The Yeezy 500 Desert Rat is back with an all-black color scheme.
Fans the sportswear will be happy to learn the shoe arrived in stores this weekend. The new Adidas sneaker, as the name says, is an all black incarnation of the Desert Rat, which has been previously released in Supermoon Yellow and Blush, and is set to also arrive in Ultraviolet and Salt.
According to GQ, the shoe, a chunky-soled sneaker with black mesh and black suede across the upper, reinvents the classic all-black trainer. This is the first time Yeezy goes all black since the Yeezy Boost 750 two winters ago. The Utility Black Yeezy 500 also features the signature adiPRENE+ cushioned sole, as well as reflective piping and other accents.
It's no wonder these shoes are so popular. With one of the most famous names behind them, along with their simplistic, yet stylish designs, Yeezys have been the apple of many sneakerhead's eyes for some time now.
The success of the new Yeezy is guaranteed, however, despite West’s claims that he is “the single highest paid person in footwear,” making “more money on shoes than Michael Jordan,” he still has a few steps to climb in the footwear ladder.
In 2017, Jordan Brand registered revenue of $3.1 billion. According to John Kernan, a retail analyst, Kanye hasn’t overtaken Jordan in the sneaker game. “I'm not sure what the economics are for [Jordan] at Nike, and I don't know what Kanye's economics are but it's hard for me to believe it's anywhere near what Nike's on the hook for with Jordan.”
The Yeezy 500 Utility Black sells for $200 and is available at Adidas, YEEZY Supply, Frenzy, and other retailers.
