20 Things You Didn't Know About Disney Princesses

You’ve probably watched your favorite Disney movies hundreds of times, but how much do you really know about the stars of the films? We did some digging and found some pretty surprising facts about Disney princess that will make your jaws drop. From Cinderella losing her shoe multiple times to the real length of Rapunzel’s hair, here are some Disney princess facts that will shock you.

Out of all the Disney princesses, Anna is the only one who has a singing duet with a villain. She belted out “Love is an Open Door” with Hans, and the song is definitely our second favorite (behind “Let It Go,” of course). Speaking of “Frozen,” Disney execs had a different plan for Elsa. She was originally written as the villain in the movie. Initially, she wasn’t even related to Anna, and Disney execs wanted her character to be similar to Ursula and Cruella de Vil. When writers heard the lead song “Let It Go,” they decided to switch up the entire plot of the movie and make Elsa the lovable character we all know today.

Princess Merida of DunBroch has a head full of beautiful curly hair, but if you straightened out her curls, her hair would be 4 feet long. She is also the only princess who has brothers - the adorable young triplets Harris, Hubert and Hamish. Could a spinoff of the young princes be in the works? We will have to wait and see!

Pocahontas is the only princess with a visible tattoo. It’s located on her upper arm. Can you spot it? There’s actually much more about the movie “Pocahontas” that really surprised us. The character Grandmother Willow in “Pocahontas” was originally supposed to be a male character named Old Man River. Actor Gregory Peck was chosen to be the voice of the character, but he declined and told Disney execs they should change it to a woman so that Pocahontas could have a mother figure. The movie is also the first Disney movie to show one of the princesses involved in an interracial relationship.

Linda Larkin, who was Princess Jasmine’s voice actress, was almost fired halfway through the filming of “Aladdin.” A Disney exec thought her voice didn’t sound regal enough to portray the character. Also, Jasmine is the only princess who has kissed a villain when she was forced to lock lips with Jafar.

Cinderella actually lost her slipper three times in the movie. The first time was when she was walking up the stairs to deliver breakfast, the second time was when she was running away from the ball, and the third time was when she was walking down the stairs with the prince. Also, the movie was originally shot in live-action. Animators then used the live-action footage as a guide to create the classic animated film.
