10 Ways To Make Your Own Non-Toxic Makeup

Women have been using makeup to enhance their features for centuries. Many of them don’t even question the ingredients that are found in their favorite brands. There has been a push in the past decade to move away from traditional makeup, and start using all natural or non-toxic blends. These new formulas come with a pretty hefty price tag, but did you know you could make comparable cosmetics in your own home? These are 10 ways to make your own non-toxic makeup.

First, let’s start with the eyes. The eyes are known to be the window to your soul, and when you add a little eyeliner and mascara they can really pop. The recipe for non-toxic eyeliner is very similar to the mascara, so you can knock out two birds with one stone. You will need aloe vera gel, coconut oil, activated charcoal capsules, grated beeswax, and containers for storage. First the eyeliner: Take 2 teaspoons of coconut oil, 4 teaspoons of aloe vera gel, and mix them together in a container. Next, pour in the contents of 1 or 2 charcoal capsules until you get the desired color. Keep the mix in a cool dark place for storing. Next, the mascara: Mix 4 teaspoons of aloe vera gel, 2 teaspoons of coconut oil, ½ a teaspoon of grated beeswax in a container. Then add the contents of 1 or 2 charcoal capsules until you reach your desired color. Store the mixture in an empty mascara bottle, and enjoy!

Moving on to the biggest trend at the moment, highlighter and contour. The Kardashians and beauty bloggers have made contour and highlighter all the rage, and we are seeing how huge it as with all the saturation of products. It can get a little overwhelming, but now you will have the recipe to make your own! First, lets start with the contour! You will need: cinnamon, nutmeg, cocoa powder, arrowroot powder, and your favorite essential oil. Using 1 tablespoon of cinnamon, 1 teaspoon each of nutmeg and cocoa powder, and 2 teaspoons of arrowroot powder as your foundation, keep mixing the pigments until you reach your desired color. Once you’ve locked in your favorite shade, mix in 15 drops of your essential oil, and store in a lidded container. Moving on to the highlighter recipe, you’ll need: all natural moisturize, non-toxic shimmering white eye shadow, non-toxic shimmering champagne eye shadow, and a container for storage. All you need to do for this one, is put moisturizer in the container, then scrape both of the eye shadows into the container, then mix! Once you are done, store your new highlighter, and whip it out when you want a dewy glow!

Probably the most fun of all the recipes for non-toxic DIY makeup is lipstick. There are only 2 ingredients needed, and the options of colors are limitless! For this recipe you will need non-toxic crayons, and coconut oil. Because coconut oil has such a high melting point, you can melt crayons with it, without the crayons melting or causing damage to the pigments. In a microwave safe container, throw a few pieces of you favorite crayon, or if you feel like experiment throw in different colors, with 2 tablespoons of coconut oil, and melt. Make sure to let the mixture cool down before you try to apply it. Once it’s cooled, apply your amazing new toxic free lipstick with a brush applicator!
