Billionaire engineer and entrepreneur Elon Musk is the king of three empires in three different industries: Tesla, SolarCity, and SpaceX. He is a dreamer, a risk taker who dedicated his life to prove people are wrong for not believing in his visions. Everything that he ever did paid off as Musk has a net-worth $20.7 billion. This made him the 12th most wealthiest self-made tech billionaire in the entire world, and the 80th richest man in the world.

Musk is currently the owner of 5 multi-million dollar mansion in Bel-Air. The total cost he has spent on his luxurious mansions adds up to $72 million. All of his houses are within walking distance of each other. Because they are so close, the tech mogul has his own massive compound of living space in an extremely private location in the foothills of the Santa Monica Mountains. Let's take a tour:

Elon Musk has made the 17-million-worth mansion his main residency ever since he bought in late 2012, early January 2013 (the one in the biggest circle on the right). Situated on the hilltop 1.66-acre plot in Los Angeles' Bel Air enclave, Musk had been renting this mansion for three years. He and his five sons officially can call this mansion home after Musk thought he was financially stable enough to buy this property off the market.

The property overlooks the exclusive Bel-Air Country Club. One must say: the view is magnificent.

This 20,248-square-foot home is divided into different wings. It comprises enough green space to make the lavish mansion look pleasant and breezy. The yard was decorated with some marble benches, tables, and chairs that allow Musk and his sons to spend their time outside peacefully and comfortably.

The mansion has seven bedrooms, seven full bathrooms, four half-baths, five fireplaces, and a two-story library. It also has guest quarters as well.

The original listing of the house also includes a master suite with an encompassed lounge area.

The kitchen is large, with a brick ceiling and a large island. The warm brown tone gives the space a cozy feel. The dining room is also very spacious with the capacity to hold a party of more than 30 people (and that's just the presumption made based on the photo provided). The house also has a huge wine cellar that can hold 1,000 bottles of wine.

It also includes five garages, a full-size tennis court, a large private gym with access to the outdoor area, a gorgeous heated pool with a deck area, and also a private spa. Musk said that despite his hectic schedule, he tries to work out twice a week.

The mogul also dedicated a room for entertainment purposes. He spends time there with his children or by himself to watch movies, plays video games to help him de-stress.

When Bloomberg visited Elon Musk's mansion in 2013, it's noticeable that the Tesla CEO added some personal touches to various rooms. One of his living rooms is decorated with an L-shape leather sofa, a couch which was covered with a mink throw blanket. He also made a very interesting choice of changing the light-fixture in the dining room. Musk also places a grand piano in one shared room, and then another room filled with music equipment—which can be even more useful now that he is dating Canadian singer Grimes. It has been five years since Bloomberg visited the mansion, so it's safe to say that Musk properly had made more changes and added more personal touches to his house.

In October 2013, Musk paid $6.75 million for the 2,756-square-foot for a ranch-style residence directly across the street from the mansion he previously bought (the one in the lime green circle on the map). The property was once owned by the beloved actor Gene Wilder, who was very famous for his portrait of Willy Wonka. It's located in the pristine fairways of the Bel-Air Country Club. The deceased actor sold this house in 2007 to a couple that gave it a quick renovation and used it as a temporary residence. After the purchase was made, Musk converted the Wilder residence to a private school where, along with the children of some of his friends and associates, his twins and younger triplets are provided a non-traditional education.

In July 2015, Elon Musk paid $20 million for a 7,026-square-foot modern house on 3.41 acres that is not next door, but rather a couple of doors down from the $17 million mansion he bought (the one in the red oval). This house was rumored to serve the unconventional divorce arrangement with Musk's ex-wife, Miz Riley. At about the same time, he dropped another $4.3 million to acquire a modest and woefully dated 2,963-square-foot ranch-style house on a high ridge directly above the newly acquired $20 million residence.

In 2016, Musk bought a $24.25 million mansion which was still under construction never listed on the open market. The property is a brand spanking new ultra-contemporary spect-built mansion located on a high ridge above Bel-Air (the one in the circle, pictured below). This house has a spectacular views that sweep over Los Angeles and it is in close proximity to the four other Bel Air properties Musk already owned.

In October 2017, the SolarCity CEO unveiled hidden solar panel roof technology. The panels are invisible when viewed from the street, yet are fully exposed to the sun. We're sure that technology will be visible on all his homes sometime soon.

It's no surprise a man as wealthy as musk owns so many homes, real estate is one of the most lucritive things to invest in, so it only makes sense. For a man as busy as Musk, it's nice to see he can kick back and relax in a number of beautiful homes (when he's not sleeping on a couch in the Tesla factory that is).
