Leaks regarding the imminent arrival of the next generation of AirPods are coming thick and fast and some of the rumors are definitely cause for excitement.
Whenever the release of a new Apple product is imminent it sends fans of the company's innovative products into a frenzy. That might involve customers queuing outside Apple stores hours before they open for a chance to get their hands on the newest iPhone. It could be fervently hitting refresh on your iPad in hopes of ordering its replacement as soon as a new model is released.
Next on the agenda for Apple is the release of the second generation of AirPods. Apple's wireless earphones have proved to be incredibly popular ever since they were unleashed on the world a little more than two years ago. Much like the iPhone itself, AirPods are one of those products we now use every day and wonder how we survived without them.
According to Forbes, we might not have long to wait until we can get our hands on AirPods 2. Apple's latest take on wireless headphones could be on the shelves as soon as the end of March. So what will be different about them? Well, Apple has remained pretty tight-lipped on that front. However, there are a few rumors and leaks out there that we can run down for you, and all of them sound pretty exciting.
So the Apple news. AirPods wireless charging will happen. It will be VERY fast (0-100 in 15 minutes.) That speed is for the AirPods AND the case. It will probably use Qi charging.— Max Weinbach (@mweinbachXDA) March 3, 2019
There will be a downside though, the case will be bigger in one direction and heavier.
The most promising leak to date is that the new AirPods will charge wirelessly from flat to full in just 15 minutes. The current earphones take a few hours, so that would be a massive improvement. The case will also be fully charged in that time. The downside is that the case will be slightly larger due to the wireless charging coil, but apparently not so much bigger that it will be that noticeable.
The other rumors revolve around the potential design of the new AirPods. It is likely that they will have a matte finish, as it has been said that they will be less shiny than the originals. Not only will that likely be more aesthetically pleasing, but it will also make them a lot easier to grip. They may also come in a range of colors as opposed to just white. Hopefully, we won't have to wait long to find out if all the above is true and to test them out for ourselves.
