Fernando Torres is receiving criticisms due to his terrible performance since he transferred to Chelsea.
The Spanish striker left his old club Liverpool and signed a five-year deal under Chelsea in 2011 for $76 million. He ranked third among the world’s biggest transfers. Cristiano Ronaldo’s shift from Manchester United to Real Madrid in 2009 for $122 million tops the list. Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s Inter Milan-Barcelona transfer in 2009 for $86 million was third. He ranked third among the highest-earning athletes in 2011.
As Chelsea’s highest-paid player, Torres is also the club’s biggest disappointment. He has caused Chelsea an awful lot of money with his salary amounting to $175,000 a week, double the salary he earned in Liverpool.
Rumor has it that Chelsea, with its new manager and former Real Madrid Coach Jose Mourinho, is now ready to hand over Torres to other teams. Due to the Financial Fair Play coming into effect, Chelsea is seeing an overall loss of $75 million. That is almost at par with Torres’ one-year salary in the club.
Recently, it was reported that Barcelona is bidding the Chelsea striker for $26 million and is ready to match his $283,553-a-week wage. The 29-year-old father of two has a net worth of $40 million. He has a total earnings of 19.6 million - $16.6 million from salary/ winnings and #$3 million from endorsements.
