10 Actors Confirmed For AHS: Cult (And 5 Who Won't Be Back)

Even though some familiar faces won't be returning for American Horror Story: Cult, there are some surprising new ones to look forward to!

If you are a devoted American Horror Story fan here’s the good news – AHS will be back on the small screen in less than a month!

Yes, in just a few short weeks the seventh season will premiere and we can confirm that there will be 11 dark episodes to sink your teeth into this year. Earlier this year the hit show was also renewed for an eighth and ninth season (2018 and 2019) so you won’t have to give up your favorite series just yet. AHS isn’t slowing down and if the teasers for this instalment are anything to go by, it might just be the scariest season yet.

American Horror Story, which began in 2011 with Murder House, has become a favorite with viewers all over the world and this season features one the most enticing themes since Freak Show. The seventh season, set to air on the 5th September 2017, is entitled Cult and early art teasers suggested that bees and clowns might have a presence in the story, but this is unconfirmed. We do know series co-creator Ryan Murphy has confirmed that the season will be connected to Freak Show but set in the modern day. In February this year, Murphy announced that the season will have a political theme, revolving around the 2016 U.S. Election.

Here are some of the actors that have confirmed that they will return for the latest instalment of AHS (and five who will not be back this time):

15 Evan Peters Is Confirmed For AHS: Cult

While he can’t give away too much of the plot at this time Evan has teased audiences about the upcoming season, saying, “It's definitely going to be a different season”. We don’t know about you, but we can’t wait to see him again!

14 Lena Dunham Is Set To Make Her AHS Debut

We are not quite sure what the creators have in mind for her just yet, but there are rumors circulating that her character will die in the first episode. We know that with AHS there are always a few surprises and we hope that her participation will prove the naysayers wrong because we just couldn’t live with AHS.

13 No Lady Gaga This Season

The good news is that both Murphy and Gaga have stated that she is interested in joining future seasons so let’s hold thumbs for the next one!

12 Leslie Grossman Will Appear In AHS For The First Time

There is no news yet as to what character she will play, but Ryan Murphy only seems to have praise for her, describing her as “one of the funniest and most talented ladies I know“, so let’s see what she can do.

11 Series Regular Sarah Paulson Will Return Again

Sarah started with a small role in Murder House as Billie Dean Howard and only appeared in three episodes. In seasons two, three and four, she appeared in almost every episode playing a reporter, witch, and conjoined twin respectively. For Hotel she played Sally McKenna in nine episodes and Billie Dean Howard for one episode. Last year for AHS: Roanoke she again had a starring role and looks set to take the lead again in Cult.

10 Colton Haynes Is An AHS Newbie

In AHS: Cult he is set to play a character called Detective Samuels and so far that’s all we know. But if his previous performances are anything to go by Haynes could become a fan favorite in no time! Let’s see what he can do in the dark and creepy world of AHS

9 Billie Lourd Joins AHS

Billie (25) is the only child of actress Carrie Fisher and talent agent Bryan Lourd. She only began acting a few years ago, but so far has three film credits under her belt - Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Billionaire Boys Club, and Star Wars: The Last Jedi. She is best known for her role as Chanel #3 in the horror-comedy series Scream Queens – also a Ryan Murphy show.

So far we know that she will have a main role in AHS: Cult and will be playing a character called Winter Anderson. She is definitely an up and coming star so keep your eyes on her.

8 Emma Roberts Is Back

Emma has been busy during her absence, working on Scream Queens and two new movies: Nerve (released in 2016) and Billionaire Boys Club (still in post-production). All we can say is that we hope Ryan Murphy can hold on to her for the upcoming seasons too!

7 Come Back Kathy Bates – AHS Needs You!

Since her first appearance as Marie Delphine LaLaurie, this veteran actress has become one of the cornerstones of the AHS world. She wowed audiences with her performances throughout the series so it’s sad that she couldn’t make it back this year. The reason for her decision was a scheduling conflict with her other Netflix series Disjointed. Bates is very much in demand so let's hope that AHS will be able to secure her for the upcoming seasons. She’s taken over the AHS matriarch role since Jessica Lange left and we think the show really needs her.

6 Alison Pill Is Set To Join The AHS Family

Pill started her acting career at the age of 12 and has dozens of film, theatre, and tv credits. Her breakout role as a mature actor came when in 2006 with the TV series The Book of Daniel. In that same year, she was nominated for a Tony Award for Best Featured Actress in a Play for her performance in The Lieutenant of Inishmore. Since then she has enjoyed prominent roles in films like Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World and Zoo, and the television series In Treatment.

5 Zachary Quinto Is Focused On Other Projects

Zachary first appeared in AHS in Season One in a minor recurring role and was promoted to a main cast member for the second season when he became the doctor everyone loved to hate. Quinto has a lot going on and seems to have moved on from the series. In an interview with MTV, he said, "I haven’t had any conversations about going back to American Horror Story and I’m focused on a lot of other things right now, so I think the timing probably wouldn’t work out at this point.”

But this is AHS so never say never – maybe there will be a part for him in the future.

4 Taissa Farmiga Has Not Confirmed That She Will Appear

There were also persistent rumors that Taissa’s older sister, Academy Award-nominated actress Vera Farmiga (who you’ll remember from Bates Motel and The Conjuring) would appear in Season 7 of AHS but Entertainment Weekly confirmed in July this year that this is not true.

3 Cheyenne Jackson Will Be Back

You might be surprised to learn that this talented guy not only has a host of TV and movie credits under his belt. He has also played lead roles in several Broadway musicals and sold out Carnegie Hall not once, but twice, in 2010 and again in 2011. He also performs in cabaret so maybe this season AHS will give us a glimpse into his singing talents?

2 Billy Eichner In American Horror Story: Cult?

While AHS had moments of dark humor in the past we’re quite sure that this will be a more serious role for Billy and we are excited to see what he’s going to do with it. Provided he doesn’t die in the first episode that is, and knowing the series creator’s penchant for these types of things that’s definitely a possibility. You’ll need to watch to find out.

1 Still No Jessica Lange This Season

Lange joined AHS in Season 1 and although she was originally given a supporting role Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk expanded her part after she acquired the role because of the way audiences responded to her. She returned for lead roles in Alsyum, Coven, and Freak Show. She opted out of Hotel, allowing Lady Gaga to take on the leading lady role and didn’t return for Roanoke. And it’s been confirmed that she will not appear in Season 7 either.

So will she ever return to AHS? Not likely. She has stated that her days of AHS are now behind her.
