15 Celebrities Who Got Hot Once They Got Curves

We spend a lot of time talking about celebrity weight loss. Many people are often fascinated by the way the bodies of celebrities are constantly changing. It can be argued that there’s even a whole industry around this phenomenon. Most of the time, we’re focusing on how celebrities lose weight, sometimes getting incredible bodies as a result. However, the world is so focused on weight loss that weight gain is often seen as totally unhealthy. As a result of that, people who gain weight and attain incredible bodies that way are often overlooked, or worse, they’re seen as “letting themselves go” when the opposite is true. While going on about another person’s body isn’t the most productive thing to do with our time, seeing how these celebrities have changed for the better over the years by gaining weight is kind of fascinating, especially considering our thin-obsessed culture.

Some of the women on this list were some of the thinnest women in Hollywood, only to gain weight for health or other reasons. The great bodies they achieved, as a result, was just a side effect of that. Others were always at what could be considered a “healthy” weight and ended up gaining weight thanks to pregnancy or preparing for a specific role, then decided that it was more important to live their lives than taking the weight off right away. Still, others made their changes, not at the gym, but in a surgeon’s office, and ended up with bodies that are constantly admired. Regardless, all of these women are beautiful in their own way, they just happen to look better with a few pounds on rather than off. Here are fifteen women who gained weight and look better than ever.

15. Natalie Portman

Natalie Portman isn’t just known for being a beautiful and talented actress, she’s known for being really thin. She’s still thin by our standards today, but back in 2010, she lost 20 pounds and endured a lot of agony in order to play a prima ballerina in Black Swan. She was already really thin before going on the diet, and while she won an Oscar for the role, it came at a heavy cost: her health. “There were some nights that I thought I literally was going to die,” she said of her diet of carrots and almonds and eight hour days of rehearsals. She told Entertainment Weekly that being in the film was draining for her, both physically and emotionally. “It was the first time I understood how you could get so wrapped up in a role that it could sort of take you down.” Thankfully, she’s put that weight back on and is much healthier now. Not only does she look better, she seems happier, too.

14. Keira Knightley

Keira Knightley is another waif-life celebrity that has been simultaneously celebrated for that thinness and treated like she was sick because of it. She takes eating disorders like anorexia seriously because she has a history of them in her family. “I’ve got a lot of experience with anorexia. My grandmother and my great-grandmother suffered from it and I had a lot of friends at school who suffered from it, so I don’t think it’s anything to be taken lightly,” she told Express. She’s also gone on record about hating diets and not really sticking to one. “The very thought of a diet makes me want chips and ice cream, and I just hate going to the gym,” she said on the subject. Recently, she’s gained a little weight and she looks much better for it!

13. Paris Hilton

Before the Kardashians dominated reality TV, the airwaves used to belong to the Hiltons. Paris Hilton and her sister Nicky were all over TV and tabloids across America, and part of the reason they were so famous was their thinness. Now it’s 2017 and curvy figures are what’s in, and it appears Paris has recognized that. She gained a little weight in 2011, which attracted a lot of attention. She lost weight more recently, but she’s never returned to the stick-thin figure she was when she was on TV. Her mom was the one who gave her a wakeup call about her hard-partying lifestyle and its effects on her health. “She would be like, ‘You’re way too skinny. It doesn’t look good,’” Hilton recalls. “I said, ‘Mom, everyone is skinny in Hollywood. It’s just the way it is.’ And she’s like, ‘No. It’s not normal.’” She ended up gaining 20 pounds but then was plagued with pregnancy rumors despite the fact that she was still 125 pounds. “Even if I’m a few pounds overweight, people will be like, ‘Oh, she’s fat,’” says Hilton. “And it’s not fair that it’s like that, but it is.” She’s right: she looked great at 125 pounds and it says a lot about our society that that’s where the paparazzi went with that.

12. Angelina Jolie

If it’s not Angelina Jolie’s romantic relationships landing her in the tabloids, it’s her relationship with weight and food. Her weight has oscillated between thin and extremely thin throughout her career, and the constant fluctuations have been enough for people to raise real concerns about Jolie’s health. It turns out that Angelina Jolie wasn’t always in perfect health: she recently revealed that she once suffered from Bell’s palsy. She’s also gone on record about her struggles with cancer, getting a double mastectomy when she found out she carried a gene that made it more likely for her to get breast cancer and had her ovaries removed two years later for the same reason. Her interview with Vanity Fair recently went public, and it was there that she talked about her struggles with her health and recent divorce from Brad Pitt.”I was very worried about my mother, growing up — a lot. I do not want my children to be worried about me,” Jolie told the magazine. “I think it’s very important to cry in the shower and not in front of them. They need to know that everything’s going to be all right even when you’re not sure it is.” While Jolie’s weight should be an afterthought, we can agree that she looks much better and more healthy when she’s heavier rather than thinner.

11. Emma Stone

Emma Stone started out her career a bit less thin than she eventually became. It’s hard not to remember her as super thin since that’s how she’s been since she became an A-lister. However, her recent turn in La la Land meant that she had to gain a lot more stamina in order to sing and dance well It worked, since she won an Oscar for the role, but now that she’s about to play Billie Jean King in her biopic about the tennis player’s match against Bobby Riggs, she needed to take this a step further. Thanks to extensive exercise and training (including deadlift training), she gained fifteen pounds of solid muscle, and it shows. She showed up to the Oscars this year in top shape, and we have to concede that Stone has never looked better.

10. Khloe Kardashian

Khloe Kardashian‘s body has transformed more than once since she rose to fame. She’s the tall Kardashian sister, and there was a point where she the biggest weight-wise. Unlike many women in Hollywood, Khloe didn’t start off especially thin. Unfortunately, that’s not really a good thing. She lost a lot of weight after her split with Lamar Odom, talking about how she never expected to be “the fitness Kardashian,” so to speak. “If you were to ask me five years ago if I ever saw myself being completely in love with fitness and health, that I would be an inspiration to many others, that I would be the push that others needed to find their way, I would’ve laughed in your face,” Khloe wrote. “Me? The chubby one? No way!” She went on to host a show called Revenge Body that premiered to a lot of controversies. She’s starting to gain the weight back thanks to her new relationship, and personally, she looks a lot better when she’s bigger. She has a unique look compared to the other Kardashians and she looks best when she embraces that.

9. Mila Kunis

Mila Kunis has gone on record saying that losing weight is easy. However, she didn’t do it the healthy way. In order to lose weight for her part in Black Swan, a movie that significantly raised Kunis’ profile in Hollywood, she was restricted to 1,200 calories a day and lots and lots of cigarettes. Now, she’s admitting that she didn’t lose the weight in a good way.”I had to look skinny in order to look like a ballerina,” she explains. “You fake it. So, the best way to fake it is to, unfortunately, look like it.” She’s clear that she’d never advocate a diet like that, and from what we can tell, she’d never want to do it again. She’s gained the weight back, and although she’s still thin, she looks much healthier.

8. Kim Kardashian

Kim Kardashian probably owes much of her empire to her weight gain. This is why her body is often talked about: she’s constantly showing it off on social media and in other places. After giving birth to her son Saint, she lost over forty pounds very quickly, documenting her progress on Instagram. Her goal was to lose 70 pounds, covering her baby weight and an extra ten pounds, and by April 2016, she was back down to her pre-pregnancy weight, and by 2017, she’d be thinner than she was in 2010. While Kim tends to look good no matter what, we actually like her better when she’s a bit heavier. The thinner she gets, the less natural she looks, and that’s when she looks like she’s had way more work done than she actually has.

7. Hilary Duff

Hilary Duff‘s weight has fluctuated throughout her career, but recently her weight has gone up and in a good way. After spending a lot of time out of the general spotlight, someone finally noticed that Hilary Duff had a backside to rival that of any A-lister today. That made everyone wonder how they failed to notice Hilary Duff’s body before. When she was thinner, she looked a lot like all the other starlets walking the red carpet, but now that she’s a bit thicker, she looks great! She’s also gone on record saying that she spent too much time thinking about what her body looked like when she was thinner, and now she’s more focused on what she can do than how she looks. “I feel like there was way too much time spent thinking about that,” she said in 2014. “This is the body that I have. I have a very athletic build, and I am so proud of what my body has done for me.”

6. Amber Rose

Unlike many of the women on this list, Amber Rose’s weight has stayed pretty consistent over the years she’s been in the spotlight. She lost a little weight and gained a little weight, but from what we can tell, she’s looked the same throughout her time in the spotlight. Recently, Amber Rose gained 25 pounds, to the surprise of those who happen to care about her weight. That led everyone to start calling her fat for no good reason. Not only does Amber Rose look better with that 2 pounds on, she’s one of the lucky people who gains weight that goes right to her curves and not to any of her more wobbly bits. Those 25 pounds made her more stacked than ever, which is really saying something considering it’s Amber Rose we’re talking about here.

5. Demi Lovato

Demi Lovato‘s weight has been the subject of many conversations over the years thanks to her going public with her eating disorder and taking pride in her body. She gained about thirty pounds after her stint in rehab to recover from said eating disorder, but over the last year or so, she’s been steadily losing weight. However, she’s doing it in a much healthier way and not allowing her weight-loss journey to determine how she feels about herself. “I’ve learned to appreciate my body for what it is. It helps to remind myself how far I’ve come,” she told Fitness magazine. “I recently saw pictures from my first tour, and I spent that whole summer performing in the heat in a red leather jacket because I was ashamed to show my arms. And that was when I was 105 pounds!” Many people were really mean about her weight gain following her stint in rehab, but she only had one thing to say to them: “I’ve gained weight. Get over it.” That has to be our favorite Demi Lovato.

4. Christina Aguilera

Christina Aguilera rose to fame as one of the thinnest pop stars of the nineties. In September of 2000 she was almost too thin, but by her third album, she was starting to fill out in all the right places. Her weight fluctuated for years until 2010, when she was the heaviest we’d ever seen her. However, she honestly looked better in 2010 than she did in 2000. At the beginning of her career, she almost looked sickly, but when she was curvier she looked much more healthy and considering Hollywood’s low threshold for thinness, she really wasn’t all that curvy, to begin with! She was at her curviest in 2012, and she could not have looked better then. She’s lost a little weight since then, but she’s never returned to the waif-life figure she had when she first started releasing music, and for that we are thankful.

3. Nicki Minaj

Nicki Minaj‘s “before” photos of her before she rose to fame as a rapper are very hard to come by, but the ones that have surfaced show that Nicki was really thin. Whether she gained weight the old fashioned way or did it via plastic surgery is irrelevant: the fact remains that her curvier body has become iconic in its own way. Last year, she gained a bit more weight and the internet decided that she was fat when that really couldn’t have been less true. Even if she has gained weight, her proportions are the same and her waist is still as tiny as it ever was. If anything, her weight gain made her even curvier, to the point where we can say that she looks better with the weight on than with the weight off!

2. Selma Blair

Selma Blair has always been thin, but she put on some baby weight after giving birth to her son Arthur that she had yet to lose even two years later. She spent some time out of the spotlight for awhile but came back in a big way when she surfaced looking much thinner than anyone had ever seen her in years. She’d been out of the spotlight for awhile but came back to prominence when she was cast as Kris Jenner in The People Against O.J. Simpson, playing opposite David Schwimmer’s Robert Kardashian. Previously, she’d worried everyone when she’d surfaced after losing her baby weight looking literally like skin and bones. I don’t know about you, but we like Selma a lot better when she’s not skin and bones.

1. Kelly Clarkson

Kelly Clarkson started off thin enough, but after having her first child, she gained weight and couldn’t quite seem to keep it off. The tabloids constantly targeted her for this, and it got worse after she had her second child. Her weight gain is treated like the biggest thing about her, despite the fact that she’s an accomplished singer and a great mom. Personally, she looks far better bigger than she did smaller. She doesn’t seem to be all that invested in weight loss, choosing instead to continue to make hit records and be a mom to her kids. She’s spoken out against body-shaming too, so she might be becoming a new kind of icon who using their considerable influence to speak out against the contradiction that is commenting on a person’s weight gain or loss. Regardless of what a person looks like in Hollywood, they’re going to get flack for it, so people should just look how they want. We think Kelly has never looked better and that she shouldn’t have to lose weight if she doesn’t want to.
