From the outside looking in, acting appears to be an extremely fun job. In addition to enjoying the fame and fortune that tends to come with being an actor, the process of filming a movie should be enjoyable - you get to work with amazing people, showcase your talent and essentially play make believe for a few months.
But that isn't always the case. Certain scenes can be exhausting, embarrassing and even painful for the actors involved and, in this video, we're going to run through just a few examples of actors having those kinds of experiences.
Here are ten famous movie scenes that actors hated shooting.
Dakota Johnson & Jamie Dornan in Fifty Shades of Grey
In spite of the fact that the pair willingly signed on to star in one of the most sexual mainstream movies of the new millennium to date, both Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan actually hate filming sex scenes and neither of them enjoyed filming the extreme ones in Fifty Shades of Grey.
Johnson has described them as making her feel extremely vulnerable - and she even insisted that the least amount of people necessary were present on set while she filmed them - and Dornan has been quoted as saying "If I was about to be doing something particularly heinous to Dakota, I would apologise in advance and say, 'I'm probably not going to derive a huge amount of pleasure out of this. I want you to know that.'"
Chris Evans in Captain America: Civil War
You know that scene in Captain America: Civil War that made Chris Evans look totally awesome? The one in which he's holding back a god damn helicopter with his bare hands and his biceps are bulging like those of a bodybuilder? Well, rather surprisingly, Evans actually hated filming that scene.
Not only does the focus being on his biceps embarrass him, but it was also uncomfortable and painful for him to film, and he actually injured himself. Evans explained by saying "I really, genuinely did mess up something in my arm doing it, you know. It's a very unnatural position to be in." It probably didn't help that there were no special effects involved - Evans really was holding a helicopter, albeit one attached to a rig.
Leonardo DiCaprio in The Revenant
Leonardo DiCaprio is famously extremely committed to his movie roles, and he finally got the reward he deserved for such commitment in 2016, winning the Academy Award for Best Actor for his portrayal of Hugh Glass in The Revenant. There's one particular scene in that movie that totally justified DiCaprio's award - and it's a scene he hated filming.
It's the scene in which his character eats raw bison liver in the movie. There was absolutely nothing fake about it. DiCaprio wanted his performance to be as authentic as possible, so raw bison liver really is what he's eating. That would be difficult for anyone, but Leo is a vegetarian, so he absolutely despised it. That's devotion to your art if ever we saw it.
Idris Elba in Thor: The Dark World
One actor who pulls no punches about his hate towards a role that he's still contractrually obliged to play is Idris Elba. He hates portraying the Asgardian Heimdall in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but one scene in particular in Thor: The Dark World - which he described as "torture" - really tipped him over the edge. Elba said:
"I’m actually falling down from a spaceship, so they had to put me in harness in this green-screen studio. And in between takes I was stuck there, fake hair stuck on to my head with glue, this f**king helmet, while they reset. And I’m thinking: ‘24 hours ago, I was Mandela.' Then there I was, in this stupid harness, with this wig and this sword and these contact lenses. It ripped my heart out." Well, Idris, Heimdall will probably die soon, and your misery will be over.
