A new trailer for streaming service HBO Max shows off just how much great content will be available on the new streaming service.

The streaming service world is pretty crowded right now, yet more companies continue to enter the fray. That's music to most people's ears right now. Many of us around the world are held up indoors until the COVID-19 outbreak is quelled, so the more services out there offering content we've not seen, or don't mind watching over and over again, the better.

The heavy hitters in the TV and movie streaming world right now are Netflix and Disney+. However, HBO Max is intent on making that a big three this year. A bold move, and one that will officially begin on May 27, 2020. The launch date was finally confirmed by HBO via the trailer below.

The launch date is almost a footnote when it comes to ranking how exciting the content of the trailer above is, though. We knew HBO would be able to offer some content Netflix and Disney haven't been able to get their hands-on, but we didn't realize just how much it has to offer. Game of Thrones, Westworld, and Watchmen were all on the docket since they are HBO property, but its the movies on show that knocked us for six.

Lord of the Rings, Joker, Detective Pikachu, A Star Is Born. There is a lot of content there that has either never been on a rival streaming service, or will be moving from one to HBO Max sometime soon. The only caveat is that all this content won't necessarily be available at launch. Chances are some of the contracts studios have with other services will need to run their course first.

We weren't convinced that HBO Max would have the content to challenge Netflix and Disney+ but after seeing this trailer, our eyes have been opened. However, its future projects will determine the most important thing, its longevity. The main reason Netflix has thrived is its original content. Disney has decades of movies to fall back on, HBO does not, so its original shows will need to be hits for HBO Max to succeed.
