While the movie industry does provide entertainment, it is ultimately a business and film studios are constantly looking for ways to make quick and easy money. Enter the mockbuster. These rip-off films are purposely made to look and appear like real movies. Disney is often the victim in these cases, but several other films have fell for the same fate. See some of the craziest rip-offs that probably should have been sued for some type of copyright infringement.
Brave was an original story produced by Pixar and fans loved the female hero rising above her culture to save her family. Well, apparently so did two other movie companies that created Kiera the Brave and the tricky movie title of Braver. It’s pretty weird that there wasn’t a talking Car movie before Cars, but Cargo tries to eat up that audience with cheap animation and a weak story that steals from Cars 3. Disney visited the classic tale of Rapunzel in Tangled and so did the sham of a movie entitled Tangled Up. If you’re going to copy Finding Nemo and Finding Dory, you could have at least changed it from a fish for the film Izzie’s Way Home. Have the MEGA success of Frozen, you knew there would be copycats. One has actually turned into a whole franchise and another just ripped off the title. Why have Happy Feet, when you can have some Tappy Toes! Trolls is one of the more recent animated hits and that was quickly followed by the very strange film Trolland. The Princess and the Frog featured Disney’s first African-American princess and a number of other movie companies copied that exact idea with films like The Frog Prince. Chop Kick Panda is such a funny title you have to laugh, but then you might get angry about how bad it ripped off Kung-Fu Panda. Toy Story is as original as they come, but MAD on Cartoon Network decided to mix it with the Bourne Identity and make a rip-off spoof of their own.
