It's true everyone. At the end of 2020, The Office will no longer be streaming on Netflix. The service has confirmed the news on Twitter.
Remember when we had to wait a week between episodes of our favorite TV show? And after they had aired, we'd have to wait for them to be shown again or buy them on DVD if we wanted to rewatch them? The advent of streaming services has made that reality, which didn't happen that long ago, feel entirely archaic.
Nowadays, for the most part, episodes of a new TV series are released all at once. It lends itself to our tendency to want everything right now, and leads to us binge-watching shows. We can also go back and watch it as many times as we like. That's where The Office comes in. No matter how many Netflix Originals get thrown our way, all we really want to do is watch all nine season of The Office over and over again.
That's why some Office-related news struck fear into our hearts this week. It was rumored that at the end of 2020, Michael Scott and his employees will be leaving Netflix. While we rocked back and forth and convinced ourselves it was all one big nightmare, Netflix confirmed the news to be true on Twitter.

Netflix wrote, "We're sad that NBC has decided to take The Office back for its own streaming platform." Entertainment Weekly reports that as of January 2021, The Office will stream on NBC's new platform, NBC Universal. Since The Office is an NBC creation, it makes sense that the network would want it for its platform. It will likely be sacrificing a big payday from Netflix by doing so, though.
Netflix signed off its bad news tweet by trying to comfort Office fans, informing them that they can still watch The Office on its platform ad-free until January 2021. We're not sure whether that's intended to be a shot at NBC or not, although we're assuming NBC Universal will not be ad-free. Now excuse us while we go watch all nine seasons of The Office as many times as we possibly can in the next 18 months.
