Streaming giant Netflix has ordered a third season of The Umbrella Academy, according to a report from Deadline, who claims production on the 10-part season will begin in Toronto, Canada, in February.
Ellen Page, Tom Hopper, David Castañeda, Emmy Raver-Lampman, Robert Sheehan, Aidan Gallagher, Justin H. Min, Ritu Arya, and Colm Feore will all reprise their roles, with showrunner Steve Blackman also poised to return.
The Umbrella Academy was the third-most watched Netflix series of 2019. The live-action superhero show is produced by UCP and is based on the Dark Horse Comics written by Gerard Way and illustrated by Gabriel Ba. Its second season, which launched on July 29 was No.1 on Nielsen's inaugural Streaming Top 10.
The second season saw Five vindicated over warning his family that using his powers to escape Vanya's 2019 apocalypse was a risk as the time jump scattered the siblings across Dallas in different times.
Some of them have moved on and built lives for themselves as they believed they were the only survivors after being stuck in the past for years. Five landed in the middle of a nuclear doomsday prompted by the disruption of the timeline, leaving The Umbrella Academy needing a way to get back together and end said doomsday so they could return to the present and stop the other apocalypse.
Jeff F. King, also directing season 3, is an executive producer alongside Blackman, as well as Mike Richardson, Keith Goldberg and Jesse McKeown.
