, smile, and say, "I don't know her." You will feel a million times better.
