The 15 Hottest Wrestling Matches Ever

Among the Internet Wrestling Community, it seems like bad form to ever admit that any female wrestler is good looking, or God forbid, sexy. The IWC tries to position itself as an expert group who is above seeing a woman as anything other than competitors, just like their male counterparts. The IWC is a pretentious bunch that puts themselves at a level above regular wrestling fans, but thankfully, Vince McMahon and his fellow promoters have always programmed for the regular guy, not the enlightened connoisseurs.

The rest of us don’t mind a little flirting with our wrestling. The rest of us don’t mind a few double entendres and the rest of us don’t mind seeing a little skin. We’re wrestling fans, but we’re also normal human beings. We’ll take our wrestling with sexiness, please.

Most of the time, the sexy parts of the show happen during interviews, backstage segments and in pre-taped vignettes. When the sexy stuff did make it to the ring, it was often in the shape of bikini contests, dance-offs, arm wrestling matches, or in the case of Edge and Lita, a live sex celebration.

You wouldn’t know it by watching the WWE today, because they’re extinct, but sexy wrestling matches were a vital part of the Attitude Era, and of every wrestling company back in the late 1990s into the early part of the millennium. Thankfully, other organizations still bring out the sexy now and then, but as much as it pains us to say it, maybe the IWC won. Thanks. Oh well, at least we have memories, and video tape. Here are the 15 Sexiest Wrestling Matches ever.

15 Velvet Sky vs. Lacey Von Erich

On the December 10, 2009 episode of TNA Impact, the company looked the WWE of 10 years earlier when it put Velvet Sky and Lacey Von Erich into a mud wrestling match with Madison Rayne as your guest referee. Specialty gimmick matches are always a dicey proposition, usually exposing the combatants weaknesses and this was one such match. It looked horrible and since it’s they’re on a basic cable station, it was never going to head into R-Rated territory. For those wondering, Bubba Ray Dudley’s girlfriend pinned Kerry Von Erich’s daughter while commentators Mike Tenay and Taz looked like they were waiting for a storm in raincoats and umbrellas. Still, two hot women rolling around in the mud is pretty sexy.

14 Torrie Wilson vs. Stacy Keibler

via popscreen.com

This classic took place at No Mercy in 2001, with David Meltzer giving it four-and-a-half stars. Just kidding. A lingerie match between two women who barely learned to take a bump was high on sexiness but low on anything that looked like wrestling. Had either of these women stuck around in the WWE and put the effort into learning their craft, they could have had a career that rivaled Trish Stratus, but Keibler decided to date George Clooney and make a handful of guest starring appearances on television show and Wilson left to pursue a relationship with Alex Rodriguez of the New York Yankees. That would have been one heck of a mixed-tag team match.

13 Sable vs. Luna Vachon

via wedivafacts.tumblr.com

If you’re ever asked when the WWE took that interesting, yet sexy, left turn into specialty matches with women that were designed as little more than a quasi-violent strip show, you can point to this evening gown match, the first of its kind, which took place at WWE Unforgiven in April 1998. Luna Vachon ended up winning by stripping Sable of her clothes first, but in what became a familiar scene, the winner also had her clothing ripped off. Following the match, the two brawled in their underwear, rolling under the ring. Sable emerged with Luna’s panties, but Goldust ran down to cover Luna as she made her way out from under the ring.

12 Megapowers vs. Megabucks

via wrestlingopinion.com

No, this match at the first-ever Summerslam in 1988 between the teams of Andre the Giant and Ted Dibiase against Hulk Hogan and Randy “Macho Man” Savage with Jesse “The Body” Ventura was not the sexy part. Anybody who isn’t old enough to remember this match probably can’t understand why it was such a big deal that Miss Elizabeth interfered at the end of the match, ripping off her skirt to reveal red bikini bottoms was a big deal. First, the WWE had never done anything this risque. Second, Elizabeth (who never seemed comfortable at ringside) had never interfered in a match before. Third, we had never seen, nor never again would see, Elizabeth is such a state of undress. Tame looking back, but a big deal at the time.

11 Jillian Hall vs. Kristal Marshall vs. Michelle McCool vs. Ashley Massaro

via thesportster.com

You can make an argument that none of these four women ever showed what they were capable of doing during their tenures in WWE, but during this Bra and Panties Fatal Four-Way match from the Great American Bash in 2006, they showed what they were capable of when they were in various states of undress. While the match was almost twice as short as any other on the card, the ending saw Massaro, who would go on to be one of the last divas to ever pose in Playboy, rip off Marshall's top for the victory. McCool would go on to probably only perform in her bra and panties again for her real-life husband, The Undertaker.

10 Alicia Fox vs. Natalya

via results.natbynature.com

This match technically took place between Victoria Crawford and Nattie Neidhart, when both competitors were wrestling in Florida Championship Wrestling under different character names. It was nearing the end of the bra-and-panties era in WWE, but clearly they wanted their developmental divas ready for a call-up at any time by having them attach this stipulation to their match. For those wondering, both women prefer black bras. Fox coordinates with black “panties” and Nattie mixes things up with white ones, but these were more like the bottoms divas wear today and less like underwear. One of the things that makes this match so sexy is that neither of these women will ever be in a match of this kind in the current atmosphere of the WWE.

9 Tie: Christy Hemme vs. Carmella and Torrie Wilson vs. Candice Michelle

via prowrestling.wikia.com

Sometimes weapons are brought into a match such as a ladder or a barbed-wire baseball bat to make the match even more brutally violent, and sometimes weapons are brought into a match to elicit fantasies of college dorm slumber parties in male viewers, hence these two “pillow fight” classics that yes, technically were matches. Hemme and Carmella (not the current NXT wrestler) had a beef over the Divas Search competition Hemme won while Wilson and Michelle were fighting about being featured in Playboy magazine. Matches were contested with the wrestlers already in their bedtime lingerie, so aside from feathers flying out of the pillows, these matches offered the viewer very little. Thankfully both were also under two minutes. Still though, it was pretty darn sexy.

8 Tommy Dreamer vs. Raven

via fanpop.com

It’s fascinating to think that while the ECW legacy is one of hardcore wrestling, increased sexuality and an extreme attitude that the organization, while under Paul Heyman’s watchful eye, it was far less sexy than the WWE at the time, and when WWE resurrected ECW years later, it was actually far more racy. Nonetheless, ECW hired a lot of former exotic dancers and models and Beulah McGillicutty was among that lot. There was rarely a Tommy Dreamer vs. Raven match from that era when Beulah wasn’t on the end of a piledriver. During the lift for the piledriver, Beulah’s skirt would fall, showing her in her undies and Dreamer looking directly at her and letting the audience knew he liked it. Apparently, she did too. Dreamer and Beulah have been married in real life for years now.

7 Trish Stratus vs. Lita

via fanpop.com

While these two would develop into world class wrestlers and go on to have the most storied rivalry in WWE divas history, this Indian strap match took place years earlier. Stratus had only made her debut a month earlier when this July 24, 2000 edition of Monday Night Raw took place. Lita, who was mostly still serving as a second for The Hardy Boyz, took exception to Stratus helping the tag team she managed, Test & Albert, to a victory over the brothers. In the first speciality match of this rivalry, Stratus came away with the victory with the help of Stephanie McMahon.

6 Miss Hancock vs. Major Gunns

via imageevent.com

During the waning years of WCW, the organization put together a group of camouflage-clad mid-card wrestlers and gave them busty Tylene Buck to lead the crew, who was performing under the name Major Gunns, because guns are a euphemism for breasts and she had large ones. Get it? Miss Hancock would go onto so much more in the WWE under her real name of Stacy Keibler, but this match was wrestled under ROTC rules. ROTC cause military, get it? In this case ROTC stands for “rip off the clothes.” Gunns won, but would lose in the end as her career after wrestling was in adult entertainment and online cam sites.

5 The Kat vs. Terri Runnels

via imageevent.com

The former Mrs. Jerry Lawler and the former Mrs. Dustin “Goldust” Rhodes had quite a feud going in 2000, despite the fact they probably had less training time than anyone else on the roster. The thing going for them was their willingness to wear next to nothing in front of crowds of thousands. In this bout, from Summerslam 2000, The Kat and Terri Runnels fought in the only “thong stinkface match” in the company’s history. Kat won, leaving every man watching wishing he had lost the match as well.

4 BB Bush vs. The Kat vs. Jacqueline vs. Ivory

via diva-dirt.com

They call it the Attitude Era, but it should have been called the lingerie era, because that was the biggest difference between their show now and then. This match, like so many on the list, was a one-time event that has not been seen since: an evening gown swimming pool match pitting champion Ivory against BB Bush, Jacqueline and Stacy “The Kat” Carter. If you know anything about Carter’s career, you can see where this went. Leading up to the match, Carter promised she wouldn’t wear underwear, but upon winning, ripped off her dress to show her lingerie. She told the audience she was forced to wear a bra, which got a chorus boos. She fixed that by ripping the bra off, giving WWE it’s first intentional moment of nudity in its history at Armageddon in 1999.

3 Candice Michelle vs. Torrie Wilson

via thecrowesnestri.wordpress.com

WWE’s only match ever billed as a “Wet and Wild” contest was exactly what it promised to be with gallons of water poured all over the ladies, the referee, the ring, the commentators and at least the first three rows. With a dozen super soakers and just as many five-gallon buckets full of water, it didn’t take long before both women, clad in a white tank top and shorts were completely soaked. Unfortunately for the male viewers (or ladies who like this kind of stuff) both women were wearing bra and panties under their clothes, so it was less Spring Break Wet T-shirt contest than many hoped. The end came when Wilson gave Michelle a very wet stinkface in the corner and pinned her.

2 Sable vs. Jacqueline

via whatistheexcel.com

They’re a lot more lenient regarding nudity in Europe, so it makes sense that when the WWE was feeling its way into the Attitude Era, it would test out some of its sexier ideas in Europe before trying them in the United States. Such was the case at Capital Carnage, a UK-only pay-per-view held in 1998, almost a full year before The Kat lost her top stateside. Jacqueline, a decent wrestler and talker who probably would have gone much further in today’s female wrestling climate than in the Attitude Era, did what she had to do and agreed to get her top ripped off in a post-match fracas with Sable. How Jacqueline got on the referee’s shoulder for this to happen is a mystery, but seeing Tim White run around with a topless women on his shoulders was hilarious, and yes, sexy.

1 Lizzy Borden vs. Veronica Caine

via flickr.com

XPW out of California tried to be the even more extreme evolution of hardcore wrestling once ECW went bankrupt, but what they never seem to get was that hardcore was about an attitude, not about the genre of porn that its wrestlers appeared in. Nonetheless, in 2002, Lizzy Borden and Veronica Caine worked as wrestlers for XPW and appeared in a “Buck Naked Match” with one another. The end of the match was a mess, with both girls in a state of undress and just when it looked like something was going to happen, the lights went out. And stayed out. For way too long. When the lights came back on, there was still no nudity. However, the anticipation and the fact it involved two adult stars made you wonder if maybe, just maybe, this was going to be much more than was delivered. After XPW, both went back to their roots for those who felt cheated by this match.
