20 Best Celeb Looks From The 2018 Oscars

The 90th Academy Awards happened in style, thankfully without any major mishaps. While there were some awkward red carpet moments caught on tape, at least this time the winners were announced without any hiccups. So after the all-black resounding moments of the Golden Globes, the glitterati at the Oscars turned out in full force. Barely any black gowns were noticed on the red carpet, and those that we did see were interesting enough to make up for their drab color. It was a night of bold looks, but the outfit choices were still classy, elegant, and stylish.

There were sunny yellows and gorgeous golds, striking silvers and royal reds – all the colors of the rainbows seemed to grace the red carpet as the celebrities descended with full force at the 90th Academy Awards. Obviously, many of these celebs were not honored with an award, nor were some of them even nominated. But no one used that an excuse to underdress, and in fact, if there were any trophies for the best-dressed, then these 20 divas would certainly get accolades. While not everyone enjoys watching the Academy Awards, pretty much everyone can enjoy feasting their eyes on these talented and entertaining women and their stunning outfits. Everyone pulled out their best looks last night, but these are the ones that really stood out.

20 Saoirse Ronan In A Pink Calvin Klein Stunner

via: vanityfair.com

Saoirse Ronan has certainly come a long way in acting, fame, and in style. At the 2018 Academy Awards, she rolled in bedecked in an ethereal pink Calvin Klein by appointment creation. The gown was strapless and had a huge bow at the back that then created a lovely statement trail. Pointed court shoes in the same hue as the gown and eye-catching diamond drop earrings kept her look simple and chic as she effortlessly posed for the shutterbugs. She also sported a diamond ring for some added glitz and her hair hung in a sleek bob, center-parted for maximum style. Her makeup was kept as neutral as possible, with those piercing blue eyes needing no color to stand out. Her unusual name is enough to make her stand out in a crowd of belles. In case you didn’t know how to say her name, she offers advice, “Searsha is how Irish people pronounce it, but I would pronounce it Sersha, and it is Irish for freedom.”

19 Sandra Bullock In A Gold Louis Vuitton Gown

Sandra Bullock is allergic to horses, owns a Cajun restaurant, has survived an air crash, and is one of the most stunning women around, according to Mathew McConaughey. And at the 2018 Oscars’ red carpet, she blew everyone away in a gorgeous gold Louis Vuitton creation. The metallic-luster gown was an ombré black-and-gold and had a mock-neck. A ruffle ran down the side to create movement and magic, and Bullock paired it with a metallic clutch. She wore her hair pin-straight and parted it down in middle for an elegant look. Her makeup was a very noir match of smoky eyes with a nude lip. While she won an Academy for her movie The Blind Side, this year she was onstage to present an award instead – and clearly had the perfect dress to do so.

18 Nicole Kidman In A Blue Armani Prive Statement Dress

via: usweekly.com

Basically, Nicole Kidman can do no wrong on the red carpet, except maybe show up with Tom Cruise, when pigs fly. This tall Australian import was actually born in Hawaii, and if there’s one thing that she is terrified of, it's butterflies! We are surprised to see her in cobalt blue Armani Prive creation, with a huge butterfly blow right in front! The gorgeously blue gown had a sweetheart-shaped neck, large bow, and a high leg slit that basically stole the show from all the other divas. She kept her hair straight and center-parted too and paired that dress with a jewel-encrusted clutch. Giant diamond earrings (seriously, they look like pebbles!) and other jewelry by Fred Leighton, plus an Omega watch kept her look super cool. Then she went ahead and wore these gorgeous black Louboutin heels that were as visible as most of her leg as she worked it for the flashbulbs.

17 Lupita Nyong'o In A Gold Atelier Versace Dress

via: vanityfair.com

Born in Mexico but raised in Kenya, Lupita Nyong'o identifies as Mexican-Kenyan and has been named one of the world’s most beautiful women ever since she hit the screens. She once said that to succeed in life, you must go where you are loved, and clearly, the Oscars red carpet adores her and her gorgeous chainmail Versace gown in gold. She looked very glam in this gold-dripping gown that had black accents and also a risqué thigh-high slit. The gown did not need much bling so she paired it with a matching gold clutch and simple black heels. The best part of the look came from her hair, which was done in a simple updo, but with a golden chain-like accessory woven through the chignon. She chose to wear diamond-encrusted studs as bling, but with a silver-tone to create some gorgeous contrast with all that gold. She had the press wrapped around her little finger, and she knew it too!

16 Salma Hayek In A Lavender Gucci Gown

via: vogue.com

When you spend your childhood getting your head and eyebrows shaved by a grandma who wants it all to grow back darker and thicker, you do not aim to blend in, even the tiniest bit. So if you think Salma Hayek looks over-dressed and out of a Disney princess movie, she doesn’t care. A tiered and sequined Gucci gown in lavender made her stand out rather extravagantly, as did the surge of crystals on her neckline that adorned her décolleté and flowed down her arms. The silver clutch and heels were by Gucci too but those diamond drop earrings were from Harry Winston. While she seems to be making the worst-dressed lists this year, the dress somehow sits well on this beautiful Latina. An elaborate updo with wisps of hair framing her face and oxblood lips set her bold look perfectly – clearly, Salma Hayek had arrived in style.

15 Greta Gerwig In A Bold Mustard Rodarte Dress

via: vanityfair.com

At the 90th Academy Awards, Greta Gerwig became the fifth woman nominated as the director for the movie Lady Bird. The four nominations before her were Lina Wertmuller for Seven Beauties in 1976, Jane Campion for The Piano in 1993, Sofia Coppola for Lost in Translation in 2003 and Kathryn Bigelow for The Hurt Locker in 2009. So obviously, when you are making history, you do it in style. And Gerwig's choice of style was a mustard yellow, florally embellished Rodarte gown that made her look bright and beautiful. Pretty red lips and a lovely jewel neckpiece in blue matched with a ring completed the look to perfection and made Gerwig look fierce. When you are up against best director nominees like Guillermo del Toro (The Shape of Water), Paul Thomas Anderson (Phantom Thread), Jordan Peele (Get Out) and Christopher Nolan (Dunkirk), you have to be warrior ready.

14 Helen Mirren In A Blue Reem Acra Dress

via: pinterest.com

After playing the queen so many different times, Helen Mirren, who hails from a Russian aristocratic family, has clearly mastered the art of red carpet dressing. The soft blue custom Reem Acra gown made Dame Helen look like a million bucks, despite the fact that the look was not necessarily the most bold or fashion-forward. But Dame Helen didn’t care as she shot back a drink or two on the red carpet in utter elegance. After all, this is the woman who clearly talks about how romantic intimacy gets better with age. She calls her youthful relationships “paranoid and empty” while all that happens romantically for her now is “great, just wonderful.” She did look great on the red carpet in that soft blue gown and she dressed it up with a matching blue clutch as well as a diamond and sapphire-jewelled set.

13 Gal Gadot In A Metallic Givenchy Gown

via: harpersbazaar.com

One thing to remember about Wonder Woman here is that she was an actual army soldier. Brought up in a Jewish Israeli family, she served for two years as an enlisted soldier in the Israel Defense Forces, where she served as a combat instructor. So the next time you think she ain’t all that fit – eat your hat! At the 2018 Oscars’ red carpet, she came armed to boot – this time in metallic hues and diamonds. She wore a Givenchy spring 2018 runway gown that was sequined from top to bottom and from the knee down was adorned with a sparkly silver and gunmetal fringe. The movement of the fringe as Gadot walked was absolutely mesmerizing, as were those silver heels. If the dress wasn't enough, Gadot wore a jaw-dropping Tiffany & Co. diamond necklace that caught the lights like nothing else. The woman knows how to shine, no Lasso of Truth needed for that!

12 Betty Gabriel In A Teal Tony Ward Get-Up

via: vanityfair.com

Betty Gabriel plays the housekeeper Georgina in the 2017 flick Get Out that was nominated for four Oscars: Best Picture, Best Director, Best Original Screenplay and Best Actor for Daniel Kaluuya. At the 2018 Oscars red carpet, she chose to wear a daring teal gown by Tony Ward couture with plenty of sass. Armed with a degree in animal science as well as being a trained actress and a dancer, Gabriel hasn’t been in Hollywood all that long but is making all the right decisions when it comes to roles. At the red carpet, she wore the teal gown with a plunging neckline that dipped down to her navel and featured a sheer skirt with a floral train – clearly, the dress did announce that Betty Gabriel had arrived, and was here to stay. She looked gorgeous as she wore her curly hair down and accessorized the gown with earrings and rings.

11 Eiza Gonzalez In A Stunning Yellow Ralph Lauren Dress

via: nydailynews.com

Other than being Josh Duhamel’s girlfriend of the moment, Eiza Gonzalez also starred in Baby Driver, and was presenting for the very first time at the 2018 Academy Awards. Obviously, she had to dress up in style. Frankly, with that face and physique, even a sack would have looked good on her. But at the 2018 Academy Awards red carpet, she chose to make an appearance in a bright yellow formfitting Ralph Lauren gown that looked very simple, until she turned around. The back of the dress had nothing but two straps perfectly placed on Eiza's back, held by matching circular facets on each side – and added plenty of allure to her otherwise demure look. Windswept waves and tangerine lips added to her youthful appeal and she accessorized the look perfectly with sparkly drop earrings, a ring and a chunky bracelet. The model turned actress has plenty of style to rock the red carpet.

10 Zoey Deutch In An Eco-Friendly Ellie Saab Beauty

via: usweekly.com

Lea Thompson’s daughter rocked her very first red carpet Academy Award appearance in eco-friendly style. As the ambassador to the Red Carpet Green Dress movement founded by James Cameron's wife Suzy Amis Cameron, Zoey Deutch wore an Elie Saab Spring 2016 Couture gown and did not shy away from some skin show. The gown featured delicate jewelled straps that then gave way to a plunging neckline. The bodice was stitched to perfection and showed off her slender waist with a cinched belt. The fabric of the gown was sheer so the bodice and part of the skirt had a nude fabric blanketing it from the inside to protect against skin showing. Intricate beading adorned the gown throughout and there were many layers of unique designs in it, to make it a really unique creation. Deutch wore her auburn hair in glamorous waves with a side part, and deep scarlet lip. The eyes were a smoky brown and Tiffany & Co. diamond danglers completed her very stylish look.

9 Janet Mock In A White Christian Siriano Dress

via: vogue.com

This famous trans celebrity is a wondrous one indeed who has no qualms about discussing anything having to do with the trans experience. She once said, "I was probably about 4 years old when I knew that I was a girl. No one else knew this but me, but it became my very first conviction. My gender was my very first 'this I know for sure' moment, as Oprah likes to call it." And dressed up in Christian Siriano regalia, Janet Mock looks like a dream in white. The gown is lacy all over, and has a cape that ends in a trail in a sheer fabric. Mock paired it with a white clutch, and diamond-encrusted chandelier danglers. A ring and a bracelet added a little more bling but all that was needed was her 100-watt smile! While this could easily be a wedding dress for sure, it’s also a red carpet classic to be in white and Mock knows how to strut in style like any other star.

8 Allison Williams In A Beige Armani Prive Gown

via: vanityfair.com

Before Allison Williams became Marnie in Girls, she was a whiz at assembling furniture. She even thought about making it a side career: “I don’t mean to brag but I’m very good at building IKEA furniture. As I was moving into my apartment I was putting together a bunch of IKEA furniture that I couldn’t pronounce. I’m assembling them and my parents are staring [at me] in absolute awe. They were like, ‘You can do this for money!’ I got so excited.” But looking at her red carpet appearance at the Oscars 2018 red carpet, furniture is the last thing we can associate with her. She sparkled in a beige Armani Prive creation that seemed to be embellished with all the stars of the night. With muted makeup and just a hint of bling, it was clear that Williams was now a star in studded style.

7 Viola Davis In A Very Pink Michael Kors Dress

via: vanityfair.com

Viola Davis was a vision in a sparkly shocking pink gown from Michael Kors at the 2018 Oscars red carpet and basically rocked this rare color like no one ever has. A fashion commentator said, “She never, never, never, never lets me down” and we agree. But her now sparkly look is a far cry from the abject poverty she lived in as a child: “I was one of the 17 million kids in this country who didn’t know where the next meal was coming from, and I did everything to get food. I have stolen for food. I have jumped in huge garbage bins with maggots for food. I sacrificed a childhood for food.” Now counted as one of the 100 most influential people in cinema, Davis has proved that guts can indeed take you to glory. Pairing her sequin gown with a clutch and glittery hoops, Davis let those curls run wild as she walked the red carpet with all the oomph in the world.

6 Allison Janney In A Red Reem Acra Stunner

via: vogue.com

Allison Janney picked up the Best Supporting Actress Award for I, Tonya at the 2018 Academy Awards – and she sparkled onstage. But the sparkle was not just because of the Oscar. Janney was wearing more than 128 carats of jewels by Forevermark – totalling a whopping $4 million! Solitaire earrings, a choker over 55 carats and an 18-carat ring caught the flashbulbs like nothing else did. She dressed her tall frame in a custom Reem Acra gown in a ravishing red hue, and a plunging neck that flattered her perfectly. The floor-length sleeves added a little boho feel to an otherwise striking ensemble. Janney said, “Being at the Academy Awards in stunning Forevermark Diamonds makes me feel incredibly special since they help to support women’s health & education programs in their diamond producing communities.” Clearly, Janney is a woman of substance with a lot of heart.

5 Zendaya In A Chocolate Giambattista Valli Dress

via: vogue.com

Zendaya stood up for herself when she was trolled for wearing dreadlocks at the 2015 Oscars, and she stood up so fierce, they modelled a Barbie after her! As a U.N. AIDS ambassador, she was very vocal about educating the younger generation when she said. And now, Zendaya arrived at the 2018 Oscars red carpet in a style so different from others, it took our breath away. Who but Zendaya would dare to wear chocolate brown chiffon to the red carpet in a style that was as timeless as it was romantic? The dreamy Giambattista Valli Couture gown had an asymmetrical neckline that basically fell off-shoulder and encased one arm in a puffy sleeve. The bodice was pleated and then gathered into a cinched waist, after which the dress flared into a full skirt that pooled oh-so-dramatically at her feet. She wore her hair in a top knot and for bling, it was diamond earrings and one very noticeable bracelet.

4 Emma Stone In A Louis Vuitton Suit

via: pinterest.com

By now we hope you know that Emma was actually born an Emily, and had to change her name to get registered with the Screen Actors Guild. She sucked her thumb until she was 11 years old, and cried so much as a baby, that she gave herself throat issues and turned her voice husky. If that weren’t enough for her to stand out from the crowd – at the 2018 Academy Awards red carpet, she decided to step out sans a gown. She made a bold statement by choosing such an understated and unique look. This time round, she decided to wear a silk Louis Vuitton suit instead. The very classy ensemble had black pants and a red blazer, and was further made cool with a pink bow tie around the waist. She then also wore a rose-colored smoky eye with a pink lip and wore her blonde hair straight in a side part. Clearly, she has style and sass in equal amounts.

3 Margot Robbie In A White Chanel Dress

via: vanityfair.com

Margot Robbie (or Maggot, as she was once affectionately called by her family – we don’t why) was wearing a rather stunning Chanel Haute Couture white gown with off-the-shoulder beaded straps. So pretty was the gown that it finally gave up under the pressure of all the compliments and one of her straps snapped. Margot was seen desperately looking for a sewing kit – and was industrious enough to fix her gown herself, thus avoiding a major disaster. Since she has just been signed up by Chanel, it was no big mystery as to why she was wearing this luxury brand. Diamonds upped the look of the gown and even the embroidery seemed very modern. With Roger Vivier heels and a crystal clutch, Margot Robbie may have lost the award to Frances McDormand, but looked every inch the winner. Muted makeup and a simple bob added to the simple allure of this dress as Robbie looked like a million bucks.

2 Taraji P Henson In A Bold Vera Wang Gown

via: vogue.com

This is the only black gown on our list, but it is so eye-catching that the color does not even matter. Taraji insisted that the gown took long to make because that never-ending slit needed to be just right – in fact, she was all for taking it even higher! This from a girl who made ends meet by working a day job in the Pentagon and working as a singing and dancing waitress on a dinner cruise, the Spirit of Washington, at night! The black custom-designed Vera Wang was truly a work of art – hand-draped French tulle with an illusion keyhole neckline and sheer back made Henson quite the media darling on the red carpet. Then there are those dramatic sleeves and that high front slit that according to Henson, did take a few days to get right. Both Henson and her son were thrilled with the gown, which she says made her feel very regal and very classy.

1 Jennifer Lawrence In Glittering Christian Dior Gown

via: vanityfair.com

If anyone truly made a feminist statement at the 90th Academy Awards red carpet, it was Jennifer Lawrence. And she didn’t even have to be vocal about it – her dress said it all. She wore a glittering metallic Christian Dior dress that resembled chainmail – underlining all the hidden power of a woman about to go into a metaphorical battle. The fact that the dress was designed by one of the few female creative heads of Dior, Maria Grazia Chiuri, means that Jen's statement rang loud and clear. Outspoken about gender equality and the gender pay gap in Hollywood, J-Law’s dress was very different than the ethereal creations she has been favoring in the recent past. This dress had blink-and-you-miss-it straps with a fitted bustier. The asymmetrical waistline was a perfect silhouette for Lawrence and she did not wear much bling other than a diamond bracelet from Niwaka. Roger Vivier shoes and a clutch completed the ensemble and J-Law being J-Law, a glass of wine seemed the perfect accompaniment!
