15 Big Names That Fired Celebs After They Hit Rock Bottom

Most of us have been fired at some point or another, and we all know that it's the worst. However, while getting fired from your job at the grocery store or fast food restaurant may seem awful, imagine getting fired from a blockbuster movie, a hit TV show, or your own company.

We all know that celebrities aren't perfect and even they can get fired. If 2017 has taught us anything it's that most celebrities are actually creeps and now these famous creeps are finally getting the justice that they deserve by getting fired from their lucrative jobs and roles. Most of these celebrities assumed that they were too big and too powerful to ever get caught and they learned the hard way that you get what you pay for.

However, there are plenty of celebrities who were fired not because they were creeps but because they did or said the wrong thing at the wrong time. With Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Snapchat, it's easier than ever for celebrities to get their problematic opinions and offensive comments out and seen by millions of people. Though they have the right to write and speak about what they believe in, their employers also have the right to fire them for it. If a celebrity is representing a brand or a franchise, it's best for them to just keep their mouth shut if they want to keep their job.

Then, of course, there are the celebrities who have gotten into trouble with drugs and alcohol and it ended up costing them their job and their good reputation. Ever since the beginning of Hollywood, stars have lost everything because of their addictions and it's heartbreaking to see them throw away their lives and talent because they weren't able to get the help they needed. These are the stars who hit rock bottom and were fired because of it.

15 The Food Networked Dumped Paula Deen After Her Racist Side Was Exposed

via Radar Online

Paula Deen is a white grandmother from the south so no one should be surprised that she is not the most delicate person when it comes to race--but when she was caught saying the N-word in a leaked recording, everyone was shocked. Apparently, Deen thought it would be a fun idea to hire black waiters to look like "slaves" for a pre-Civil War era themed wedding. In her deposition, she was asked if she had ever said the N-word and she replied, "Yes, of course." Though she claimed that it was mostly in the context of jokes and that she didn't discriminate when it came to jokes and she would make jokes about "Jewish people, rednecks, black folks."

She was promptly fired from the Food Network and lost endorsement deals with Smithfield Foods, Caesars Entertainment, J.C. Penney, Sears, QVC, Target, and Walmart. Oh, and she has a photo of herself dressed as Lucy and her son in brownface dressed as Ricky Ricardo so it definitely seems like she needs some sensitivity training.

14 Kellogg's Fired Michael Phelps After The "Controversial" Photo Went Viral

via US Weekly

Michael Phelps was on top of the world after making history at the 2008 Olympics and then it all came crashing down on him when a controversial picture of him smoking a bong went viral and landed on the cover of a British tabloid. He was suspended from the USA Swimming team for three months for violating the organization's code of conduct. He also lost a major sponsorship deal with Kellogg's, which has featured Phelps on its Frosted Flakes and Corn Flakes cereal boxes. He was suspended yet again in 2014 when he was arrested for driving under the influence but this time it was for six months. However, he got back on his feet and made America proud by making comeback at the 2016 Olympics and breaking records once again. Then he was finally able to retire on his own terms.

13 Hollywood Fires Harvey Weinstein When Harassment Accusations Pour In

via Entertainment Tonight

The toppling of Harvey Weinstein created a domino effect in Hollywood that is still going strong and after dozens of men were disgraced and fired for their perverted ways, it's hard to believe that it all started just a few months ago in October. It has been an open secret in Hollywood that Weinstein was a predator but because he was a big Hollywood producer, many were afraid to come forward with their stories. Finally, after three decades of abuse, a New York Times article was published which detailed the stories of women who he assaulted, including Rose McGowan and Ashley Judd. After the story ran and he was finally outed for being a predator, his wife left him, he was forced to resign from the board of his own company and is facing criminal charges that could land him in prison for a long time. Let's hope he stays behind bars for a very, very long time.

12 NBC News Gives Matt Lauer The Axe

via CNN Money

The most recent disgraced celebrity, Matt Lauer, was fired from NBC News after an employee filed a complaint about "inappropriate sexual behavior in the workplace" and that the behavior had been going on since the Winter Olympics in 2014. Allegations and rumors of Lauer's inappropriate behavior have been going around for years though nothing had been done about it. Not even after Katie Couric said in an interview in 2012 that he "pinched" her butt a lot and a video from eleven years ago that was made public thanks to TMZ which depicted Lauer commenting on Meredith Vieira’s figure while she was bending over, saying, "Keep bending over like that. It’s a nice view.” Yikes. Most people who have experienced this kind of behavior in the workplace have long accepted it as a common occurrence that must be bravely weathered. Hopefully, the firing of creeps like Lauer will set a precedent in the future so this sort of thing is not such a common occurrence.

11 HBO Fired Paz After The World Saw Footage Of Her Being Escorted Out Of A Party

via Page Six

Though she had success as an actress on various films and HBO's Boardwalk Empire, Paz de la Huerta is best known for her antics which are all equally bizarre, baffling, and boozy. Though you might recognize her from her role in A Walk to Remember (although maybe not because she looks like a completely different person now thanks to plastic surgery), you might also recognize her as the wasted woman in the music video for Lana Del Rey's "Video Games". The clip used from the music video was actual footage of the actress being escorted out of the Golden Globes after-party for being too intoxicated. As much as HBO loves to cast actresses who don't have a problem getting naked for the camera, they decided enough was enough and fired her after one too many scandals. Recently, she appeared in the documentary My Scientology Movie which she just happened to crash.

10 'Too And A Half Men' Creators Killed Off Charlie's Character

via E News

For some reason or another, Two and a Half Men was once one of the biggest shows on TV and Charlie Sheen was making millions ($2 million an episode, in fact) and he might still be making millions if he hadn't had such a bizarre, public, and somehow epic meltdown that had everyone talking back in 2011. Though he had one of the cushiest jobs in Hollywood, Sheen just couldn't keep it together and after he made derogatory comments about the show, dodged rehab, continued to do cocaine, got arrested for domestic violence charges, trashed a Plaza hotel room, and was sued by a porn star, Warner Bros. decided that enough was enough and Sheen was fired from the show. The rest of the story--something about tiger blood, Adonis DNA, children weeping over exploding bodies, winning, and the Violent Torpedo of Truth Tour--just feels like a fever dream.

9 CNN Fired Kathy Griffith From Their NYE Program

via Daily Wire

Even if you don't like someone, posing for a picture while holding up their bloody, decapitated head is a vulgar way to get your point across. While many people share her feelings and opinions on Donald Trump, many were disturbed by her gruesome photo. While Kathy Griffin apologized for the photo, she was still fired from her gig on CNN’s New Year's Eve program and lost her endorsement deal with Squatty Potty. Apparently, Griffin didn't mean for the photo to be interpreted as a "threat of violence toward Trump" but you have to admit that it's a pretty violent picture. While it is important to speak up for what you believe in, you should always try to convey your opinions and beliefs without all of the blood. While she was being bashed and ridiculed for her photo, her career also took a big hit and time will tell if it ever recovers.

8 Netflix Fired Spacey From House Of Cards

via Vulture

Kevin Spacey has had a long and celebrated career but it was all tarnished after one horrifying accusation. There have been rumors for years about Spacey being a general creep and though he had never publicly come out as gay, he was known in Hollywood for having a long string of young male companions. When actor, Anthony Rapp, claimed that the Seven actor made advances toward him and actually laid on top of him at a party at Spacey's own house in 1986. Rapp was 14 at the time and Spacey was 26. Of course, Spacey said that he had no memory of the events (perpetrators rarely remember their abuse while victims carry it with them for years).

However, by this point, the damage was done for Spacey and his career and reputation came tumbling down when he was fired from House of Cards, the International Academy of Television Arts and Sciences announced that it would not be giving Spacey a special Emmy award, and he was completely cut out of Ridley Scott's movie All the Money in the World and replaced with Christopher Plummer.

7 She's Been Fired... A Lot

via Vanity Fair

At this point, Lindsay Lohan has been fired from too many movies to count. She made it big as a child star in The Parent Trap and continued to land starring roles in mainstream movies until about 2007 when her career began to slump. She was deemed as too big of a risk to star in big-budget movies and was fired from The Edge of Love and replaced by Sienna Miller in 2007 and then she was fired again from Poor Things when she got her second DUI. As the years went on, things didn't get any better for the Mean Girls star and she was fired from The Other Side in 2010 because she wasn't deemed "bankable" anymore and then she was fired yet again from the movie Inferno when she couldn't be insured. Though she was able to book a few movies here and there, she lost most of her jobs due to addiction and now she runs a nightclub in Greece.

6 His Costume Sent Him To The Hospital... Then He Was Fired

via Darlene Quinn

This particular story has to do with an actor from The Wizard of Oz but this particular actor did not make the cut. Buddy Ebsen, who you might know as Jed Clampett from The Beverly Hillbillies, was set to play the Tin Man in The Wizard of Oz and had already recorded his songs and gone to rehearsals. When filming started, he put on his costume for the first time and he was sent to the hospital after he had a bad reaction to the aluminum dust used in the Tin Man makeup. Because he was hospitalized when filming started, he was fired and quickly replaced with another actor and the hazardous makeup was replaced with a safer aluminum paste. Not only was he thrown under the bus by MGM, the whole event caused him to suffer from lung problems for the rest of his life.

5 RDJ Was Dropped From Ally McBeal Over His Substance Abuse Issues

via Slate

Robert Downey Jr. may be one of the highest-paid and most celebrated actors in Hollywood but it took him a while to get there. The Iron Man actor first starred in Pound, a movie directed by his father Robert Downey Sr., when he was just five years old and has been acting ever since. For years, he was known as a Hollywood bad boy as he struggled through substance abuse, arrests, rehab, and relapse. Finally, he landed a role on Ally McBeal in 2001 and America's Sweethearts but was fired from both after he was arrested on suspicion of being under the influence of drugs. This seemed to be a wake-up call for Downey because he quickly got his act together and has stayed away from drugs since 2003. Five years later, he was cast as Tony Stark in Iron Man and the rest is history.

4 Hollywood Was Behind Judy Garland's Addiction, And Then They Fired Her Because Of It

via The Center for the Humanities

Judy Garland may be an iconic Hollywood star but her life story reveals how brutal Hollywood is behind the scenes. When she first got her start in Hollywood, she was just a child and in order to keep child stars working, they would be given uppers in the morning to keep their energy up during the day and then they'd pop downers to go to sleep. While she was never considered pretty enough or thin enough to be the lead of a movie, she landed the part of Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz which turned her into a big movie star--though she had to smoke cigarettes every day in order to keep her weight down. As she aged, her addiction to pills and alcohol didn't go away and when she was cast in Valley of the Dolls in 1967, she was fired because of it. The character she was supposed to play in the movie was actually based on her: a brazen, aging starlet who desperately tried to cling to her youth and beauty though her glory days were far behind her.

3 Tambor's Co-Stars On Transparent Make Accusations, Then He Steps Down "Voluntarily"

via Zimbio

2017 has been a year of justice for creeps and perverts everywhere but some of those who have been accused are more surprising than others. Jeffrey Tambor was accused of harassment by his former personal assistant, a trans woman named Van Barnes which caused Amazon to open an investigation. During the investigation, it was revealed that Tambor's costar, Trace Lysette also accused him of inappropriate behavior toward her. In a statement, Tambor said that he could not continue working on Transparent due to the "politicized atmosphere" of the set and claimed that he is stepping down voluntarily--this might just be a nice way to say that he was fired. According to the showrunner, Jill Gordon, they plan to continue the show without their lead actor for season five. Maybe, just maybe, they will choose to move forward with the show with an actual trans woman as the lead this time.

2 Basically Louis C. K.'s Whole Professional Circle Dropped Him

via The Verge

For years, Louis C.K. faced harassment claims but, like all of the other creeps in Hollywood, he managed to get away with it--at least until 2017. In November, the New York Times ran a story in which five separate women accused the comedian of engaging in inappropriate acts in front of them and he confirmed that all of the stories were true. Just hours before the story ran, the comedian's scheduled appearance on Stephen Colbert’s show was canceled and the New York premiere of his new movie, I Love You, Daddy was canceled. His movie is an obvious nod to Woody Allen and the irony is not lost on us. In addition, he was dropped by his management company 3Arts Entertainment and he is no longer being represented by his publicist. Things are looking bad for C.K. right now and it would be a miracle if his career rebounded--a very disturbing and unwarranted miracle.

1 New York Daily News Lets Weiner Go, Then Weiner Goes To Jail

via Fox News

Anthony Weiner first made headlines when he accidentally tweeted an explicit photo that was meant for a woman other than his wife--and it's only gotten worse from there. Even when he was running for mayor of New York City, the former congressman kept getting caught for sexting scandals and when he was caught for the second time, he was fired from the public relations firm MWW. He was then fired from his contributor roles at both the New York Daily News and the television channel NY1 after he was caught sending lewd photos to a woman with his four-year-old son in the background. To make matters even worse for himself, he engaged in an online relationship and exchanged explicit messages and photos with a fifteen-year-old girl and was sentenced to 21 months in prison.
