Quentin Tarantino In Hot Water For Defending Roman Polanski

Director Quentin Tarantino has had a lot of negative press lately, and it doesn’t seem to be slowing down.

Recently, Uma Thurman, who played the lead in Tarantino’s hugely popular Kill Bill franchise, shared her experience with notorious Hollywood mogul Harvey Weinstein. As well as recounting a time the former producer made physical advances, she shared an incident that occurred on the set of Kill Bill that left her with lasting injuries.

i post this clip to memorialize it’s full exposure in the nyt by Maureen Dowd. the circumstances of this event were negligent to the point of criminality. i do not believe though with malicious intent. Quentin Tarantino, was deeply regretful and remains remorseful about this sorry event, and gave me the footage years later so i could expose it and let it see the light of day, regardless of it most likely being an event for which justice will never be possible. he also did so with full knowledge it could cause him personal harm, and i am proud of him for doing the right thing and for his courage. THE COVER UP after the fact is UNFORGIVABLE. for this i hold Lawrence Bender, E. Bennett Walsh, and the notorious Harvey Weinstein solely responsible. they lied, destroyed evidence, and continue to lie about the permanent harm they caused and then chose to suppress. the cover up did have malicious intent, and shame on these three for all eternity. CAA never sent anyone to Mexico. i hope they look after other clients more respectfully if they in fact want to do the job for which they take money with any decency.

In an Instagram post, Thurman shared footage of a stunt gone wrong that was supposed to go off without a hitch. The actress was fearful of something going wrong and requested that a stunt double perform the driving stunt, but Tarantino insisted that she perform it—and that nothing could go wrong. The car did crash, leaving her with knee and neck problems that have lasted to the present day. Thurman is now cordial with Tarantino, while Tarantino himself gave her the footage to release, calling the moment one of the biggest regrets of his entire life. Weinstein and other producers allegedly covered up the accident, which Thurman refers to in her post. Despite not blaming the director directly for the stunt gone wrong, Tarantino has received a torrent of abuse. This only heightened earlier this week when a radio interview from 15 years ago surfaced, in which the Pulp Fiction director defended fellow filmmaker Roman Polanski over the alleged rape of a 13-year-old girl in 1977. Polanski was charged with drugging and assaulting the minor but fled the country before he could be sentenced.

In the interview with Howard Stern, Tarantino leaped to Polanski’s defense, insisting he wasn’t a rapist and the girl was “Down to party with Roman.” Stern and his co-host reminded Tarantino that the young girl was drugged and plied with alcohol, but he was unwavering. “She wanted to have it. Dated the guy…and by the way, we’re talking about America’s morals, we’re not talking about the morals in Europe and everything.”

Tarantino has since come out to apologize for his comments, according to Variety, but many actors have condemned Tarantino for his remarks, including Dawson’s Creek actress Busy Phillips who denounced him in a series of angry tweets. “F**k anyone who works with him. I’m embarrassed that I ever auditioned for him. F**k him,” the 38-year-old raged according to the Daily Mail. Phillips didn’t specify what movie she auditioned for, but it’s thought she was referring to Death Proof, which starred Kurt Russell as a psychopathic killer with a car built to kill its passengers but protect its driver. It soon became a cult classic.
