Anzhi will pay a $38.9 million transfer fee this week for the rights to Eto’o and the Cameroonian star is expected to sign a three-year deal with an annual salary of 20 million Euros or $28.8 million at current exchange rates. Dwarfing the earnings of Lionel Messi at Barcelona and Real Madrid’s Cristiano Ronaldo. The current highest-paid player in the game is Cristiano Ronaldo who earns an estimated 13 million Euros ($19 million). Anzhi is owned by Russian investor Suleiman Kerimov, who is the 118th richest person in the world with a net worth of $7.8 billion.

Eto’o refuses to compare himself to other football players, letting his vast collection of awards, including African Player of the Year for three consecutive years with 4 times record. He is currently African Player of the year 2010. He is also the current captain of the Cameroon national team. In 17 October 2007, in the midst of his recovery period, he gained Spanish citizenship while playing for FC Barcelona.
