There are a lot of television shows out there that people are excited to see come back on the air. But Game of Thrones is such a big event that simply calling it a television show doesn't seem right. When the show does finally come back on the air for the start of its final season, all eyes are going to be turned to Emilia Clarke and her brilliant portrayal of Daenerys Targaryen.
But there is more to Clarke than just chilling with dragons. Such as chilling with Arnold Schwarzenegger in the Terminator franchise. Or running from dinosaurs in the made-for-TV film Triassic Attack. Not all of Emilia Clarke's films have landed with critics, but even when they don't, her tremendous sense of style and acting prowess isn't what should be blamed.
And while the world may also be waiting in anticipation for Clarke on Game of Thrones, we're sure she'd also love to talk to you about her upcoming work. Including Above Suspicion that will see Clarke get very familiar with the world of substances and intimacy. Not to mention one of the pivotal roles in the upcoming Star Wars film Solo.
Clarke's good looks are also often put on display in her personal life. Something that was recognized by Esquire magazine when they once named her the most beautiful woman alive. Whether you love seeing her sense of style on the screen or away from it, we're sure you'll come away from this list with an appreciation for all the aspects that Clarke brings to the table.
20 Her Most Embarrassing School Moment
Emilia Clarke opened up about some of her most revealing moments in an interview with The Celebrity Expert. This includes her stating that her most embarrassing moment from school came when a bunch of people decided to dump a bunch of water on her while she was wearing a white shirt. We're sure you can put the pieces together as to what happened next.
Clarke also talked about her first ever kiss which she said was with a boy Rick and admitted that in order to get more privacy they kissed in a cupboard so people couldn't see.
We're sure he's been able to use that past connection to impress some people in the past, and now if he finds this interview, he'll have proof that what he was bragging about was true!
19 Game Of Thrones
There are many people who were hooked from the second Game of Thrones hit the air and knew from the start that it would be a huge success. But for Emilia Clarke, who joined the series a few episodes into season 1, she was still blown away by the level of success that the show has found,
"Never in a million years did I think 'Game of Thrones' was going to take off like it did."
Considering it ended up being a role that will, at the very least, guarantee her financial security and public adoration for the rest of her career, we suppose it's understandable that she didn't expect all of this when she got the job. Especially because prior to landing the role, Clarke was working at a call center!
18 Her Amazing Look On The Red Carpet
Emilia Clarke knows that some of her best and most unforgettable looks have come on the red carpet. So perhaps you also had to know that at least one red carpet look was going to make an appearance on this list. But when talking about how amazing women look on the red carpet, Clarke knows that there are a lot of steps that go into the women looking as beautiful as they do that doesn't always get talked about.
"There are no captions on red-carpet photos that say, 'This girl trained for two weeks, she went on a juice diet, she has a professional hair and makeup person, and this dress was made for her.' I just wish they'd say, 'It ain't the truth.'"
We're sure the stylists who have worked with Clarke appreciate her being sure to give them recognition for their hard work.
17 Triassic Attack
Emilia Clarke didn't have a very extensive list of roles to her credit prior to landing her big shot on Game of Thrones. But if you're a fan of movies that are so bad that they're entertaining, then you may have a huge winner in Clarke's 2010 film Triassic Attack.
If you haven't heard of the movie, it may be due to the fact that instead of getting a theatrical release it was instead released straight to television for the Syfy network.
Though Clarke has once admitted that she would take whatever role helped pay the bills when she was trying to make a name for herself. The movie features not one, but three dinosaurs that get accidentally brought back to life and begin to wreak havoc.
We're sure Daenerys and her dragons would have made quick work of the threat!
16 Her Parents Reaction To Her Acting Dreams
One of the best sources of support that you can have in your life is that of your parents. But when Emilia Clarke opened up to her parents about what her biggest career aspirations were she definitely didn't get the answer she had hoped for.
"I told my parents I wanted to be an actor, and they were getting ready for a life of unemployment, so they're just happy I'm in work!"
Her father also joked that the only line she would need to learn, was "Would you like fries with that?" Let's hope that Emilia Clarke will manage to turn her career from Game of Thrones into something huge, or she may be one of the many stars who made it on television but failed to make that transition into anything substantial.
15 Me Before You
If Emilia Clarke has a certain "preference" for what roles she takes, it may be that she loves taking on things that are based on books. The obvious go-to example is the Game of Thrones series, but her 2016 film Me Before You, was also based on a novel.
While the movie was a mixed-bag with critics, scoring 58% on Rotten Tomatoes, fans were still more than happy to flock to theaters and get to see Clarke in something different.
It had made over $200 million by the time the movie was done at the box office despite only having a budget of $20 million. We're sure Clarke will use results like this to help land several prominent movie roles of her choosing in the future.
14 She Loves Being Single
Emilia Clarke is definitely one of the most beautiful women in Hollywood, but did you know she is also one of the most attractive and eligible single ladies? We're sure if a man does manage to land a relationship with Emilia Clarke that it may not be long before he's trying to win her heart over so he can spend the rest of his life with the Queen of Dragons.
But when talking about her attitude towards the single life in the past, it definitely didn't seem like Clarke was in any hurry for that to change,
"Being a single girl in New York... it's what you should be doing in your twenties!"
Though she's now 31, so perhaps she is starting to feel that clock ticking more! Clarke has also made a vow that she isn't going to date actors any more. Something that we're sure will disappoint at least a few men in Hollywood.
13 Solo: A Star Wars Story
There isn't too much known about the upcoming film Solo: A Star Wars Story. And while some people may have lost faith in the confidence after Phil Lord and Christopher Miller were let go from their directing duties over creative difficulties, Ron Howard who stepped in to replace them is an incredibly talented director.
He also has a tremendous cast to work with, including the captivating Emilia Clarke who will be getting her shot to join another mega-universe.
Also joining along for the ride is Woody Harrelson and Donald Glover in supporting roles, whereas Alden Ehrenreich gets the lead role of the younger Han Solo. While the anticipation for Solo may not be on par to other blockbusters releasing this year, we're sure it'll still be a box-office smash.
12 How She Was Growing Up
The success of Emilia Clarke has allowed her to make an appearance in several different magazines. As a result, we've also been given the opportunity to get further insight on who she is as a person when she sits down for her interviews.
When discussing her life with Glamour magazine during a past photo shoot, Clarke revealed how she acted growing up,
"I was the drama kid. I wanted to be in the popular crowd, desperately, and I never was. I was hanging on to their coattails like, 'Be my friend!'"
While we're sure she had many moments growing up where she felt lonely and wished that people would be her friend, she probably doesn't have to work too hard to be surrounded by people now!
11 Voice From The Stone
If you had to ask critics on if Emilia Clarke's Voice From The Stone was worth their time, they'd probably say no. At least according to the score of the movie on Rotten Tomatoes that puts the movie at 25% which doesn't exactly give the most positive of impressions.
Though like we're sure you're well-familiar with if you've seen Clarke in Game of Thrones, she does spend a scene in the movie acting in her birthday suit, which may at least make the movie a little more appealing for you.
Though this green dress that she is spotted wearing in the film was also a great decision by the casting call. Like Game of Thrones and Me Before You, both of which make an appearance on our list, Voice From The Stone was based on a novel.
10 What She'd Tell Her Kids If They Want To Act
One of the entries on our list goes into the discussion that happened between Emilia Clarke and her parents when she told them she wanted to become an actress. Which perhaps makes it inevitable that at one point, someone was going to ask Clarke about what her thoughts are about her future children potentially joining the acting business. Said Clarke to Glamour magazine,
"I would say, If there's anything else that you can imagine doing, do that—'cause there's so much heartache and failure that doesn't get on the front of the magazine,"
At the very least, it may be a lot easier for her kids to get their big break in Hollywood with having a famous mother as a connection.
9 Terminator: Genisys
Daenerys isn't to be messed with in the Game of Thrones universe, but the skill set that she brings to the table isn't exactly the same as what is put on display in the Terminator: Genisys film that saw Clarke step into the iconic role of Sarah Connor.
When talking to Screen Rant about what she felt was the most challenging part of the role, Clarke stated,
"The most challenging part I think is sort of two different things. one was the mental challenge of trying not to mess it up, because Linda Hamilton did it already pretty well."
She went on to say, "And then also, yeah, getting to grips with a new skill set that I didn’t have, really didn’t have at all. So the guns and kind of having the strength to wield those guns like I knew what I was doing." Clarke also admitted that she trained upwards of 6 hours a day for the role.
8 Acting Isn't Enough For Her
We're sure you aren't the only person out there who hopes that Emilia Clarke is going to make sure she is keeping her acting career going strong for the foreseeable future. Something that at the very least, some of our entries highlight as we talk about her future work. But Clarke has been open about the fact that her passion in life doesn't just extend to working in front of the camera,
"My best friend Lola and I are writing a script together, and I'm starting a production company."
She went on to say, "I'm that girl. Because I know that relying on just being an actress is never going to be fulfilling enough for me," said Clarke to Elle.com. Clarke also went on to credit her mother for giving her the sense of drive that she has.
7 Breakfast At Tiffany's
Emilia Clarke knows how to turn your heads on the television screen and at the cinema, but did you know that she also has experience in theater? Clarke was cast as the lead role in the play adaptation of the book (turned one-time movie with Aubrey Hepburn) Breakfast At Tiffany's. When talking about what drew her to the role with Out.com, Clarke stated,
"The movie kind of glossed over a lot of stuff, I just think they missed the depth the novella offers, and the subtext and what it's saying about the time."
She went on to say she enjoyed the partying element of her character Holly, "She's a good-time girl. For me, archetypal good-time girls always have a tragic story. There's something fascinating about them-it's this quality that people want, but you can't quite grab hold of it or contain it because it's forever transient."
6 She Loves Her Baths
There is no question that the life of an actor comes with many luxuries. But it also comes with many stressful and long days that may leave their body feeling incredibly sore. It's just fortunate that most celebrities can also afford to go and have their body massaged out if they find themselves too beat up at the end of a long day.
But when Emilia Clarke was asked about what one of her favorite ways to unwind was, she actually stated her preference away from lying down on a massage table,
"I'm really old-fashioned. An Epsom salt bath, that's genuinely better than any massage."
We're sure this also means that one of Clarke's biggest luxury purchases since becoming a mega-star has probably been an amazing bath. And if it hasn't been yet, perhaps she needs to get on that!
5 Don Hemingway
Emilia Clarke's movie Don Hemingway may not have done well at the box office - earning under $2 million, or with critics, earning a score of 59% on Rotten Tomatoes. But we're sure Clarke had no regrets about signing on to the film as it gave her the opportunity to work alongside the talented Jude Law.
When talking about the experience with Express.co.uk, Clarke stated,
"I always thought he was a phenomenal actor, and that was backed a million percent when I got the chance to do this film."
She went on to say, "I remember the first day I was filming with him and I was just blown away. He's just got so much energy and gives so much. He's just so engrossed in this glorious character that he's created. He's utterly magnetic on the screen."
4 Looking Amazing On Instagram
If we're being upfront, Emilia Clarke doesn't have the most active Instagram account with a little under 300 photos uploaded. But over 15 million people still follow along hoping for any update from the Queen of Dragons. And considering some of the photos she uploads are amazing, like this one, you can rest assured that people are probably not too upset with her for not making social media a top priority in her life.
That being said, Clarke has still been outspoken about how important it is that her character of Daenerys has been for inspiring other women.
She is also often very enthusiastic to get to know her fans. Many of whom we're sure get very emotional when they get the chance to talk to Clarke! We're sure she could do without the thousands of Game of Thrones questions that have surely been asked by die-hard fans though.
3 Above Suspicion
Emilia Clarke is definitely going to take on a new side as an actress in an upcoming movie, Above Suspicion. Clarke's character is described as being an addict, opportunist and trailer-park denizen by Elle.com.
The website also ran an interview with Phillip Noyce who is directing the film and opened up about how impressed he was with Clarke,
"She came over to my place in Hollywood, and I opened the door, and there was the character from the movie. The accent, the swagger, the neediness, the confidence. We could have started shooting that day."
While it's still unknown how the public or critics will react to the role, it's definitely clear that Clarke did all she could to help show off a more versatile side of her acting resume.
2 Her Mother Helped Her Skin-Care Routine
Emilia Clarke has had many photos taken of her throughout her career where her makeup game has definitely seemed on point; whether that was through her own doing or that of a stylist. So perhaps you may not be stunned to hear that proper makeup tips (and facial help) is something that was imparted on to Clarke from a young age,
"My mother taught me how to apply my own makeup at 13 years old, and the most important lesson I learned is to never touch my eyebrows and to cleanse, tone, and moisturize twice a day."
While this was a moment to talk about her makeup tips, we're also sure that there are many huge life lessons that Clarke has learned from her mother.
1 Game of Thrones...again
There are some actors who have appeared on Game of Thrones but have admitted that they haven't found the time to read the books. But that definitely isn't the case for Emilia Clarke who we're sure is also on the edge of her seat waiting for George R.R. Martin to finish up what will be his interpretation of the end of the series.
When talking about the book series and the impact it has on her acting, Clarke stated,
"I've read all the 'Game of Thrones' books many times over, so I sometimes find it easier being on set, because it can be hard to get out of character."
You just have to hope that Clarke will also be a fan of whatever direction the creators take her character for the last season.
