Amazon is an amazing source to get products that are decently priced. This doesn't even mention the fact that a lot of items have low or outright have free shipping since the user can get Amazon Prime.
To qualify for free shipping, you need to spend a small amount of $25, this is at least the case during the holidays so, for now, it's a temporary move. According to CTV News, the new offer started Monday, Nov. 5, 2018, and applies to hundreds of millions of items.
A customer would have two options. The first one is just paying for shipping and the second being getting one month free and then paying 199$ a year for the Prime membership, which gets you low cost or in many cases free shipping.
The issue with just paying the shipping is that you're getting a standard rate and it makes almost no sense. You would need to wait around five to eight business days for your item to be delivered. It's also not the most ideal situation with customers who can be rather impatient.
The good part is the free month that's commonly offered to people who have not been on prime in the last twelve months. This means that they can get that sweet one-month free trial but might also need to forfeit the cash to pay up in the end if they don't cancel the membership.
Amazon has to compete for customers. This is just one way in which they tend to do that. You see, if they lower the free shipping amount, people who want something will fork over the money or they'll just get Prime. Either of which leads Amazon to pull in more cash before the season comes to a close.
The large online retailer also seems to realize that people try to get the most bang for their buck, so, lowering the costs of shipping like this is really interesting as it allows someone to buy another product instead of pay for shipping, so really, it's a win-win for everyone.
