10 Outfits From The ACM Awards That We Loved Seeing (And 10 We Wish We Didn't)

The American Country Music Awards is one of the biggest award shows of the entire year. This past year was a special occasion as it helped honor the memory of the 851 people who were injured or killed during the shooting at the Country music festival shooting in Las Vegas this past October.

All the biggest names in the industry came out for the show and did so wearing outfits that left everyone talking. The unfortunate part for some celebrities is that some people were talking about their outfit for all of the wrong reasons.

Below we have 10 of the best examples of celebrities who clearly succeeded in bringing their A-Game. But when you consider Miranda Lambert knew that Gwen Stefani was going to be there with her former man, Blake Shelton, no wonder she wanted to look her best. Though to be fair, Stefani came away looking pretty stunning too. Even some people from outside the world of country music, like Becky Lynch and Mickie James, made sure to stop by.

People also waited months for the chance to get a look at Carrie Underwood. After a horrific fall this past year that required 40-50 stitches to her face, Underwood triumphantly took back the stage at the ACM's and did so perhaps looking better than ever before. At least until people saw what she got changed into backstage and were left even more amazed. Don't worry though, we've got you covered on both fronts below.

These are the 10 Outfits From The AMC's We Loved Seeing (And 10 We Wish We Didn't)

20 Loved - Carrie Underwood On Stage

Carrie Underwood has had many performances in her life that we're sure she was incredibly nervous for. But according to an inside source for People, nothing in her life ever came close to the pressure she felt about appearing on stage at the ACM's to sing "Cry Pretty".

"It’s the most shaken anyone has ever seen her. This whole ordeal. She was terrified of people seeing the scars. Her hair and makeup team must’ve been under so much pressure."

It was her first performance after a hiatus following a significant facial injury that required upwards of 50 stitches.

Thankfully for Underwood, her fears went unfounded as far as many people were concerned who were instead just left captivated by her amazing vocal talent. Though anyone who has seen Carrie perform shouldn't have been surprised that she would come back stronger than ever.

19 Didn't - Jennifer Nettles

Jennifer Nettles and Kristian Bush came together to announce in 2017 that they would be working together again to reform the country band Sugarland. While this was great news for the music world, this dress was not great news for anyone involved. Perhaps, in particular, the stylist who decided it was a good look for Nettles, but you may hold a very different opinion of.

One thing that is a positive in Nettles life is the recent announcement that Sugarland's new single, "Babe" is written by Taylor Swift

“She was gracious enough to reach out to us when she heard we were coming back together and doing a record. She said, ‘I have a song, would you like to do it?’ And we said, ‘Uh, yeah!’ I was a little anxious. I didn’t want to mess it up!" said Bush to Entertainment Tonight.

18 Loved - Maren Morris

Maren Morris was one of the people nominated for the prestigious award of "Female Vocalist Of The Year". While she was unsuccessful in her attempts to come away with the award, we're sure she didn't take it too personally. Especially because the lady who won it, Miranda Lambert, is a legend in this industry. Whereas Morris is still only 28 years old and will surely have a long career ahead of her with plenty of opportunities to come away with this trophy.

And even if Morris didn't get to go home with a physical award, perhaps she can rest easier knowing that people loved her outfit on the red carpet. Morris received praise for the overall style of the dress and the tremendous color that not only helped her stand out in a positive way but was perfectly suited for her.

17 Didn't - Bebe Rexha

Bebe Rexha is currently one of the most successful musicians in the world. Her song, "Meant To Be" that she does along with Flordia Georgia Line has been absolutely everywhere this last little while, including creeping all the way up to #2 on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart.

But while Rexha seems to put a lot more time into what she is producing in the studio, people aren't so sure if she has that same attention to detail in her sense of fashion. Going with a black dress for the awards show was a safe call. But going with one that features the unusual design "features" of this one was definitely a risky call that in the end, didn't work for her.

16 Loved - Gwen Stefani

Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton have been dating since 2015, but have never attended the ACM Award show together. Perhaps the fact that his ex-wife, Miranda Lambert, was always sure to be in attendance convinced the two that it wasn't the most comfortable of scenes. But things changed in 2018 with Stefani seemingly being more than happy to attend the show in support of her man.

And while the world may also love hearing Stefani sing, we're sure people were also captivated when Blake took to the stage during the show to belt out a performance of "I Lived It". The real question is, who are you going to end up thinks looking better, Stefani or Lambert because you better believe both women were going to try and look their best.

15 Didn't - Lauren Alaina

There are many promising young artists in the music industry that emerge every year. Which means that getting nominated, much less winning something like the best "New Female Vocalist" is something that you can imagine is a very big deal.

And while Lauren Alaina's outfit has earned the scorn of some people who feel it was far too busy with unnecessary designs and frills, she still came away from the show with that award to her name.

Lauren's career is also being bolstered at the moment by the fact that she is going on tour with Jason Aldean, to his credit, came away with the award for "Entertainer of the Year". While it may be a few years before Alaina gets to that level, she definitely will have plenty of experience to learn from the best!

14 Loved - Maddie & Tae

When Dot Records was shut down earlier this year, many potential promising artists were left not knowing what their future looked like. This included Maddie & Tae.

Maddie opened up about her feelings during the turbulent time in a video she posted online, saying,

"I kind of always was the person that had a plan, had it figured out, and I never kind of been like dropped on my a** before. That was really hard and my self-worth was tied into it, my purpose, everything.”

Thankfully for the talented duo, they ended up getting picked up by another record company not long after. Which means that getting to attend amazing events like the ACM's is something they should be able to do for the foreseeable future. Though good luck trying to top the tremendous outfits they both wore this year! (Source: JustJared)

13 Didn't - Lindsey Vonn

There is no shortage of iconic princesses that have come from the Disney Universe. But the overall consensus with Lindsey Vonn's dress was that she perhaps took too much inspiration from Belle.

It's amazing that she was able to sit down (or do anything comfortably for that matter) with a dress that is as big at the bottom as this one is. And while she may have thought the skin-tight upper portion was a good look, many people were left wishing she had elected for a different look. Especially because Vonn has known to leave people stunned with her good looks in the past.

Vonn is currently riding the single train and has expressed an interest in the past in finding a man, but we don't know if this dress is the way to do that.

12 Loved - Reba McEntire

Reba McEntire is one of the most iconic names in the world of country music. When she announced that she was hosting this past ACM awards show, it marked the 17th time she had been asked to do the honors. But it was also the first time in 6 years, so nobody would blame Reba if she was feeling a bit nervous.

She definitely deserves a lot of credit for having the confidence to slip into the red dress that she left the world stunned with for the first time back in 1992. While McEntire wore several stunning outfits throughout the night, this one was also her favorite.

"I really liked the red dress from the ’90s. It was like seeing an old friend again. When Sandi Spika made that dress for me, I felt like Cinderella." said McEntire to PEOPLE.

11 Didn't - Julia Michaels

Julia Michaels' past year has involved several different opportunities to attend red carpet events. This includes at the Grammys where she was nominated (but unsuccessful) for both "Song of the Year" (for "Issues") as well as in the category of "Best New Artist".

But Michaels wasn't expecting to come away with any awards when she attended the ACM's this past year. She just wanted to show up and have a fun time. Something we hope she can say she achieved. Though we don't know if her stylist will be having as fun a time when they realize that their outfit landed Michaels on the negative side of this list. While the color is great, the unnecessary frills and dangling tassels are both unflattering and unnecessary.

10 Loved - Brittany Kerr

Jason Aldean and Brittany Kerr do not exactly have the smoothest start to their relationship. It began back in 2012 while Aldean was still married to Jessica Ussery, with whom he has two children with. Despite this, Aldean and Kerr were spotted making out in a bar.

Aldean and Ussery divorced in 2013 and Aldean and Kerr have been spotted together since. Aldean wrote about the incident back in 2014 saying,

"I have made mistakes but i am a better person because of it, and wouldn't change a thing."

The two tied the knot themselves in 2015 and have a son together. Though something tells us Ussery would probably place Kerr on the negative side of this list, if only because she may be justifiably bitter. (Source: USMagazine)

9 Didn't - Nicole Kidman

Nicole Kidman may be a world-famous movie star, but she also very familiar with showing up to country events to try and support her husband, Keith Urban. She was by his side again this past ACM Awards show and definitely did so in a dress that made sure all eyes were going to go to her.

But that doesn't mean they were going to be drawn to her in a positive way. While Kidman's dress did feature an open-back that showed off her time in the gym, the front of the dress left much to be desired. The lack of pattern combined with the sleeves left many people confused as to why this dress ended up leaving the shop. Not to mention electing to pick a dress that was almost a dead-ringer to the same color as her hair.

8 Loved - Scotty McCreery

Carrie Underwood may have stolen the show at the ACM's but she wasn't the only American Idol winner who has been making waves in country music. Scotty McCreery is one of the biggest names who not only has an upcoming album coming out but is also getting married in the near future! Though when you consider his music is often inspired by his life experiences, we're sure it's not too surprising that those two events are coinciding with one another.

McCreery's outfit is not only on point but needs to be highlighted for his decision to wear the 851 pin. This was done to honor those who lost their lives and were injured at the Route 91 Harvest Music Festival incident in Las Vegas this past October.

7 Didn't - Chris Lane

Mandatory Credit: Photo by Jordan Strauss/Invision/AP/REX/Shutterstock (9629987au) Chris Lane arrives at the 53rd annual Academy of Country Music Awards at the MGM Grand Garden Arena, in Las Vegas 53rd Annual Academy Of Country Music Awards - Arrivals, Las Vegas, USA - 15 Apr 2018

Chris Lane has plenty of reasons to be happy right now, as his song "Take Back Home Girl" with Tori Kelly is being described as the biggest song he's ever had in his career and currently has close to 10 million views on YouTube.

When talking about his career on the red carpet of the ACM's, he mentioned that duets are definitely something he needs to consider doing as he grows as a performer.

Perhaps he may also want to use the help of someone else when electing to go with his red carpet looks. While Lane is a tremendous performer, his outfit was one that didn't do much to flatter him. Though we do need to give him credit for, like Scotty, electing to wear the 851 pin to help remember those hurt in the Las Vegas incident. (Source: ETCanada)

6 Loved - Miranda Lambert

Miranda Lambert attended this past ACM alone as things had only recently ended with her boyfriend of two years, Anderson East. But while Lambert may have had several reasons to be sad, such as Stefani and her ex Blake Shelton also being in attendance, by the time the night ended she had plenty of reasons to be feeling amazing.

Lambert took home two awards at the show, including for "Song of the Year" which she received for her song "Tin Man"; which is perhaps fittingly enough, about the divorce she went through with Blake Shelton.

You can imagine that may have made Stefani and Shelton feel at least a tad bit awkward! Lambert was also successful in her bid to come away with the trophy for the "Female Vocalist of the Year".

5 Didn't - Eve

The ACM's helped bring in various different celebrities to help work as presenters for the show. One of the presenters that people were the most excited to see was Eve. Who along with putting together a successful music career, has also made a name for herself in the world of movies and television. She also currently works as a co-host on the television series The Talk.

And while Eve was tremendous in her duties as a presenter, we don't know if the outfit that she decided to go with was as well-received. Eve's decision to show off a little bit of leg may have been considered a good look by some people, but it's not enough to detract from the weird design that is going on around her neck and with her sleeves.

4 Loved - Becky Lynch

In the WWE, one of the fiercest female competitors is Becky Lynch. But as amazing as Becky Lynch looks when she is wearing her in-ring gear, she also knows how to step up her game when invited to a red carpet event.

And while country music and the WWE may not be two things that go together in your mind, nobody should be left complaining that they got the chance to check out Lynch. Even if her outfit is a little unconventional for a red carpet, her fantastic makeup and hair help sell her look.

While the bottom half of the outfit does feature some pants that some people may have deemed "too flowy", overall Lynch has plenty of reasons to be happy with her look.

3 Didn't - Mickie James

If you had too negative of an opinion on the dress that Mickie James wore to the ACM's, you may want to keep it to yourself. Because James definitely knows how to throw her muscle around in the wrestling ring. But perhaps it's James' experience in the wrestling ring and not red carpet events that made her feel out of her element when she was invited to the ACM Awards.

And while fellow wrestler Becky Lynch came away with a knockout look which we feature on our list, James wasn't quite as fortunate. We don't think it will stop the awards show from inviting her back next year, but when she does, perhaps she'll elect to hire a different stylist to help her with the event.

2 Loved - Carrie Underwood Backstage

Carrie Underwood felt an immense amount of pressure when she was on the stage performing, but you can imagine that pressure may have been even higher when she was walking around backstage in this dress. Even when not being distracted by her tremendous vocal talent, people still didn't seem to have a negative opinion on the scar that Underwood first described as,

"It’s crazy how a freak random accident can change your life. I'll spare you the gruesome details, but when I came out of surgery the night of my fall, the doctor told Mike that he had put between 40 and 50 stitches in."

We're sure Underwood's recovery and her confidence to come back into the spotlight was helped immensely by her husband, Mike Fisher. (Source: DailyMail)

1 Didn't - Little Big Town On Stage

The band Little Big Town is made up of 4 members, Jimi Westbrook, Kimberly Schlapman, Karen Fairchild and Phillip Sweet. But while the two men in this example are wearing flashy, though not completely offensive suits, the same can't be said for the ladies fashion choices.

Karen Fairchild's big black and white design was compared to Cruella de Vil online and others compared Kimberley Sclapman to looking like the Riddler. Neither of which was who we're sure the ladies were looking to for inspiration when getting dressed!

The 4 took to the stage to help pay tribute to Elton John and performed his classic song "Rocket Man". Which while we are sure did sound amazing, doesn't make their outfits any better to look at.
