We've all got one. That ultimate BFF. She's always there. She listens, she laughs (even when we're not funny). She knows that there's a fine line between tough love and going too far – and she respects it. Friends isn't the first sitcom to give us BFF goals. It won't be the last. What it will be, however, is the best. Rachel Green (played by Jennifer Aniston) and Monica Geller (played by Courteney Cox) might have first hit our screens way back in 1994, but their friendship hasn't gone anywhere. Kids younger than Kylie Jenner are watching the show on Netflix, and 30-somethings are loving that Friends is still alive.

"I mean, it's THE END OF AN ERA!" Only the ultimate BFFs would come up with phrases like that when one of them moves out. Millions of us watched Rachel arrive on the Friends set in that soaking wet dress before deciding (in classic Rachel style): "I'll just live with you." Honestly, we couldn't have been more grateful to Monica. Not just for taking Rachel in. For giving us the opportunity to binge watch one of the funniest, warmest, most awesome shows that has ever aired. It just wouldn't have been the same without these two. Those marshmallows in concentric circles. Those catfights that nearly ended with a lot of marinara sauce in a handbag. Those little notes that Rachel left for Monica on the bathroom mirror. There aren't just a handful of reasons that Rachel and Monica are total friendship goals. Here are 25.

THEY KNOW HOW TO BE A TEAM

Name one sitcom with BFFs as close as Monica and Rachel. These two are a team from the minute Monica welcomes Rachel to the real world: "It sucks. You're gonna love it!" As the seasons pass, we see these two join forces towards everything under the sun, including the risky business of betting away their apartment. Monica may not have always wanted Rachel on her team (especially when it came to outdoor sports), but these two knew how to pair up.

THEY HAVE THE BEST TINY FIGHTS

"Do you think I can't see you in the TV set?" Monica and Rachel's fights hands-down win for some of the most epic TV we've ever seen. Sometimes it just explosive. Even when it isn't though, we get this. Rachel: "I feel this is totally unjustified." Honestly, what Rachel feels is (or isn't) justifiable doesn't matter. It's Monica's epic mimicking of Rachel in the background that makes us fall off our chairs. Deadpan, fuming, and 100% not impressed, Rachel had her answer here.

AND THE BEST HUGE FIGHTS

Oh, these two fought, alright. How do BFFs resolve a giant fight over a guy? They don't. They flick each other. Rachel: "Would you let me talk?" Monica: "Did you just FLICK ME?" Yeah, that one has gone down in TV history. Then there are the chases around kitchen tables. These girls know how to play hardball. Fans will remember Rachel's "third date sweater." Well, thanks to the ability that these two have to fight, the result was almost "handbag marinara."

BASICALLY, THIS

Yup. A true BFF will know how to cheer you up, no matter how sad you are. "The One With All The Wedding Dresses" is tough on Monica. Ross is engaged to E-M-I-L-Y, and Monica tries on the dress. It only makes Monica feel lonely and depressed, but Rachel is right there. "Hey, you know what might cheer you up?" We don't need an answer. This picture says it all. Rachel manages to mess it up by opening the door with "I do!" to Joshua, but that's a different story.

WE NEVER SEE MONICA ASK RACHEL FOR RENT

Come to think of it, that "temporary stay" Rachel decided was a necessity– she lives at Monica's for quite a while. Do we ever actually see Rachel pay any rent? To be fair, Rachel is finding her feet by getting one of those "job things." While Rachel's earnings at the coffee house are modest, what shines is Monica's hospitality (yes, she'd be proud of those words). Monica takes Rachel in, no questions asked. Rachel may not have helped herself to the fridge "Joey style," but she did live there.

THAT DOOR WAS NEVER LOCKED, WAS IT?

Come to think of it, you can probably count on one hand the number of times that apartment door was locked. As Chandler would say: "The one time!" A BFF will never shut the door in your face. In Rachel and Monica's case, a BFF won't ever lock the door. Rachel and the rest of the gang come and go as they please – even when fights are going on.

"I gave you a key for emergencies." Immediate reply: "We were out of Doritos."

A BFF WILL NOTICE WHEN YOU LOSE A FEW POUNDS

Monica may be slender during the "right now" moments of Friends, but everyone knows that this girl had her issues with food. Struggling with her weight for most of her teens (and teased about it by virtually everyone), Monica was somewhat heavier in flashback episodes like this one. Rachel generally had her self-centered head elsewhere, but she was able to notice when Monica had lost a few pounds. Ross? All he did was mock Monica for "eating the macaroni off the jewelry box."

SHE'LL ALSO LET YOU DATE HER BROTHER

This one doesn't just apply to sitcoms. It applies to real life. Girls (or guys) will be hugely supportive of whoever their BFF is dating – until that person is their brother or sister. Take anyone you know who "started dating my brother." People get protective, right? For all the yelling, screaming, "on" moments, "off" moments, and that "break," Monica is always there for Rachel. She doesn't prevent Rachel from dating her brother. Nor does she step in the way when things get hairy – except to help.

A BEST FRIEND CAN HANDLE GRUMPY

Um, who can forget Rachel's unbelievable temper? Monica is definitely the coolest-headed of the two, although she does have her moments. Rachel, though, is spoiled, easily upset, and either tearful, grumpy, or taking naps (to avoid helping out in the kitchen). Monica didn't exactly take on an easy going character for her BFF – unless you count Phoebe labeling Rachel a "pushover." Monica is a rock throughout Rachel's mood swings. That includes the pregnant ones.

"That's ok. Girls tend not to like me," Rachel once said.

MONICA PRETENDS TO ENJOY THAT TRIFLE

It is quite possibly the best episode in sitcom history. Rachel's Thanksgiving trifle-turned-catastrophe is a wonderful example of her total inability to cook. Custard ("WHICH I MADE FROM SCRATCH!"), ladyfingers, beef sautéed with peas and onions, jam, and whipped cream are among the trifle ingredients that Ross describes succinctly: "It tastes like FEET!" Remember, though. Not only does Monica trust Rachel to not mess it up, she pretends to enjoy it – just so that Rachel won't feel bad. You try a trifle with those ingredients. #BFF

THAT BABY NAME MONICA LETS RACHEL TAKE

Fans will know all too well that Monica had more baby fever than the Kardashians have had in 2018. Monica is obsessed with having babies – Chandler, a little less so. When Rachel and Ross have their "not-quite-planned" baby girl, Rachel is stumped when it comes to naming her little bundle of joy. Until, of course, she picks the one name that Monica had planned for her own baby girl. Rachel feels that her baby "looks like an Emma." What does Monica do? She lets Rachel have it.

RACHEL KNOWS THAT THE TINY DETAILS MATTER

Rachel has already proven that she "keeps the things that matter" with Ross. When Monica has to list all the reasons that Rachel is a good roommate, she finds plenty. The bathroom mirror notes that Rachel leaves. The way Rachel bookmarks magazine sections for Monica. The way Rachel covers Monica with a blanket when she falls asleep on the couch. Rachel: "Well, you know, I don't want you to be cold."

"When I take a shower, she leaves me little notes on the mirror," said Monica of Rachel.

THEY ACTUALLY MAKE A THIRD GIRL WELCOME

Girls can be nasty when they want to be. You know, three's a crowd. Girly duos have the tendency to "want to stay a duo," but there was none of that on Friends. While Monica and Rachel are undeniable BFFs, they never let their friendship get in the way of letting another girl in. Phoebe is as different as they come. She has zero interest in Rachel's trendy fashion and she is no Monica in the kitchen. Still, Rachel and Monica welcome her in.

A BESTIE WILL MAKE SURE YOU TAKE YOUR EYE DROPS

Monica might be squinting here, but true fans will know that there are multiple "eye incidents." Rachel accompanies a nervous Monica to the eye doctor here, but the favor is returned when Rachel has an eye infection. In "The One With Joey's Big Break," Rachel is prescribed eye drops (but she isn't too keen on going through with it). Monica pins Rachel down and gets the job done.

Rachel: "Those eye drops are a miracle. My eye is 100% better." Monica: "They're still in my coat."

RACHEL MOVING OUT WAS "THE END OF AN ERA"

Remember that episode? It had to come to an end. These two roomies had a good run. As Monica and Chandler's relationship turns more serious, the couple we never saw coming finally decide to live together. Well, that is after Monica understands that Chandler "having his stuff here" actually means him moving in. Monica has difficulty admitting just how big of a deal Rachel's move really is. It all comes out in the end, though: "I mean, it's the END OF AN ERA!"

ALL THAT PREGNANCY SUPPORT

Sitcom pregnancies rarely come planned – that's kind of the point. Ross and Rachel didn't exactly plan the arrival of their baby girl. Then again, that's what you get for telling "The Europe story." Despite it being Monica's big day, Little Harmonica is there for Rachel, even when Rachel is tearing up over Phoebe's "fake positive" comment. This being a test to see whether Rachel really wants that baby. Of course, it turns out that she does. Monica is there for Rachel's pregnancy all the way through (and after).

 ALL THAT WEDDING PLANNING

If you're a girl (or know one who has gotten married), you'll know that wedding planning is a big deal. When it's Monica planning her wedding, you might as well call that the biggest deal ever. Monica had been planning her wedding since she was a little girl, and everything from the flowers to the band had to be perfect. Rachel could easily have gone shopping to avoid participating in any of it. What's she doing here? Rachel is helping Monica go through her zillion wedding ideas.

SOMETIMES, BODY LANGUAGE SAYS IT ALL

We now live in a world that hires professional body language experts to figure out the truth about celebrity gossip. When it comes to Rachel and Monica's friendship, though, you don't need an expert. Just look at them. No one is yelling. No one is crying. In a regular Friends scene that saw these six invariably hang out in Monica's apartment, Rachel and Monica are showing their friendship the natural way.

If girls had "lobsters," Monica and Rachel would definitely be each other's.

THEY GO WAY BACK

As all BFFs should. Rachel and Monica weren't exactly best friends in high school – Rachel was too busy being Little Miss Popular to have time for her less popular friend Monica. That said, the flashback episodes do show us friendship. Take the episode when Monica accidentally cuts off Chandler's big toe (after attempting to flirt with him). The advice on how to flirt comes straight from Rachel. Bear in mind too, that the advice is based on Rachel helping Monica take revenge on Chandler for insulting Monica.

THEY ARE BESTIES IN REAL LIFE

Yes, Jennifer Aniston and Courteney Cox are literal BFFs. Most sitcom stars have a casual friendship that is good on camera and for hanging around on-set, but they don't really socialize beyond that. In June 2018, The Sun reported that Jen would be maid of honor at "best pal" Courteney's upcoming wedding. Courteney is engaged to Snow Patrol's guitarist, Johnny McDaid. The newspaper also reported that Court was Jen's "rock" following Jen's divorce from Justin Theroux in 2015.

THAT TIME MONICA LET RACHEL USE HER INSURANCE

Okay, so doing this IRL isn't something we advise – unless you want to get yourself into a serious amount of trouble. That said, laws have a way of turning lax on sitcoms. Let's see: Rachel getting away with that speeding incident with the flattery of "Officer Pretty?" The fact that Rachel's driver's license has expired? Monica tends to do things by the book, although in this episode, she does let Rachel "borrow" her health insurance. Rachel is pretty broke. So they switch names.

EVERYTHING MONICA DID TO AVOID THIS MESS

And what a mess. Literally no TV show on earth has managed to recreate the wedding chaos that is Ross' ill-fated wedding to the British (and very controlling Emily). Ross and Emily are due to get married in London, which is around the time that Rachel realizes she must tell Ross that she's "still in love with him." Monica begs Rachel to find one person who thinks that is a good idea before telling him.

"I take thee Rachel." Monica did everything in her power to stop Rachel breaking up that wedding.

EVERYTHING RACHEL DID TO KEEP MONICA CALM

If you need a reminder, this is from the episode building up to Monica's wedding. Chandler is having a mild freakout at being "the Bings," and promptly wanders off. Monica has absolutely no idea that Chandler is missing – she's had a good night's sleep and is ready to do her pre-wedding makeup. The friends have to find Chandler (while making sure Monica has no idea he is missing). Rachel tries to stall Monica. "Dear god, I fell down." That was after the "I'll never get married" thing has failed. Fortunately, Chandler shows up.

DEFINITELY AGREEING WHEN IT COMES TO ART

Besties will share the same taste. Sometimes it's fashion. Sometimes it's food. For Monica and Rachel, it is sharing the same taste (or distaste) in art. Gladys is the eccentric and somewhat weird piece of art that Phoebe has painstakingly crafted. The problem is that nobody wants it. In fact, Monica and Rachel end up having a fake fight over the whole thing just to avoid ending up with it. A weird way to seal a friendship, but they've got the same taste.

THE PIC THAT SAYS A THOUSAND WORDS

Somehow, this one just doesn't need an explanation. Just look at them. Rachel is so at-ease with Monica, she's comfortable just hugging her bestie with her eyes shut. Monica virtually broke down when Rachel actually moved out to leave nothing but "Rachel's empty room." These two made it through 10 seasons of laughter, tears, and fighting. Over 20 years later, they're still the ultimate friendship goals.
