While many people seem to think that almost anyone could be an actor, they are completely wrong. An actor’s job is not only tough but also demanding – it takes serious dedication to prepare for a role and serious self-discipline to overcome your own feelings towards the co-stars you hate.
You see, not all actors get along with their co-stars. Some of them are absolutely disgusted by each other and want nothing to do with one another. Unfortunately, staying away from a co-star you hate is not really possible especially if the two of you are playing lovers or best friends.
But professional actors know how to hide their hatred and repulsion. Even though an actor may hate his co-star, he or she will still do a great job and perhaps might even fool the audience into thinking that there is chemistry, not only between the characters but also between the actors themselves.
15 Tyrese Gibson Was Appalled By James Franco Actually Punching Him During A Scene
Apparently, back in the day the actor James Franco was not that nice to work with. Take Tyrese Gibson's confession for example – the two actors worked together in the 2006 film Annapolis and apparently, Franco could get quite violent.
Tyrese has said – “James Franco is a Method actor. I respect Method actors, but he never snapped out of character. Whenever we’d have to get in the ring for boxing scenes, and even during practice, the dude was full-on hitting me.”
Franco himself admitted that he used to go overboard when preparing for his roles – “It wasn’t even fun. It was a horrible way to work. I was miserable. I wanted to quit.”
14 Freddie Prinze Jr. Almost Quit Acting Because Of Kiefer Sutherland
The actor Freddie Prinze Jr. is best known for his roles in She’s All That and I Know What You Did Last Summer. Prinze Jr. is a great actor who seems to always get along with everybody. Everybody except Kiefer Sutherland that is.
Apparently, when Prinze Jr. was working alongside Sutherland in the 2010 TV series 24, he almost quit acting because Sutherland’s behavior disgusted him so much – “I did '24,' it was terrible. I hated every moment of it. Kiefer was the most unprofessional dude in the world. That's not me talking trash, I'd say it to his face, I think everyone that's worked with him has said that. I just wanted to quit the business after that. So, I just sort of stopped."
13 Claire Danes Was Repulsed By Leonardo DiCaprio’s Pranks
The 1996 film Romeo + Juliet is a favorite among many. No one can dispute the chemistry between the actress Claire Danes and Leonardo DiCaprio. However, while the two actors may have been lovers on screen they apparently did not get on in real life at all.
Danes was supposedly repulsed by DiCaprio’s constant pranks. DiCaprio, on the other hand, thought Danes was too uptight – “Danes allegedly became fed up with DiCaprio's habit of playing pranks on the cast and crew, while [DiCaprio] in his turn found Danes annoyingly reserved and uptight."
12 Kirsten Dunst Was Disgusted At Having To Kiss Brad Pitt
If an opportunity arose to kiss the actor Brad Pitt, most women would jump at it. Not Kirsten Dunst however. In a recent interview, she confessed that she found the idea and the act of kissing Pitt absolutely disgusting.
Of course, we should bear in mind that at the time of the kiss Dunst was only 11 years old. Dunst kissed Pitt during the shooting of the 1994 film Interview with the Vampire.
Dunst has said – “Everyone at the time was like, ‘You’re so lucky you kissed Brad Pitt,’ but I thought it was disgusting. I didn’t kiss anyone else until I was 16, I think. I was a late bloomer.”
11 Tony Curtis Said Marilyn Monroe Almost Choked Him To Death With Her Kiss
Some Like It Hot was a great movie that starred the sex symbol Marilyn Monroe and the talented actor Tony Curtis. In the film, Monroe’s character tries to seduce Curtis and the two end up kissing. It’s a great scene but apparently, it wasn’t that great to film.
Believe it or not, Curtis later said that kissing Monroe was “like kissing Hitler.” Even though the two actors had been lovers previously, the spark was apparently long gone by the time they were shooting Some Like It Hot – “It was awful. She nearly choked me to death by deliberately sticking her tongue down my throat…”
10 Patrick Swayze Was Annoyed By Jennifer Grey’s Emotional Instability
The 1987 film Dirty Dancing has become an iconic film. The two main characters in the film were Johnny and Baby, played by Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey. But while they may seem to be getting along just fine in the film, it wasn’t so easy in real life.
Apparently, Swayze was disgusted with Grey’s lack of professionalism and her emotional instability. In his memoir, Swayze confessed that he was impatient with Grey and did not appreciate having to constantly do retakes – “We did have a few moments of friction when we were tired or after a long day of shooting. [Grey] seemed particularly emotional, sometimes bursting into tears if someone criticized her. Other times, she slipped into silly moods, forcing us to do scenes over and over again when she'd start laughing."
See the photo of Grey laughing and Swayze looking exasperated above? Well, that’s not good acting – Swayze was actually annoyed because Grey could not hold in her giggles. The team later decided to use this blooper in the film.
9 Angelina Jolie Was Repulsed By Johnny Depp’s Oral Hygiene And Forced Him To Drink Listerine
Nowadays everyone knows that the actor Johnny Depp is not very good at taking care of himself, especially when it comes to hygiene. It is said that he often skips baths and does not care much for oral hygiene either.
As you can imagine, his co-stars find his lack of hygiene quite disturbing but few are brave enough to say anything to the iconic actor. The actress Angelina Jolie, however, was brave enough (and disgusted enough) to demand that Depp start using breath mints and Listerine before their kissing scenes.
8 Dane Cook Says Kate Hudson Ate “A Feast Of Onions” Before Their Kissing Scene
The actor Dane Cook and the actress Kate Hudson had undeniable chemistry in the 2008 film My Best Friend’s Girl. However, while their kissing scene may appear romantic on screen, Cook later revealed that it was far from romantic, or even bearable, in real life.
In an interview with Andy Cohen, Cook confessed that Hudson was awful to kiss and that in fact, she was his worst on-screen kiss ever in his career as an actor. He also said – “I think she purposely ate a feast of onions right before the scene. I had to burn her on that one.”
7 Thandie Newtown Said Kissing Tom Cruise Was "Icky"
Tom Cruise is a good looking man even if he does have weird beliefs. So you’d think that any actress would be happy to kiss the handsome actor. However, it seems that the opposite might be true – any actress might be lucky to avoid kissing Mission Impossible actor.
According to Thandie Newtown, who worked with Cruise on the second installment of Mission Impossible, kissing Cruise was absolutely awful because he is a terrible kisser – “Kissing Tom Cruise was slightly icky and sort of wet. I’d really go home at the end of the day actually moaning about how hot it was and how many times we had to do it.”
6 The Rock Bad-Mouthed Vin Diesel
In 2017, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson posted an angry rant on social media saying that he could not understand how some of his co-stars in the 2017 film The Fate of the Furious had such bad work ethic – “Some conduct themselves as stand up men and true professionals, while others don't. The ones that don't are too chicken s**t to do anything about it anyway. Candy as**s."
Of course, it soon became apparent that the actor whom the Rock was referring to as “candy a**” was none other than Vin Diesel. Apparently, the Rock was repulsed by Diesel’s bad behavior on set, such as his habit of showing up late.
5 Lea Michelle Was Repulsed By Naya Rivera’s Complaining
Apparently, it wasn’t just Fox’s Glee characters that did not get along – the stars behind the characters also hated each other. Take Lea Michele and Naya Rivera for example. The two were constantly feuding on set. Why? Well, according to Rivera, whenever she’d complain, Michele would assume she was b-tching about her.
Rivera revealed in her book Sorry not Sorry: Dreams, Mistakes and Growing Up – “If I'd complained about anyone or anything, she'd assumed I was b****ing about her…Soon, she started to ignore me, and eventually, it got to the point where she didn't say a word to me for all of Season 6. Lea and I definitely weren't the best of friends, and I doubt we'll ever sit on her couch and eat kale together again. I think Rachel—erm, I mean Lea—didn't like sharing the spotlight."
4 Reese Witherspoon Was Grossed Out By Robert Pattinson’s Runny Nose
Believe it or not, actors have to shoot scenes even when they’re not feeling a hundred percent. As you can imagine, sometimes that can result in real difficulties on set. Take Robert Pattinson for example. When he was shooting Water for Elephants with the actress Reese Witherspoon he suddenly developed a cold.
Still, even though Pattinson was feeling shook he was still expected to come to shooting, drippy nose or no drippy nose. Unfortunately, that day the team wanted to film a love scene between Pattinson and Witherspoon and as you can probably imagine it wasn’t pretty – “My nose is running all over the place, and it was in one of the additional photography scenes, and Reese had this wig on, and literally, I was wiping my nose on her wig.”
Witherspoon later described the shooting and the love scene as unappealing and unpleasant.
3 Dustin Hoffman Slapped Meryl Streep
The 1979 film Kramer vs. Kramer may have won an Oscar but it wasn’t the most pleasant film to shoot, at least not according to the actress Meryl Streep. In the film, Streep and her co-star Dustin Hoffman played a divorced couple and at times Hoffman got a little too physical, shocking and repulsing Streep.
In 2011 interview with CBS News, Streep confessed – “In [one] scene, he slapped me. When I see the movie [now], I see the imprint of his hand on [my face]—not in the take that they used, but I still see the hand in the previous take…I think [Hoffman is] very, very gifted, [but] it wasn't the most fun I've ever had on film."
2 Channing Tatum Was Disgusted That Alex Pettyfer Wouldn't Talk To Anyone
Pettyfer said – “I sat in the corner and listened to music because I'd been told that anything I do was wrong by my reps and I was very insecure as a human being. That also gave me a bad rep because they said, 'Oh Alex thinks he's f***ing better than everybody else because he doesn't speak to anyone.' And that's not true. I was genuinely nervous and scared to be myself."
However, even after the movie ended Tatum went on hating Pettyfer, and for good reason. Apparently, Pettyfer had rented an apartment from one of Tatum’s friends and forgot to pay the rent. Tatum then wrote Pettyfer an angry email telling him not to be “a clown.”
1 Robert Shaw Was Repulsed By Richard Dreyfuss’ Pompous Behavior
The actors Robert Shaw and Richard Dreyfuss co-starred in Jaws but apparently, they hated every minute of working together. Shaw thought that Dreyfuss was far too pompous. Roy Scheider, their co-star, said – “Dreyfuss would say, 'What am I doing on this island? Why am I here? I should be signing autographs in Sardi's. I should be feted all over New York City…'”
In fact, it is said that Shaw was so disgusted by how Dreyfuss behaved that he started taunting him on set – “[Shaw] really thought Dreyfuss needed a slapping down, [that he was a] young punk with no stage experience."
Dreyfuss got so upset with how Shaw was treating him that at one point he actually grabbed a glass of bourbon that Shaw was drinking and threw it out the window, making Shaw hate him even more.
